My father was in the same unit as a Korean War ace when he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during WW2. The pilot was named G.I. Ruddell. He became an ace in the Korean Conflict flying a F 86. In the Aleutians he flew a P 40. What an upgrade! I met Col. Ruddell at a reunion for 18th Pursuit Squadron Aleutian Campaign veterans. A very easy going humble man, the exact opposite of what you would think a fighter ace would be. I was honored to meet this air hero.
Mig-15 vs F-86 Sabre: Both had about the same level speed. Early in the
war the Mig had a higher rate of climb, very high ceiling with good
maneuverability, could pick when to fight, a major combat advantage. The
Sabres (A and E models) couldn't touch em. it had heavy cannon hampered
by slow rate of fire and velocity. Could not dive supersonic well,
would disintegrate. The Sabre was more rugged, harder to shoot down,
high rate of fire from 50 cal machine guns, radar gun sight, better
pilot training, but was sluggish at high altitudes. Last year of war saw
the F model Sabre with up rated engine which now could reach the MiG's
altitude and the 6-3 wing which gave it much better maneuverability up
there. The Mig-15 bis also got an up rated engine, but still had the
basic weaknesses. Bottom line: both roughly even at the beginning of the
war, with the F model Sabre getting a definite edge by the end..
del ross you forget the poor quality of MIGs. Did you know the MIG-15 used the British Nene Turbojet but it was reverse engineered
ua-cam.com/video/jifzbUEd7jg/v-deo.html
And don't forget the importance of pilot training and skill. Chuck Yeager tells the story of evaluating a MIG-15 brought over by a defector I believe. The story goes that some officer questioned Yeager on the MIG's capabilities, the upshot being that the superior aircraft would win in a dogfight. Yeager took him on it. He flew an F-86 with the other officer flying the MIG-15. Then they switched. Yeager waxed his tail both times.
I agree except for the lack of redundancy of safe guards (hydraulic systems to name one) for the pilot and plane.
Surely the notion of a `Jet fighter aircraft` is defined by the F86? Still the prettiest aircraft ever designed.
pesawat garuda
Air Skywalker the Pakistan Air Force received 24 F86 in the year 1956. Sidewinder equipped.
I think its the p-51d mustang
Agree with you, but I think there would be a tie between this plane and the mig 15
@@ijnyamato1109 It's the P51 of the jet age. Also built by the same company.
The F-86 and the P-51 were the best looking airplanes ever built by the US,imo...
Jeff Smith totally agree
Well the Sabre was a great copy of a german P1101 Messerschmitt design ua-cam.com/video/qqs1uP4dMyE/v-deo.html :-)
Schlipperschlopper actually, no. The 86 has the engine in a completely different spot. Just because they look similar doesn’t mean the 86 is a copy of the 1101
Saw one of these in a museum today. Awesome sight.
Bishop Polycarp... Seriously??? Oh that's SO AWESOME... I am SO Jealous of you right now dude... wish I could've been there...
Any pilot would love a chance to fly the F-86 Sabre Jet.
XD I would rather die the most horrible way possible then fly some American built plane I fucking hate the F-86 Saber it's so ugly even blind people think so
Love these informative channel!!!
My dad flew them back in the days for the South African Air Force. He really loved flying and planes.
like a piece of art
If you have a bad taste of art so yes that's so ugly even a pile of shit looks better
Fuck you... go take your insults and stuff elsewhere...
The F-86 was also equipped with a gun sight linked to radar that automatically computed range to target allowing pilots be more efficient when on the attack. The MiG lacked this feature.
One of my favorite planes ,great video
I've got to say this. That emblem is the 334th. My father was a Staff Sargent, mechanic on one in Korea.
Excellent camerawork there.
Oh how I love the Sabre. It's my favorite aircraft of all time.
Better than the mig 15?
Charles P. It was retired from US service many years ago, however, it was used as a front line fighter by Bolivia until '94.
beautiful
Always a classic beauty
It's classic but is it good looking...no it's not it's so ugly just the intake and the cockpit and how low down the wings are placed yuck my shit looks better then that
Beautiful jet!
Ugly jet
Knock it off with saying bad stuff about people's comments. get off the internet an don't watch the video if all ya got is bad stuff to say.
A thing of beauty.
