OMRTS is such an underrated album, lots of great stuff there.
You are right with every album is different (which is great for me), but they all sound like Mastodon. Next Emperor of Sand?

@@highfeller If you are done with Emperor of Sand, maybe check out the Making of from that album. It is on UA-cam too and a great insight on the 4 Members and the album itself.
I don't know if you'll see this HF, but Ben Eller has a video called "Stuff Mastodon Does" and he teaches how they do those harmonies on the guitars, as well as their tunings.
Emperor of sand would be a great record to do next from them. The song “roots remain” on there is one of their best ever and the whole album is quality.

Brann started laying back on drums because he knew he would be singing more on the albums after Crack the Skye.
I like this album but I never bought another Mastodon album after this one. I couldn't take Brann on every song. I like when it's just Troy or Brent singing. Brann really changed the sound of the band.
At this point, you have to do with both Emperor of Sand and Hushed & Grim. I cant define mastodon style, its unique.
Diamond in the witch house is worth the wait my guy. Enjoy and cheers 🍻
I really appreciated this track when i watched the Live in the K! Pit gig with Scott Kelly. The vibe hits just different there
Such a good song, the performance of it with Scott Kelly for the kpit show is fuckin godly, it was so great to see a pro shot performance of that song with Scott too

@@highfeller thats a sick show. They have 7 songs that feature Scott kelly from neurosis in their catalog. He joined them to perform those songs on their 2019 tour. I go back to that show often. Brent’s vocals on aqua dementia are nasty

Definitely top 3 mastodon albums for me personally, that imo is very underrated.
A cool album. Still less desirable in comparison, but They put their expectations up in the Sky
@Riffs, Beards & Gear Fluff called Ember City early when I was stuck on Chimes. He was right
I've listend to these albums at least a dozen times, but every time I watch your reaction it feels like I'm discovering them for the first time again. But just as a warning: From the 4 "new era" albums I think Once more round the sun is the best by a decent margin. Does not mean you can enjoy them more than me, but dont have like SUPER high expectations.
I beg to differ. While I believe OMRTS is a great album that's usually underrated by the fanbase, I wouldn't say it's the best of the "new era" by that margin. EOS is freaking incredible and HAG is their best effort since CTS (and already ranks just below CTS in my overall list). The Hunter is pretty good on its own too. I say: keep your spectations high! They're all different, but they're all Mastodon.

It is impossible for me to pick a favorite album from them. Some days Leviathan, some days CTS. But no matter what they do, whether it's super heavy sludge, or prog, or just catchy and melodic the musicianship is always going to be top notch
Respect to Leviathan at the end 😅. If you like Mastodon, you gotta try Rivers of Nihil some day. They have 4 albums out. 3rd is best, but honestly I do not care where you start

Yes, love Rivers of Nihil. Owls is my favorite. But the Work is also a masterpiece in its own different way

@@highfeller yeah there both out of georgia and formed around the same time id start with the red album there first debut and work your way up
Brann toned down his drumming because he sings lead vocals a lot, the first 3 albums which have his craziest drums on them he didn’t sing so he could just go ham the whole time. Still a lot of sick drums in their stuff just mainly on songs where he doesn’t sing a ton.

@@highfeller ya Brann is just great, 2nd favorite musician of all time for me behind only Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains. Anyway highly highly recommend reacting to their song “roots remain”, one of their best songs ever and it features great Brann vocals but also has phenomenal drums, also absolutely killer riffs and one of Brent’s best solos ever.
