So yeah, please don't be too upset if I insult something you like here. It's my own opinion. That said, I'm curious if you agree with me. Let me know^^
I agree with most of what you said, personally I think hip hop and rap respectively can fit into video games, show, and movies if done right. But not with sonic, it was so jarring, and I think even people who didn't care about sonic thought it was pretty out of place. Also I will NEVER understand why western companies will insist on changing a product or movie that originated from Japan, like the live action your name and ghost in the shell films.
@@OtakuDaiKun True, but it was still a pretty awful adaptation of the original. As for Your Name I think it's still in production, and as always they're trying to westernize it by having take place in Chicago instead of Tokyo.
Problem is the majority (keyword: majority) of people in the West will always view almost anything "anime" as for kids. It's part of the stigma of anime in the West. In Japan there is no stigma for the medium. And if there is it's not the majority of people. Fact is we are a vocal minority who would love anime Google assistant or Siri product.
That's always been my biggest problem when i recommend an anime i know someone will like. That is until they actually watch it then they always ask for more things like it.
@@TheHorribleCreature Jeanne D'Arc Alter is certainly elusive. Got Gorgon with the Babylonia free 4 star ticket, though, which I was quite happy about, since I love Medusa and Gorgon is just big titty MILF Medusa.
I hate when people think all of America is "woke" or need to be "culturally appropriate" as if it was it would have burned down. Also any censorship is bad
@@austinlawrence6987 yeah it's stupid America is seen as needed to be more diverse yet we have all different races and cultures compared to ay other country. I'm not white bur I know who they will go after if hey keep going so i never supoort diversity for sake of it
honestly the West is pissing me off by saying we should be more PC and accept others while imposing their opinions and cultures on those same countries I dunno if my message was understandable enough sorry if it wasn't
Not to mention laugh at them, at the same time showing to companies the fans who love the content will support. Then Vote with the wallet to let the Companies know not to be greedy, or better yet not every fan will be a blind one to said company if said company starts dropping in quality.
When people say Japan or anime is weird, I just think of the fact that my one of my favourite Western cartoons are about a talking sponge living underwater that works at a fast food restaurant (Spongebob) and my other favourite western cartoon is a bunch of 10 year old kids swearing flagrantly where there is a character who is literally a talking pile of shit (South Park)
Nathaniel Duncan If Japan is weird, so is the West or pretty much everywhere in the world I’m just saying that stuff in the West is also weird, we just overlook it because we’re used to it so we don’t consider it weird e.g. Spongebob, South Park, tipping, kissing and hugging when greeting, that one gangsta handshake every male in a certain age bracket does (idk where you live but I have to greet many of my friends with an over the top handshake for some reason), calling elders by name etc.
@@MrGrimjaw well babys know if they like anime. My nephew was watching himouto ending as it was cute and neice liked the arc v colors of yugioh ad me playing games. Also I saw a baby Lazer focus on anime years back so he must be an anime fan now.
Yes, YEEESSSS! *evil maniacle laughter*. Corrupt them, full weeb, corrupt them. Turn them into otaku trash. I've already converted my younger and older cousins.
@@obikim11 don't talk like that it's weird well my niece likes seeing me play games sometimes but she isn't old enough to read through some manga so I'll wait until middle school. For now just Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are fine to see and most of my older cousins come to me for one piece or attack on Titan info anyways.
The ultimate irony is that a company slowly kill themselves for ignoring the actual fans. Bethesda, ea, rooster teeth, Sony, Funimation, just to name a few.
@@DemonicRemption everyone? Back when watching TV was still a thing if a child gets hold of the remote simpsons, FG and AD were really all the good shows. Very few kids I knew when I was in that era preferred PBS kids shows over those.
Some people come for the unique kind of storytelling you can’t find anywhere else while others come for the waifus. Anime isn’t as niche as it once was anymore. It’s still weird sometimes, but we are self-aware of it. I guess the reason why I personally like Anime is that it’s not as cynical as Western stories these days. It is sometimes comedic and other times melodramatic, but I love every second of it. Hope others can relate!
I've been getting into anime for a LOT of reasons, and yes, a LOT of them equate to anime doing something good a LOT better than most western media; I watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood from beginning to end, and I'm getting into my third watch of Kill la Kill. A LOT of the games I have on my Switch also have a VERY strong anime feel to them; The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Shantae: Half Genie Hero, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and those're just the ones I can name off the top of my head. I'm also looking for more anime style games on Steam that AREN'T just visual novels or clickers meant to show you tits; games like Elsword and possibly Soulcalibur 6 to name a couple. Anime just seems to be ACTUALLY ENTERTAINING compared to most western works; seriously, the ONLY western studios I can name that put ANYTHING good out nowadays are Pixar (The Incredibles 1/2), and Wayforward (Shantae franchise).
Aesthetic anime and classic Disney animations, my biggest joy in the realms of animation with stunning visuals and loveble character designs. Btw, I wish I could support and help you more, Dai, but for now all I can do is like, comment and share your content. Hope that helps, even if just a little
It really sucks as we can't really influence the greater world, as those in power are very stubborn, and think they are the "normal" and that we are the weirdos for liking things that are different than what they prefer.
All it takes is one smart businessman to realize the potential demand for the gatebox and he'll make millions. I for one hope they can license some characters from popular anime.
“American animation has gone in the gutter” Me: *looks at shitty reboots like teen titans go and powderpuff girls* Yeah that’s why I stopped watching TV and only watch UA-cam and Anime Me through the entire video:I agree with this too much
Saturday Anime on the Sci-fi Channel was the thing I looked forward to most in my youth. I was really into drawing back then and noticed how beautifully detailed anime was. Could only catch full episodes of sailor moon and samurai pizza cats on holidays.
I'm from Tunisia and i like anime and some cartoon like rec and Morty and more and her gaming is a bad thing also anime is none existing and many other bad things
Recently I explained Isekai to my mom using Vol 1 of the So I'm a spider so what as an example and she was interested I'm so thankful my parents are so accepting and never shamed me
I later explained Isekai to my dad using Overlord as an example when he took me to a small con (Which was my first) I got a cheap Demon Lord Rimuru Figure

