Just caught up to this exceptional pianist when with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and have been tracking Dan since then. So rhythmic and on target. Great trio as well.
How to turn a rather banal kind of song into an absolutely sublimely driven masterpiece of Jazz improvisation/interpretation. Well.....here it is! This is an majestic Jazz trio of the highest order! Thanks Dan & his men! And also my thanks you this fantastic upload.
Sam Ferguson The original tune was composed by the Austrian/Hungarian composer Frans Lehár. He’s mostly known for his very popular “sugary” -Operettas- (from the end 1800’s into the1900’s), which became the equivalent in America as -Musicals-, which you would surely know Sam. His most popular operetta btw was “The Merry Widow”. But what Dan and his sidemen accomplish here is truly remarkable. Good talking too you, Sam. Enjoy & Cheers!
Everything so sophisticated and that short-trousered, like going to the beach foto goof, taking footage of one the best piano man...isn't there anybody to dress that ignorant properly?? It spoils the magic of his performance, like ketchup on Italian cuisine
David Wong, killer bass player. commited to every note
so smooth

Somebody raised this kid right and fed him well!! Get 'em, Dan!!
The best of everything to you and the trio.
I love listening to this guy. You can't help but smile.
Come on Dan! A great trio.Undeniable contribution to Jazz.
Dan- you are rockin’ it out on this one! Those fast parallel block chords make my arms hurt just thinking about them.
And then the cool parallel passage at 3:35 knocked me out too. Love that stuff.
Wonderful fluent, swinging playing with great humour!

I kind of love this tune. But yes, I see what you mean about "banal."

^^ 좋네요
This is jazz
Resembles a little bit the great OP.
Good...
He is heavily influenced by Oscar Peterson in technique, chops and style. Secondly, by Errol Garner.
It's so great to see that great jazz didn't die with the greats!
..and the emotion that comes through in his playing is beautiful. I could listen to him all night...and just might at that.
I'm hearing a little Wynton Kelly too. And if you want to hear Oscar playing the same tune, here you go: ua-cam.com/video/_cLQ6fdEWv0/v-deo.html

Bravissimo ma un po' troppo Garner e Peterson dipendente!
Si ma è bravo ( chi è che non si fa influenzare da precedenti musicisti ? )