Nah you have bad taste then the Migs are true beauty
I'm not a pilot or big time flight enthusiast but sound of the engines on this era of aircraft is hard core.
Beautiful
Ugly
What a beautiful aircraft
It's super ugly it's so ugly it shouldn't have been made
awesome aircraft...
I am thinking of buying one, but i don't think i got the time and the money to maintain it. There is a cheap T 33 for sale, i might go for that instead.
I saw a tiger cat for sale on trade a plane.
Obviously my favourite plane, ever!
Maytag dryer, kick the tire light the fir. Fabulous.
This thing should be still in use.
For what?
Sid Vicious They're still good. Personally I would rather see the RCAF get an upgraded version of the F-86 than see them get those POS F-35s.
Mwahaha105 It could work like Argentina did with their A4 but in which role an upgraded f-86 could fit nowadays?
Sid Vicious You never know until you try. Eurofighter Typhoons has been upgraded a lot, F-18s have been upgraded a lot. Why not this?
Mwahaha105 But those are still capable planes, i don't see the f-86 doing lot of things besides ground attack.
Do you ever think of the fact that the best-looking aircraft of their day are usually the best? Strange how that works.
@justforever96 I dont think it is possible, The F-86 has an ejection seat
So are there any F-86's in operation that have had a rear seat installed for passenger flights? Or even any original 2-seaters? I've seen P-51's and Spitfires that have had the radio bay replaced with a seat for passengers, and I wonder if one could do the same with an F-86.
i have never heard of a two seater 86 so easy to fly they didn't need one no sim no tf just start her up and go that is the check out
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome? No it's not it's not even good looking
The Saab J-29 Tunnan is my favorite of the 3 comparisons
ua-cam.com/video/jifzbUEd7jg/v-deo.html
Un gran avión, cuando era chico me gustaba verlos pasar pues la base de la FFAA desde donde operaban se encontraba cerca de mi casa.
5 now... he is an ace!!
This is what the Mustang would look like with a jet engine. The Sabre is one of the last planes with all the grace of the golden age of flight.
Please. THe Mig-15 was a farmer's tractor compared to this beauty. Sure you had maneuverability and firepower, but I'd like to see a Mig pull out of a sonic dive. Oh, that's right. It CAN'T because they didn't give them an all-moving tail-plane.
ANGELPROJECT667... also the New Updated Tail increased maneuverability for the F86 Sabre... an its updated engine increased climb rate... an also, the F86 Sabre had radar guided guns... those were really effective...
They are still remarkably similar planes even still.
3:29 kid is crying. mother is shouting at the pilot in that noisy airplane
Only 2 TF 86 F ever built (NA 204) could never find what happened to them. They had to lengthen the fuseluge to do it along with some other changes. Google F86 Saber and read the wikipedia article.
I agree.
Mettetolonella mia raccolta grazie
Well, I have no idea what any of these people are talking about, but an F-86 Sabre and MiG-15 are almost identical in performance. The only real practical difference is the armament. The MiG has 2 cannons, one is a 37mm and the other is a 23mm. It is intended as a bomber interceptor and has extremely limited ammunition (bout 30 rounds for 37mm cannon, and about 100-150 rounds of the 23mm). The F-86 had 6x .50 cal (12.7mm) machine guns with (I think) 1200 rounds and was intended to be a fighter.
She is a beauty!
Nah you're wrong or you most be blind
cool :)
this is the Sabre F-25?
Matheus Couto F-30, run the tail #
2nd favorite combat aircraft ever, second only to the F-16.
Saw their Poor sibling Hanged outside Pakistan Air force School that served in 1965 Indo Pak War...Huge respect for these Old guys they served and defended our future :*
@MetalSonic150 me too
Im glad you non pilots enjoy watching others fly.
One of the primary advantages of the MiG over the Sabre was its 4000-foot advantage in service ceiling. It would often happen that F-86s would enter MiG Alley at 40,000 feet, only to find MiGs circling 10,000 feet above them. There was nothing that the Sabre pilots could do unless the MiGs decided to come down and do battle
Just go higher
it is beautiful plane but you had to fly it to really appreciate it i count myself lucky i was able to fly the h model for a year worth going through cadets just for that
It's not beautiful it's the ugliest plane I've ever seen next to the P-47 Uglybolt errrm I mean the Thunderbolt
knock off the hate talk... scram...