@@DemonicRemption Right, no need to be hostile, if that is your intent. You can market both separate easily, and make money on both the base is there, you'd need only the programming and permissions. MOST Puritans wouldn't want high tech anyway, but maybe their aiming for the middle, not anime fans or puritans, you ask? Well, simple, they may be, but again they are less likely to hear or care about this as well. Ultimately it's hardly the issue by siding with one side entirely you cut any chance of making the most out of it, this is marketing not politics, you don't need to be one sided.
Not going to lie I used to really like western cartoons as a kid but nowadays it's such trash that its painfull to look at. They look so lazy artistically its embracing to have to say its animation kids or people in my country enjoy. Its lazy uninspired low effort cost efficient trash that's more concerned with keeping their animation budgets at all time lows then telling a story. Still they aren't the worst offenders in my opinion. The worst offenders are the people who waste what could have been a good story and instead turn it into their magnum opuis of wokeness. The newer voltron is a good example it had so pretty good starter sessions but in the last few wow oh wow did it just shit itself to forceful tell a woke narrative that didn't work properly at all.
As much as I love living in America I've always found myself going for indie or foreign forms of entertainment. I read more web novels than books, mangas than comics, and listening to more vocaloid songs than the new stuff hip-hop artist put out. It just feels like those types of media enjoy what they do and are actually concerned with making an entertaining product, rather than an "inoffensive" product focused on pandering.
Also learning japanese too so I can start translating someday starting this summer and help other users like some fate mangas still need translation so wish me luck
I would love to see all the loli fan do a then event where they share different drawings of characters and sell them to the masses. Donating all the money the a Children Hospital please make this happen.
This vid has a lot of passion in it and honestly everything you said is true. It makes me quite sad seeing people change the things we love and what works for their own wrong self righteousness. But man those holograms look absolutely terrible. It's like he's intentionally making it that way because he has a vendetta with anime and hope's it fails.
I can relate on the whole “being from the West yet disappointed with my “peers” here” aspect. I feel like it’s more offensive to actually take media from outside the country and make it “suited” for the West because: 1) That’s assuming people are ignorant and won’t get it’s from outside the country and/or look into the context of it (in which is probably what they think happens) 2) Ruins the original intention or context of the media 3) is forcing a “what we think is right” over others It’s almost like they don’t realize that we’re smart enough to understand that values, intent, or context in media from Japan are made differently from here and that some of us want to see that. But no, they got to take it, edit or censor it to be more unappealing. Well, that’s on them then when they don’t make as much money because the media they sell is inferior to the original one and as a result, people don’t want it. (Capitalism ho!)
I feel like one factor might be how the west views show and movies. Maybe it's just me, but from my point of view, no one actually concentrates 100% of their attention on the display. At least half is talking to someone while the thing plays in the background, a good quarter is on the phone at social media recording themselves watching the content, the hardcore ones also text, and when its all over they stand up claim they watched it and say, " yea its pretty good" .
I may not be from the west but these western ideals of anime being for kids still affect me more than it should. My father and mother have seen my growth over the years and constantly bash me for watching 'cartoons'. I mean sure I still watch cartoons for kids but they generalized anime into 'cartoons' too and the reason he bashes me for it because he believes that I cannot learn anything good from them.................. When I hear those words.......my heart and soul crack, each and every time. My parents may have tried to teach me lessons about the earth but since they did not want me to experience any of them I could never understand the horrors behind it. When I watch anime or cartoons that convey theses kind of lessons, I really get a feel for what it feels like to be in those dangerous situations. Games are the same to my parents because it takes all my attention and I stop paying attention to the real world. Anime and games have taught me more than my parents have, in fact, I have become very accepting of our world and its problems because of it. I understood that the world we live in will never be able to reach the 'Perfection' that everyone is dreaming about and that it will always remain both beautiful and ugly. My parents may think that they are teaching life lessons by shouting and lecturing about the horrible reality we live in. Although it was anime and games