join me in discord to chat about dramas amongst many other things :) discord.gg/NDgyfaNFW7 please let me know if there’s anything I missed that I should watch! I’m considering checking out Love Song in Winter and ofc the dramas I mentioned in my previous video, if you haven’t seen that check it out because I mention 2025 dramas I am excited to watch as well! ua-cam.com/video/FZIpzuIH33k/v-deo.html I’ll see you next week with kdrama edition!
Recommend you check out Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, I know that it's something that you were not super interested in, I believe because of Esther which is fair but I think her voice and persona fit so so well within this 'game' or 'manga' vibe. I think it really is a break out role for the male lead and the commentary on the friendship of the main cast while they are at this critical moment of they are all hiding things from each other yet they all care about each other is really interesting. Anyway! I recommend to give it a shot!
I don't know if you've watched this drama but this is my most fav it's "Story of Kunning Palace". The ML is my fav actor Zhang Linghe from the Princess Royal with my fav FL Bailu. I learnt about Princess Royal after watching The story of Kunning palace but nothing can beat Story of Kunning palace in my heart
Check out "Go back Lover" as well he's the actor from Blossom which I haven't seen yet. It's a really lovely drama. Hope you will like it too. I just completed it and it was awesome
I think Blossom is one of the best dramas written in 2024. It's like Destined or any of Zhao Lusi's dramas. I love how historical Chinese dramas keep to the originality of the Chinese culture. It's so cool.
omg YES I love how much history is incorporated in an interesting way! I'm not really into super heavy political dramas but most chinese dramas create complex political situations that create complex characters!! It also helps that they tend to be based off real people and situations which definitely adds to the appreciation of how our societies get formed due to these important historical figures!
Love the video and has given me some other dramas to consider watching. I think the appeal of Blossom is really how the 'Born again' trope was executed. No falling in love at first sight and the characters stay true to their goals and make consistent decisions based on their goals. Also really enjoyed the 'I see right through you BS', which was really refreshing and completely bypasses the horrible 'misunderstanding' tropes.
Aww thank you for watching 🥹🫶🏻 hopefully you enjoy the other ones! I think I've just seen too many born again and for some reason it just didn't do it for me but im glad it brings other people joy :)
I absolutely love Blossoms in Adversity, it has ruined other cdramas for me for alittle while haha because i keep thinking about it or comparing others to it. There is critic to be made about the relationship but personally I enjoyed their quiet co-existence so much. I felt like for the most part they were in their own stories and the mature conversations between them fit their characters so well. I also enjoyed how down bad he was for her haha which might not have been obvious at first glance but he kind of was in a way incompetent as a person, more so he was a follower, even at the end he doesn't really solve any issues but when it came to her he always tried and did his best to protect her. I feel like it reflected her family in some way. They couldn't do much to help her, she for the most part didn't need it but when she did they just tired their best. This drama will always have a special place in my heart because of the main leads, and her family. I'm sure i'll rewatch it in the next few months haha
So the reason I personally was so in love with Blossom and why it's actually my number one period drama of 2024 was the production. Lighting, cinematography, and direction were much better than the other's I watched this year. And the way they did the whole second life thing was well done imo. Some of the other dramas I watched the first few episodes would be great and then the lighting of a scene would be like they are in a Sam's or Costco. Over lit night and day shots that didn't add anything to the visual language of a drama. (I'm a production nerd and a slowburn romance girlie)
I watched all the dramas you mentioned and liked all of them. I especially loved Blossom because the main leads, Li Yun Rui and Zoey, did a fantastic job. Their chemistry was amazing. One thing I particularly enjoyed was that they got married midway through the series, allowing viewers to see the development of their relationship and the trust between them.
Oh that's so cool! How many cdramas did you watch then? Asking to see how many more dramas I need to step up my game for next year haha Also I agree happy endings with marriage arent as satisfactory, there's so much more to life after marriage
For me, Blossom hits perfectly for these reasons. 1) i am hyper independent as a trauma response and the writing of the FL really captured that and I loved feeling so represented and I could understand how she became who she is. 2) the wronged-so-get-sent-back-in-time-do-over plot is cliche but was well done and utilized here. 3) SMART LEADS. THANK FUCKING GOD. 4) Song Mo was the PERFECT male lead for me (mostly bc of his relation to #1). Consistent, supportive, validating, but never domineering or bossy. Also his lil perception super power lead him into GAZING INTO HER SOUL quite a lot. I think they could have dialed up the sex appeal, but cdramas always leave a bit to be desired for me as someone who prefers kdramas. (Especially coming off when the phone rings GAWD)
I love this comment as it clearly shows how we connect to different parts and it isn't always just black and white/good or bad when it comes to writing I definitely am not a hyper independent trauma response type so it might be why I feel more detached from her than say the FL in will love in spring, these kind of comments are always so helpful in determining whether or not I want to watch something! Also agree I could do more with sexual tension 👀
@wendyminn absolutely. People have different lived experiences that color us in different ways. That perception helps us connect or disconnect to things. I really realized how much I identified with her character around the 17-20 episode range. Her unwillingness to submit to love immediately after seeing love hurt her mother and remembering her own marriage and the betrayal from that were absolutely logical to me as a survival instinct. I have somewhat similar experiences that make me feel similarly about dating and love. the moment it hit me how relatable and well done they represented that was after she gave in and they got married she started getting so much softer in specific ways. The biggest one to me was after the gang raid scene she had held down the fort successfully but he showed up after and she said something like “I was fine but now that I see you I can’t stop from crying” and oh my god the way that sentiment hit my heart. I was like YES that’s exactly how I have felt when I felt like it was safe to put down the loads I have carried in the past and lean on someone else. Inside, sometimes I just want to blubber like a baby too because I’m so scared, but when work needs to get done I can’t afford that. But as she felt more safe with him, and knew she was ok, she could let the fear and vulnerability show instead of staying so buttoned up and put together. So nicely done.
aww this so sweet I'm so glad you felt so seen with the drama because that's literally the best feeling ever🥹 hoping you continue to meet people who you feel safe to be vulnerable around
1. The Double 2. The Blossom 3. Love Game in Eastern Fantasy 4. Melody of Golden Age Edit: OMG, how could I forgot: 1. place would actually be Fangs of Fortune !!! The drama with the best cinematography, beautiful actors with beautiful scenes and great acting. A story about friendship and the big grey zone between good and evil.
