Anthony Esposito My list is: Freddie Mercury, Bruce Dickinson, Robert Plant, early James Hetfield, Axl Rose, and just to annoy everyone, Justin Beiber.
Im 13, and I know a lot of the history of metal. And Iron Maiden in my opinion are the best metal band ever, along side Sabbath and Preist. Long live Iron maiden!
Best metal band in the world. I was a fan when Di'Anno was there after buying Iron Maiden and Killers but first seen them live in ST. Davids hall Cardiff with Dickinson and Nicko replacing Di'Anno and Clive Burr (RIP) on the 1983 Piece Of Mind tour, outstanding gig. Haven't seen them as many times as some of you 'Irons' (10 times), my favourite live gig was in late 2006, again in Cardiff, A Matter Of Life And Death. An absolute brilliant show and superb album to go with it...
I grew up on Maiden..One of the BEST BANDS to date! Kids now a days (granted I'm only 20..) grow up on music that takes no skill, no members leaving or joining, just other terrible artists being "Featured"...Saw Maiden back in 2012, BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE EVER! if you get the chance FUCKING GO! you won't regret it..you'll only ever want more!
I also totally agree, I'm 30, I've been listening to Maiden for 20 years or more, my favorite song's been Hallowed be thy name since then lol. Saw them live 7 times and I'd go again anytime. I also grew up on them and I finally got 7th son's Eddie tattooed on my arm, UP THE IRONS !! Best band ever
Whilst for the most part I agree with you, mainstream music nowadays does not take no skill. I don't like a lot of it, but that doesn't mean that it takes no skill or talent
Rhyme of the ancient mariner isn't the longest song anymore, it's Empire of the Clouds from the most recent album The Book of Souls. It's 18 minuets long
I grew with Maiden albums all over the house. When I was 14 (1996) I got my first CD player and when asked what i wanted on it I bought "Best of the Beast" - been a fan ever since. Up the Irons!
i love this band. Its hard enough to pick a fave song let alone and album but if i had to fave song would be Caught Somewhere in time and album would have to be Piece of Mind or Number of the beast. Damn it i can't choose. I'll say both
Agree mate. Blaze was actually excellent in the studio. He suffered to sing Bruce’s songs live and it was a strain. Probably a main reason he got the hook was he could not keep up with Maiden live. His contributions on xfact and virtual were excellent and I appreciate their value
The timeline is fine, but you never touched on WHY! What made them great - from the iconic howl of Bruce to the absolute grinding riffs on every.....single.....track featuring duel guitars, pounding bass lines by Steve and Nico's hypnotic drums drawing it all together! Live is as good as (and most times better than) the studio sound. Just undisputed awesome!
Pretty much. Heavy metal does take the bass to a new level. I'm not a metal bassist but I've given it thought I mostly do Blues, Blues Rock, Rock N' Roll and Homeland Rock
Berneer They did mention him briefly, but failed to mention his strength with The Force, his prowess with a Lightsaber, his cameo in "Flight Of Icarus", his co writing of the "New Frontier", his religion, or his hit and run incident. (they also mispronounced his name so they made him sound like the chick from Velvet Underground) In my opinion, he is the only known living drummer that could actually give Grandmaster skin basher Neil Peart a run for his percussive money. UP THE IRONS FROM DEGOBAH
I think Iron Maiden now is better than ever: Voice: Mr. Bruce Dickinson (Well, they are all Mr.) Bass: Steve Harris Guitar: Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Janick Gers Drums: Niko McBrain My favourite songs are: 1- Run to the hills 2- Fear of the dark 3- Afraid to shoot strangers 4- Rime of an ancient Mariner 5- Number of the beast 6- Aces High 7- Seventh son of a Seventh son 8- Alexander the great 9- Can I play with madness 10- Stratego 11- The trooper 12- Where eagles dare My favourite albums 1- Number of the beast 2- Piece of mind 3- Fear of the dark 4- Powerslave 5- Seventh son of a seventh son 6- Somewhere in time 7- Senjutsu Best band ever!!
Now the empire of the clouds from the book of souls album is their longest but only just hitting that 18-minute mark Anyway, iron maiden is the best band of all time, no doubting it
I found iron maiden by playing: ssx on tour on my playstation the number i listened to was:"run to the hills" it still remains my favorite to this tell me how you found iron maiden it could be interesting to find out if theres anybody else that found iron maiden the same way as i did
Ah, Jeff Keith. Tesla is one of my all time favorites! I just wasn't thinking of them in this category. Good call. I can never include Axl, because I can't stand him. They were definately groundbreaking though. Geoff Tate is so underrated in my opinion.
