Metallica is known for being one of the founding fathers of thrash metal music. They gained attention thanks to their performing skills and soon after began attaining critical recognition for their albums and technical ability. Despite tragedy and line-up changes, the band found mainstream success in the early 1990's. Controversy and internal problems did not stop them from churning out number one albums thereafter. In this www.WatchMojo.com video, we take a look at the history of Metallica.
7 minutes is not enough for history of Metallica.
Matija Ravnik There are songs by them that are longer 😂

Well... I would also put (forgetting Death Magnetic)
@@benmidgley1419 tf did I miss something? They cover death magnetic at the end, but if you're actually talking about hardwired then this video came out 5 years prior to dropping the album

Probably get crap from many Metallica fans but I think One is there best song...that solo kills it.
You'll get more crap if you say that St. Anger is their best song xD
Nah I agree man ^-^
One is actually my favorite song from them.
Raúl Pérez Yes! Creeping Death is AMAZING. Top 5
Great song :). My favorite is Orion and I think I'll get more crap from Metallica fans.
We miss you Cliff, few bands will ever be as big as Metallica
So basically every time Metallica tries something new they get shit on

For me all metallica albums are good.Even black album, load, reaload and st anger got some good songs from thrash metal to country music. EXCEPT FUKING LULU!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!
I wish there was a way to disassociate metallica's name from lulu. it was terrible
Akash Singh There is, just call it a Lou Reed album with a hired band to play for him

Megadeth & Iron Maiden is better...
Mursheed Kamil Rashid
Megadeth is not better, they play more complex riffs but the singing and songwriting is terrible.
Hmmm...
Megadeth? Jethro Tull?? Iron Maiden??? Black Sabbath???? Pink Floyd????? Queen?????? Led Zeppelin??????? Rolling Stones???????? The Beatles?????????
P Jn
They have few good songs like Symphony, Holy Wars, A Tout le monde, five magics, sweating bullets but nothing really impressive like Metallica'a stuff imo
No monkeys In our society You only listened to the mainstream songs... how am I supposed to argue with you?
And Metallicas songwriting is mediocre compared to Megadeths. Songs like Harvester Of Sorrow, Enter Sandman, almost the entire DM album, most songs from both Load and Reload and the whole St. Anger album had the shittiest lyrics I ever heard. Most dont make sense and the other are just poorly written lyrics that sound deep but dont really go anywhere.
Kill em all : good enough
Ride the lightning : classic great
Master of puppets : stuff of legend
And Justice for all : kind of stuff of legends
Black : mainstream but great
Load : flop
Reload :flop(kind of )
St.anger: world class flop
Death magnetic: great
Hardwired to self destruct: kick ass
Agreed on everything except kill em all. That album is insanely good.
Reload was a really good album
I personally think load is good
@@RandomPerson-ui3xv I agree
@@RandomPerson-ui3xv both load & reload r good. may not be heavy but groovy.
Does anybody else think it's odd that Damage Inc. never seems to come up in these videos despite it being one of their fastest tracks, with a clear message and one of the fastest guitar solos in heavy metal (the one near the 3:50 mark)
That is a great song but on that album every song is great so I guess it just gets lost. If your going to pick the best track from MOP then Master of Puppets is the song to pick. So on a video or list like this trying to cover a wide range that song will get passed up. But man that song is great.
It’s a very underated song isn’t it
Deadmanjacobs I listen to whiskey in the jar pretty much every day

@@meganveite5678 yeah for sure they are
For me, they are an absolute requirement. Have to have my daily dose, makes me feel normal. An energetic content if you will. There may be better out there, but none of them have done what MetallicA has done for me. Almost every song, on every album I have Love for.
But...
...I CANNOT get with LuLu in any way, shape, or form. It's a Bastardized Fuckshow to say the least.
Although more recently have I been able to understand things on Load and Reload which makes me disacknowledge what anyone else's opinion may be. Not that I cared anyway, just have seen so much hatred/jealousy from everyone and anyone who shits on them any chance they get. Maybe they could mature a bit and not be so whiny and snobby because they weren't so fortunate like MetallicA. Maybe it's a little over the top, but whatever. That's my point of view.
METAL UP YOUR ASS! \,,/

Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning best of all. hands down.

@@baseball4life380 Absolutely! I also love Fuel - I have that as my ringtone !
Do any updated version with Hardwired to Self Destruct
Dear to my heart band , Sabbath paved the way then Metallica built a fork in the road that has split into many great styles of metal .. Their early stuff along with Dave , Tom , Chuck Billy and other family has given us today's metal the best music in the world ! from Revocation to Meshuggah these are great times
rob hambrick there best stuff was their early music.... and im talking kill em all.....i agree on the sabbath...but there was another metal band everone seems to forget that stayed 100 % true to metal...... and blow Metallica away as far as im concerned.....the mighty Slayer
I wish you'd make a redux. For instance, they recently was awarded the Polar Music Prize, in front of the Swedish Royal family. A prize that's very difficult to achieve, because it's about extraordinary accomplishment in music, as a whole. And their latest album "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct" would be nice to mention and how much bigger they are now and so on. Amazing video, none the less.
they sugar coated the shit out of load, reload and st anger... and as far as I'm concerned, lulu was a joke
Lulu was a joke because of Reed. If you listen the words are just crazy. Some of the riffs are still ok. Reed had allready written the songs before Metallica came in so they didnt have much to work with.
Yea I’m not a fan of that record, yet a small following of people including Bowie have claimed it to be an underrated masterpiece. Go figure.
My favorite Metallica albums are Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...and Justice for All and their self-titled Black album.
Dude that's literally just all there good albums have some groove REload Load
Holy shit. At 5:21 I just saw James playing a fucking 7 string. Not really something I expected
Of Course. It is St. Snare
DJames Hetfield
6:21 "technically complex guitar solo" and shows Kirk tremolo picking random notes on the high E string. -_-
Woah watch out, we got the guitar expert here