I love how most people's ratings include a drama I either mentioned here or my other vid but I never had a place to talk about melody of golden age! It's something I've been debating about starting, someone in the discord also said it was one of her top dramas! What did you think about the FL? I'm hesitant to start it bc they say she's annoying but I also have HIGH tolerance for FLs
@@wendyminnhmm, she wasn’t that bad and I would assume for your taste it would be rather 7.5 but I really enjoyed it and the ML was just great. Maybe you want to give it a chance. It‘s an amusing story. I felt well entertained.
Will Love in Spring was so good. Very complicated characters trying to make it through. Like real people. No CEOs, no poor girls eventually falling in love with their bosses, etc.
So agree with you. That's what I like abt the 2 leads & how they kinda manouevred their way around the elephant in the room - her being 1-legged. I found their love scenes so touching & deserving when they overcame the shy awkwardness.
Zhou Yutong performance played a huge in part in Will Love in Spring being my favorite watch this year! Never seen anything like that in a cdrama before, it was phenomenal, and soooo refreshing to see such a flawed female lead just minding her own, trying to make it big by her own efforts. The entire cast did an amazing job portraying these very real and very particular people, but hers was oof, I’m carrying Zhuang Jie with me for a while. It's got it all, in my opinion: great acting, stunning cinematography, memorable background music and very important life lessons.
Ugh I agree. She felt so real and when she smiled to hide her pain I could cry 😭 Definitely one of my favorite written female leads ever. Nothing could make me hate her
Amidst A Snowstorm is one of my faves for the year! Definitely like #2 or #3, but I love the game, so that helped me connect where others may not have. However, I haven't seen the Double or Princess Royal yet, so I may agree with your ranking more when I see them sometime this year.
oh that's so interesting! I literally still don't know the rules of the game after watching the entire drama LOL I'll be honest The Princess Royal might not suit everyone's taste... I clearly see it's flaws but can't help but smile throughout the drama! but also that novel and my imagination might be doing all the heavy lifting haha
Im sorry but The Princess Royal was so hard for me to watch that i dropped it at some point. I could not stand the FL because she barely made an expression and she was literally emotionally constipated for most of the drama. I absolutely love the ML and have seen him in other works like The Story of the Kunning palace and My Journey to You. I liked him in this one as well but..for all the budget and the intricate plot I disliked the role they gave the FL. I don't know if you've ever watched these but The Story of the Kunning Palace and A Familiar Stranger are really good. Would love to see your reviews on those.
Haha despite it being my number 1 drama this year this comment is so valid. When I initially watched I was like huh she doesn't look right in a historical but got over it (maybe bc I was loving the plot progression) I would say the ML's acting in this doesn't hold a candle to the SOKP (mainly bc the way he's written in TPR) I've seen the story of kunning palace but not a familiar stranger! In short SOKP was a stand out for the ML character and acting alone. Love bai lu but the character in contrast to his was kinda bland. I also was a little confused when and how she fell in love with him. It got an 8 from me !
Wow! I don't think it's a common first historical drama but if you manage to get into the genre I highly recommend love like the galaxy!! Then I would make my way to The Untamed and Story of Minglan since they're 50 and 78 episodes respectively 💀
Will Love in Spring is such a gem. Aside from the good plot, the characters were also well written and very good OST track list. I hope more people can watch this underrated drama.
My favorites are The Double, the Legend of Shenli, The Rise of Ning (blossoms in Adversity and The Blossoms are in the same category, point-wise), and The Tale of Rose. I didn't think the Princess Royal was all that. It was okay, and I just could not finish it.
ah we must have similar tastes! I've seen clips of fake it til you make it and it's SO my genre. lowkey i mightve seen enough clips of what i want (the romance lol) so i might not bother to watch it in full but hey if I get bored one day maybe I'll get to it haha
So I watched 14 Period/Costume Cdramas that aired during 2024 and 7 Modern Cdramas that aired in 2024. I watched more that aired prior to 2024 in 2024 because of going down rabbit holes of actors previous work. It's always interesting to see what other's thought of the shows you watched. I didn't watch 3 of the shows you mentioned. Will Love in Spring was my top modern cdrama and after finishing Blossom it was my number 1 period/costume drama. Very much looking forward to watching Cherry Amber/Our Generation some time next year staring the same leads from The Princess Royal. The 2ML character in TPR gave me the ick so bad that it got harder to watch toward the end when he started to get more screentime than the ML's character. (I'd like to state for the record the CHARACTER not the actor gave me the ick) Zhang Ling He(lead actor from TPR) is currently filming with the same director that did Blossom as the ML, so I think you might really enjoy that one once it airs just going based off of your comments in the video.
I get your feelings when you read the autheentic work and then watch it when its a drama.Details that are good are usually ommitted sometimes. That happened to me once when I checked out a web novel of a drama.
