Incredibly STUPID Comments from Deluded Brexiteers

  • Brexit has been a disaster for the UK and yet there are still plenty of people who argue that it was the right thing to do despite all of the evidence showing that it has damaged the #ukeconomy as well as the UK's reputation in the world.
In this video I read out some of the #comments made to my last week's video in which I criticised #brexit . The comments are from people who still support Brexit and believe it was a good thing for the UK. Many claim that Brexit has not been completed and that we are still in the #.EU. Others claim that the EU is corrupt and determined to punish the UK for leaving.

I listened to all the negative comments about the EU. I’m an Irishman, I want to state my nationality so as to avoid confusion. I have come to the opinion that the majority of Brexiteers do not understand the meaning of the word sovereignty. In Ireland we are sovereign for slightly over one hundred years. We understand the meaning of the word because we were a subjected people. Subjected by a horrible ruthless colonial power that stopped at nothing to achieve its objectives. The EU is not organised or run in the same way.
It amazes me the amount of ignorance portrayed by British people when it comes to how the EU is run efficiently. I sometimes wonder if this intense hatred is merely based on hatred for everything European and it’s people.

That's the irony, of course, the victimhood narrative when the UK was rather known for removing soveriegnty from other countries.
I wonder how much is projection: the UK is a union where one country dictates to the others, so they assume the EU must be the same or they're afraid it will become that.
Or maybe they are upset EU countries won't act like countries in the Empire, and ainstead answer back and quote the rulles at them. Maybe their idea of "Soverignty" is "Other countries do what we tell them", so being treated as an equal feels like a loss of sovereignty.

It's not really about sovereignty, it's about what gives people the right to have sovereignty. What gives Britain the right to sovereignty is the same thing that gives it the right to colonise other countries, such as Ireland, and to deny them their own sovereignty. It also makes membership of the EU beneath Britain. Britain was the first country to industrialise, which enabled it to establish a lead and become the world's pre-eminent power. But it was inevitable that Britain would go into relative decline as other countries caught up. Or so the rational argument goes. For some, the reason Britain is no longer a global superpower is because it's being held back. There is a whole list of things holding it back, such as EU regulations, the civil service, the London liberal elite, Remainers and so on. Recently political leaders have moved to the top of the list. The same politicians who supported the cause because, among other things, they went to a boarding designed to prepare its pupils for the administration of the Empire. Sweet irony. Those vain people cannot never accept they were in over their heads, so the list keeps growing endlessly with stupid additions.

The Uk is not the great country it was once I'm sorry to say, I loved London but it's simply horrible now, overcrowded, super expensive, a few days ago I spent two hundred pounds to take my mother on a walk for two days. We didn't go to expensive restaurants, we bought coffes, some snack, drink and buses. rent is crazy high, incredibly polluted, noise everywhere, people are rude and selfish because no one has even 5 pounds to spend anymore and medical care doesn't exist. One of the biggest crisis I saw was in the decay of culture and theatre especially. Normal people cannot afford theatre anymore, and the quality of the shows has lower standards. I remember great theatre on Shakespeare and Opera which everyone could afford. All this is gone now, sorry to say. British people should start understanding that we came to the Uk before Brexit because it was a whealthy and interesting country to go. Now it's no anymore for me. By the way this feeling is not shared only by foreigners but my colleagues who are born here all agree that the situation is terrible. The one thing that makes me chuckle a lot, is when Scotland wants to do a referendum about leaving the UK, all those right winged Brexiteers (believing they're better than other people, but are still living in Victorian times) protest and say the Scots can't do that. . . . .

Sad sad sad .. most of these people have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. I used to live in the UK, for nearly 15 years actually, and I got my uni degree there too and I worked as a self-employed IT professional for over 7 years - before we left UK, and I must honestly say I and my wife too, we contributed to the UK economy a lot (I honestly think even more than some of these people making such ridiculous and stupid stupid comments and claims), we were part of the local community and never had any issue with "not fitting in" - we had British and other friends, we had lifes and we loved UK, and we felt more and more at home by every passing week, month and year, until that silly and utterly stupid Brexit came - then we started to see the polarised society and suddenly we started to feel less and less welcomed. I still love UK and I'm really sad its not my home anymore, but the other thing that breaks me is that my friends in the UK (British and non-british) now have to live with the consequences of Brexit despite them never wanting for it to actually happen, nevermind us and bringing us to finally decide to leave. And one very common knowledge, please forgive me if I sound politically incorrect or anything similar, is that for example central-Europeans (like myself) are widely known for many times being more hardworking and sometimes even nicer to be around than many British, especially those who only moan all day about this and that, but are too lazy to actually for example do any jobs at all to contribute to their own economy. Me, for example, not many people could ever claim I was stealing their jobs, because my job has for years been highly specialised and professional, and I had to be creating my own opportunities with my clients, proving over and over I was worth my clients` trust and money, yet I would on occassion listen to moaners talking about how I was stealing their jobs (that was them assuming I wasn't good enough for anything). The truth is, when I was studying for my IT degree in the UK, I was the only foreigner in the entire year, and at the end of the several years I studied I actually came on top of all of them with the best results in majority of the subjects we had. Sad sad sad. All I ever wanted, and my family, is to be treated with at least the same respect as anyone else living a proper life and contributing to the society and economy, not trying to enforce my way of living or thinking onto anyone. Just sad