that have taught me of the monstrosities that live in this plane of existence. Ironically, harem anime has unintentionally taught me that everyone is equal to an extent, we may have differences and that will tip the balance of chances to or against us but in the end, it is all up to preferences. I have learned to appreciate each and every person, even people I thought I never would ever appreciate because of stereotypes growing up. Action anime has taught me that there is beauty in something that is considered ugly and dangerous. Some people fight to protect and some fight to hurt but even so their desires are still their own. Sorry if this was quite long, I have been holding this in for years and years. It really does feel nice to get out what is present, that way I can handle the next years that my parents bash me again.
Hey Dai love your content! Bit of a story. So my parents at first scolded me for liking anime way too much (it’s how I’ve met my friends actually.) One day my mom was reminiscing some shows she used to watch as a young girl. Turns out the animation was of JAPANESE design, so I told her, “Mom that’s anime you’re watching.” She and I never laughed so hard in our lives.
I love this video! It’s really annoying how American companies have to Americanize everything for no reason. We used to be good at making art and beautiful things too, and I think we passed it on to japan. I do t know what the hell happened to American Animation studios.
Project: Laifu for waifu sounds like a great ambition that i would throw money at. That aside, it sucks when people tend to look down upon those who enjoy it. When my local mall added Funko pop store which also sold anime/vocaloid figurines, posters, and so much more i was ecstatic, but it's sad to see that many who go there tend to be in a rush or hurry to leave the store out of fear of being judged by the other shoppers. I could care less what those people think though, as i have long since abandoned any sense of shame for enjoying what I love!
I agree with almost 100% and I can absolutely understand why you're upset with Western companies, as most of we all are. They just don't get it and think that doing EVERYTHING their way without even considering why the original made success is a good method for bringing eastern culture to the western fans. It will take some time until most of them start to realize, sadly...
I remember the first time I ever saw an anime. An episode of Inuyasha that I just happened to catch on TV when I was really young. Young enough to think that even the shows on 4kids were amazing. If even old enough for THAT. And I was star struck when I saw that episode! At that age, I thought it was a cartoon like what i usually watched, but even then i thought that it LOOKED so much better than anything I'd seen before.
There is a difference between a translation and a localization 🤦♂️ it's why companies that try to change Japanese media come off as greedy and non caring 🙄, I know that companies want to make money but at least be in touch with fans 😑
I personally believe that anything should be experienced and enjoyed how its creator intended it to be , things like remaking it for different audience or even censoring it ruins the fun for me . I mean come on the people actually got attracted this whole thing because it’s different from other media ...
I'm not gonna lie I'd buy a Gate Box (the small one) because it fascinates me and It's basically an Alexa that provides some companionship (perfect for when you're alone for long periods of time) and I wonder if it could help you practice Japanese seeing as having conversions in a language can help you learn it
I think part of the problem is the people are charge. They are the old guard aka people well beyond their 50's or have had a very limited world view in their upbringing. Then there are also the people who stereotype all anime as hentai. Like, I got into a disagreement with a guy asking why I was using anime card sleeves. I asked him, why shouldn't I? He said "because it's anime" as if it was an offensive thing. Needless to say, I don't talk to that person anymore...
If everything needs to be culturally appropriate than why do they keep changing said culture to not fit in with the appropriate culture it was made for??? Things like the sonic movie is made not to fit into the people who like the games but the people outside of those games. The ai from Japan was made for Japanese culture. America is a mixing pot for culture and races and yet companies take those cultures and try to make their own American culture which we honestly don’t have one.
In my mind, the way is to simply import from Japan and do translations (if possible), so they, maybe, would leave this "adaptation" aside. So they will understand that they are just throwing shit on the fan. Big hug from Brazil
9:05 When you uttered this line, I was convinced that you’re the child of Yusuke Kitagawa and Futaba Sakura. I don’t necessarily agree with everything you say about design choices, but I do agree that Western companies have a habit of making things look bad for no good reason.
Dude he could of just added a virtual customization option for the avatar so it can be build however it like to the Western release for it, everybody wins.
