I am never disappointed whenever I watch one of your videos. Informative, compressed just enough to keep things flowing smoothly and interestingly (ie, the way you move through the boring shit in fast motion where others leave in the part where they do things like moving parts around or turn every damned screw, beginning to end. It's very much appreciated that you don't). I like the incorporation of the old footage, and the brilliantly dry and sometimes dark sense of humor is like the cherry on the sundae! I salute you, Sir! You are one of life's winners. Congratulations and continued success!
Tony...as a youth my father owned an Ornamental Wrought Iron Shop. He purchased a Hossfeld Bender with a gob of Dies. He mounted it on a Custom Stand he Built for it. What was really cool was he Fashioned it to a Hydraulic Ram & Electric Pump! With just the Pull-of-a-Lever much of the tedious Labor was removed. Thanks Dad!
Tony you always make me chuckle. "Drove my truck into the utility pole" and "made the legs to short to touch the ground". That's just funny as fug! Thanks.
Watched the video exactly 300 times, I have now successfully been enlightened and have acquired complete understanding of the entire universe. Thankyou This Old Tony.
The random clips of hokey mid-century instructional/promotional videos somehow really fit your style. I'm not even mad you didn't punch any blocks of metal in two :)
It's nice to watch a craftsman at work. What some people may not realize is the hours you have devoted to your craft. In any craft, the fun only begins after lots of research, trial and error, and a ton of devotion. So many young people today, are oblivious to the sacrifices of a true craftsman. Thanks for the video.
Within 24 hours of finding your channel, you my friend have become my new favorite UA-cam content. Cool funny production, and I’m learning a ton of stuff!
Incredibly informative and entertaining! This one goes into my, "How To" saved folder. I especially admire your thorough dedication to safety in making sure the lathe isn't live.
Great video! Would love to see more on how you use your Hossfeld bender and your homemade dies! Just got one and had no clue on how to use it until I was directed to this channel, so thank you again!
Thank you for all your videos i am a locksmith and commercial fisherman from washington state. I learn alot from you and am excited to keep learning. Thank you so much for sharing yourself
Great Video! Your reproduction of a Hossfeld bender is spot on! I own a number 2 hossfeld and use it for railing and furniture projects. I made a hydraulic attachment that rotates an arm every 45 degrees and locks in with pins. Still dialing it in, when it's done I'll have to post a video on it! great to see more coverage of this machine!
When you were showing your bending units, I was honestly expecting you to say lastly “...and this is my bending unit from Mexico...” and show Bender Rodriguez! Perhaps you could edit it in, it’s never too late for an extra humorous element! Thanks for the entertaining, amusing, educational insightful experience!
You got to be the best shop teacher in the world. Why don’t you teach in school? Wish you were my shop teacher.Keep up the great video.I will watch all your videos, thanks!!!!
This was the first video that the UA-cam algorithm took me too... The difference from this too today is massive and I thought your old videos were amazing. Good to see the progress and 1 million Subs in sight I recon :)
Lots of audio clipping/popping. +1 for MST3k and Classic Industrial Films! Your videos are the biggest source of joy in my subscription feed. Please setup a Patreon, sell t-shirts, or some other swag, so I can give you my money.
As a tinkerer, I am envious of your shop setup. When I do some light bending, I have a scrolling fork I clamp in my bench vise, and an assortment of bits of scrap wood and a selection from my hammer boutique, to finish the job. Oxyacetylene to marry things up, at the end. For me, pickling is for herring. ;-) I enjoyed your video. Thank you.
Totally speechless !!! This is hands down one of the best educational videos I've ever watched !!!! I truly and sincerely appreciate & thank you for making this video and sharing your knowledge !!!! Just starting to try as no learn bending and thought I was never gonna find anything useful on UA-cam and BOOM !! Your video pops up & changes everything!!!! = instant subscriber .... THANK YOU !!
The fact that you got offended enough to comment about it is sad. I mean, you would spend every waking second of your life defending the incorrect use of "gods" name in the comment section of UA-cam alone, never mind it being used everywhere else.
Glen: kinda like you taking the time to reply and wondering about his offense right? Many of us are offended at ppl who use Gods name that way....He died for us!!!
I think he was talking about Jesús Hernández, he lives near my house. If you want to feel offended, well, it's his parents' fault, José and María. Good folks, just a bit superstitious.
I've been watching several metal makers on YTB for some years, but just recently found your channel, and I want to tell you Tony, your contents, your explanations, the editing and the humor are top notch. Great job and thanks for sharing this.
Yet another tool I'll have to make to keep up with the Tonys. I got myself a keyboard and am practicing thriller music and now will learn to play blacksmith and bender music. Very entertaining occupational therapy watching your videos.
Even now, years later, I watch this video and a small party of me wishes TOT ended all his videos by making a piece of metal to complete a sentence, just like they did.
Hey Adam -- yep, shop-made. Google "hossfeld bender plans", there are a ton out there. FYI, since I'd wager you'd probably be bending some big stuff, the hydraulics are an add-on, just a cylinder that does the pushing. Basic machine is the same.
my hossfeld I beefed up the hydraulic arm to 1/2" thick but mounting a hand control spool valve on the handle saves the assaches of chasing a footpedal
The demonstration of use of the Hossfeld reminds me of the antique bending tool I kept in my toolbox during my decade and a half career as a spring maker. Although it could be held in one hand, thereby looking like a toy version of the Hossfeld, it was perfect for making forms out of music wire up to .125". The forms would then be mounted to sliding tool holders with the form tools to maintain squareness, ensure consistent tool engagement or part clearance. I was very hesitant to use the bender due to it's 50's manufacture date, but it became so useful I never regretted putting it to use.
Love the humor and the tips. How about welding a socket on the end of your lathe roller stock tool. Then you could have a ratcheted handle to turn the lathe.
The information on the bender was so much more interesting than the plant pot (sorry:), and your dry sense of humour is priceless :-) Many thanks for another great production Tony !
Fantastic video! Had the opportunity to use a Hossfeld bender extensively a long time ago, it is a exceptional tool. I am now using a similar bender made in China, it does the job but not near as well as a Hossfeld. Thank you for the video.
Oddly enough it doesn't sound like clipping. What I think it may be is his video editing software may have tried to synchronize the other video he had from the old demos and they had a timing skew, so it may have inadvertently stretched his primary video causing audio cuts that weren't on 0 crossings.
Sorry about that! ipullstuffapart might be onto something. the sound 'looked' fine in the editor. I heard the popping but thought it was my fantastic computer speakers.

Really enjoy your videos. I find myself laughing a little to loud at your sense of humor, which gives away that I am not working. Sounds like I am listening to Alan Alda.
Hey don't apologize for the voice over part... I found it the best part of the video. It's better quality sound, it's edited to smoothness, gets right to the point, whereas the live audio scenes tend to ramble or drag on, (Please don't take offense, I'm just trying to offer an individual viewer's perception). Great video. A bender would be a great addition to my everlast welder. I'm just building up the tool arsenal!