It has long been argued by economists that the reason the U.S. has had such long term economic success is because it is a huge free trade zone. Unfortunately in the current day, a large group of people have been left behind by modern western economic success. I believe that’s what has given us MAGA and Brexit, as misguided as they are. A fissure has been exploited by politicians whose motivation has nothing to do with improving the lives of their adherents, and everything to do with gaining as much personal power as possible.

The EU is not a trade free zone. The British tax payer had to pay billions to the EU instead of the companies who made the profits paying a tariff.
The reason Brexit happened is because an idiot politician called John Major signed an agreement to change from a trade agreement to a political union.
Like the USA, the UK has common law. Most countries in the EU have civil law.
It is obvious that the EU and UK were not compatible which is why the UK wanted many exemptions.
This is not fair on the EU.
The pro-EU voters love gloating in places like this, wishing Brexit to fail in a hope that they can go back to their cosy deals before the vote.
      They are blind.
      It is over.
The UK can never go back to EU on the same deal it had, nor would it be fair to the EU to allow such a thing.

I'm from Italy-a beautiful country, but let's be honest, we've got our share of imperfections. Yet, despite our own issues, I'd never dare to pass judgment on England. For so many of us, England has long been a place we looked up to, almost mythical in its allure. Seeing what's been happening with Brexit truly gets to me. Watching Mr Farage in the European Parliament was a brutal sight. It felt like many in the UK were misinformed. It's such a shame because the UK had so much influence in the EU, contributing to some of its outstanding achievements, like bringing peace to Ireland and fostering open trade. And let's not forget the UK's unique position-access to both the Commonwealth and European markets. Such a massive advantage! But now, the missed opportunities weigh heavy. Brits have lost that easy freedom to move across Europe. Students can't easily tap into learning experiences in different countries. And the promises? They seem broken.
Fishermen feel abandoned, and numerous small businesses face hardships and jobs? They're scarce. And the strain on the health system is palpable. From the outside, it's like witnessing a scene from a George Orwell novel. Makes one wonder, who benefits from Brexit? It feels like only a select few are, while many are left grappling. Sure, Europe's not without its flaws. But with the UK actively participating, it could have been even better. Here's to hoping the UK finds its way forward. Yet, here I stand, an Italian, venturing forth into this dialogue perhaps unbidden. Forgive my presumption, for, in the immortal words of Shakespeare, "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." I remain steadfast in my belief that open-hearted discourse transcends borders and bloodlines.

One of the most bizarre things I hear from Brexiters is how they justify Brexit on the grounds that the Eurozone is in a recession and that the UK is not and that the difference is solely down to leaving the EU. Now this is pretty thin claim at best - the Eurozone is JUST in a recession and the UK is barely not, but this is not my point here.
First they'll justify Brexit by saying that the troubles of the Eurozone are entirely down to EU incompetency - and NOTHING TO do with being next door to a war zone, has had the Russian gas supply cut off, has taken in MILLIONS of refugees and is being threatened with nuclear annihilation.
And then the problems faced by the UK ARE ENTIRELY down to the Ukraine situation, the reduced gas supply and the refugees crossing the channel and that it's not the fault of Brexit at all.
All this DESPITE being thousands of miles away from Ukraine, being energy independent (North Sea gas) and having taken in a TINY number of refugees from Ukraine.
    The hypocrisy is stunning.
If it makes Brexit look bad then it's the fault of the Ukraine situation and Brexit cannot be held to blame ...
But if it makes the EU look bad (and by extension it makes Brexit look good) then it has nothing to do with the Ukraine situation and its ENTIRELY down to Brexit.

