The irony. I think Liu yuning is much better looking than a lot of chinese actors that are considered good looking. Calling him ugly makes no sense to me.
Idk why Liu Yuning is considered ugly lol, I find many of those male actors in many xianxia dramas look so girly to me 😭🤣🤣🤣, like I cant even take them seriously. Liu Yuning is perfect. He has a good enough face, not girly but not overly attractive which suits perfectly for this role. His height tho, the man looks damn attractive in the guard uniform, the stylist did so well on dressing him up here, made him look well built and healthy, not that skinny girly sht we often see in many dramas 😅😅

The way Li Tongguang kept going back and forth from "I've gotten over my shifu" to crazy shifu-obsessed psycho made me so angry. Way to destroy a potentially great character arc.

When he first got the character developing talk-to I thought we were done with that and now he's gonna be a smart capable ally. With how the drama had been going I expected him to be a great character. And then that same character arc repeated 3-4 extra times. It was so frustrating.

1. This drama made me a big Alen Fang fan. He did amazing in this role. And I LOVED what they did with the princess's character
2. The ML and FL did such a great job (and the ML is hot, people need their eyes checked)
3. Think I consider this almost a perfect drama if I pretend it ended at Ep. 34

I understand what you are saying. I don't think I have cried so much watching a c-drama as I did ep 35 to end. I actually had snot running down my nose and used tissues all over my desk. They should have made the story from 35-40 as a part 2 of about 20 ep
It turns out Fang Yilun is great in comedy, but he sometimes has these whiny drunkard roles, like in the long ballad and in granting you a dreamlike life, and a role that was maybe 9/10 points annoying, he plays it so well it becomes 15/10 annoying. 😅 He should stay away from crybaby roles in the future if he can.

He Landou was actually a surprise! I had goosebumps by watching her acting! Some of her scenes were unforgettable and superb!
she actually always been a good actress. i remember seing her first time, when she still 16 years old , i was amazed with this young actress. she is just unlucky because she never get good script since her debute. now that she change to a bigger company, we could hope that she would get better script in the future.

I first saw her as the FL in Buried City to Shut All Lights. I was amazed by her acting in that drama and I have always wondered why the drama and the FL did not get enough attention. You should definitely watch that drama.
The casting for this period drama was mesmerizing. This role was made for Liu yuning, he’s absolutely stunning. I can’t count how many times I’ve rewinded his scenes. The camaraderie between the group stole my heart. I absolutely loved this drama, just hated the ending.

Despite the rushed ending, it is still overall good, 8.5 point from me. Its very clear from the start that this is a character-driven, action-packed, romance drama... So im glad that they give many highlight moments to each character, to the fight scenes, and the mature relationship between leads. Not only FL/ML, they also managed to make so many likeable support characters, for that reason i call this as the most successful group drama of 2023.
I'm a Liu Yuning fan... all of those attacks on his appearance and slanders about him having capital to change scripts etc have been going around since cast announcement last year... but it got even more terrible when the drama aired... I should admit all of those bullying even made me stress and depressed, they even call him with animal names, like he's just a very low creature... his fans even got scolded for saying he's handsome, we're not blind and he has many talents plus good personality thats why we like him😭 so I can't imagine how he handles this bullying, a year long bullying and i think it will still continue when his currently filming drama airs later.
Its all baffled me how those ppl say he has capital to change script for him and to get him more screentime, if they watched the drama they will find that Ning Yuanzhou is the only main character who has no flashback to his past story, no significant character development, he's there as the most stable character that helps other characters to grow🤦♀️
Also, i think there's something fishy about the management of the social media around him and this drama in particular, because when you see the Long ballad or Heroes the majority of the comments says he is handsome. The attacks against him have another base and they're just using bad language around his looks to hurt him. He is so hot but also, a very dedicated artist and a hard worker. I hope this wont afect him emotionally and he can keep going even higher.

I agree with you on your overall rating and I enjoyed the drama so much. I was very emotionally moved by the characters and enjoyed the costumes, fight scenes and cinematography. My opinion is that it would be a toss up between this drama and Lost You Forever for which is the best in 2023. Thanks for explaining the hate movement to the international viewers as the comments for some of the episodes didn’t always make sense. I have noticed that certain factions in some Asian fandoms can behave in very toxic ways.