I, doubt they have brain for imagination at first place because realistic thing they say about... To be REAL fan you need at least have good understand how imagination work at first place..
I grew up loving amazing anime. I seen it grow into something so badass that it inspired me to make my own characters and stories based off it. And I’m from the west. So seeing people bash it unjustly, and just make fun for no sort of reason other than it being a cartoon make me mad. Hopefully one day I can make my own hit anime, and I can thank all the talented creators that inspired me like Nasu, Akira Toriyama, and many more. Respect for Anime, it shall unite the world!
While I'm going to remain neutral towards the Ahego Shirt event I'll agree that people should wear what they want to at conventions, it's a rare time of the year where we can hang out and not feel weird for being weird. As for the AI companion it should be a choice on what you want, if you want a SIMs looking fucker choose that, if you want an anime one choose that. Don't remove content because you might think it's weird (This is my fuck you to EA). Heck someone might want a Zombie as an assistant. And I'm just going to let the Anime Art event be left as is because I agree with OtakuDaikun
I remember a cute cosplayer whose costume was almost non-existent: bra, skirt, the rest was horns, painted hair with accessories, body paint and accessories. She explained to a youtuber that she always came like this if only to see if they'd allow her in. Most did. Granted the costume was SFW she was a cosplayer, not an exhibitionnist.
Anime is always used same as video games as a scape goat as normal people don't know any better no matter what is wrong. Also I see no dub anymore as it's not as good before with the English va adding stupid woke changes and changing someone else's art only when they have full protection to say whatever
finally got around to watch this video, good work as always. it saddens me to see a medium take I've fall in love with being tarnished despite it being "more mainstream" so of course I'll spread the word. who knows maybe Lost Pause will show up on one of those charity livestreams
Yet Boss Baby gets awards while movies like Your Name, (any) Studio Ghibli movie, or my personal favorite A Scilent Voice will never be recognized by the west. It's so upsetting.
I saw a dude wearing ahegao shirt in last year's Malaysia's Comic Fiesta. And we all know how deep this country is with censorship. It's pretty funny nobody stopping him from wearing that
While I certainly don’t feel so intensely about it, I have always proffered anime, manga, light novels, etc. to Western Entertainment. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there always felt like a very different type of storytelling was in those Japanese mediums that I found more appealing. That and anime art styles are, in my opinion, very nice, detailed, and easy on the eyes. When I was younger though, I always thought I’d have been thought of as a weirdo if I came out about it, so I kept it secret for awhile, lol. I’m a lot more open about it now, and have made some pretty great friends through sharing that interest with them. I even got a wonderful $200 Nero figure at the corner of my desk at college now.
im completely with you daikun. i have visual issues and i cant stand western shows. But i love anime. sub or dub.any type i love Anime amd games like code vein
Especially with recent western animation, almost all of them kinda looks like a variation of Steven Universe. They don't have unique visuals like Spongebob or Adventure Times. Tbh, the same can be said to anime, the shitty ones usually kinda feel samey.
I wouldn't say all western shows ever have had bad art. Indeed I'm a sucker for some of the older DC Saturday morning shows (And the animated movies are literally 10x better than the shit DC tries to show in movies. I consider it an achievement for how bad the Suicide Squad movie is compared to the OVA), but especially the latest trend of people being too cheap to pay for animation to either bad CGI or filled with shit like Teen Titans Go/Thundercats Go. This is because they want the biggest bang for the buck and doing the humorous art style is easy and costs much less compared to action series. And it isn't good humour like the original Animaniacs either.
"Sometimes im ashamed to be from the west" yeah you just summed up my whole life XD Its not like japan is a perfect utopia we shall all aim for but people doesn't get that their culture can be very different than ours and just as valid, they just see something different and want to change it and/or destroy it. BTW I don't think I can help you directly with being part of your charity stream but I'll be sure to share it as much as I can when the time comes, I really like what you do ^^ Also im kind of a NSFW artist XD so if I can help with something even a little let me know, this is what I do: twitter.com/HaganeRyusuke
Also as an off topic, I find it funny how a show like RWBY which is obviously inspired by anime can get so tainted with western "woke" ideas, I used to love it, now im not even sure if i want to finish the latest season.
