Contains one of my favorite versions of Time Remembered ever. Back then, that could have been released as a single and at least made the Billboard Hot 100 in the US if not reached the Top 40.

Bill Evans is one the most important Jazz pianists of all time. His work with Miles Davis on modal Jazz is a watershed moment in the history of the genre. But, damn! It hurts just looking at his posture. He reminds me of Schroeder from Charlie Brown

The Bill Evans Trio in miniature, basically. Anything Bill usually stretched out (i.e. Nardis) he kept short yet sweet, and even pieces that were meant to be played within a certain time frame (i.e. Time Remembered [no pun intended here]) were tightened up a bit more. The musical quality is still excellent, of course.

the drummer was a sub, that might be the reason. I've seen a video of them trying out a regular autumn leaves intro before giving up

He would have been 92 years ago yesterday were it not for drug abuse and healthy diet. My heart swings and has been full for 35 years with this trio. Thank you Mr. Evans and company. The bass player was Bills equal. Was that Scott Lafaro?

This got me to go look. Mr Gomez is still alive at age 77. Likewise, Mr. Riel is 81.

Beautiful piano, bass, drums, blessed Norway. Treasured trio, archived. Why mention past, becoming more healthy? Workshops later years assembles, horns, saxes, synthesizers, piano, percussion , William COBHAM? 1964 clear clean nordics and them. Rest In Peace.

I know he was off heroin around 1969/70 do we know if he was allready on when this was taped? Just curiosity, performance is great.

    • @Martian128

As i understand it, he got turned on to heroin back in his Miles Davis days (if not before) possibly by Philly Joe Jones. I think i first heard him on Miles' Kind Of Blue album (early 60's). I fell totally for his sound. He was probably already a junkie. I have loved him for the duration, but always accompanied by some anger/frustration with him for choosing to shorten his life. (i haven't always made the best choices in my own life)
But we have quite a wealth of recorded examples of his genius. Unlike Clifford Brown, Scott LaFaro and countless other lost talents

I'm no expert and i never saw Bill play live (these vids are a godsend!) but i would guess on this Oslo date he was pretty stoned. He often played slumped over the keyboard, but in this vid his head seems particularly slack on his neck and the slump is not just over the keyboard, he's going from side to side, a couple times i was afraid he was going to fall over (and Eddie gave him a concerned look or two).
PLAYED HIS ASS OFF though! Those concert-goers got their money's worth and then some. Jazz history by jazz royalty! wow ...