OMG you actually shook my world because I kept feeling like the actor playing Du Zhang Shi was so familiar and turns out he was in My Bratty Princess with Jang Nara and Alec Su!! I looovveeddd that drama growing up and wow how time flies.

If only i knew more chinese and more familiar with chinese social platforms i would be defending LYN as if it were my job 😭 but actually just hearing the few things you mention that have been said about him just breaks my heart and makes me want to cry. he’s achieved so much through pure determination and hard work, i admire his resilience and maturity so much when it comes to all the hate. He has such a unique aura and charisma and charm, not to mention his gorgeous voice and height and bone structure….. The fact people dont watch just because they think hes ugly is absurd, maybe thats why so many dramas now are so bad because they choosse pretty actors instead of talented ones because thats what ppl want 😭
Ikr? The part that boggles my mind about the attacks against him is that it's not some kind of big secret what he put himself through in order to just get into music and then into acting. Like, do you honestly think that a guy who literally *starved himself* in order to afford a guitar would give up because some random person said he was ugly?
The silver lining here is that Liu Yuning's public response to all of this nonsense was pitch perfect, and made all of these people look like fools. This is a guy who knows how to control his own public image, which will only become more important as he gets more high profile roles. He's an outsider, and there will always be people who resent that. This won't be the last time someone orchestrates an attack on him: but he has shown that he is very good at turning these attacks into opportunities.
Re: the looks thing, it was the same against Ren Min (the character she played is not supposed to be the prettiest, just the most rebellious). Main characters don't always have to be the prettiest, especially if that does not fit with the story.
Ren Min wasn't compatible with Xiao Zhan.

I think they were trying to make Li Tonguang that character who is formidable when he’s thinking clearly but when he sinks into his weakness, his impulse control causes problems.

I don't think Liu Yuning is ugly. He is not a "pretty boy" but I still think he is appealing.
Thank you so much for bringing up the hate toward the actor regarding his looks etc... it's been a soar issue with me when viewers judge those by their looks and not the talent they posses. Yet, I know that it's just plain shalloness that these haters float in on a daily basis.
I'm also happy that you brought up & educated how they work the script & the adding and cutting of certain things for them to come to the finishing touch. It may not be perfect .. but not many dramas are.
Agree with #AvernueX' point on the hateful attacks of the male lead's look. If it's only about looks, why not just swap out all human characters in Chinese dramas for flawless AI-generated ones? It's really disheartening to see shallow criticisms overshadowing the heart and soul actors put into their performances. How did Chinese youth get so caught up in superficial judgments like these? Despite the adoration for the main female actress on social medias, I personally found her acting to be rather dull. On the other hand, the actress portraying the young princess deserves more recognition for her exceptional acting skills. She adeptly depicted the character's evolution from a timid princess to a formidable queen.
For me this drama was like a train that midway through the journey has lost its breaks. It started off way too slow (for my taste) and finished with a fast wall splatter. I liked that almost every character has a back story and they seem to be alive, to want things other than simply support the main leads and carry on the plot. Beside the main leads, I enjoyed He Landou's character and interpretation, and I enjoyed the chemistry between Fang Yilun and Chen Haoyu. Li Tong Guang was the biggest miss: the character was all over the place, and the actor didn't seem to have the experience/talent to hold on his shoulders such character. While the drama plot was enjoyable, midway through I found myself wondering if all the plot was really necessary. It felt like reading Scheherazade's stories. Why are Chinese dramas this long? It is my second year of watching them and I still don't get why, even though they have 40 hours on their hands, they (still) don't manage to tell a good story from beginning to end and why, oh why, the last few episodes are always crap? Is it a general rule in the contracts or something? Also, on the subject of beauty, as an international viewer (Europe, Romania) actors like Liu Yu Ning, Jiang Xiao Lin and Li Yun Rui are more attractive than actors like Xiao Zhan, Yang Yang and Zhang Bin Bin. But since beauty is more subjective than talent I rather appreciate actors for their talent, than their beauty. I don't know why "fans" are so intent on discussing physical attributes. It is anyway difficult for the actors to hear their work dissected and commented, but when the comments turn so personal, I feel really bad for them. They are humans too and at the end of the day, acting is just a job.
I wanted to see li tong Huang and princess being happy because they’re the 2nd leads. And see him grow up and her being happy.