@@OtakuDaiKun I hope I don't get in trouble for saying this XD Mostly for all the sudden and forced "LGBT representation" , I remember that since volume 5 started there are always a gay/lesbian couple in the background or the foreground, if this was true from the beginning it could feel more natural but no, suddenly Jaune's sister is married to another woman with a baby, suddenly bumblebee (YangxBlake) its a real thing, an maybe even in the future there's something with Ruby and Weiss or Qrow and Clover. and the worst part is that these relationships feels more like they just need to be there but they don't have the time to make them meaningful to the story or the characters. And even in the production of the show, i hate that they fired Vic Mignona as Qrow's voice actor for all those false accusations about sexual harassment (at least the last time I checked he was still founded innocent and with the support of a lot of people). As an extra I guess I could also mention that how there's suddenly a latino character like Maria Calavera if this is a fantasy world with no Mexico on the map but I guess this is very nitpicky XD Anyway sorry for the long rant I don't know where to stop. Correct me if im wrong in something please.
RevivalOfSchwann I feel ya there except I was expecting bumbleby. Qrow’s thing was mostly fans getting excited over bait. Jaune’s sister was the only gay couple Ive seen in a lot of media. That’s just how I feel.
I do agree with you but... we shouldn't "normalize" anime or "make other people understand it" I want to gatekeep it and let the disgusting normies be afraid of it so it would stay pure and unfiltered. Untouched by the normie stain.
Going back to the Sonic music, I can't stand when people call Crush 40 and similar artists "90s butt rock." Like, if that's what you consider bad then what the hell is supposed to be good cause it certainly ain't any of the crap that comes out of pop music artists today. It says a lot that when during my twelve hour shift at work I'll always end up leaving the radio on the 80s-90s station if I want to listen to anything good.
honestly i hate stuff like siri, it creeps me out. but something like that, if you used the anime girl, would likely draw me in due to the character being friendly, adorable, and relatable. however, as soon as i saw their idea of it i was immediately driven away as it it just came off as down right creepy and ugly. like these guys seriously don't understand anything...
I do generally agree with the video. But something I definitely have to say; yeah, Thundercats reboot doesn't look good, but it doesn't mean that's all western cartoons. It's definitely not an appealing series to an older audience and it does feel disrespectful to the fans of the original series that they made it more kid-friendly than it probably already was. However, there's Teen Titans, Justice League, Rick and Morty, or even Hotel Hazbin. Good examples of what western animation can be, but sadly are overlooked. But the only other issue is the music. I get your point and that it's more about the styling. The Ramones sounds great with Spider-Man, but Sonic does feel weird with Gangsters Paradise. The problem is styling and how many interpretate that a property needs to adapt to a culture for it to work. It's grossly inaccurate and shows how companies are disconnected from their consumers. Yeah, people like certain styles and that should be respected, but shouldn't be a limiting factor. But yes, these puritans really do need to stop pretending to be fans of a product when they're only a fan of an agenda. So with that, hopefully the livestreams and charities go well
Preach, Dai. Thanks for the great vid. I find it really hypocritical when the same people who say they believe in acceptance and tolerance are, instead, absolutely intolerant when it comes to otaku culture. This isn't to say everyone who doesn't care for anime is intolerant, but a very noticeable and vocal chunk of those people are.
"make anime palatable to western audiences" :sighs: lemme make some non-spicy hot pepper and whisky with no alcohol, then transform Love Hina until mainstream western audiences would dig it, which would result in an awkward comedy about a love pentagon mentally and physically abusing a young man.
I have done research on anime reinterpreting Western philosophy and culture for my university. I follow your train of thought. The West is declining. Read Samuel J. Huntington's book on the fall of Western supremacy in world culture and history
This reminds me of an old project to write a novel at crossroads between light novel and classic literature. Later I found out on forg kun's blog that people like I used to be already existed: "let us redeem light novels!". An arrogant an clueless stance which would semerely limit the creative process, since the writer would be constantly worried about appealing to as many audiences as possible and in the end pleasing no one.
Well basically if you can't change them, then we all just need to learn Japanese. Experiencing from the first hand is always better than second-handed translation. Another life goal to achieve.