No it’s not random, i believe it’s a descent through the a minor scale (or e, not sure). I’m not sure though might check later
Guitarist Dave Mustaine reminded me of drummer Bill Bruford from Yes cause in the photo where you mentioned the original member's names in the video, he looked like Bruford in 1971
Metallica’s cool man. I grew up with them and I’d like that they are still rocking after 30+ years.

they need to write a song for cliff Burton
To Live Is To Die (even though cliff is actually in it) is regarded as a tribute song
Metallica Head cliff is not on that song
Y4vuz12 he says : When a man lies he murders some part of the world, these are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives, all this I can't bear to witness any longer, cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home
To Live is To Die??
Metallica Head James says that. Cliff wrote it
Personally, i think megadeth has metallica beat in solos. Saying that, metallica has much much better melodies and lyrics in my opinion.
Kirk is not the best guitar player when it comes to solos but he will come up with a great one every now and again like MOP and One. I really like Megadeth but think they would be even better if Mustain just did the lead guitars and got a front man to sing I dont like his voice. That being said after hearing the songs for so long dont think I could imagine them any other way.
corey burke Yeah, but I like Mustaine's vocals on Sudden Death
I can agree with that. I do not like the sound of megadeath’s vocal very much
I am so excited for their new album coming out in November, Hardwired... To Self-Destruct, it's been way too long since their last good release (2008's Death Magnetic), and their new single (title track Hardwired) reminds me a lot of their earlier albums like Master of Puppets and even a little of Kill 'Em All
Andrew Pappas I'm sorry their new album was a disappointment.
Vercilies Darkblade I can get if some people weren't big fans of it, but at least it didn't suck as like _St. Anger_ or their Lou Reed collab _Lulu_
I actually enjoyed the newest album. I also enjoyed St. Anger a bit - but not much of a fan of Lulu. that's just me.
ImAMechanicalAnimal St. Anger was alright, kind of sad about the no solo bit honestly. And I'm with you, Lulu pretty much sucked major ass. It was like they were just getting a bit desperate by this point. But yeah, Hardwired was awesome and if they ever come to my hometown (Toronto) I'd love to see them
Andrew Pappas I think that "Moth Into Flames" should've been the number one single of the album. That song kicked ass! St. Anger is forever my favorite album, only because I believe the message behind it and how it was a "misunderstood album". Obvious to say, it won't beat the classics at least.
wait so robert didnt play bass on the st anger album, but he joined when the video was made?
Yes.
Elijah Lusk Pretty much
Thanks, Bob Rock - You shithead
I love “And Justice For All” “Metallica (Black Album)” and al albums but currently I’m addicted to “Load” if you ask me what my favorite album is my answer is, it depends on the day.
Well described Watch Mojo! but "Fuel" was much more successful track than "The Memory Remains".
They might have come out in 1980's but they still rock like they are the only Heavy Metal Band in the world. Still sound so good and Amazing.
Metallica forever.
I remember being excited for Load to come out. I bought the CD the day it came out. Listened to it once, and gave it away. I haven't bought any of their music since.
Do an updated version
Anyone else a little mad that they didn't mention the Table Joke?
+Seth Cox Yeah.
omg are you the real Samuel L. Jackson
Metallica and Slayer are the reason why metal still exists in today's world
But i assure u its dave mustaine and mille petrozza who protects the thrash metal music to this day. Still going strong, excited for the new megadeth album:)
... and in 2015 they came up with hardwired to self-destruct that also reminds us the early thrash metal sound. ( especially hardwired and spit out the bone)

I love this band ever since I listened to it back in the 80s. But I always had a crush with Kirk and still do😍😍😍😍😍
I'm a huge Metallica fan but LuLu was a far cry for master of puppets
Lulu wasn't a Metallica album. It was a Lou Reed album featuring them. The reason it has their name on it is because there label helped produce it. It was made entirely in respect to Lou.
I AM THE TABLE!
lulu isnt even a metallica album
+Hammer of Justice Crushes You OVERPOWER 1. Why do I keep seeing you everywhere
2. That's true, that was a Lou Reed album that Metallica just participated in, I feel like very few people know that

Metallica F’N rules! Puppets and Justice are the best. Lighting and Magnetic get high marks too.
I love how you say tha in death magnetic Kirk brings back the complex solos, yet you show him simply sliding his index finger down the fret board, fret by fret.

The fattest irony of this band is that two albums fans hate most are two of their best selling albums

History of Metallica?? more like Metallica's discography with some brief explanation. Ill recap what they said + a bit more info about the band so you don't have to waste 7 minutes like me:
Band formed in 1981 with originally James Hetfield on vocals and rhythm guitar, Dave Mustaine on Lead Guitar, Lars Ulrich on drums, Ron McGovney on bass. Originally they didn't find too much commercial success with their debut album, but the supporting tour in 1983 gained them some notoriety in the underground metal world. Each time they released a new album throughout the 1980's, Metallica became more and more famous. After Hiring Bob Rock as their producer to help create their 1991 self titled release, the band skyrocketed to international fame, and essentially became a household name, topping the billboard charts.
They've had a few lineup changes throughout the years:
Mustaine and McGovney left/were kicked from the band before their debut album in 1983, and replaced with Kirk Hammett on lead guitar, and Cliff Burton on bass. Burton died tragically in a bus crash in 1986, replaced with Jason Newsted. Newsted left the band in 2001, and Robert Trujillo became their newest bassist, and is still playing with them to this day.
