I'm still kinda surprised Mastodon hasn't really broken out and had a super huge more mainstream outing. You know, like Metallica's Black album sorta thing. Yes they're big amongst us metalheads, but they seem to be just that little bit too heavy for the general public, their loss our secret!! Such phenomenal song writing and musicianship and incredible live!
To get mainstream, you must go after it. I don't think they want that kind of attention... At least not at first glance.

Brent chicken pickin' too. Capalarian Crest would not be the bad as song it is without that sweet solo.
Bill needs to sing more often but he doesn't want. He just likes playing guitar. He has a guttural texture to his voice. That's his you hear in the background.

This is why mastodon is my favourite band. Their studio stuff is some of the best ever, but the pure power of seeing them live is what makes them great for me.
I don't understand how people can say Mastodon has poor stage presence live. Like sure, they may not say much between songs, but when Troy is belting out vocals the way he is at 2:30 I don't see how it's possible to not go fucking insane in that pit.

When i saw them on the tallica/slayer tour they were greatly underwhelming. Both in sound, energy and performance. Theyre the band i enjoy the most on record of all the performances, but by far outshined in concert

What's so special about changing guitars within seconds? Stagehand is right next to him between songs, Brent hands him the guitar he's playing and is given the next one right to play, then the tech hits the button to switch from the first guitar's wireless system to the other's, takes 5 seconds. It's just not on camera.

Love Mastodon, and this song. Saw last year and was amazing, and openers where crazy. Went with two friends that told me were making some songs..I thought it was something just to have fun, but a few days ago they shown me their first four songs and I freaked out. Couldn't believe they were the same . They are called Red Can and you should check them. They have that thing.
Thank evolution that after all these years of metal crap there finally is a band like Mastodon again ...