100% side with you on that. I don't basically fall for that LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT crap, I really need the chemistry to start natural not just through first sight. May be we were all watching a reality show in a drama. I also questioned and I was like are these scenes really improvised by the actors themselves??.
Someone who gets it!!!! I don't get the obsession with fall in love at first sight like looks will fade and you really have to live with their character 😭😭 it's genuinely not that romantic to be obsessed that easily for no reason
@@wendyminn...just wanted to point out that he didn't just fall in love with her because of her looks. He also became interested in her because of her background as a professional billiards player, something he could totally relate and connect with. Aside from her looks, one of the first things he noticed when he walked into the bar where they met was her bag of cue sticks. In that first episode, we even saw him looking up her stats as well as other info on her as a billiards player. I doubt the case will be that her looks will fade and then he'll have nothing to like or relate to about her.
i was talking more about the trope in general haha and not necessarily this drama! For the drama I do think looks is what got him interested to learn more about her (and tbh this is very normal in real life so it's not wrong of him) and upon learning more about her he fell deeper and deeper. This wasn't as intense obsession that other dramas have with the fall in love at first sight trope For me I just think it's a shame that people can be so choosy with who they want to get to know :( I've just been on the end of not being that person someone wants to get to know and it just sucks. like I'm sorry I don't "look" like an interesting person but why don't you try to get to know me regardless 😭 but idk we are all human and do these things sometimes without even knowing
@@wendyminn In short, it is what it is. people have their own standards of choosing who they wanna be with. I just say it's the charm and aura a person senses and sees in who they wanna be with.
Yes! Will Love in Spring mentioned! Well deserved 2nd place! This drama is such a gem and next to The Tale of Rose those are both my absolute favorites among contemporary C-dramas of 2024.
Honestly she might even deserve first my emotions are so mixed maybe I should've just tied them 😭 Heard good things about tale of rose! I think I probably won't watch bc it isn't my drama but tbh the more I hear about a drama being good the more interested I get 👀
I started watching c drama this year after watching k drama since 2004 (was in 4th grade, run out of k dramas to watch in September lol) I gave hidden love a try and loved it! Then started when I fly towards to you and I was just hooked to the c dramas since then I have watched a lot (have free time currently so 😂) I loved the historical dramas omgg I am so hooked and it’s so exciting because I have found a new joy since k dramas ❤❤
Ahh so glad you've discovered this world 🤩 it's definitely great when there's no kdramas Also hard agree with love like the galaxy, so excited for you and fun dramas you have to watch 🤩
When I saw Zhou Yutong take on this drama as the female lead in a way that was really good. She brought the character to life comapared to the BOSS character she had in the drama Begin Again.
I think she plays similar characters but I love them! her character in begin again is also this free spirited flamboyant doesn't take anyone "seriously" with a really broken inside. But I love those type of characters which is also why I liked begin again. With these two works I might be a fan and will keep up with whatever she's in
Loved your video. Are You The One was a good drama. It has good action, plot and the hints of romance work. There are also some humorous moments sprinkled here and there which added to the enjoyment of the drama. The Legend of Shen Li was an enjoyable watch. It has a good mix of humor, action and emotion. The Double is the stand out banger of the first half of 2024. Another well-done drama that you can rewatch. I agree with your take on Blossoms in Adversity. It was such a well-rounded and layered drama. You couldn't help but root for her to succeed. And you're right that romance takes a back seat to her growth. The main male character also blossoms, as he's able to finally stand up against his father figure. It's a very good drama. Blossom is the banger for the second half of 2024. Though the story has been done before, there's a refreshing feel about it, likely due to the actor's ability to emote. I'm really enjoying it. 😊
Love how I'm responding to comments and I saw u wrote this 58 seconds ago lol! So many people love fangs of fortune that I really think I should give it a try but it's not my genre 😭 but idk maybe it'll be one of my few exceptions I'll keep it on my plan to watch but I don't know if I'll ever get to it, rn I'm too busy with guardians of the dafeng 🤩
In Legend of Shenli I loved the fight scene between the female demon (IDK fox or snake demon) in red and the antagonist. The visual feast of a fight scene where you can see the personality of a character in the way they fight was a fun watch (that scene felt like it was setting up another series or was like watching a movie). Based on that I'd watch a show all about her, but i know cdrama wouldn't do it justice and would swap out the actress (who was killing it there) for someone younger but not better. She was the MVP in the show.
I really enjoyed watching this! Honestly, we don't really share the same opinions about dramas lolol but I always enjoy listening to other people's thoughts My top 2024 cdrams were (in order) Joy of Life 2, Blossom (you're absolutely correct that it's not really breaking any storytelling molds, but it is really well done and I think that's why I liked it so much), Fangs of Fortune, the Rise of Ning, and Eternal Brotherhood! Anyway, I'm definitely subbing and looking forward to more :)
I was nodding along to your thoughts until you came to Will Love in Spring and I just had to comment how much I APPRECIATE what you said about the drama. Honestly I was reading what people were saying when it was airing and when people kept trashing the female lead I was getting mightily pissed to the extent I thought i will just stop reading anything and just watch and appreciate my girl even though generally i love experiencing the drama community responses after episode airs. Yes she has many flaws but people were totally disregarding what she went through in life to achieve what she did and not neglecting her responsibilities and then expecting her to drop everything and settle down because a nice man (and yes he is an extremely wonderful man) likes her, like her ambitions and feelings mean nothing as a woman. I feel like this is symptomatic of a lot of asian drama fans where they excuse a lot of crap from male leads but the female leads have to be perfect, smiling and grateful. (sorry about the rant) But i was so happy to listen to what you had to say because honestly i loved loved loved the drama, the honesty the flaws the struggles, the family dynamics, not to mention the chemistry (hello!!) everything was perfect. And also it was visually stunning, one of the most beautifully filmed dramas of the year I would say. Like you I have to much to say about the drama but I will stop now lol. Thank you for your video.