California?
fucking gorgeous plane
Its an F-86-F-25
So you're saying that even though the MiG had better maneuverability and firepower, and was cheaper and simpler to make in large numbers, the F-86 is a superior warplane because it's prettier, and because it can juuust barely go supersonic in a dive while the MiG can't? I assume your meaning is that the faster diving speed is useful when Sabre pilots are trying to run away from the MiG.
@bsg1206 Not exactly...a Mustang has a few minor differences, like straight wings, and a square-ish tail, and not dihedral on the tailplane. Just sayin'. It would also look less like a P-51 if they weren't both bare aluminum (usually). I imagine an F-86 painted in Southeast Asian Theater camouflage would have a different appearance. Aside from that I can't argue, the F-86 was the last plane that could really be called a "warbird".
What!?
i came to this jet
MiG-15. Not -17. That was in Vietnam.
Mig 19
That got shot down by an F-86!
I'd give anything to fly that aircraft.
i flew it and i know what you mean just a pleasure with the bubble canopy you have the sensation of being one with the sky i am an old man and i can still remember that thrill the joy the delight i would go anywhere it the world to fly that plane
@AINGELPROJECT667 To me the F-86 air in take looks horrible, but I dont think its a bad plane because of it... ;)
I wonder if you can put an after burning engine on it.....humm.....
+JC Chainz The stress would probably shred the air frame.
they had an ab on the d model piece of shit
plus beau que le mystère 4, la pâle copie de chez dassault
je confirme mais toujours mions beaj que le mig 15 !
MM Alam of Pakistan made a world record taking down five Indian Hawker Hunters in less than a minute.
F-86 Sabre is a very sexy looking Jet. Prettier then its archenemy the MiG-17
.45 ACP... Sure is... a Beautiful and Amazing Jet Fighter... an also when it got another update an enabled it to carry Aim-9 Sidewinder missiles it killed the mig15 an mig17 in the 1958 Taiwan Strait Crisis...
Grande jato FAP
U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
Sexiest Jet ever designed.
i'd kill for a ride in that bird.
only a single seater but you could fly it with about ten minutes of ground instruction you couldn't hurt yourself most unforgiving plane should have kept it as a trainer
I wish the narrator had just shut his mouth for awhile. It detracted from the sound of the F86's engine on its passes.
WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD MEER AHMAD KHAN
Our very first jet fighter. the Korean war jet.
what was our very first jet fighter?
Bat Nuklier P-59 Airacomet
+Bat Nuklier P-80 Shooting Star.
real jets leave smoke trails. early jets ftmfw!
would someone tell the ccommentartor that if i want to know about an airplane i can FUCKING GOOGLE IT?
You ever fly any plane, son? If not, can it. Nobody cares what COD kids think.
Just think about when Pakistan with this Sabre, destroyed the whole Indian army and defense in 1965. Imagine what Pakistan could do now when she has 5th generation fighters in pipe line.
No, no-one cares what COD kids think. That is irrelevant as I am 27 and have never owned a video game in my life. As far as flying a plane, I seriously doubt more that 5% of the people who have commented on this video ever have, and one doesn't need to know how to fly a plane to compare the historical facts pertaining to two of them. In any case, I don't give a shit if you give a shit what I think. *I* give a shit what I think. And I doubt the other guy is a pilot either. Not that you care.
Spoilt by talk, talk, talk and more talk.
You were the one talking shit about the MiG. You were the one calling it a "farm tractor" and acting as if the Sabre is a clearly superior machine. I was giving you a taste of your own annoying fanboyism. Personally, I love them both. You were the one casting aspersions on the MiG and insinuating that it is inferior, as if the fact that is is ugly and can't go supersonic in a dive mean any thing at all. If I annoyed YOU, my deepest apologies. I don't know how I dared.
You underestimate our mig 15 (After all, each party brings its figures on losses We say that a lot of MiGs shot down 86 F do you have that F 86 shot down a lot of instant 15 who believe porn is not yet clear) your television all the lies they told Abrams and 1 m 2 is the best tank. And what do you say then that Abrams m 1 and 2 of the destroyed RPG 7 which is more than half a century!? 100 $ vs $ 6,000,000 :)