I dont get chinese standard of beauty🤷🏼♀️ liu yuning made me keep watching legend of anle. It was my first time knowing his existence and yet i cannot take away my eyes off him. I was actually disappointed in so many factors in legend of anle and him alone kept me til end. He has that charisma that makes me keep coming back to check him out. And then i saw him again in long ballad 😍.
At first I thought he was younger version of jo in sung but then as I saw insung's younger photos, I could say I like liu yuning's face better than insung. Cant anyone just spread love not hate?❤

Thank you very much, I could not agree more with everything you said about this drama and its criticism. For me it’s also the best Chinese period drama in 2023. Without the unnecessary dream sequence at the end and a better motivation for the sacrifice of the ML instead even the solution of the drama would be quite acceptable. The last moments should go to the princess (Yang Ying) because she embodies the legacy of the whole mission and loved her companions on the titular journey dearly. She could even function as a nice stand in for the daughter the leads wanted but never had (FL significantly agreed to name her daughter Ying’er).

I think that the reason why Liu Yuning was chosen to play the male lead role is because he is suited for the role. The actor should not be handsome when the character is different from other dramas. In my opinion, Liu Yuning is perfect for the job and gave justice to the character he portrayed.
Of course I stayed till the end of this video because I have been waiting for your final review. You shed light to some questions nagging at me regarding the last few episodes. I don't understand the Chinese standard of beauty but never did I or do I find Liu Yuning "ugly". His song "Offer" gives me such eargasm everytime I hear it. What a comeback for Cecilia Liu, one of my favorite actresses in C dramaland. The role of the princess was so well done. Her development from being a "nobody" to who she became along her journey is so well written. The scene where she revealed that she is in fact a girl/princess was so iconic. I wish there is (going to be) a spin off or a drama on its own about this character. Lost YOu Forever and this - Journey To Love are my two favorite dramas of 2023.

I’m so glad you liked it too. I love the whole cast and it’s now one of my fave dramas ever (granted I don’t watch many). Thanks to your recommendation I watched it and enjoyed the whole experience. I do think the end was too rushed but that’s all due to the regulations that is forcing dramas fit into 40 episodes and no more. So that definitely made the show worse. I have no idea why the regulatory body has to limit episodes limit but it’s so stupid.
Oh I did not realize the 40 episode limit was set by government, which is ridiculous as it interferes with the creative scriptwriting process. I wish they could have made this drama into two parts then but it would likely raise production costs.

In the last 6 months I've watched Heroes, Legend of Anle, The Long Ballad and then A Journey to Love ,so it's been interesting to see LYN's progression - and I freely admit that I love him, especially his music! I actually finished The Long Ballad the day before I started A Journey to Love, so that was a bit confusing at first - though the bit where NYZ get LSS out of jail with the line about escorting a young beautiful princess to a far away land made me laugh because all I could think was "are you riffing on your roles in TLB?"
I watched all the episodes as soon as they came out, but when I got to episode 37 I had to have a break for over a week, because I just couldn't face the last few episodes - and, amusingly, the last time I had a break that long was Guardian (where I refused to watch the last 3 eps for almost a month until I was able to find someone to watch them with *lol*)
The weakest link of LTG was really sad, because so much of the story was so epic and engaging that it almost felt like a new genre of drama and it was going pretty well. Even some the earlier scenes with LTG started showing that he might develop into something big (the scenes at his riding arena were mostly keeping the same pace/feel) but towards the end I was just "???" Also, it made no sense sending NYZ out to rescue LTG at the end, because LTG hates him for ending up with the women he loves/is obsessed with, and he's already lost face by having his stupid actions brought to light, so he'd be more likely to stab NYZ in the back than give him a hug and take advice from him after all that - but that wouldn't lead to the, admittedly utterly epic, demise of NYZ, so... *shrug*

I never see this drama as an idol drama. It's definitely not a serious drama, either. It's just very entertaining overall, but it's not just an idol drama at the very least, and audiences shouldn't put it in that catergory specifically and expect things that they expect and criticize it for what it's not. It's romance based, but it's not those dumb idol dramas with dumb leads, and that itself makes it more than what it is.
I just love him, I was surprised that people act this way.
I love your review, so in line with how I feel about it. Each character had time for development and weren't just glossed over. The development of the princess from a timid girl to a strong character was so well written and acted. I loved the show because it wasn't just about the main leads, and their romance was a nice mature one, unlike the other currently running one that I am struggling to continue or not.