Haha I totally got worried this was gonna go the other way and you were gonna hate it😂 I agree the community responses genuinely make watching a drama on air so enjoyable!! But I was thoroughly disappointed to see such negative reception 😭 I'm glad the will love in spring appreciators made it here tho
girl i think you are my bestie bcs i do not see ppl hyping will live in spring it is the best drama this year for me, i loveeeeee it sm like i can rewatch it 20 times and still enjoy it
the acting was so good both lixian and zhou yutong are great actors and bcs my fav genre is slice of lif this was a perfect drama for me, it gives my liberation notes vibes which is also my fav kdrama. i highly recommend watching it
i saw so many ppl hating on the fl saying that she is a red flag and she is annoying but i think her action are pretty reasonable bcs she is broken and she always feel like she is less than others which makes her character well written for me and her actions just make sense, but we are just used to see mls doing that but when it comes to fls we just find them annoying
This is so funny I love how I'm reading the comments nodding like yes, yes yes Someone who gets it ✊🏻 Also I've seen my liberation notes! I just low-key didn't get the plotline it mightve just been a concept that I failed to appreciate oop
Followed lost you forever a little bit. I agree, synopsis was great but story line also made me go off. I was literally interested in who she would end up with since they were three guys.
Blossom got my rewarching over n over again caz of how good it was A man who cares about his girl, never forces her, cares about consent, willing help and back off when she wants too OMG off scree they are soooooo sugar sweet
Okay the tism is going to tism about the length of Cdramas verses Kdramas. If you truly don't care please just skip this comment. Honestly just trying to help engagement on this video because I like her takes. All Cdramas have a 40minutes per episode cut off max 40 episodes per season. So roughly 26.6 hours max. Kdramas range from about an hour to hour and twenty minutes aka 60-80 minutes per episode, so roughly 21.3 hours max. So anytime you see a Chinese drama that is 24-32 episodes it is around the same length as your average 16 episode kdrama. A lot of Kdramas are much shorter now leaning into a more Western episode count and so lots of shows that are 8 to 12 episodes that you can easily finish in a day.
Ah this comment is so cute, what's funny is I also did the math except I counted kdramas 16 eps at 16 hours and I even mentioned it in video until I cut it out thinking who else cares besides me LOL I think I ended up rounding a bit and deciding I watched around 20 kdramas worth of cdramas and thats not a bad number even though Im pretty sure I watched over 30 kdramas this year... To be fair some were 8 and even 6 episodes Still think I need to step up my cdrama game regardless haha
Mine would be Blossom. It's the top of everything. The cast, storyline, directing, cinematography, music score, costume, chemistryyy, etc. Hats off to the team. I think the only complaint I got about it is how their kissing scenes are mostly cut short 😌. I enjoy The Double, Princess Royale, and Are You the One too.
I gave everybody Loves Me like 8 on ratings coz of the gaing concept. But as you have said how their characters were written, those were the right nails. I really think they wanted to bring out the office romance style and in my opinion, it just did not get to the bars that I needed as a viewer.
Wow this is truly the greatest compliment ever 🥹 It's something I really struggled with because I personally like long videos so I make long videos, but I know it's hard to be care to listen to someone that long😅 Thank you for watching and leaving such a nice comment 🥹🫶🏻
@@wendyminn Thank you. Your presentation has a witty humour while still being on point. I think that is what makes it so interesting. Also, not being peer pressured into liking something which everyone likes but having your own opinions and presenting them unapologetically and respectfully.
@@wendyminnI also want to add another thing which I like. You don’t know / understand everything in the shows but that’s not stopping you from enjoying them. Others would be scared to post something they don’t completely understand but that’s not the case with you.
Hi, i stumbled upon this video and i kinda agree with your take on follow your heart. I expected more but ended up disappointed :( Btw iam currently watching riverside code at qingming festival and its goodd so far
LOL follow your heart is so random like nobody seemed to be watching it, I love the beauty inside but historical version was just not it Oo sounds interesting I'll check it out! Legend of dafeng aired today and I also think I'll start that
I loved the Double. The restraint between the characters because they each had more pressing priorities was good and built the tension. The Princess Royal was fun, except for the scene where he assaults her - it came out of nowhere and honestly I have retconed that scene out of existence because it seemed so out of character for him.
The chemistry off the charts📈📈 I agree, it's even harder bc she looks scared 😭 annoyed and angry I can handle in fiction but scaring her made me want to throw up a little and I have to erase that scene from my mind to move on
I watched Princess Royal immediately after watching Story of Kunning Palace where Zhang Ling He’s character forcibly kisses the female lead in that as well. I hope he stops accepting roles where that happens, cuz I like him but I don’t like that trope.
I normally watch mostly american or european shows, but this was the year of cdramas for me. I really liked a lot of them. My favorites were also As Beautiful As You, The Rise of Ning, Blossom, The Double, Are You The One, Blossoms in Adversity, The Princess Royal and Melody of Golden Age. I'm hoping 2025 will be just as good if not better though the only trailer that's caught my attention so far is Calming Waves.
I also added the rest of your recs to my watchlist haha. I really hope you'll keep sharing your thoughts on cdramas. I loved the way you reviewed them; it made it easy to tell what could pique my interest.