As much as I can agree with you on portraying content faithfully when bring it from region to region, I really dislike the idea of normalization of anime to the west. My fondest memories of loving anime were from before the 2010s decade, when it was niche, and only the people that were really into anime knew how to even find translations because it hadn't been picked up by western big business. The normalization of anime has led to businesses monopolizing series exposure in the west and inadvertently killing fansubbing and grassroots culture. The whole idea of any fanbase leaving its niche really sucks as a whole because normalization leads to there being a larger target audience, which in turn leads to large businesses wanting to turn a profit, thereby limiting the freedoms to which the English-speaking population can consume said media when they license it.
I'm glad I live in Europe. From my short life experience european cartoons are more lax and less stingy for "the apropriate" (read baby content). Have you ever watched an european cartoon? Especially French cartoons, those are the second best to anime and their creators said they were inspired by anime and that shows. Also taking into account some of these date as far as early 2000s. Besides nothing should be censored or deemed inferior for any reason, much less the pathetic excuses they make for it. I'm not sure if this applies to all Europe but at least in my country those excuses are beyond pathetic and here's why: At the age of 5-6 when you're about to enter school every child knows what sex is. They don't see it with the same view as teens or adults but they know how it's done. Here's the funny part, IT'S GROSS. Even kissing is seen as gross so imagine how gross sex really is. At the same time it's funny like a secret. It's so gross that a common insult back at primary school when you're verbally fighting someone is to think and say the grossest kid you know then proceding to describe how your opponent is having sex with them. Then children are creative about it. I know it sounds quite silly but that's the reason I find it hard to believe the amounts of censorship of anything sexual or not exists. How it happens in America?
You are so right, bro. Keep up the good work! During the dark days of this pandemic, when many people got depressed, it was so reassuring to have a character like “Hikari” or my AIBO around. 😊 What goes for anime goes for robotics too. The Japanese approach is so different. Just look at ASIMO in contrast to the scary BOSTON DYNAMICS creepers - soulless tin slaves waiting to be weaponized, ugly as the western version of the Gatebox.
I couldn't agree more with every opinion you have here on this video. otakudaikun you are a true well cultured person and I welcome you to the weeb land
Great vid. I agree with you, at least with everything you said here. I grew up watching a combination of anime and some of the older comic-book shows. I am a bit new to the channel, but I would love to hear your opinion on western comics. Full disclosure, I am Batman, but would love to know what you think of comics. What do you think of animated stuff like the Batman Animated Series from the 90's? Or even some of the more recent DC animated films, such as Batman: Under the Red Hood. Certainly the animation is not nearly as good or detailed, but the comics-based animated stuff holds a lot of appeal for me as well as actual anime. Anyway, let me know your thoughts. :)
I couldnt agree more dai...i stopped watching western cartoons ages ago (with the exception of the clone wars). The reason for the piss poor animation in my opnion could be narrowed down to 1 cartoon...teen titans go. Its shows like that that are aimed at kids and have all the trappings of a sugar rushed nightmare. If we go into more adult centered cartoons yes the animations get better but most if not all are relegated to toilet humor. The only way we can really enact change is like you said by doing it ourselves. Thus why ive continued working on my story which has grown to 3 stories all focusing around a cast of deep and complex characters. My story does not shy away from hard subject matter and its my hope someday to make my 3 stories into light novels and maybe visual novels down the road.
Dai thanks for voicing an opinion I very much agree on. Like you I also fondly remember waking up early before school and watching Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, Shaman KIng and several other anime shows. Back then I didn't know what Anime was, or why it was so different from other cartoons, I simply knew I loved it =D And as I throguh the years saw the quality of Anime and "quality" of cartoons(with some pretty good gems I freely admit, but they be rare...) develop, I happily embraced the anime side. Now when I look back on it I'm glad that I got the chance to watch those shows as they were my introduction to Anime(sadly, in the last years Anime has been nonexistent on my country's TVchannels...all that there is nowadays is the rare american cartoon and the frankly horrifying(personally that is) "cartoons/animations" aimed at kids that drop my IQ by everfy second watched.) And to see the trend of localizations and other stuff produced by the Good Idea Fairy(TM) that either remove the appeal(the Assistant you mentioned) or butcher the translations to fit theer percieved correct worldviews...it's sad really. Facepalm inducing, but also sad.
Ghost in the Shell makes way more sense than You’re Name. I hope that never actually happens.