If this was any other drama, I am sure the character of Li Tong Guang and the actor playing him would be shredded, but instead people are stirring shyt over Liu Yu Ning, who I think actually did a pretty good job here for someone with his background and exp as an actor.
In all honesty, it looks like someone is trying to divert attention from the Li Tong Guang guy and how his scenes seemed to be added for no good reason + the bad acting etc. I watched a couple of the promo vids n it seems like he is trying too hard and I even got the feel he is trying to step over the other male actors to try to draw some attention to himself.
I dunno him and am no fan of any of the cast, but this type of stuff really makes me irritated. Especially when it is done by someone with no 實力 to back himself/herself up.
They could have cut his screentime drastically so that he wake up from the stupid ideas he had and made the ending less rushed. It would have helped him a lot more to show him mature along the way n just stay on the side as a 癡情男二. But no, they decided to give him all the complicated scenes which he couldn't handle n sacrificed the plot for it.
The last few scenes of Li Tong Guang with Yang Ying hinted at something but it never got elaborated.
They should have made this show Season 1 and 2, each with 25epi...
Great review. I love A Journey to Love and agree with what you said. This drama was a full meal although badly paced by the ending. I would have loved if they'd split it into two parts of 30 episodes each. Still, with the awe-inspiring OST and awesome ensemble and cast, it's among my favourite dramas of 2023.
Lookism is such a disease, to me what an actor needs is a presence and enough charisma, the ML fills the screen whenever he's in it , not the best actor but he has so much potential I hope he keeps going
U are so spot on, on the reviews for this drama, I loved it so much and was rewatching from the beginnign while waiting for the later episodes, but I was so disappointed at how the drama turns out towards to the end, I just gave up rewatching again....
I agree with your assessment but for 1. They showed soldiers saying that Li Tong took the credit of capturing the Emperor after he was circled be the enemy 2.Li Tong is an idiot who now has the very smart Princess Ying to help him & keep him in check. 3. He is actually responsible for 4 people dying not 2.
Overall, I give it a 9.7 because I think Princess Ying should have been the one to memorialize the 6 who died not Chu because she didn’t know most of them.

Yes, He Landou was a discovery in this drama! Can't wait to see her next works, whatever project she might be in. I have to say, up to episode 25-ish, the drama was fun but after that it became weird? LTG's character was way too icky, agree on your take of the weird emphasis on his character in the drama.
Glad to NOT know all these social media criticism before I watched the drama. Totally enjoyed watching it. Liu shishi is one of the most beautiful actress in China. Mesmerized by her good looks in every scene.

His character development was 10 steps forward and 20 steps backwards and as a result it offset the others especially the ending where he gets the ML and FL killed. I do not understand why rescuing him was so important. What was so special about him that ML had to sacrifice his life for him. The FL was always shown to be rational and consistent but when it came to him - it would appear she became a dimwit. Not just once but several times. Also, I can truly say I hate that Chu Yue who has no real attachment to the WU team has a vision or dream about them. She did not even meet or talk to some of them. It is just so out of place. Why, why for heavens sake have that scene added😅
I thought LYN was better looking Alen Feng in The Long Ballad and I still think so in AJTL.
Even with the crazy ending, I still ABSOLUTELY adore this drama. Definitely the best of 2023.

