For all of the people debating this in the comments, remember that all instruments play a vital role. I'm a tuba player. My band teacher once said that "The band is the conductor's instrument." It's true. Every instrument contributed to the ensemble sound, and every instrument is capable of awesome parts.
Well while on hold with Walt Disney World Resort over the telephone they played this song and then announced it as a song from Disney's Expedition Everest. So I didn't just pull this information out of my butt and it's not just my opinion or something. But thanks for playing.
I'm so cool, I played this with a professional symphony when I was 5 and was first chair trumpet, horn, oboe, and flute. At the same time. (Did I mention I lost my left hand in Vietnam?) It was so much fun! The best part was that I was better than everybody else! -Every person that comments on a band piece ever Jk tho this is a fantastic piece
I did play this recently. I won't say anything about me being good because I don't thinks so, but I really loved playing this piece. Now, the first chair in my section would totally have said something like that
Does no one else hear John Williams influence? Or, at least movie-soundtrack quality of writing? Love this piece!! Played it last year in high school with a T.A. director. :) So beautiful.
The only reason us band kids scroll through the comments is to find someone who has named their instrument and part so we can rant about how great it sounds. Not that I'm complaining. 1st horn all the way!!!!!
Played this for the Vermont All State festival today. It was my first and last allstate festival. The conductor, Dr. Booneshaft, actually called up Rossano Galante (he's actually on speed dial) and we played this piece for him from Vermont all the way to Galante in L.A. It was amazing.
+Patrick Jackson He told the story about the fly as well as the story about the March 4th with the thumbs-up and the story about the board that says that "I will always do my best for I can never have this moment again". Amazing man, really. He's inspired me.
This was the last piece I ever played with my middle school band. That was 2 years ago. Such great memories. We were pretty much all together for all 3 years. I remember the good times back then when I listen to this. :)
We just played this for a select All County HS band and it was amazing. The trumpets in our group were phenomenal and the low brass made everything cooler. Truly s great piece
I wish I had that experience. Im not a huge fan of his work; I mean I dont know all the music that he has written but my favorites are: "A Childhood Remembered", "Mt. Everest", "Afterlife" and "Cry of the last Unicorn". I remember tahat while rehearsing childhood the whole band started to put their instruments down, one by one, until almost everyone broke into into tears. It was beautiful. Music is powerful!!!
I almost cry hearing this, we performed this in my freshmen all county band. I made 1st chair as a freshmen for Tenor sax.. unexpectedly. I loved this song so much like you don't understand lol.
1:49 - 3:49 absolutely beautiful! Rossano Galante is such an imaginative, and versatile composer... It's amazing how he can write music with so much speed and power and at the same time compose emotional music with such lyricism and color... and he does it all in one piece right here!
I played this piece as first chair french horn last year for Region band and it was absolutely fantastic. I am in love with the horn part. So happy to actually have a melodic part!
I played this as a sax. No, I wasn't first chair, far from it. I wasn't good, I'll admit. But when my director handed me this piece, I listened to this video for hours, just trying to fit the tone and mood to my squeaks-ophone. I actually practiced this piece, and finally, my last concert for freshman year, we played it. I decided not to take band the next year, but listening to this gives me a heavy dose of nostalgia. I'm really gonna miss being in band; the fun we had, the stories we told, (the time we wasted), but most importantly, the music we made: as a family. I wish I was able to be a great sax, but I chose something different- for the best of the band. I'm really glad people are listening to this masterpiece. Have a blessed day. :) And goodbye band.... I look forward to listening to all the concerts
I'm section leader of alto sax this year (sophomore) and I'm first chair/ first part and I'm so excited to play this piece. Last year we played Hypnotic Memories. Alto sax players do you have any recommendations to help us learn it easier and to get notes/rhythms. There are only three of us.
Junior playing this as first trumpet. Been practicing this along with Beyond the Horizon literally all summer and convinced my band director to buy the pieces. These beautiful songs really prove there is much more to music than just ink on paper. I'm looking forward to playing these at CMEA!
Are all the Lincolnton kids on UA-cam looking this piece up and listening to it? If not, they need to. Even just for the music. It's a beautiful piece, and I'm proud to be marching this as part of my senior marching show.
this was the last song I ever played with wind ensemble at my high school. my band director brought out all the parts and we played it from sight-reading on the last day of school today. crazy to believe after all these years I played the tuba for the last time today.
my band director said that this is the senior song, when all the seniors wanted to play Africa: a song and ritual... i'm a freshman and really want to play Africa now because it sounds awesome like this.
Lightsaber Keyblades we played this last year in marching band and we won states!! this song is so amazing there's no wonder why we won the "best music" at almost every show we performed at.
I call this a great leaving song. To me, it has that feeling of being excited, but sad that you have to go. You get this crazy felling in your heart as you play it and you don't know whether you should be giddy with joy or crying.