13:40 Surprisingly, I also felt that way. It's like she was always too optimistic. He made the right decisions and I get that she was being emotional with it. But I did not feel like the guy was being mean. He protected what she wanted to protect while making good business decisions. I feel you when you compared "The Double" and "Blossom". I expected much more from Blossom considering it was trending soo much. I loved The Double much more. 23:10 is soo true though. But that just made me love it even more for some reason. With "Amidst a Snowstorm of Love", the drama, to me, seemed quite unique considering it was about Billiards. And "The Princess Royal" was sooo amazing. The very main plot-lines. Both coming back together and the reveal of their death. Did not expect until just before it was revealed.
I thought Legend of Shenli will make it to the list. So i was kind of shocked. It is in my top three. I also love blossom, it is about time Li Yun Rui got his name to shine as a ML. I adore him even as coldhearted jerk as Yuan Shen (LLTG)
:O shocked in that it was low? Or that it was high? I never hated him in LLTG ! I definitely imagined him in a different role to breakout lol but I'm glad he's getting big!
I think journey of love is a 2023 drama right? Either way I didn't see it lol for Fangs of fortune I've heard great reviews about it but I was hesitant to start because it doesn't seem to be heavy on the romance
@ oh yep journey to love is 2023 I thought it was 2024. But you should definitely watch it. And give melody of golden age a try too. Yeah fangs of fortune is more of a friendship kind of drama.
The untamed is the first ever c-drama that i have watched... ❤❤ and now i am currently watching fangs of foutune Its so good guys, i really recommend it... 😊
Hey Wendy! I recently discovered and then subscribed to your channel, and I will definitely catch up on your drama reviews. I enjoyed this particular one😊🇿🇲
I think identifying with the female lead is one of the most important things… i was agreeing with your list soo much until number one. 😅i personally cannot sympathise with a self absorbed girl…and kinda psycho, specially if the guy is not equally powerful….i couldn’t even finish it even though I really really tried. The double in the other hand i was hooked. The only thing is that as much as she is an amazing actress, i felt she was a bit too old for me compared to him? But it was so good that it didn’t even matter. So it’s so subjective.
You know surprisingly enough I started it and couldn't finish :( I think the slow country side dramas don't appeal to me for some reason even though you would think I'd love it
I find the dubbing in most cdramas hard to take..some of the actors do use their own voices..some are live recorded even.. for me finding a good cdrama is a once in a blue moon thingy lol..I wish there were more high budget dramas..and I don't like how long cdramas are T_T
that's so interesting! I honestly have had no issues with it, when it's noticeable it's just kinda funny but it doesn't affect my watching experience I'm curious if there were any cdramas that you liked this year! For me I thought this was a pretty good year, especially in comparison to kdramas because I'm editing my video for best kdramas rn and it's not looking so hot :(
I couldn’t get into blossom but after I saw all the good feedback on it , I decided to give it another try but still couldn’t watch it. 😅Wish I did like it though since I don’t have any other dramas I’m watching
Haha it be like that sometimes, we all have our own tastes! at this point you'd have to go back in time to watch previous stuff because there's nothing airing at the moment, I'm only watching guardians of the dafeng and I don't quite hate it or love it
@@wendyminnyess been rewatching who rules the world (loved this drama) but saw today the blossoming of love was released so will give that one a try. Another drama with the word blossom in it so that’s funny lol
Who rules the world is a good one!! Love my girl lu si (hopefully she's doing better her poor thing😭) omg another blossom one I'll have to look into it
This is only the dramas I watched in 2024! I watched til the end of the moon in 2023 so it would've been in my list last year if i made this type of video haha
Couldn't finish your 1# The Princess Royal..it got too diverted from romance to angst and politics(which I don't like) if it had more romance than strategy and all I would've gone with it..not saying it's bad drama I know how refreshing it is to see a strong female character
I'm a complete newbie in the world of Chinese drama! I tried a long time ago but unfortunately it didn't work And then last year I came across Hidden Love, I loved it, however it was quite hard to find dramas that I could like like this one! I watched love of nirvanna and when I fly towards you which was pretty good and right now I'm watching the story of a pearl girl with Zhao Lusy! It's great to do recaps like this because it allows those who are lost to come across good dramas! Thank you ! I Will try the double next !
Ah I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I would never want anyone to miss out on a great drama 🥰 we spread the joy here Also I love how diverse the genre of dramas you've watches are haha
yeahhh that makes sense, when i was editing that part I realized it's probably because censorship (which is also why they turn a lot of dramas into "dreams" to pass censorship)
Actually I didn't finish it! I mentioned it in my other cdrama video but i was watching it, it got sad and I put it on hold and heard the end was sad so ended up dropping it, I'm not a sad ending kind girl 🥲
Unfortunately yes 😔 One of my many 2025 goals is to get better at mandarin as I'm getting desperate to read Chinese novels and understand the nuances lost in translation 🥲 Most modern dramas I am able to understand 70-90% but career related vocab can take me out lol
for me the issue with aasol is it is sooooo not real, like we are not used to this much of green flag that it was uncomfortable to watch it but i like it tho hahahah, this and lmlmv were too hard to believe
:O how long did it take you to watch 130+ ? I've been watching since 2015 and I'm only at 83 dramas edit: cdramas** ive seen wayyy more than 83 dramas lol

please let me know if there’s anything I missed that I should watch! I’m considering checking out Love Song in Winter and ofc the dramas I mentioned in my previous video, if you haven’t seen that check it out because I mention 2025 dramas I am excited to watch as well! ua-cam.com/video/FZIpzuIH33k/v-deo.html
I’ll see you next week with kdrama edition!