Okay, I was two thirds in into this drama and that's when the script started to get weaker, so I put it aside. And now I don't want to finish. The two leads did not deserve to die and I don't have the heart to watch such an ending. Also, I find Liu Yunning very attractive since The Long Ballad when I first noticed him. Wishing him more beautiful male lead roles. He is talented and hardworking enough to deserve it. ❤

I couldn't even finish watching the drama. I truly loved it, but couldn't get pass that they were killing all of the main characters.
I am so sad because i feel that this movie is underrated. I love the script and strong chemistry between leads. I love that this drama potrays very strong characters for the main leads. They are equally strong n smart. I fall in love the first 10 mins when they introduce the leads character. It was like wow. So when i google this drama to see people reaction, i was sad that they are many negative critic on yuning. I think he is a great cast. First time watching him. But he is a great actor. I just feel like the ending or how they wrap the movie is a bit dissapointing. Too heavy n depressing. The only way i accept this is that the writer want to potray the harsh reality n depress of war. Yet they show hint of main leads alive to give a sense of happy ending over the depressing ending. I dont get quite get tge ending.
Poor Lui Yuning is still facing the same hate as he is currently shooting The Legend of Jewellery with Zhao Lusi. Few days ago someone released his photos of smoking on set and he was getting hate for it, like he is not an adult and can't smoke in his brake time. Few weekss ago they were saying he increased his sceen time on Drama Heroes and then assistant director have to make a video that this never happened and Lui Yuning never asked to make more screen time for him. He is a singer, chef ,amazing actor, why he gets this relentless hate is beyond me.

A Journey To Love is the best drama of 2023. I knew from the beginning that we were gonna lose a lot of characters by the end, but we lost too many too quickly, it's obvious it was rushed at the end, so it lost a few points because of that; I'd give it a 4.6/5. I totally agree that the hate is UNCALLED FOR. I understand that there is a certain physical appearance that Chinese viewers like and think is good-looking, but as an international fan, I think he is very handsome; not everyone has/can be Yang Yang or Xu Kai levels of handsome. Either way, as you said, being beautiful wasn't part of his character, so people shouldn't be sending hate to him or the drama, AT ALL.
As you also mentioned, Ren Xin’s disciple was the most disorganized, and as a result annoying, character. However, I've been obsessed with characters that can be strong and kind, while at the same time extremely dark ever since I watched Netflix's "Shadow and Bone." Ben Barnes character absolutely captivated me, and since Li Tong Guang was a bit similar I was EXTREMELY EXCITED about his character at the beginning/middle of the drama. Sadly, by the end, everything ended in disappointment. Even if Chang Hua Sen's acting isn't top-notch, it was good enough, and so his character could have been one of the best, even memorable like He Lan Dou's, but the writers failed this particular character and, as a result, the whole plot crashed and burned in the last few episodes.
Still, this drama did something no other drama was able to do this year: truly make me care about ALL the characters. When they were happy, I was grinning, and when the plot got juicy I was screaming! By the end, I needed to take hour-long breaks between episodes because I couldn't stop crying!! So yeah, even if the ending was a mess, everything that came before it made it so worthwhile regardless. My favorite part was the relationship between the leads, it truly shows that a relationship can blossom healthily even if both people have/are experiencing trauma, and that is through communication, trust, mutual understanding, and without judgment.
My favorite character is definitely Yuan Lu. I actually skipped his death scene because I'm still not strong enough to actually sit down and watch it. Just speeding through it I was bawling my eyes out, red-faced, and out of breath, so that will be something I experience some other day, today I need some peace. I'm really looking forward to the actor's future projects, I'm a fan for sure! Also, Hua Sen is extremely handsome, and I will be following his career. Hopefully, his acting progresses quickly now that he's becoming more popular.
The insane amount of hate for Liu Yunning’s looks on the internet is so unsettling to me. Like he’s already been in a few dramas and people praise his singing, but when he acts in this specific drama he gets so much hate. It’s messed up.

