Thank You ! I have just started and I am excited as hell. I used to skate vert and for me this is the next best or even better thing, sorry to see you go Eddie, I appreciate the honesty. For some of us, my self included, flight is a lifelong passion, not just a hobby. I like the comment from @markmiranda2881 how he has quit and started up again. I can't believe how so many people are taking the remote ID thing so hard. I mean most FPV drone's batteries are discharged before anything can be done about the flight anyway. LOL.😆 Peace and Prosperity to all !

Yes, I mentioned this in a livestream the other day -- a lot of the regulars are starting to pivot to stuff like bikes, cars, etc. This is just a natural progression that can be observed in all fields of human endeavor. When something is new it is exciting and different. After a while, especially once the pace of innovation slows, it becomes "ho-hum" and many people go on to find their adrenaline somewhere else.
Another factor that can't be underestimated is the effect of ever-more restrictive regulation. Those freestyle drones you're flying will requite Remote ID in a few months and that's an additional cost.
The *best* days of the hobby were when this stuff was still new and we had *no* regulations to contend with. Every FPV video posted to UA-cam was something you watched multiple times and it was so cool to be a part of an elite group that actually did it.
We'll end up like skateboarding... At one time skateboarding was "the thing" and skateboarders were everywhere. Now, you still see skateboarders but they're just a small sport/hobby that competes with hundreds of other activities for people's time.

Xjet. Love your work and passion for the hobby! Funny because I just thought about the skateboarding analogy myself. Except in my view there were so many fpv’ers at parks that it started to get under the public’s skin not from a privacy perspective but from annoyance and safety stand point. Getting hit with a sub 250 full speed can injure you pretty good. I’m an RC heli guy for over 20 years and just last year bit the FPV bug with the introduction of the air 03 unit. I tried fpv in the past and just couldn’t get past the bad video. Fast forward 1 year later and I’m 5 quads in building #6. The learning curve is steep but I really enjoy so far.

I've pivoted a lot of times in my life through different things. I'm pretty much done. I'm sticking with FPV because I'm old and can't do a lot of stuff now. Through the years I've been hated by seemingly all the Karen's of the world or regulated into the ground by cities, states, feds! regulated so much it's ridiculous!! I'm holding the line with this one, I don't give a shit, I'll go to jail over it! I'm done taking any shit from anybody about anything!
I was a skater when it started here on the west coast in the 70s then I was deep into it through the hype of the 80s & 90s....
      People hated my guts!
I was a snowboarder when it started....
      People hated my guts!
I was an off-roader before it really took off. I've had quads, Jeeps, etc and I've been all over....
      People hated my guts!
I was a backpacker before it really blew up in its new modern way. I've been on some amazing adventures, trails in Idaho, Oregon, Utah, South Dakota, Arizona. I've done stuff like the Grand Canyon.
      People hated my guts!
I have been into FPV since it basically started....
      People hated/hate my guts!
Being an old Gen Xer I'm fairly prone to saying fuck off any way but now that feeling is at least 10x of what it once was!!
I don't know... I'm off the rails on this comment...See I'm fucking old!!
      Love you guys!! ✌️😎

RC Planes have also lost a lot of popularity, but the hobby wont die. Same thing will probably happen with FPV. I think those that come into the hobby just for the flying experience are the first to quit. RC planes have always been mostly about the build process; if you are getting other people to build your quads, any failure will result in frustration. For me when something fails I am almost happy because that gives me something to troubleshoot and fix.
Also, bigger quads are being regulated out of existence as you said. When you stick with the sub-50g stuff like tinywhoops you can fly them anywhere and its a lot easier. Moral of the story: Build your own tinywhoops and it will never get boring :-P

  • @alexdhuston
    @alexdhuston 6 місяців тому +6

I don’t fly my 5” much anymore… Too busy flying tinywhoops! It’s a lot smaller, but I spend more time flying and having fun.
Finding time to go out and fly was the hardest part of FPV for me, but whoops fly pretty damn good these days, and ripping 12+ packs a day for days in a row is a blast!

Everyone FPVs their own way man. Life happens. I've stopped and started over a bunch of times.
I do believe people are also uploading less and less willing to share their experiences with the world. Restrictions on law abiding pilots are getting harder and more expensive every day.
Best of luck in whatever you do man 👊🍻

It was good having you in the hobby. I've had my interest diminish a bit as well. I found trying new things within the hobby helps, for example I built a 3in toothpick 6 months ago and that really reignited the joy of flying for me. Not something that'll help you prolly, cause it looks like you're locked into the DJI ecosystem. If not it might be something worth trying. The smaller drones are cheaper to build and can be flown so many more places. My hdzero is my fav, but the Walksnail is a close 2nd. I have 14ish drones, from whoops to 9in, and nothing hit the same spot as the 3in toothpick. Being able to fly almost anywhere is so freeing it made a huge difference.