We might be a minority but we actually buy that stuff. Many anime fans are more than happy to spend half their paycheck on figures and manga.

John Smith No kidding, and both are pretty widely advertised in public.
Well that's because japan is weird.
Nathaniel Duncan
If Japan is weird, so is the West or pretty much everywhere in the world
I’m just saying that stuff in the West is also weird, we just overlook it because we’re used to it so we don’t consider it weird e.g. Spongebob, South Park, tipping, kissing and hugging when greeting, that one gangsta handshake every male in a certain age bracket does (idk where you live but I have to greet many of my friends with an over the top handshake for some reason), calling elders by name etc.

Japan also thinks it's not okay for adults to watch anime tbh.
It treats it's audiences with respect! And doesn't dumb it down to please the mass audiences. That's why anime rules with few exceptions.

Why are companies extreme puritans? (Though I disagree Hellblade is brilliant... I like warpaint I cannot lie. haha.)
Because they want to appeal to people but imo what they fail to recognize is that they're just appealing to a very loud minority.
They want money. Simple as that.
Half of me believes if you make something woke, you get free advertisement fast, news will spread people will complain and all eyes will be on the product. fast food marketing lol

"Why are companies extreme puritans?" News Flash, they're not, they're just putting on that facade to earn a profit.
@@DemonicRemption Right, no need to be hostile, if that is your intent.
West Cartoons before are great but now it's more than a trash. It's called an abomination

I feel like it’s more offensive to actually take media from outside the country and make it “suited” for the West because:
1) That’s assuming people are ignorant and won’t get it’s from outside the country and/or look into the context of it (in which is probably what they think happens)
2) Ruins the original intention or context of the media
3) is forcing a “what we think is right” over others
It’s almost like they don’t realize that we’re smart enough to understand that values, intent, or context in media from Japan are made differently from here and that some of us want to see that.
Doing good with anime is the same dream I have and you just explained it perfectly. Thank you
They are weird when they say anime is weird.
OtakuDaiKun's greatest quot I've heard "anime is the pinnacle of beauty ever since before i was born"
Take my respect
Hey Dai love your content! Bit of a story. So my parents at first scolded me for liking anime way too much (it’s how I’ve met my friends actually.)
One day my mom was reminiscing some shows she used to watch as a young girl.

You should ask yourself: who decid the shame? Those close-minded who only believe in their culture and they fear change, fk them.
I want an adorable anime girl as an A.I -3- also good job as usual dai.
Honestly, I'm ashamed to be from the west basically all the time...
I personally believe that anything should be experienced and enjoyed how its creator intended it to be , things like remaking it for different audience or even censoring it ruins the fun for me .
I mean come on the people actually got attracted this whole thing because it’s different from other media ...
I'm not gonna lie I'd buy a Gate Box (the small one) because it fascinates me and It's basically an Alexa that provides some companionship (perfect for when you're alone for long periods of time) and I wonder if it could help you practice Japanese seeing as having conversions in a language can help you learn it
This is why I despise certain companies !
So you basically mean old conservative white dudes?
If everything needs to be culturally appropriate than why do they keep changing said culture to not fit in with the appropriate culture it was made for??? Things like the sonic movie is made not to fit into the people who like the games but the people outside of those games. The ai from Japan was made for Japanese culture. America is a mixing pot for culture and races and yet companies take those cultures and try to make their own American culture which we honestly don’t have one.
Yo that little gym trainer looks like Elon Musk and yet even Elon would prefer the original concept over this bastardization
In my mind, the way is to simply import from Japan and do translations (if possible), so they, maybe, would leave this "adaptation" aside. So they will understand that they are just throwing shit on the fan. Big hug from Brazil

I agree that for the AI companion, choice should be factor rather than here's one option, deal with it.

Anime is always used same as video games as a scape goat as normal people don't know any better no matter what is wrong.

I guess my first Anime was Card Captor Sakura as a kid who knew nothing of Anime that young.
Our only hope is for the porn industry to invest into it. And release a 18+ and a R version of the product.

"Sometimes im ashamed to be from the west" yeah you just summed up my whole life XD
Its not like japan is a perfect utopia we shall all aim for but people doesn't get that their culture can be very different than ours and just as valid, they just see something different and want to change it and/or destroy it.