  • @ruudkraus

The whole Brexit idea has nothing to do with political thought, but purely based on emotions. The Brexit minded people are still stuck with "an island syndrome" from the glory days when England was still a "real" island. Not really, of course. England, like most of the rest, has not been self-sufficient in ages. Only difference is that communication used to come mainly from England and that has shifted to 'Brussels' in the Europe group.
Now that England has been ripped off from the rest, it falls back to the days before the Europe association.
Think of Europe as a 'cooperative society' that has been contracting for and with its members for years now with members and non-members.
England as a member gets out of it, in one fell swoop of course they also got out of those made contracts. The big difference; in the beginning England joined a small Europe group that was growing. Now England has got out and stands alone next to a very large group. What were the Brexitiers thinking, we get out of a very large group and we are Great Britain again?

There never has been (in any way, shape or form) any kind of plan for Brexit that could objectively be considered to be legitimate, rational, economically viable and logistically implementable that would not only impoverish the majority of UK citizens (while bankrupting many UK businesses) but also erode and remove many of the democratic rights & freedoms gained from Magna Carta (Runnymede, 15 June 1215) to 23rd June 2016.

Dear Michael, perhaps I can help out here, by explaining what I think the Brexiteers mean when they claim that Brexit hasn't happened yet.
They mean the UK has not yet binned all EU legislation, "Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Act 2023" thereby removing law protecting safety at work, protection of the environment, basically undoing years of legislation largely beneficial to the UK and that the UK agreed to and helped put into place.
They mean the UK has not yet "deregulated" from EU norms and standards, thereby lowering the attractiveness of British goods and services to create an unregulated "Singapore" style black market economy.
They mean there is still no hard customs border between ROI and NI since Brexit will not be done until NI is out of the European Single Market and Customs Union, and so return to the days of the "troubles", violence and quasi war in Ireland.
They mean the UK has not seized the opportunities of the freedom to negotiate trade deals with countries around the world that would substantially improve upon the global trade arrangements we already had. As if the countries of the world are begging us to let us trade with them to their detriment. ("Us" means the British People).
They mean that the customs controls of goods arriving in the UK from the EU has not happened yet. A measure that Mogg said would be a measure of self-harm.
They mean that the UK has not yet taken advantage of its new freedom to stop all those nasty foreigners and immigrants and especially those nasty EU citizens from entering the country.
Only then will Brexit be fully complete, and the British people enter into Johnson's promised "Sunlit Uplands" with J.R.Mogg's "cheaper food, clothing and footwear". Since Farage has stated of the EU that "They need us more than we need them", The EU will be clamouring and begging us to come back to EU membership, but we will be firm and resolute, and proudly enjoy our Splendid Isolation.
(Of course, I am, myself, a Remainer as you can see from my sarcasm)

@@seang2700 No really, I think it is a big part of why very rich people pushed for it which lead to the media supporting brexit on the right.
As for anti-EU sentiments, yes, they have always been there for various reasons; what changed is what the ultra-rich really wanted.
Anti-EU sentiments are there partly because of nationalism, xenophobia and because EU has been a very convenient scapegoat for politicians for a very long time whenever they implemented unpopular measures.
As for left wing brexiteers, it's short sighted and usually articulates around Bolkenstein, lobbying, protective rules not doing enough.
Bolkenstein makes some sense, the rest doesn't really.
Yes, there is a LOT of lobbying and some rules are very heavily impacted by it but EU rules in matter of protecting workers and environment and consumers are minimal rules: countries are free to do more. And, of course, a country really no longer follows EU regulations, Lobbying will intensify in that country. Lobbyists go where they need to go: if XX was to decide how our industry work and how workers are protected, they would lobby XX.

Great video Michael, of course the sadness of Brexit continues. The people who have made the contributions you have highlighted really need a new word, to describe their loss of independent thought. Brexieterees perhaps? The Brexiteers, the known architects and those less well known, were admittedly smart. They started laying their poison decades ago, and now here we are. The destroying and misleading of these rather sad, indeed pathetic, individuals, who crow on fuelled by the hatred and ignorance sown in their hearts: that is a genuine loss alongside all others, that is the reality of Brexit. For all of the reasons, the Brexiteers need to be indicted on charges of treason. They all knew what they were doing and they knew the full consequences. Wholesale destruction and impoverishment of the United Kingdom. If that doesn't fit the definition of treason, then there can be no definition of the word treason. As for the Brexiterees, I fear it may be too late. We also need a truth and reconciliation committee, so the full horror of the Brexit shit show can be aired. Truth is however, you can't argue with stupid, and for deluded stupid, there truly is no hope.

So when British people feel the EU has dictated their laws, blame your own government who has approved them. And besides that, the people who write those laws are elected in every member country and therefor also by people from the UK.
