This video is about the Harbor Freight compact bender. Since the instructions weren't very clear on how to use the 90 degree angle adapter that comes with the bender. I wanted to get a video up explaining how to put into the bender.

Thank you sir! This really helped me. The instructions that the bender came with are not useful; your video is really easy to follow.
I've watched a number of videos and was just as clueless after watching, UNTIL, I watched yours. Thank you so much.
I took pictures of your set up with my phone to keep handy.
I'm going back to my shop now and bend some metal.
Thank you very much. I just received my bender an hour ago and couldn't figure out the right hand bend for the life of me. Like you said the instructions are a waste of ink and paper. I watched your video and understood it right away.
Thanks again
Dude thank you. This was tweaking my brain trying to make shelf brackets and your set up was like a light bulb turning on. 👍🏼
Great set up demo, I have this bender and was trying to figure the set up when I came across your video. Thank You!
From a novice point of view. This is a well done tutorial... I truly thank u!!!
Hey Scooter, I took one look at the instructions on my similar Eastwood bender and lunged for someone on here to explain it better. I really appreciate you!
Nicely done! First 90 I could really see well enough to know what was going on. Thanks!
I've watched this instructional video every time I do square type bends. I've decided to print off your set up and laminate it and post it next to my bender, just for the screwed up way it has to be set-up!
I saw, on another fellow's video, where he removed all the wire handles and painted the pins and 90 degree attachment, FIRE ENGINE RED, so I did that. It helped things. Then I made a rack and welded it to the left side of the column, to hold the various pins and other attachments. Then I found a machine shop that would make some more bending dies, and started at 3 1/2" and went up to 6" diameter and removed tge rack from its original location, and put it in the front and the big rack on the side where the little rack was and a pin on the back side to hang the handle when not being used. Then I welded a piece if square tubing at a bit of an angle, as a receiver and gave a slip out rack 4' long to adjust the level of the stock, when using a long stick. Hopefully you can utilize this info to beef-up yours.
Thanks for the info
Awesome idea
Respect for wearing the best overalls known to man. Can’t beat the Liberty.
Thank you - I purchased mine a decade ago and the directions are of no help. I never would have figured it out - thanks!
I know this video isn't new but thanks for posting this, it's exactly what I needed today
Thanks for the detailed explanation I wasn't going to buy the Bender because it didn't say it can bend 90°, it only says round so I'm glad you explained it.
I needed this function a short while back and was baffled how to set it up. Thank you for making it simple. I typed out instructions and will keep it with the bender. I use this tool only occasionally and this tutorial will be very helpful in the future. 👍
Thank you, Scooter. I was on the fence about whether this would do what I needed to do, and after watching this video went out and bought one. Worked just like you demonstrated, and I sure wouldn't have been able to do this from the instructions alone! They don't make any doggone sense at all.
I’ve had this thing set around the shop for years instructions sucked I couldn’t figure it out so I give up on it I finally decided after needing a piece bent and I was going to get it out give it another try your video was the first one I came to and it was a great help thank you sir very much.
Don't give up!
Thanks for the demonstration! Now I get it. That tool can be used for a sharp sudden bend, any angle, instead of a sweeping radius bend. And I could save money with a coupon!
Thanks buddy! 🇺🇸👍
Thanks brother! I bought a mixer from harbor freights and the instructions were crap. I figured it would be the same for other tools. You saved me from the same headache!!!
Thanks, I have extensively used one of these HF benders for 12- 15 years. Absolutely an indispensable and fabulous shop tool for DIY builders/welders. The soft metal stock pins with my unit rapidly bent with use and I replaced them with grade 8 hitch pins from commercial suppliers. However, the 90 degree strap metal bender was a mystery to me. I could set up the others bends and dies in a flash, but not that one. Thanks for the informative video!
A
Can it be used to bend rebar, or just flat stock?
I SURE DO WANT YOU TO KNOW, I APPRECIATE THAT VIDEO!!! You're absoputely correct! The instructions were less than vague!!! I must have stuck that wedge in there 50 ways. I actually came to figure, that they had put that wedge piece in there by mistrake!!!😄 By you setting it up, now I see how it goes. I like my Harbor Freight Bender...it was just learning how far to leave the stock sticking out and how much it was going to drag in there with it, when it made a bend! There wasn't a shred of info in the instructions to tell me any of that! I appreciate you, young man!!!
Thanks so much for this totally straightforward video. I have the exact same bender which has been SITTING for 6 months because I couldn’t figure it out! 👍
You're welcome, glad you got something out of it. I hope you get your bender out and start making things.
Scooter Rat do you have any more videos showing how to use all those other sized round dies and the square “block” piece also?
@@azeronephotography7194 Not yet, I'll get some up next time I use it.
Thank you , I needed to refresh after 10 years of not using mine..