Zhou lusi was admitted to hospital on the 28th of December. I hope she gets better soon
The Double, Blossoms in Adversity, and Blossom, the BEST.
yess both are best period drama this year imo
Taste ‼️
Blossoms in adversity really got me to the spot.
@@audmickey1307 I hear you. To me, I really see the script was well written.
and blossom too
Now I might invest some time in tryin to watch this drama … lots of ppl on Reddit recommended it too.
Asking to see how many more dramas I need to step up my game for next year haha
Also I agree happy endings with marriage arent as satisfactory, there's so much more to life after marriage
Nothing got me hooked like The Double this year. One of my nieces who is not into Cdrama was drawn with this drama.
I love this comment as it clearly shows how we connect to different parts and it isn't always just black and white/good or bad when it comes to writing
I definitely am not a hyper independent trauma response type so it might be why I feel more detached from her than say the FL in will love in spring, these kind of comments are always so helpful in determining whether or not I want to watch something!
1. The Double
2. The Blossom
3. Love Game in Eastern Fantasy
4. Melody of Golden Age
Edit: OMG, how could I forgot: 1. place would actually be Fangs of Fortune !!!
Melody of golden age ????
@@moderatelymodest yes, sorry meant melody of golden age 😀
Will Love in Spring was so good. Very complicated characters trying to make it through. Like real people. No CEOs, no poor girls eventually falling in love with their bosses, etc.
Glad someone else knows what's up!!!
She felt so real and when she smiled to hide her pain I could cry 😭
Definitely one of my favorite written female leads ever. Nothing could make me hate her
Couldn't agree more.. Will love in spring was a masterpiece!! ❤
I literally still don't know the rules of the game after watching the entire drama LOL
I'll be honest The Princess Royal might not suit everyone's taste...
When I initially watched I was like huh she doesn't look right in a historical but got over it (maybe bc I was loving the plot progression)
I would say the ML's acting in this doesn't hold a candle to the SOKP (mainly bc the way he's written in TPR)
I've seen the story of kunning palace but not a familiar stranger! In short SOKP was a stand out for the ML character and acting alone. Love bai lu but the character in contrast to his was kinda bland. I also was a little confused when and how she fell in love with him. It got an 8 from me !
I am really giving Blossom a shot since I am not a fan of historical dramas and so far... so good. Not a bad start.
Wow! I don't think it's a common first historical drama but if you manage to get into the genre I highly recommend love like the galaxy!! Then I would make my way to The Untamed and Story of Minglan since they're 50 and 78 episodes respectively 💀
@@wendyminn I am just at the top of the iceberg. Will see as I dig deeper.
@@wendyminn Thanks for the recommendations though.
Will Love in Spring is such a gem. Aside from the good plot, the characters were also well written and very good OST track list. I hope more people can watch this underrated drama.
Really loved Blossoms in Adversity and The Princess Royal too. Definitely will start Will Love in Spring soon
Oo hopefully you like it!!
Blossoms is my favorite for the 2024. Also amidst a snowstorm of love should be ranked higher! Hahah
Just saw the same comment somewhere else haha I'm just not a fall in love at first sight girl but can understand the appeal😂
My favorites are The Double, the Legend of Shenli, The Rise of Ning (blossoms in Adversity and The Blossoms are in the same category, point-wise), and The Tale of Rose. I didn't think the Princess Royal was all that. It was okay, and I just could not finish it.
Your 1 and 2 are my type of dramas. Subscribed. Loved both. The other dramai loved this year was Fake it till you make it.
ah we must have similar tastes! I've seen clips of fake it til you make it and it's SO my genre. lowkey i mightve seen enough clips of what i want (the romance lol) so i might not bother to watch it in full but hey if I get bored one day maybe I'll get to it haha
Blossoms in Adversity!!!! Well written, good cinematography, must watch!
The Princess Royal my favorite drama of 2024
:o omg twins! I'm surprised bc from the reddit community didn't seem like many people loved it 😭
I loved loved it, it was so watchable unlike some dramas that I watched last year 🤭
@@wendyminn I think because some the fan are not satisfied with the screen time of the ML in Last few episodes.
My number 1 is also Princess Royal 🫶🫶 the only drama (besides Yanxi Palace and Till The End of The Moon) that I watched more than 5 times 😂
This wasn't as intense obsession that other dramas have with the fall in love at first sight trope
For me I just think it's a shame that people can be so choosy with who they want to get to know :(
I've just been on the end of not being that person someone wants to get to know and it just sucks. like I'm sorry I don't "look" like an interesting person but why don't you try to get to know me regardless 😭 but idk we are all human and do these things sometimes without even knowing
@@wendyminn In short, it is what it is. people have their own standards of choosing who they wanna be with. I just say it's the charm and aura a person senses and sees in who they wanna be with.
@@wendyminn tbh, I side with your opinion too, it's valid with substance. As humans, we all operate differently in that space.
Yes! Will Love in Spring mentioned! Well deserved 2nd place! This drama is such a gem and next to The Tale of Rose those are both my absolute favorites among contemporary C-dramas of 2024.
Honestly she might even deserve first my emotions are so mixed maybe I should've just tied them 😭
Heard good things about tale of rose!
You should check out LOVE LIKE THE GALAXY it's 56 episodes
@ I definitely will!! So excited about it
Ahh so glad you've discovered this world 🤩 it's definitely great when there's no kdramas
Also hard agree with love like the galaxy, so excited for you and fun dramas you have to watch 🤩
I forgot to mention that family by choice (kdrama) is the same has go ahead (cdrama). They've changed the names and title and kept everything else
Just finished story of Ming lang omggg I LOVED IT!!! My gosh what a drama 100/10 goshhh I am still reeling from how good it was!