Production wise the drama is top notch and the script and pacing is quite good. But it also expose the short coming of an original story where the script writers don’t know how to end a story and don’t put enough thoughts in what to do with characters they created. Hence, there’s the last few episodes where the script writers just rushing to end the story arch of each character. In addition, there’s too many subsidiary characters that promised more than what’s been delivered. So, story wise it’s really not as comprehensive and as good as the earlier wonderland of Love, which is an adaptation. There are many people dying scenes in this drama, but in terms of dramatic effect, none is as moving as one dying scene in Wonderland of Love where a bunch of major subsidiary characters were killed off one after another. For the good start that this drama created, I have to say the ending sucks, big time.
I agree. WOL in no masterpiece and it is a fairytale but it has a clear beginning, logical development of story and a nice end, it is a coherent story. I managed to watch WOL till the very end without skipping, JtL I could not.
Liu Yuning may not be classically handsome but he does have charisma and appeal. I personally liked his looks better than the other idols that look almost feminine.
I wasn’t a fan of the drama the first few eps cause it was too much about people who soon got killed and I wished instead of that we had a better background stories of that 5 men who got together but later I was really enjoying it until they decided to waste all those good characters and development with that cuttings and jumps in space and time… like what? A reasonable really high potential series turned into a soup of accidents that viewers had no choice but to accept it as it was… I don’t mind the sad ending but I do mind the assassination of characters based on nothing. I was wishing at least for a ending scene of Tongguang being a good regent or idk maybe being good with Yong but they weren’t even included in the last scene… I just feel so bad that they wasted this drama like that it could easily become one of the top 10 of everyone’s lists much higher than more well known series.
Finally I see someone pointing out the problems of Li Tongguang thru out the whole drama. I don’t wanna be overly conspiratorial based on unproven personal observations , but all those hate on LYN and high praise on Li Tongguang n its actor CHS happening the same time on PRC social platforms is really obscene to me

It stopped me from giving up on Chinese drama. I cannot believe anyone would think Liu Yuning is u g l y, that is soooooo ridiculous. He looks like a snow leopard, interesting looks, tall, broad shoulders, long legs, grown up presence, in short, charisma!- but in China, child faces are very popular, like Xu Kai, or Wu Lei etc al, and the same us true for actresses(. Here you sometimes get disturbing pairings, a ML in love with a little school girl...euwww. )If this female lead is weak , well, I do not know. It does without the trope of girl falling into guys arms by accident, pretending not to like OR behaving like a desperate stray dog towards the ML, are these trope-laden dramas written for illiterate factory workers? ...Great cast all around, especially the cool princess!! As always, well founded review, you achieve 110%.

Shocked that people have the audacity to determine ‘beauty’ for everybody else. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While Liu Yuning is not my kind of beauty, I found his acting of this role superlative, 🎉in that in the moments he had to convey this character, he did it with such conviction that he became extremely attractive and charismatic. He owned his martial art moments…they were excellent. His leadership of the group was also perfect.
I totally agree with you about Yang Ying…she was definitely outstanding and has to be the best female to male adaptation I have seen so far. So believable. I agree with your criticisms but the only difference I had with Luo Tuongang becoming the regent was I understood there was a assumed understanding that he was not alone in this role and that would make him a good regent. The inference was, there in the mentioning of his wife being referred to with him as being the keepers of the state of Yan. (Hope I got the names right 😅) I really enjoyed this series.

I never notices her before but will now keep a look out for her. 13th is good looking but I only remembered him for his looks but now No 13 character is etched in my brain. I didn't find the ML ugly and why do the actors have to be "pretty" to work in drama's? I like the acting and interaction of the group. I was invested in this drama from start to finish. Each character hit theyre mark. It was a sad ending, but that happens in war. I didn't let social media criticism stop me from watching and will probably watch again.

I too don't understand why there are haters of the ML. I like the drama as a whole. I liked that Liu Yuning was 2nd lead for awhile willing to vie his time to hone his acting skills before becoming a ML. And he showed his improvement in this drama. I totally didn't like some of his past dramas where his acting was rigid. I just care more about the story, maybe bec I'm an overseas drama lover. I'm more detached and not too absorbed with the actors and actresses.

This drama has issues, but the one thing that makes it the best period drama of the year for me is that it portrays REASONABLE characters, who talk things through, communicate, not the usual one dimensional villains or lovers. The writing felt actually smart, and didn't feel like my intelligence was insulted, like in so many other dramas.
I completely agree on the little princess, she is also one of my favorite characters in this drama, alongside Ren Ruyi. Yu Shisan too. The side characters are truly memorable, not just stumbling blocs to highlight the main leads. It feels like a story with depth.

