I've had my '63 since '87. It's going to my Nephew who has been raving about your conversion kit. I don't know anything about electric cars but after watching this video, I feel less upset about the blaspheme of running electric in a classic bug.
Tremendous work ! I like how these cars are actually recycled and back into the 21st century !
From my point of view the manufacturers shoudl consider offering this kind of conversion to their old ICE cars instead of turning them into cubes.
I do not expect to happen though, so EV-West takes the lead !

@@donelmore2540 I was wrong they have $8.5k kits but the complete kits with batteries are $18k. Can't post links but look in the description of this video for the link to their website.. But year $32k might be about right for them doing the work

I looked at the catalog on your site but there is no mention of the bolt in battery box for the front or rear of the bug. This kit is well done, I love that there is no need for major modification of the car. May be putting one into my bug soon! :)

And one more top notch conversion rolls out of EVWEST. I like seeing how these cars perform with the AC setup available. This is the very first one in a heavier VW that I have seen actually run. Does the VW use a transaxle that has the 3.44 R&P gear? Very clean and tidy. Perfect. Now to get some fast charging into that little puppy. This looks like a very clean restoration and your part is totally clean. I think what others are wanting to see is how you do the gas tank battery box to replicate.

Hello, you guys are doing a great job. I would like to know more, for example: how many miles per charge you may get with the actual batteries in the beatle, and is it posible to shift without the clutch while the car is moving etc. If you have the chance please let know more about this things. What size battery pack did you put in this Bug?
I know this was a while ago, but do you know 1) the weight, did it go up or down? 2) the load distribution from front to back? 3) Did you have to mod the brakes or suspension? 4) Do you have to carry an extinguisher having the batteries in the cab with you? 5) How are the batteries in the cab held longnitudally against a frontal collision?
very interesting video, makes me marvel at how clean an EV conversion can be, would you ever consider using Lithium-polymer batteries for higher performance situations?

What type of batteries? I seen lead batteries used and the weight about killed the bug. AC motor or brushless DC? Liquid cooling? ESC not very efficient making heat? Fork lifts don't have cooling. Looks like good specs. More details please!

How much weight does this kit generally add to the car ? ? ?
What about the sound system that keys with the "gas" pedal to give it the VW sound.
It might junk the trans doing a burn out. That my question. Are they using the stock type 1 trans. If so the motor must ether be low powered or you just have to be careful with it. If I'm wrong please let EV West correct me here. I'm not knocking the kit. I love it and will be doing more research on it.

This is so freaking cool I can't stand it. I would also like to see a bus. Considering a new, "big-bore" efi air-cooled engine will set one back $8-10K, if I was ready to spend that kind of money on a new power-plant I'd seriously consider electric.

That's a GREAT question.
The original ac was just blowing outside air in through a channel behind the hood/in front of windshield. Heater is same process except the channel coils around engine for thermodynamic changes...the only control is an induction vent controlling air flow/psi therefore controlling output of heat not the temperature

That is totally cool! Have you by any chance ever done a Corvair? It seems that if there ever really was a problem with capsizing an electric conversion would probably solve that... :o]

I am not a fan of electric cars because I’m a classic car fan and hate to see them die...this is great will definitely be doing this when things go all electric...it’s interesting that you don’t have to use the clutch to put in gear. I am disabled and drive with my hands, it’s actually illegal for me to drive a manual, this sounds like it changed the game and the transmission no longer matters

You guys should of made the charge plug location come out where the normal filler spot for gas is.
It's a '63. The normal gas filler spot is on the tank under the hood.

My mom has a 63 bug sitting in Italy (original owner... original paint!). It's part of the family. She's thinking of importing it to Canada where we now live. Converting to electric could be in our future, although in all honesty, the sound of that car is a big part of its personality. I'm not sure how I feel about muting it...

Could you add solar panels to the roof to recharge?
Though that is possible, the amount of recharge you'd get for the surface area you have on a car wouldn't be worth it. In fact, the added weight would counter a lot of that too. Best would be to get panels for the house and charge at home.

Can U suggest someone who does rust & rubber seal trim on a bus? Say in the Santa Monica area or near there... I'll check U out on FB too. Yes you can buy a lit from their website, the guy says it in the video, the kit is just under $8K and range is 100 miles, which is plenty if you're staying in the city and use it to drive around town but use your normal car to do vacations

On 2nd thought. I can get a 1600 dual port for the price of the adapter plate. I could buy a complete running VW for the price of the motor. I like the technology but the price is hard to stomach on an old school VW.

1HumanRaceDotCom He's just walking up to the camera to stop filming, and then start filming near the bug. It just makes things easier as far as video editing goes.
Why don't you build a towable battery trailer so that the car doesn't have to have the physical weight and or danger that normally comes from having the battery bank inside the car? This would free up a lot more room in the vehicle for storage? As well it would take the danger out of the inside of the vehicle

well this was not much about the car but more about looking at you not the components and speed pickup, range etc...