I guess coming from camera drones and going into Fpv really just started dipping my toe into the waters. I love doing collaborations with both camera and f. P. V. But I do see a slight decline mainly because What I think is the remote ID system. Everyone's very unsure of where that's going. So it's hard to spend thousands of dollars on something that might be outlawed or might require you to spend more money to upgrade to be able to fly. Which just about now everything has been pretty much well done.
Where already up to not even meeting really a secondary camera to film. Although if you do take a look back, even say a few years, there wasn't so many Meet ups and now there are alot.

I made the same "mistake" you did by buying an Avata. It just showed me that the FPV we are building sure a shed load faster and more expressive, but a major pain in the ass when it comes to flight time, battery charging etc. I am going to keep one 03 7" Chimera quad but the rest which comprise complete systems, goggles, controllers drones etc are on Facebook market place.

I think it’s easy to get caught up in the fun and hype and buy things you don’t really need and spend way too much building way too many drones. I’ve found a great sweet spot with 4 drones:
    75mm whoop
    2/3s 3” tp3
A 320gram 4s Grinderino that gives a little bit of fling.
And my newest experiment: Rekon35 custom build micro “long range”
It’s all analog and I LOVE my HDO v1 that I bought used.
I find this keeps my whole setup cheaper and easier to maintain and I can fly in more places. To each their own, but keeping things realistic and reasonable has helped keep this hobby fun.
It DOES suck when they’re all broken and I’m stuck waiting on parts

I have 5 drones total. Only really fly one. Others are what I call backup drones. In all honesty if my main rig brakes. "the more stuff you have the less you use it" is one of the most true statment I've heard for this hobby. I am cash rich and time poor. I have so much stuff, that when the opportunity arises, I'm daunted by the choice and then I don't fly.
Having a little bit of kit and having it always ready is the best advice I would give.
I feel the same about FPV as you do, but wish I didn't. Maybe I will just leave the Avata in the trunk of my car and then be ready to fly whenever, and not feel too snobby about using a tx16s and full acro.... just enjoy the view.

Your video was a suggested video, but i am glad I watched it and I feel ya but differently in a way. I too am a 6s guy. The power is great and I love the feeling of flying, but time as well as lack of space to fly it in my town has left my 6s quad hanging on the wall for the last 16 months. I also have a wing I built that I haven't flown in nearly 2 years. The local county ordinances are pretty straight forward with anti-RC aircraft signage, but I made acquaintance with the parks department guys and was allowed to fly there. After 2 years of that one spot, it became redundant and boring, hence the hiatus from flying. I also feel you on the stick issue..trying to remember how they are set up. I haven't had Betaflight on this new computer since I moved to it last February and my ELRS is probably a shit show by now trying to remember how I set that all up and updating everything. Good luck to ya. hoping for the best for what ever you decide to move to and glad I ran across this video. Life is too short to not enjoy it your way.

I just love this hobby... And I build more and more (now I have 20 qwads), for me I have always fun flying them. But the difference, is that, I do it for myself, and not "creating content" for others (first I have to satisfy myself)... Of course, if I want an easy way to create content, I will jump for something "easy" to manage, without any challenge... I moved out from DJI FPV and Avata, just because it sucks (you are limited to the system created by them) and there is no challenge to make something great... But just my opinion, I will keep going with my self building stuff 😊 (the plan is to build 4 qwads per year, and always adding new features)...

Always have been a fixed wing guy but got into quads for about a year. Was fun and different and enjoyed building but quickly became bored of it. I get why having too much is not good. I have 12 planes and fly only 2 of them because it’s just too much work to stay on top of all of them. As for the video, it’s definitely not cinematic here in Southern Ontario!!

I been flying for over a year. I've deff seen a decline in the last year. I think people are realizing unless you're going to be constantly traveling or have insane skills, its a limited hobby as far as content potential. Not to mention it's super niche so the community is small. And also not many American companies in this space and buying things overseas is a huge pain. For most people like myself dont really care about the mainstream and still enjoy the hobby but I can see how from a business perspective there isnt much opportunity there unless ur a dedicated videographer. I've since expanded into rc cars and planning on making my rounds to explore all of them land, air and sea. Even RDQ has started selling rc cars too so i think i may be right. Nice hat btw 👍

F… the hype! Hype matters for people wanting to show off and gain attention by doing something “new”. If you like flying, you like flying and you won’t quit unless some force majeure makes you quit. I suspect that all those UA-camrs are quitting is because the main reason they were doing videos with FPVs is because they monetized them. And of course, as a tech reporter your job is to show always new stuff… so I believe their real passion aren’t FPVs but making and monetizing videos.