i ALMOST got to play this... 2 weeks before the concert i broke my jaw, thus i couldn't play my clarinet... i bawled my eyes out for hours... My band played it amazingly though! :D
We played this as the recessional for our school's graduation. It would have been amazing but we had some tempo tears. It still sounded good though. As a Saxophone, I basically had the horn part the whole time. In total I saw 10 measures of rest in the piece. Galante likes his horns.
i played timpani on this as the only percussionist in a tiny community college band this past spring. always got a little misty eyed during the ballad :')
did this last year with my HS band, still the best piece I've ever played IMO, not just because of how good the piece was, but also because this was just so *fun* to play. (Bass Clarinet TRAIN)
@LovesAnimals95 I was supposed to play this piece (1st chair Clarinet :D) this past March for a music competition, but I broke my jaw in a sledding accident 3 weeks before the concert... My band still played it beautifully. So proud of us for pulling it off! You should see the music for it! EPIC!
+Lunch Yeah. From listening to songs written by the same composer on here, you can definitely point out similarities between the composer's songs, such as Rossano Galante and Robert Buckley.
I played this in middle school... First horn part was so fun:D n also the director came to our school a few days before we preformed at Carnegie hall in NYC :)
Definition of French Horn: Best instrument in existence. It's so versatile and simply an amazing sounding instrument. 1st horn is so perfect in this piece.
I play percussion one on this which is sleigh bells, shaker thing (not sure what its called) and triangle. And oooohhhh man those eight notes were hard to keep straight. We preformed in a festival for this and the guy was like yeah you're leading half the band in tempo. That was a stressful moment.
this is more of a Horn feature. they have melody all the time. it's absolutely GORGEOUS. i played it for my band festival. my directors last before she retires. it was perfect in every way since she kinda hit her "Mt. Everest" with that song.
My school paid for this to be writen my him. i go to ETMS (edward town middle school) this is such a good song im not gonna stop listening to it now!! im gonna downlad it on my ipod lol

One of the greatest symphonic band songs I've ever heard.
This piece sounds like a song you would hear waiting in line for a ride at like Universal or something
This song, or parts of it, actually play while you wait in line for the Expedition Everest ride at Disney World. :)
Meridith that is a lie and a half they play the farthest thing from this music in that line sorry to say.

I am playing this piece in the coming competition.
GREEK PLAYZ Where was the band competition, just curious that is all.
french horns are the prettiest and the most amazing instruments ever
Does no one else hear John Williams influence? Or, at least movie-soundtrack quality of writing? Love this piece!! Played it last year in high school with a T.A. director. :) So beautiful.

Noah Thomas I'm the only horn in my own band 😂
Saaaaaaaaame, I'm one of two horn players in my town. I'm in high school and the other kid is middle school.

Such a beautiful composition by my favorite band.

I love this song. This and the Cry of the Last Unicorn made Rossana Galante my favorite composer

this was the last song I ever played with wind ensemble at my high school. my band director brought out all the parts and we played it from sight-reading on the last day of school today. crazy to believe after all these years I played the tuba for the last time today.
i am so happy to have been the only french horn to play in this piece to have that amazing part in my school band
last year I had to play this for school and honor band as a freshman. it brings back so many memories. sucks tho how my new school doesn't have band
The part at 2:06 gave me goosebumps all over the place. My god it was gorgeous
Played this almost 3 years ago when Galante was the Composer in Residence at the Tilles Band Festival. Great tuba part.
my band director said that this is the senior song, when all the seniors wanted to play Africa: a song and ritual... i'm a freshman and really want to play Africa now because it sounds awesome like this.
and I want to play africa by toto
I played aux percussion in this piece.. The triangle part was fantastic, but nothing beat being the first-chair sleigh bell player. Oh, the 8th notes
Rossano Galante gave my wind ensemble a clinic... IT WAS GREAT
When I had to play this in my current HS year for Band class, 3:00 was my most favorite part (as a trumpet player)
this is perfectly my level! i sightread this today and loved it!
I'm playing this for my high school winter band show

Played this in the three years ago. How i miss it :'(
I play clarinet and I'm literally in love with woodwinds but damn Thia French horn has me SHOOK !
What an amazing piece. It flows so beautifully.
Yay I love this piece
Any piece that becomes jurassic park halfway through is a good piece.

This is so beautiful!! 😍😍
We are playing this for graduation and I couldn't be more excited!
so lucky....
I'm playing this year as first oboe in 8th grade. Does this sound a lot like Winged Stallion to anyone else?
I love this piece so much
This is awesome. Makes me miss band. :'(

this song was also written with very important brass parts, especially trumpet, as Rossano Galante had trumpet as his main instrument
that the best instrument to play in any band piece

Moises Robledo same, my concert is tomorrow
yea same
We played this in 6th grade. Our teacher pushed us very hard!!! He called out anyone who made a mistake!!

Rossano Galante does not write 20 pieces. He writes one piece 20 times. This is not necessarily a bad thing.
Playin this for my seventh grade all county wow
had to play timpani on this song. those pitch changes were almost the end of me
MY BAND SHOW THIS SEASON :D
