This should be called Aftermarket STI Wing, because the OEM has more drill slots for stability reasons. I've watched the 2 drill points per sides rip right off cars.
I'm no expert but I would guess it's critical to get a good continuous sponge gasket connection. When cutting the end of the sponge strip for the base pieces, any gap leftover might need to be filled with some sort of adhesive to avoid moisture accumulation within the bases. Again, I'm not sure if this is an issue in the first place, just speculation.
of the countless STI wings we installed on WRXs we haven't had an issue with water installing in the method of which we do, it's not a bad idea though for added insurance and piece of mind
Why did you not use the second layer of trunk for added stability? To just mount to the top layer seems not stable enough noticing the bounce in the spoiler as you closed the trunk.
Awesome video and thanks... So does the wing apply lots of weight on the trunk? Because I accidentally slipped my hand when I opened it few days ago, I slipped when I opened half way through and it just jumped all the way back.. did I damage the rubber or plastic ring that stop the trunk underneath the 2 arms that hold the trunks? I was so worried that the wing hit the car or window... But very good video and good work .. Thanks
Thanks for the insight! I’m picking up, and putting on mine tomorrow. I was wondering if it comes with the hardware for 12 holes like the stock STI trunk\wing. It looks like 4 holes?! I’m curious of the stability?!
at this point we've done some "amazon" brand wings and Subaru oem. The amazon units did include aftermarket hardware but the OEM unit included a template so you didnt need to make one
Does the oem come witha all of the hardware necessary for completion? And is this a good enough version ? I hear mixed reviews if this is identical and strong enough
Could anyone of you who has this spoiler measure the dimensions of the pillar base? I mean the dimension of the pillar base at the distance between the window and the edge of the trunk lid? Thank You in advance
Nice job! I see that subaru recommends Torsion bars for stability? It appears the STI comes with them standard. Did you install these and if not how come?
we did not install them as the parts were not provided by the customer for install. we can do a video on torsion bar installation. let us know if youre interested
Toyota used to sell the Carbon fiber ones for the FR-S my buddy got his with his car and it’s OEM. I can tell you they do fit however it might be heavy on the trunk
I just got one as well. Dealership can get you one and then color match it for you when it arrives but the guys I talked to say they’re not super stable and it’s better to swap trunks with a Sti that comes with spoiler. Let me know what you come up with. I really want that spoiler.
Im interested in doing this to my 2019 STI... so do I need to order the grommets, flange nuts, sealer, gasket, etc... or does the spoiler come with a kit??

This isn't a Subaru OEM Spoiler. Its Aftermarket. They got it from a Subaru dealer it looks like, however I literally have an STI wing sitting next to me. They come pre built and unpainted, also they have more connector pieces than 4 drilling points.
Shitty according to subaru dealership thay say it does not come with template on account the trunk has Indented markers. The paper template is the one sought after.

Where did you get the templates

Yeah, the OEM STI wing has 3 bolts and 3 retainer clips per side.

Is there a way of taking the small spoiler off after putting the wing on?
Update:
Seen it done in a different video and it involves plugging drill holes.