Okay, but Liu Yu ning being insulted for looking ugly is a big pile of horse crap, because he is hot and I will fight everyone who says otherwise. Anyways, A journey to love was such a good drama, this is one of those rare instances where 50 episodes are actually encouraged compared to 40 episodes lol. The only thing that threw me off was how everyone just started dying at one point, and how stupid Li Tongguang gets out of nowhere. In addition to that we never really heard how the Empress of An and Ren Ruyi got closer?

Am an international fan of Liu Yuning, from the first time that I heard him sing an OST for a drama, I got hooked. Watched him in THE LONG BALLAD, LEGEND OF ANLE and A JOURNEY TO LOVE, and he is very GOOD with his acting, so I don't get what's the problem with these HATERS. LIU YUNING IS A VERY GOOD ACTOR AND A VERY GOOD SINGER PERIOD.

For me his acting is really good. i love all his character especially this drama, he really nailed it. For me he good looking to, but i love more of his acting.
True he wasn't ugly in fact he looked very handsome in this drama plus his acting suprised me. He is better than most so called pretty boys. I became a fan after watching him as Ning Yuanzhou. He has this incredible aura of being villian-like one second then cute and adorable in another. Other pretty boy actors won't be able to pull that off.

Pretty boys are all over the place in the chinese dramaland nowadays and most of them only have their looks but the performances really tend to disappoint.I miss cdramas like this with serious yet very fun and fluffy vibes not too boring and with over-used romance and cringy atmosphere based dramas.
Yu Shisan played by Fang Yilun definitely left a strong impression. A unique refreshing character who was not merely a comic relief but agreed that I wish we could have gotten more screentime for him so we could see more of what he was as a person and his character arc too.
Yang Ying was the complete character and had the best development arc and watching it happen as a viewer was so satisfactory. He Landou's acting really was the cherry on top, she owned her scenes I loved her so much!
Li Tongguang was a constant point of frustration. So much screentime and yet you get the same thing again and again.Such unexplored character development, he had potential but everytime I would think that okay I might like him now, he would go and do something that would make me wanna smack him.Really felt like such a waste.
An issue with the ending I have is I'm tired of open endings. Even if Chu Yue was having a dream, honestly it was weird to me that we see her, not Yang Ying and not Li Tongguang bidding farewell. Like why her?!
Agree especially the ending re Chu Yue. Why her? She was only really close to Shi-San among the guys, and didn't develop deep connections with the the rest to be missing them that much. What is she smoking! 😂
It'll be more appropriate for Yang Ying to be "hallucinating" or "seeing them" at the prairie here. Not Chu Yue!

It wasnt a dream they were showing that chu yue was going to die and at her last moments she saw them that they are happy and together. It wouldnt make sense for litonguang and yang ying to do this becauze their role in An country is very imp and they couldnt die or it would through the country in peril.
@@manalnadeem9190 again as Avenue x said it would've been moving if they showed it that way but nothing during the episode gave you that info that she is about to die. It was just up for interpretation of the viewer, so anyone could make up any scenario of why she was seeing them. The ending still did not make sense, it was like they put it in just because. I'm very done with open endings where I have to basically do the writer's job and make up scenarios in my head to interpret what exactly is the ending.

'Your mother didn't beat you up enough' really got me. As an international viewer, I was flabbergasted by the vicious attack on LYN looks. Like?? How?? He has beautiful body proportions for period drama with Hanfu, his movements were majestic without trying too much, and he has charisma as leader of the pack, we all can witness it in the drama. Attacking someone's face, well he is far from ugly anyway, is LOW. And I hate this part about cdrama industry in general, the smear campaigns are massive and vicious, on the other hand, you can love someone blindly to the point of worshipping a human being. That was crazy.
There are a lot of things you can objectively criticize from this drama like you said, we invested our time and loved those characters in 34 episodes just for the writers brutally unalive them by the last 6 episodes, for no reason whatsoever. So unnecessary and rushed IMO...
I don't watch yang yang, xu kai, and others with pretty faces anymore, because they cannot act, same expression, it's really bad, most is only 2 episode than I switch to drama with good acting

One thing that is for sure, I didn’t regret to watch this or purchase subscription for this coz it was still amazing and still rewatching for the nth time..😊😊😊😊 I give this a 10 because even the death scene was portrayed nicely… All characters got the right screen time for you to love them..