Love the princess royal ❤
When I saw Zhou Yutong take on this drama as the female lead in a way that was really good. She brought the character to life comapared to the BOSS character she had in the drama Begin Again.
I think she plays similar characters but I love them! her character in begin again is also this free spirited flamboyant doesn't take anyone "seriously" with a really broken inside. But I love those type of characters which is also why I liked begin again. With these two works I might be a fan and will keep up with whatever she's in
@@wendyminn Exactly, she's a great and vversatile actress.
@@wendyminn True, in begin again she was that free spirited boss lady. Liked that acting. I didn't know she would pull off those vibes.
Thank you for watching! Great seeing we had pretty similar thoughts, great minds think alike 🤝🏼
My favorite drama this year : Fang of forturne ( best caracters, pictures and so much beatiful) , the legend of shen li and blossom
Love how I'm responding to comments and I saw u wrote this 58 seconds ago lol!
So many people love fangs of fortune that I really think I should give it a try but it's not my genre 😭 but idk maybe it'll be one of my few exceptions
I'll keep it on my plan to watch but I don't know if I'll ever get to it, rn I'm too busy with guardians of the dafeng 🤩
I watched the double and then blossoms in adversity right after… blossoms was such a breath of fresh air after how dark the double was🤦🏻♀️
In Legend of Shenli I loved the fight scene between the female demon (IDK fox or snake demon) in red and the antagonist.
LOL I totally did not care much about the fight scenes, honestly even if the cgi was bad I'd still enjoy it equally I'm so indifferent haha
I really liked The Double. Nice story line and well executed
I really enjoyed watching this! Honestly, we don't really share the same opinions about dramas lolol but I always enjoy listening to other people's thoughts
My top 2024 cdrams were (in order) Joy of Life 2, Blossom (you're absolutely correct that it's not really breaking any storytelling molds, but it is really well done and I think that's why I liked it so much), Fangs of Fortune, the Rise of Ning, and Eternal Brotherhood!
Anyway, I'm definitely subbing and looking forward to more :)
ah that's so interesting you were still able to enjoy it! hopefully we will be able to agree on something eventually haha thank you for watching
Blossoms in adversity, Blossom, The double, Fangs of fortune and Are you the one are my favorites this year.
Haha I totally got worried this was gonna go the other way and you were gonna hate it😂
I agree the community responses genuinely make watching a drama on air so enjoyable!! But I was thoroughly disappointed to see such negative reception 😭 I'm glad the will love in spring appreciators made it here tho
I loveee the Blossom❤️
My top drama
1. Blossom
2. Rise of Ning
3. Are you the One
girl i think you are my bestie bcs i do not see ppl hyping will live in spring
it is the best drama this year for me, i loveeeeee it sm like i can rewatch it 20 times and still enjoy it
the acting was so good both lixian and zhou yutong are great actors and bcs my fav genre is slice of lif this was a perfect drama for me, it gives my liberation notes vibes which is also my fav kdrama. i highly recommend watching it
i saw so many ppl hating on the fl saying that she is a red flag and she is annoying but i think her action are pretty reasonable bcs she is broken and she always feel like she is less than others which makes her character well written for me and her actions just make sense, but we are just used to see mls doing that but when it comes to fls we just find them annoying
i literally wrote this before finishing the video just to see you saying exactly the same lol 😂
This is so funny I love how I'm reading the comments nodding like yes, yes yes
Someone who gets it ✊🏻
Also I've seen my liberation notes! I just low-key didn't get the plotline it mightve just been a concept that I failed to appreciate oop
Love Are You The One my fav Fujun and Furen Couple . The chemistry between Zhang Wangi and Wang Churan is 🔥🔥
My two favourites - Tale of Rose & Will Love in Spring :)
Followed lost you forever a little bit. I agree, synopsis was great but story line also made me go off. I was literally interested in who she would end up with since they were three guys.
I like Blossom and The
Legend of ShenLi. I guess I’ll watch Are You the One and Blossom in Adversity. Thank you for the recommendation
Yay hopefully you like them !!
Finally Will love in spring mentioned🎉🎉👏👏
Im glad I've found the appreciators 🥰
Blossom got my rewarching over n over again caz of how good it was

Ah this comment is so cute, what's funny is I also did the math except I counted kdramas 16 eps at 16 hours and I even mentioned it in video until I cut it out thinking who else cares besides me LOL
I think I ended up rounding a bit and deciding I watched around 20 kdramas worth of cdramas and thats not a bad number even though Im pretty sure I watched over 30 kdramas this year... To be fair some were 8 and even 6 episodes
Still think I need to step up my cdrama game regardless haha
That's funny because the gaming concept I don't love because I'm not a gamer lol
But regardless it just fell short
@@wendyminn I get that. That's for people like me who like video games and stuff like that.

Hi, i stumbled upon this video and i kinda agree with your take on follow your heart. I expected more but ended up disappointed :(
Btw iam currently watching riverside code at qingming festival and its goodd so far
LOL follow your heart is so random like nobody seemed to be watching it, I love the beauty inside but historical version was just not it
Oo sounds interesting I'll check it out! Legend of dafeng aired today and I also think I'll start that
Rating Admist a snowstrom so low is literally a crime
Understandable. Im just not a fall in love at first sight kind girl 😔
I really love their chemistry.I have the same thought 😅.love this pair ❤❤.
I loved the Double. The restraint between the characters because they each had more pressing priorities was good and built the tension.
The Princess Royal was fun, except for the scene where he assaults her - it came out of nowhere and honestly I have retconed that scene out of existence because it seemed so out of character for him.
