People Who Think BREXIT Never Really Happened Or It Was Not The Right BREXIT

  • In response to my previous video in which I explained yet again the Madness of #brexit I received a number of comments from those who supported and who still believe Brexit was a good idea. It was believed by many Brexit supporters that it would restore our #sovereignty and that we would 'Take Back Control' from the #eu in #brussels
    In fact we have lost sovereignty and are now subject to many EU rules over which we have no control or no influence.
    Sadly #keirstarmer and the #labourparty appear to want to follow those, such as these commenters, who will never acept that Brexit was a massive self-inflicted disaster

      It never ceases to amaze me how little the pro-EU faction know about how the EU actually operates. Some actually believe it to be democratic. Actually, they do have a point, the EU is democratic, only in the sense that the German Democratic Republic was democratic. No lesser person than Mikhail Gorbachev observed that.

    • @maartenaalsmeer
      @maartenaalsmeer Місяць тому +7

      @@sauermaischeyahoo7834 The EU is quite democratic though: the European Parliament is composed of MEPs who are directly elected by the EU citizens. Every five years elections are held in which EU citizens are able to elect MEPs to represent their views in the EU. A system of proportional representation is used to elect MEPs in all member states. As of the 2014 European Parliament elections the major political groups now nominate a lead candidate, or "Spitzenkandidat", for the President of the European Commission, who is then approved by the Parliament.
      Is it perfect? No. Democratic? Yes it is. At least (if not more) as democratic as a certain country still using the archaic FPTP system: the only European country that also still uses this system is Belarus and that should tell you something. The fact that there are 800+ unelected MEP's in the House of Lords (with most members life peers at that) doesn't scream 'democracy!' either. Britons (assuming you're one) lecturing others on democracy is always funny to me. Something about living in glass houses and throwing stones.

    • @sauermaischeyahoo7834
      @sauermaischeyahoo7834 Місяць тому

      The USSR's Supreme Soviet was elected, but no one would suggest that the USSR was democratic... (perhaps you would?).
      The elected assembly has to wield power for the system it's part of to be democratic. The EU "parliament" doesn't wield power, so the EU is not democratic.
      Heck, even Mikhail Gorbachev likened the EU system to that of the USSR (and he ought to have known).
      The UK system has a unfortunate non-democratic element, which is why we in the UK can recognise undemocratic structures when we see them.
      That's how we can see that the EU is even less democratic than is the UK.

    I am curious as to what has to happen to a person to become so oblivious to objective reality. Is it that they deliberately surround themselves with ignorance and propaganda, do they deliberately drown out the truth, do they submerge themselves with the idiocy of others they know that are just as stupid? The truth is bleedingly obvious to those with eyes and ears, unless you lock yourself away and only focus on only the opinion rags, also called "news" papers, and even then they only read the headlines. The hard of thinking are everywhere, but are they just ignorant or actually stupid? Can they be educated? Well, for many, no. For the 'Brexit never happened' fraction, i would like to repeat a short story i used during the referendum period...
    A department in a big company has had a vote if they were to have the next christmas party in the office (as in the last year) or go out for a meal in a restaurant. 16 from 31 voted to go out for dinner.
    After they had won, suddenly they started to fight if the group should go to an Indian or a Greek or an Italian restaurant - strangely nobody wanted something English and of course they demanded that the colleagues who had wanted to stay at the office had to support their own preference and called them traitors if they refused and did point out that they were not for the restaurant idea to begin with.....
    Beginning of December from the 16 'let's go out' one had died from a heart attack and two had found better jobs in other companies. On the morning of the 24th, they were still arguing...

    Michael as you probably know, but it sounds like some others don't appreciate. The EU's primary purpose was to keep peace in Europe. That was Churchills motivation, I wonder what he would have thought of us achieving his goal only for Britain to jump back out to become sovereign outside of the EU?
    For me there is a simple message "that you need to be in it to influence it", however we simply pulled up the draw bridge blamed all the wrong people for the effect of austerity and then withdrew back to little Britain.
    It seems there are many inward looking small minded people who cant see how the world is developing around us and how irrelevant Britain is today.
    USA & UK spent 20 years developing and exploiting the Chinese industry whilst destroying British industry and now we are on our own having lost the skills that were once abundant in Britain.
    You can probably count the number of large British business on one hand, most products made in Britain are for foreign owned businesses.
    What do we uniquely have that has to be uniquely bought from Britain?
    Please don't let all the negative comments get to you. Brexit was the biggest case of self harm that a country could do to its self...apathy and ignorance prevails unfortunately, one day our so called leaders will see the light and do what is right for the British people instead of leading us down a political black hole!

    I visited the U.K. prior to Brexit. When I asked what Brexit was about, I was told that E.U. farmers were dictating to the U.K. what it could grow and sell. That seemed a bit odd, so I enquired further. Apparently, British farmers have so many legal restrictions on where and how food may be grown and sold that there exists a severe economic disadvantage to everyone's ability to distribute and purchase goods. I suggested that the problem was not with the E.U. but with a 19th century understanding "scarce resources" and "competitive advantage". No, I was told. Brexit would keep the "foreigners" out of their country. Building a wall to keep "them" out makes as much sense: none.
