Canada's problem for quite a bit is that we don't see the game through. We dominate for the first 15-20min, then collapse all the way afterwards. We need to learn to see these games through.

They gotta respect possession more. It's one thing to give the ball away against the lesser quality sides in CONCACAF, without being punished, but these Top 20 sides will bury you. Frustrating to see them work so hard to get the ball back, only to easily give it away.

    3 things to improve on:
    1. Better quick decision making, especially in front of goal.

The first half looked good. But one of the first steps to change is to stop celebrating or accepting losses. I understand the level of Netherlands compared to Canada, but the mindset needs to change for the organization to truly change.
No more soft mindset for the teams leadership. Giants like Netherlands and Argentina play to crush their opponent. And that's it.

Agreed. I hope that the CSA is working hard to line up more top 20 friendlies for the next 2 years. Every international window should aim for 2-3 friendlies against top 20/30 teams.

Really appreciate how open he is and what he said made sense. Watched the game and we we’re competitive for a good portion of the game but realistically against an opponent of that caliber that’s well oiled and know how to play tgt, it was always going to be hard. I agree that a 4-0 is a bit harsh if we had more quality up front it would have been closer!

    • @JeanClaudeCOCO

Canada over worked themselves and them collapsed once the Dutch found a way. Can’t run all game with subs who aren’t up to par once the starters are worn out. Netherlands wasn’t even in full gear.

They are easily read. They attack on sides and cross. They do shit in the front middle and don't take shots. I rather see mandatory 5-8 mid-range shots per game. Their tactic upfront is to walk through the defenders and tap a goal, not gonna happen with these teams.

I don't want to be negative. I do believe it's just a friendly match and the opponent is good etc. Though I'm not a big fan of his opinion regarding 4-0 not being indicative of the match. If we're honest, it could have and should have been way worse. So maybe just don't say that and accept that we were lucky to not have lost by more, and will work to fix the mistakes that led to that.

For a first game I'm hopeful! They gave a good account of what his system can do with the press, it's gonna take time! But the foundation is being set.
You could see the players were thinking through the new system as opposed to reacting!
    Example:
When pressing the second man in picks up the passing lane. In many of those moments after about the 25 minute mark they were a step behind.
It's also hard to have your first game against a top 10!

Marsch makes some fair points. The group have been together for just a few days. They were playing the 6th ranked team in the world. I think this team will improve with Marsch
The issue was that they didn’t respond well to adversity. When they gave up that first goal it was like they gave up. I did like that they had a few solid opportunities to score but Larin and David are not world class.

They looked more organized defensively for most of the first half then reverted to their old selves. This is what worries me about Jesse Marsch - the pressing of world class teams has to be done in such a controlled way. Canada is not good enough to press and then still be solid defensively. Holland should have won this game like 6 - 0 or more.