No not really. A lot of my friends are just getting into it and it's really getting fun watching them all grow. I am starting my channel in testing these so called top products. Reason why is I feel the struggle in sinking money into it and getting bad products. I think it is here to stay for a while and I want to ride that wave to be honest. Now I did think that building FPV drones would be a replacement for my DJI fpv and Avata but it is not and I have them in my collection for use. Main problem I have is the stuff that is made popular to be the best is in reality the worst. There are a few companies that seem to be doing it right and DJI is really terrible in FPV air units for building drones. I am still hyped, excited and loving it. But I am hoping my social media present builds. There will always be some who have passion and drop out but others will take over and strive to help the community and be focused in moving into those spots. I am here to stay for a while. Yes I hit that frustration point and now I am past it.

I’m just looking into getting into FPV. For me I want to be able to make my own drone and fly it. I might want to get into trying to make it into a fake DJI that can do more while still getting good footage.
For reference I already have a Mavic air 3. It’s a great drone. I just want to start getting into the hobby aspect of it. I have a 3d printer so I want to get into the weeds making a cool drone I can call my own.

Not sure I agree with community thing. Based on what I see on Reddit and Bardwell's live streams, there are new people getting into hobby all the time asking for help. Living in SoCal, I can relate to the challenges when it comes to finding places to fly. We have to drive 30-40 minutes. We're so congested. People are everywhere. Most parks are not good choices unless you go so early and bounce when all the strollers and kids show up. I see a lot of flight footage from people in other parts of the country that fly around elementary, middle, and high schools on weekends (I'm assuming). Out here, schools are gated. You just can't walk onto the property. We don't really have a lot bandos because buildings get leveled and redeveloped pretty fast. Office parks can be good if security doesn't kick you out. But with all those challenges, we do our best. I have time but finding others to fly with has been hard since we're so spread out. Flying alone is boring and leaves you exposed. You don't know if anyone is approaching you or what their intentions are.

As a hobby fpv is a nightmare, the 3 parts to fpv are building/repairing, flying for fun, and filming- some people seem to enjoy soldering and tuning more than then enjoy actual flying, that’s not me at all, I hate building, and I’m terrible at soldering so I hate making repairs too, but it’s an inevitable part of flying that you will crash and break something eventually, which is frustrating and costly, the other day I had a fail safe and lost the drone and go pro, it was very lucky I managed to find it without gps. Just flying for fun is exhilarating but if you actually want to use the footage for anything it doesn’t really cut well with any other footage, and for the footage to be exciting to watch you have to take big risks ljke flying close to things, this makes you more likely to crash and ultimately there is no other method of filming that puts so much expensive gear at risk vs the shots you can get. Fpv needs to get more inclusive and simplify things a lot, we need smarter batteries we can just plug in and not worry about them, we need a simplified version of betaflight, we need no solder builds, and we need position hold. I learn to fly using the dji fpv and as a film maker I just maximised my time on improving my flying instead of trying to work out why my crossfire isn’t working today when it worked perfectly yesterday 😭 I also got out of using my 5”, preferring the tiny whoops, and quiet 3” drones, I think everyone looks at the 5” as the default but I don’t know why, they’re crazy powerful, loud, and just way too much more most people who aren’t a freestyle pilot

    • @MrEddieNunez
      @MrEddieNunez  6 місяців тому +1

You spoke the absolute truth here. I am also terrible at repairing and you are right - to capture exciting shots you must take risks. I love 5” quads over any other even with the loud sounds.

This right here explains the big spike and drop off in users interest in this hobby. A lot of camera guys jump in this hobby thinking its easy and quickly lose interest after realizing all the responsibilities that have nothing to do with video. You can have a dedicated FPV pilot as part of a film crew, but not the other way around. What you're describing you want is the DJI Avata. The building, repairing, flight planning and tinkering is the core of the fpv hobby. Actually flying is only like 10%.

No I'm not giving up it's been four years now and I'm finally getting ready to race. A lot of people burn out after 10 years in a sport I used to windsurf at a high level in surf. Almost everyone left the sport now. Only the hard-core are left. If you burn out take a break. I use the sim a lot because it's soo, easy no batteries to c, arge and worry about storage charge. For me, the weather is keeping me from flying more. It has been crazy windy this year.

But when I watching mini 3 pro can be paired with goggles 2, the more I search about HD Fpv, its sucked me until I bought G2 & pavo pico and I commit to sell all my FPV analog drones. I tell my self not to buy more and more drones, just stick with small drones for small park and small long range (4inch). My life was to busy and I just lazy pilot to be honest, I need the simple drone to have.
