I was also a 5 dotter by specs, and it did ride much better. But I just didn’t like the stance when parked so I went back to 3 and just lived with the discomfort lol.
So glad I found your video, I was looking up how to replace the suspension on my Sporty, now I won't have to, just need to find a more comfortable seat. Thx!
Dude, just check where the load was, it was at 3 dots, geez, I weight 220lbs so I set the dots at 10, no wonder those bumps were brutal. Thx again bro...
I got a used bike so I didn't get a manual but thanks to your video I will be able to adjust my suspension the way it should. Also thanks for the parts links, I want to get the Mustache Crashbar.
So if I have 3 dots showing with the spring extended does that mean a stiffer suspension? So the more squatted the spring, the more dots showing the softer it will be?
the more dots above the ring means stiffer and less means softer suspension. So as a heavier person, you want more dots so it only bounces at higher weight.
I do make videos about my riding gear- here is the most recent one about my armoured hoodie: ua-cam.com/video/OR7LwExSd58/v-deo.html There is another one for my rain jacket as well. I haven't done one for my pants yet but I think I might have to!
to lower the suspension? no, it doesn't change the height of the suspension unfortunately. It does help with the sag when you put your weight on it - so i guess if you drop the dots to zero, it would sag more but you would bottom out way more often
Adjusted the rears to my 200 lb ass and went from 3 dots to 5 and there's definitely a difference. Stock seat still doesn't help on rides 1hr+. I think also you can go longer if the roads are more technical but if you're just riding mostly upright it sucks sooner.
good eye! I did but the video was made during my early days and I didn't feel like I did the product any justice with its amateur review lol. But if you are curious, here is the link ua-cam.com/video/S0OTd8ZOU4A/v-deo.html
@@lanietesani4518 for the preload - your height won't play a factor and won't increase or decrease the original seat by any noticeable margin. What it is doing is just setting the potential load on to the bike by compressing or decompressing the springs.
@@lanietesani4518 for two-three dots no. if you changed it to 8-12 dots, you would see an increase - maybe 1 inch? but that will disappear as soon as there is weight on the bike. Which is why it is important for light riders like yourself doesn't have it set for someone that is 200lbs
Very informative. I bought my sportster used and I would feel every single bump in my spine. Come to find out I’m only on 2 dots and weigh 235lb. Let’s see how it will ride
Thanks for your time! Keep riding safe help me share the content! Let me know if you have changed your preload for your sporty :)

no problem! hope it all works out for you - I eventually upgraded to a progressive suspension 412 shocks

Hot tip!! Make sure you account for your weight with gear and cargo as well!
great point! many of us don't account for that extra weight
I'm just trying to figure out WHY you went straight to 6 dots? Are you saying that you plus your gear weigh 235 lbs?
that's about right (at the time of this video) - I used to carry a backpack full of stuff as well
I just got my 2021 48 I’m 190 5’9 how many dots would I have to be on to have a comfy ride and also with my wife she weighs in around 130
so if you weigh same as me then you would need to bring it to 5-6 dots. If you put your wife on, then i think 12-13
@@KSMotoCafe ok got it appreciate it 👍🏼
how many dots for 86 kg? , and how many points for two person??? 151 kg? thanks
2:05 has the chart - 86kg is about 6-8 dots and 151 is 12-13 dots
I have a 2021 iron 1200. I’m about 245 so what should my preload be at?
8-9 dots
I m 94kgs and passenger nearly 60kgs …… how many dots shud I put it to?
Do you have a video about gear? Looking for a good pair of Pants with armor, What are you using?

Check out Noble outfitters. They have some tough canvas pants that have knee pad inserts.
Do you not have to adjust your belt after adjusting shocks?
no...?
I just did it 18 months later of purchase lol
lol yeah man
So can this be a cheat to lower my suspension?

Great video, thank you. 🤘 Shiny side up.
Thanks - cheers!
Wow man! Great tip! You the man! I never got my physical manual. Thanks so much!

so for me, I am about 220 with gear and backpack. So I am riding with 6-7 dots
I just noticed your engine crash guard, which one do you have? Did you do a video review or installation on it? I just ordered one for my 883 as well.

I'm 5'4" 165 is it more dots for a smoother ride or less dots
more dots mean stiffer ride to compensate for the higher weight
@@KSMotoCafe Thanx bro
I'm going to adjust mine to 4 thanks
be sure to account for gear weight
What if you are in the line of 124-147 lb ..what preload dot that i used...pls help
then you would be in the 2-3 dots category.
I'm in 5'6 in heights and its not to high to reach the floor

Good vid. Informative. 🤙🏻
Thanks!
Dude this is awesome thanks!
thanks for watching!
Good video thanks
thanks - cheers!
So you raised it lowering the shock?
more like compressing the spring rather than raising the shock. Essentially allowing the shock to activate when there is more weight on it
@@KSMotoCafe Okay! I’m going to give it a try later.
@@joshriedy9616 let me know how it goes!
Helpful video
thank you!
Good video. Where did you buy the seat?
I got it off fb marketplace- stock roadster seat
Thank you so much❤

I would say it will ease the pain by 20-30%
