    If you've ever wondered if that awesome bumper upgrade for your off road rig (Jeep, Truck, SUV) is to difficult for you to tackle at home...check out this video featuring a full installation of the WARN Rock Crawler Bumper and the WARN Zeon 10-S Winch with the Synthetic Rope onto a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.
    What I want to show in this video is that anyone with a few basic tools can accomplish this upgrade at home.
    After asking a very experienced off-roader what the first upgrade to tackle on my Jeep, he said get a heavy duty bumper and a WARN winch. I thought for sure he was going to say bigger tires or lift kit and was kind of surprised by the answer.
    The reason is very simple, this bone stock Jeep JKU Rubicon is very capable and until I get a bunch more experience, will get me most anywhere I want to go. However, since my work schedule is a bit crazy, I often times go off roading alone and a winch is a very important factor in getting out of a tough situation.
    The other bit of advice from my VERY knowledgeable off roading friend was to just GET OUT AND GO WHEELING! No matter what you have on your rig. So I will, every chance I get and have the confidence that I can get myself out of almost any sticky situation that I may find myself in.

    I like how you do all these by yourself. I can't get myself a car to play with but I like looking at modification videos and fantasize about doing things myself. Your videos feel very personal and interesting. Keep up the good work

      Well, when I started this build the mid length bumper seemed to be the right choice for an Overland type of rig ... but it has evolved since then into a more aggressive Jeep. Stick around...I think I might just cut the ends of the current bumper.

    I realize this is an older video and this question may have already been asked and answered but Im doing a Warn bumper and winch on my jeep and am curious as to how much suspension sag I should expect ? I already have a 2.5 inch lift so should I expect to have to install spacers or will I need new front springs ? Btw.... You have some great videos !

      +Mark Huebsch I have a few thousand miles on it now with the stock suspension and it feels different but still drives great. I will put a lift on it at some point but not because of the winch...the thing just needs a few more inches of ground clearance to get where I'm going!

    Plastic doesn’t dent or scratch. If you slam a metal skid plate into a rock things break and bend. The winch is a great insurance policy. I trail ride alone sometimes too. I’d like to have this set up on my new jl.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  5 років тому +1

      Yeah, you keep running that plastic and let me know how that works out. There are more videos in this playlist of me running the Rubicon trail and the aftermath... metal skids are mandatory equipment.

    • @aaronchandler2380
      @aaronchandler2380 5 років тому

      AutoEdits I appreciate your advice and info! Skid plates are important, sometimes over kill happens. I got a large gouge in my front plastic plate last time out. It did what it was supposed to do. With 285 hp, how much weight is too much weight? Your winch is definitely worth carrying. I don’t want to be too top heavy or too heavy all around. Thanks!

    Nice video! A few questions:
    1) Did the guy you spoke with recommend an electric winch over a hydraulic one?
    2) Does that bumper limit your tire size? Those look like stock tires and I wonder if 33s or 35s would hit the bumper
    3) Don’t you get the front of the vehicle sagging if you don’t add spacers due to the extra weight of the new bumper?

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  5 років тому

      Electric winch, I ran 37" tires with no problems, I did add 1" spring spacers in the front to accommodate the extra weight.

    Hello. Just got an ‘18 JK Rubicon. Want to upgrade front and rear plastic bumpers to steel. May get a stubby for front. (Will also add a winch) Wondering how much extra weight affects suspension. Should I “balance” weight by doing both simultaneously? Upgrade suspension/add lift first?

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 років тому

      Congrats on your new Jeep and welcome! If you can do front and rear at the same time, I recommend that. I did notice the weight of the bumper and winch on the front. Putting 1.5" spring spacers in the front ended up really helping out a lot.

      @kscht82 6 років тому +1

      Thank you. I just saw the video where you did the spacers and bump stops, all though I couldn't really see where you did the spring spacers). Was also considering aluminum, but don't see nearly as many options. Thanks again!

      Nothing really to show other than a small bracket and the canister bolted right up.

      Hey, I remember watching another you tube video of a guy that had to use a die grinder or drill to clearance out the holes to fit. I guess I was lucky and it went on pretty easy for this install. Try that if you have those tools... The metal is plenty strong if you have to open the holes up!

    • @michaelgreene4675
      @michaelgreene4675 7 років тому

      Thanks for the advice. I had to drill out the the top outboard frame holes just to get the thing on. Still couldn't line up all the bolts though. Must just be me. My new warn zeon 10-s is in the mail right now and should be here soon. ill let you know how that goes. Hopefully its as easy as you made it seem.

      Hey Erik - just a heads up, but there are several companies that make awesome brush guard/bumper bars with and without spots for lights that you can simply add on to your stock bumper. One of the companies is called Maximus 3 - they sell a few that don't require any cutting, from what I understand.

      thank you so much. I'm working on making the jeep what I want. just upgraded the sound bar inside so the stereo sounds nice. put in an amp and a under the seat sub

    • @zdeptawa
      @zdeptawa 8 років тому

      That's the best part of Jeep ownership - making them how you want them! Search around for free/cheap mods (like the MagLite holder, tweeter mod, etc) if you're looking for some more inspiration without spending a ton of cash. :D

      +Erik Black How did you go about deciding what audio upgrades you wanted to do/ could afford? I have the infinity package in my jku and the sound bar speakers are pitiful but I am really not sure if I should get a sub or put a sub in the sound bar or need to upgrade all speakers and tweeters to accommodate a sub

    • @ezzak01
      @ezzak01 8 років тому

      well I have always had big subs and amps in all my rides, but in my jeep I didn't want all that speaker box stuff but wanted good sound, so I just did a little research and found what I wanted for the jeep and installed myself. first I replaced the sound bar with 150watt rms 3 ways that really wasent hard to find, but really sound good.

    This has probably been asked a bazillion times, but are you doing this in the living room? Is that laminate flooring? That is really a sweet idea for a garage. How does it hold up to oil and grease, etc.? What do you think would happen in northern climes with road salt and lots of rainwater, etc.? I probably know the answer to that... :-(

    🌟Big Tip:🌟 remove your grill, then remove that plastic piece you drill out. MUCH better access to the inside bumper bolts. The driver side still SUCKS but it's a little easier.