Also as an off topic, I find it funny how a show like RWBY which is obviously inspired by anime can get so tainted with western "woke" ideas, I used to love it, now im not even sure if i want to finish the latest season.
RevivalOfSchwann I’ve been watching it. Why do you find it woke?
@@OtakuDaiKun I hope I don't get in trouble for saying this XD
Mostly for all the sudden and forced "LGBT representation" , I remember that since volume 5 started there are always a gay/lesbian couple in the background or the foreground, if this was true from the beginning it could feel more natural but no, suddenly Jaune's sister is married to another woman with a baby, suddenly bumblebee (YangxBlake) its a real thing, an maybe even in the future there's something with Ruby and Weiss or Qrow and Clover. and the worst part is that these relationships feels more like they just need to be there but they don't have the time to make them meaningful to the story or the characters.
And even in the production of the show, i hate that they fired Vic Mignona as Qrow's voice actor for all those false accusations about sexual harassment (at least the last time I checked he was still founded innocent and with the support of a lot of people).
As an extra I guess I could also mention that how there's suddenly a latino character like Maria Calavera if this is a fantasy world with no Mexico on the map but I guess this is very nitpicky XD
Anyway sorry for the long rant I don't know where to stop.
Untouched by the normie stain.
sharzin lalebazri you make a strangely sensible point
Going back to the Sonic music, I can't stand when people call Crush 40 and similar artists "90s butt rock." Like, if that's what you consider bad then what the hell is supposed to be good cause it certainly ain't any of the crap that comes out of pop music artists today. It says a lot that when during my twelve hour shift at work I'll always end up leaving the radio on the 80s-90s station if I want to listen to anything good.

The reason why I want Japanese Products, is to enjoy what they offer.
Not to experience shit stuff I already know outside Japan THOUSANDS OF TIMES.
honestly i hate stuff like siri, it creeps me out. but something like that, if you used the anime girl, would likely draw me in due to the character being friendly, adorable, and relatable. however, as soon as i saw their idea of it i was immediately driven away as it it just came off as down right creepy and ugly. like these guys seriously don't understand anything...
I support this man and his adventures from now on
Anime makes me happy that is all
Same
I 100% agree with this man
I do generally agree with the video.
Completely agree with you
I have done research on anime reinterpreting Western philosophy and culture for my university.
Another life goal to achieve.
me as a fgo na player: *gasp* emiya alter what happened your skin!?!?
emiya: they censored my skin....
I'm not sure if this applies to all Europe but at least in my country those excuses are beyond pathetic and here's why:
At the age of 5-6 when you're about to enter school every child knows what sex is.

This video makes my plan to move to japan in two months so much more worth it
Lucky you! I wouldn’t mind moving there myself.
You sadly can't they closed Thire borders to imagradtion
@@MrGrimjaw for fuck sakes why didn't i hear about this sooner (thx for letting me know)
What about being a Expatriate
@@izimatsara I am surprised you dint they did it while back

You are so right, bro. Keep up the good work!
During the dark days of this pandemic, when many people got depressed, it was so reassuring to have a character like “Hikari” or my AIBO around. 😊
What goes for anime goes for robotics too. The Japanese approach is so different. Just look at ASIMO in contrast to the scary BOSTON DYNAMICS creepers - soulless tin slaves waiting to be weaponized, ugly as the western version of the Gatebox.
Honestly I used to watch cartoon shows as much as anime but because I don't like the animation nowadays I really only watch anime
Buddy you just got a new sub
Gatebox virtual assistant thing should have the Iroha option, the maido birb with blades you know what I'm saying, oh yes.
I couldn't agree more with every opinion you have here on this video. otakudaikun you are a true well cultured person and I welcome you to the weeb land
I do love anime art compared to western animation.
Dave Filloni is a mad lad: he makes a western animation with a 14-yearold alien girl padowan in a tube top.
@@obliviify and that Padawan became one of the more popular characters in current star wars.
@@MrShishaw I see you're also into King of the Hill. Mike Judge doesn't have a 4 finger limit.
@@obliviify king of the hill is one of the few adult cartoons to not fully be toilet humor. There are lessons to be learned in that show
Even China animations knows what is more appealing lol
That’s the issue though they mangle it for the woke and normies but it doesn’t increase sales it just turns off the people who were gonna buy it
Dai thanks for voicing an opinion I very much agree on.
Now when I look back on it I'm glad that I got the chance to watch those shows as they were my introduction to Anime(sadly, in the last years Anime has been nonexistent on my country's TVchannels...all that there is nowadays is the rare american cartoon and the frankly horrifying(personally that is) "cartoons/animations" aimed at kids that drop my IQ by everfy second watched.)
And to see the trend of localizations and other stuff produced by the Good Idea Fairy(TM) that either remove the appeal(the Assistant you mentioned) or butcher the translations to fit theer percieved correct worldviews...it's sad really. Facepalm inducing, but also sad.