The chemistry off the charts📈📈
I agree, it's even harder bc she looks scared 😭 annoyed and angry I can handle in fiction but scaring her made me want to throw up a little and I have to erase that scene from my mind to move on
I watched Princess Royal immediately after watching Story of Kunning Palace where Zhang Ling He’s character forcibly kisses the female lead in that as well. I hope he stops accepting roles where that happens, cuz I like him but I don’t like that trope.
Fangs of Fortune is my fav ❤
Smile Code 💛🙌
I normally watch mostly american or european shows, but this was the year of cdramas for me. I really liked a lot of them. My favorites were also As Beautiful As You, The Rise of Ning, Blossom, The Double, Are You The One, Blossoms in Adversity, The Princess Royal and Melody of Golden Age. I'm hoping 2025 will be just as good if not better though the only trailer that's caught my attention so far is Calming Waves.
Interesting jump! I love how I've seen the entire list except melody of golden age... This sounds like a sign to check it out
I also added the rest of your recs to my watchlist haha. I really hope you'll keep sharing your thoughts on cdramas. I loved the way you reviewed them; it made it easy to tell what could pique my interest.
Aww thank you 🥹 glad it was helpful
(1) Blossoms in Adversity (2) Rise of Ning (3) the Double
Blossom and Double ❤
Did not expect until just before it was revealed.
love that we have such similar thoughts!
I’m surprised journey to love didn’t make it on the list. Or fangs of fortune.😮
Tbh, I surely followed As Beutiful as You coz of the script though its synopsis was not that ctachy for me and sensible chemistry that the leads had.
The untamed is the first ever c-drama that i have watched... ❤❤ and now i am currently watching fangs of foutune
Its so good guys, i really recommend it... 😊
Hey Wendy! I recently discovered and then subscribed to your channel, and I will definitely catch up on your drama reviews. I enjoyed this particular one😊🇿🇲
Aww thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it !! Hopefully you'll enjoy some of my other videos as well :))
I really love Melody of golden age, The lengend of shen li
wht abt joy of life s2??😢
I was gonna say it's not my genre but I'm noticing the romance tag and thinking I might have to actually check it out 👀
The tale of Rose with Liu Yifei could have made this if you watched it.
So it’s so subjective.
double is my favorite 1000/10
The princess royal 🎉
🥳🥳
you should also watch meet yourself the ml was also the ml in will love in spring
You know surprisingly enough I started it and couldn't finish :(
I think the slow country side dramas don't appeal to me for some reason even though you would think I'd love it
There should be a drinking game with the word Basically 😂
GAH if you'd try it with um or like you'd get alcohol poisoning 💀💀
I find the dubbing in most cdramas hard to take..some of the actors do use their own voices..some are live recorded even..
for me finding a good cdrama is a once in a blue moon thingy lol..I wish there were more high budget dramas..and I don't like how long cdramas are T_T
that's so interesting! I honestly have had no issues with it, when it's noticeable it's just kinda funny but it doesn't affect my watching experience
I'm curious if there were any cdramas that you liked this year!
Love my girl lu si (hopefully she's doing better her poor thing😭) omg another blossom one I'll have to look into it
Blossom is a very good one ;story and plot ,but I feel like it is getting streched out too much.
That's how I felt about it as well, but it was good while it lasted!
nothing comes near the double this year actually it was just so good also there is blossom
Why TILL THE END OF THE MOON is not on the list? I think the series is great!❤
This is only the dramas I watched in 2024!
I tried a long time ago but unfortunately it didn't work
And then last year I came across Hidden Love, I loved it, however it was quite hard to find dramas that I could like like this one!
I would never want anyone to miss out on a great drama 🥰 we spread the joy here
Also I love how diverse the genre of dramas you've watches are haha
My favourite was shooting stars blossom and chasing the wind I despise the ml in blossom in adversity
in the original plot of the double novel she straight up reincarnates into a different person
yeahhh that makes sense, when i was editing that part I realized it's probably because censorship (which is also why they turn a lot of dramas into "dreams" to pass censorship)
story of a pearl girl?
Actually I didn't finish it! I mentioned it in my other cdrama video but i was watching it, it got sad and I put it on hold and heard the end was sad so ended up dropping it, I'm not a sad ending kind girl 🥲
Do you watch cdrama with subtitles?
Unfortunately yes 😔
One of my many 2025 goals is to get better at mandarin as I'm getting desperate to read Chinese novels and understand the nuances lost in translation 🥲
Most modern dramas I am able to understand 70-90% but career related vocab can take me out lol
@wendyminn glad I stumbled on your channel,i wanted a Chinese drama suggestion for English viewers...there aren't any...
I really liked the shady emperor in Blossom in Adversity.
LOL that's interesting I kinda forgot he existed
The Double is great
Facts
her fantastic adventures and love game in Eastern fantasy😊😊.
for me the issue with aasol is it is sooooo not real, like we are not used to this much of green flag that it was uncomfortable to watch it but i like it tho hahahah, this and lmlmv were too hard to believe
LOL I love how both of them have this super obsessed boy that I can't wrap my mind around bc obviously these men don't exist in rl
13:28......Oh thank you..
I knew I couldn't be the only one who was in the ML's corner from start to beginning
Even found the FL annoying sometimes!
YES! I was following it along like... What? Why do we hate him?
I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU
👀 wow thank you
@@wendyminn NO LIKE GIRL YOU JUST SAVED ME SO MUCH TIMEEE
Watched 130+cdramas
:O how long did it take you to watch 130+ ? I've been watching since 2015 and I'm only at 83 dramas
