@@w9906 yes I had split ends. I had to get a few inches cut. It was still 16-20 inches all around tho. I’m sure take down for locs started with other methods would work just the same but I’d look that up specifically to see if someone else has done it.
I combed my 1st set out at 5 months, it’s not hard at all. The less time you’ve had them, the easier it may be. However, you can comb them out no matter what length of time you’ve had them. I don’t think there’s a specific time frame for a productive comb out. It’s in the patience you have while doing it and making sure the loc is saturated with water and conditioner.
I don't have locs but when I leave my hair in a bun for awhile it starts to twist together and now its a huge mess but thank you bc I was really considering cutting my hair. Now ik I just need to take my time

@@Missingkeys90 my thinner locs took the longest to comb out. If you really want them out, you’ll need a lot of patience. Just consider your lifestyle and if you can commit to your loose hair the way you need to once the locs are out.
I have had my locks since 2010, have I had these locks too long to think that I could comb them out, some of the locks broke off, and I had to combine a few. Do you have any tips you could share? Thank you
Hi! My locs were only 2 years old however I would look up loc comb outs on 10+ year locs. I’ve seen someone give insight on what to do for the double headed dragons (combined locs). You can still comb them out but in general it’s just an extremely tedious and time consuming task. Since you’ve had yours so long I assume they’re long in length and I’d cut half of my length or wherever you’re comfortable and save those locs, then comb out what I can salvage. That way if you want to go back to your locs you can use your own as extensions and attach them back. I hope I was able to help some.
Well damn . Yyou said time & patience I work for amazon .. i really want to start over with my locs ..had them 9 years started off with yarn in my hair i knew NOTHING about then when i first made an oath for locs so there is alot of hands in my locs Nd im just knowing what and how exactly i want them . With amazon schedule what could YOU perfer me too do with the time and how long do u think it would take me too take a whole head down ? I hope i made sense via the internet
The time it would take depends on how many you have and the length and width of the locs. With your work schedule it may take longer to take down. Some people say it takes them a month+. If I were you I’d try to take one down on an off day and time it. Then knowing how long it takes you, you may be able to get a few down before or after work. I’d two strand twist the locs I’ve taken down so that they sort of blend in with the rest. I’d start in either the very back or the middle to conceal the loose hair.
I’ve cut all mine off before, I get it. That’s the quicker option and super satisfying as well lol. Like you said tho it’s just hair so whatever works best for you.
My locs are almost four years old and my longest loc is just shy of two feet long. I’m really worried I will lose all my length after I comb it out. Is there truly hope? 😣

Did you have split ends after your takedown? Also, can someone that started locs as braids & interlocked use the same method?
@@w9906 yes I had split ends. I had to get a few inches cut. It was still 16-20 inches all around tho.
I’m sure take down for locs started with other methods would work just the same but I’d look that up specifically to see if someone else has done it.
Será que dá para fazer isso com locs feitos com agulha?
Do you think 5 month old locs would be difficult to comb out? What's the time frame matched for still being able to get a productive comb out?
I combed my 1st set out at 5 months, it’s not hard at all. The less time you’ve had them, the easier it may be. However, you can comb them out no matter what length of time you’ve had them. I don’t think there’s a specific time frame for a productive comb out. It’s in the patience you have while doing it and making sure the loc is saturated with water and conditioner.
@TheTianaAlexandra can i comb out instant locs?
@@charitymatt463 yes, you can definitely comb out instant locs.
I don't have locs but when I leave my hair in a bun for awhile it starts to twist together and now its a huge mess but thank you bc I was really considering cutting my hair. Now ik I just need to take my time
Mine are crocheted locks. Would this method also work with them?
Yes it would! You’re essentially just untangling your hair so as long as you have the items in the video and a lot of patience you can take a crocheted loc down too.
I’m thinking of combing my locs , my fear is will my hair be short and will my hair look thin. I have long small locs.. I’m just nervous. Any tips
@@Missingkeys90 my thinner locs took the longest to comb out. If you really want them out, you’ll need a lot of patience. Just consider your lifestyle and if you can commit to your loose hair the way you need to once the locs are out.
My beard has a huge dread. Thanks for the advice
Combing em out today
I want to comb mine out but I’m sooooooo scared I’m gonna be bald headed 😢 I’m literally shaking
I only took 3 hours and I'm already exhausted😢 I need help and I have no one to help me 😔
I know the feeling! Did you keep going or are you stopping?
I have dreads rn and u helped me sooo much!
I’m glad I could help!
@@TheTianaAlexandrawhat cream do you use to moisturise it please
I appreciate you I been scared cause I didn’t wanna cut my hair 😂😂😂😂
You’ll need a good trim for sure but you definitely don’t have to cut it all off if you don’t want to.
Ain’t our hair amazing?❤❤❤❤. Thanks for this T
do you think i’ll be able to take my locs out like this if i started with twists?
Yes
Well damn . Yyou said time & patience
I work for amazon .. i really want to start over with my locs ..had them 9 years started off with yarn in my hair i knew NOTHING about then when i first made an oath for locs so there is alot of hands in my locs Nd im just knowing what and how exactly i want them .
Ok Word . Much appreciated
My hair is loc’d up really close to the root for the most part. Ugh, if it even hurts for a little I’m cutting them off, it’s just hair.
I’ve cut all mine off before, I get it. That’s the quicker option and super satisfying as well lol. Like you said tho it’s just hair so whatever works best for you.
Ive had my locs 10 years, hair is down my butt, thanks to bleaching im only going to retain a good 5 inches post trim :)
Wow! My locs are very thin..I want to comb them out but I'm afraid it will break off
My locs are almost four years old and my longest loc is just shy of two feet long.
I’m really worried I will lose all my length after I comb it out.
Is there truly hope? 😣
How much length will i lose?
@@今天星期三我朋友Hey girl! Don’t worry you’re not gonna have loss hair or damage as long as you take care of it you’re good! Take care❤!
Does this work on very mature locs? I’ve had mine for about 12 years and my locs are extremely tight.
Yes, however the length retained may vary but combing them out is still an option.

Hi, I'm asking for some help: I have long dreadlocks and when I tried to untangle them, the length of my hair reduced a lot and it became super short. How do I maintain the size?
@@mirandagilouana2779 it may depend on the way they were maintained during you having them. I have noticed that sometimes with longer locs they are shorter in length when combed out.
I'm down to the final 15 to comb out and my shoulder is in terrible pain. I should’ve chopped my shit off. Feels like I permanently damaged my rotator cuff 😂
@@pjz96 I feel you 😂! I was just so curious about the length and once I saw how long it was I had to commit lol
Would this differ between how long youve been locked? Ive been locked for years.
@@theusuallyquietscorpio8408 no, they can still be combed out.
Did you start your locs with braids, coils, or two strand twist?
@@BeautyFitnessFamily I started them with finger coils
@@TheTianaAlexandra can you do this same method if your hair started with two stranded twist?