More "History of" videos would be awesome, especially for Metal Bands. I'd like something a little less obvious though. No hate against some of the suggestions below (I love's me some Megadeth and Pantera) but those tales have been spun to death over the years and you'll have people beating that horse for some years to come. Any band lesser known band/artist would be welcomed :)
The Wicker Man...Maiden's last great 'ear candy' song that was a throw back to the old days. Now everything is a quasi-melodic 6 minute epic song. Ugh. Bring back the good ol days 'Murders in the Rue Morgue', 'Killers' 'Run to the Hills' and 'Aces High'.
@ Robert Rusch The above ones you mentioned are melodic (Speed of Light less so) but they still lack the gritty punch of the ones I mentioned. I don't know how to explain it.
"The Final Frontier"? Look up the Cover of "Jorn". You can feel literally the power! Beside that I love "A Matter of Life and Death", which is the best album after their reunion imo.
As a Bass player, I definitely agree with ya on that list would be 10. Steve Dawson or Nibbs Carter (Saxon) 09. Jason Newsted (Metallica) 08. James LoMenzo (White Lion, Slash's Snakepit, BLS, Megadeth) 07. David Ellefson (Megaeth) 06. Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) 05. Dana Strum (VVI, Slaughter) 04. Geezer Butler (Sabbath) 03. Bob Daisley (Sabbath, Purple) 02. Rudy Sarzo (Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, Ozzy, Yngwie, Dio, B.O.C.) *001* Cliff Burton (Metallica)
You obviously are not old enough to remember that that is actually true. They obviously don't sound like metal by today's standards, but they are definitely one of the bands that started the NWOBHM, which started in the late 70's when Iron Maiden and Def Leppard were both formed. And if you think Judas Priest should have been mentioned instead, you're sadly mistaken because they were already around long before that.
Rime of the ancient mariner isn't their longest song anymore. The brand new double album book of souls has a song called empire of the clouds that's 18 minutes long.
ZEPPELIN!!!!!!!!!!! I read "Hammer of the Gods" and these guys where insane. Check out the section on creme filled donuts and tub of baked beans, also the red snapper in her red snapper they were awesomely insane.
Venom is the Black Metal music period. The dirty sound, the satanic lyrics, the image...and they call themselves BLACK METAL before no one in the fucking planet play what after became the black metal scene. So this is the true. VENOM IS THE REAL THE UNIQUE THE TRUE BLACK METAL BAND. And Iron Maiden is the more popular NWOBHM band in the world that real help to spread the metal music to all the land. Before all this, Black Sabbath gives de first step to real deep heavy music (with some liltle help of Deep Purple and Led Zeplin and many other 70´s heavy rock bands around the world, like Uriah Heep, UFO, AC/DC, Alice Cooper etc etc...) and than it was Judas Priest that take it to another level, and gives birth to the real "traditional" Heavy Metal that inspired many of the NWOBHM bands, than after Priest came Motorhead that gives a lilte help on more dirty sound with the real rock n rol atitude and lilte punk influence, that inspired many bands after them...like Venom (that is a mix of judas priest and motorhead influencies) and with the scream of the NWOBHM came the rest, thrash..speed, power, death..etc etc untill today...this is the simple true history of metal music....sorry for my english...but i think any one can uderstand the message. cheers from Portugal!
It is sad I still do not have an Iron Maiden CD in my collection so I need to change that! Any suggestions besides Number of the Beast, Powerslave, and Piece of Mind?

The best video you ever made
The most professional , creatively , historical , mystical , theatrical , entertaining , better live than studio , band ever walked at earth
Chill. Their legacy is pretty weak, most under 40s don't know who Iron Maiden are. But everyone knows Queen, etc. No offence. ☮
You guys should do the Offsprings
Simplesmente a maior e melhor banda de heavy metal do universo....
Is it just me or did they neglect to mention the arrival of drummer Jedi master Nicko?
Berneer they did mention Nicko's arrival early on in the video.
Berneer They did, at about 2:30, but pronounced it "Neeko" instead of "Nick-o".
Berneer They did mention him briefly, but failed to mention his strength with The Force, his prowess with a Lightsaber, his cameo in "Flight Of Icarus", his co writing of the "New Frontier", his religion, or his hit and run incident.