Nicely done. This shows well how to set up the machine for doing angles. Thank you.
That was way easier than the POS instructions from harbor freight. Thanks a bunch!!
Just found your channel, Great demo and instruction! I've had one of these HF benders on my radar for a while, just waiting for one of there big blow-out sales. These H style benders are very versatile, the do take up some shop space however. Enjoyed the video.....hitting the subscribe button. Keep-um Coming,
ATB -Dean
Thank you for this. I got one of craigslist with no instructions. Was trying to figure out the right angle on my own.
You're welcome, even with the directions it was difficult to figure out.
Bro thank you for making this I couldn’t find anything either
Great description and visual aid on how to setup and use the right angle bending attachment block. The instructions from Harbor Freight do show the first step in installing the block, but another picture would have helped to show the block installed. The instructions do not show proper use of the handle hole and die setup and that is where I was absolutely lost. Your video provided that answer. I am still wondering why it is called a "right angle" attachment since it bends way past 90 degrees and cannot be considered a stop for sure.
Thank you for tour video on the 90 degree bender its by far the best on UA-cam it helped me alot thank you again sir
You're welcome, and thanks for watching.
Oustanding! huge thanks bro, I've been trying to work this out for months!
Best instructions on the web!!! Cheers!
Thanks for the video....First one I've seen that explains it properly. Now I understand it !!
Thanks very much , this was very very helpful . All the best , Johnnie C . Nova Scotia .
Thank you for the video was just in the shop trying to figure that out gave up and this was the first video I came to 👍👍👍
You're welcome, glad it helped.
very good clip coming to the essential what you need and no fuss around and agonizing side stories.
Ha mine sitting for 15 years and forgot ho to do.
Chris Schmidt
Thanks
Great job scooter on explaining how to do it. Very precise tyvm
Thanks for stopping by my channel, I like doing some medal working and car stuff too ! I look forward to what you are doing! Regards BobLee
Thanks
Thanks for the no BS How to..... lost the instructions as well this helped refresh my memory.
Thank you for the video. Just bought one and was wondering how to use that piece.
Thanks so much. I have a Klutch (Northern Tool) that is identical. The instructions are useless. You just helped me!
I agree instructions supplied are really poor, but this video is great, thank you .
You mean the Harbor Freight instructions were not clear and spelled out? Well I struggled with the 90s bend, but your presentation was clear and great. Thanks!!
That little hole on the arm I use it to insert the small stop that comes with the kit. I place it upside down under the stationary arm and sandwiched by the swing arm in order to stabilize the swing arm and keep it from rising and interfering with the block or the 90 degree angle die.
thanks, its exactly what I was looking for. well done
Thanks
Thanks for going to the trouble to make this video. It helped a lot.
You're welcome
Just what I was looking for. Thanks.
Thanks for the clear explanation and demonstration :)
You're welcome
APPRECIATE the video - Harbor Freight instructions are not clear!
awesome im fixing to make some stuff. I thank you for your video.
Your video was a Godsend!! Thanks a million!!!
Thanks for showing us how. Nice beard too!
Thank you for sharing great tips and tricks
Thanks! I've had my bender for a few years. Like it a lot, but no instructions/clue how to use the 90 degree attachment until now.
You're welcome it took me an hour or so to figure it out.
Super helpful. Thanks man
Very very helpful. Thank you from Michigan.
great tutorial thank you for you time and great information
Thanks, now I know what I was doing wrong. My bender is too close to the wall and could not get the lever far enough back. Thanks M8.
You're welcome
Great vid 👍
Thank you sir! You informative and polite and help us DIY on a budget guys. I’m looking to start making some fabrications for atvs and SxS like body protection parts and whatnot. Can you explain what other than 90° bends are done with this tool please? I’m considering buying it and maybe a metal brake to bend thin diamond plate sheet metal and expanded mesh for my projects and I’m new to fabrication. Thank you again!
Awesome, good luck on you business venture.
Great video man! Thanks for making it.
THANK YOU! The manual picture was not making sense
very nice Thanks for the info
Do they only do 90 degree? Nevermind, stupid question
Thanks for the instruction!
Will this bend rebar? ½"-¾"
THANKS, that is a clear explanation and demonstration of how to use the bender for tight radius bends.
Will the tool work 1/2" or 3/4" square bar? (without heat)
1/4 inch I do believe is the max thickness for this bender.
Good ideas my brothher 👍👍🤝indonesia 🇮🇩
I have basically the same bender sold by KAKA Industrial (model MUB-1). The flat die on mine did not contact the fulcrum pin when I set it up as you demonstrated. It also shipped with 3 long pins (no short pin included) so I will need to modify one. Has anyone else encountered this issue and is there an alternate setup for this manufacturer?
Thanks for the info recon
you're welcome
I bought one and it said there was a "Twist attachment" but I have not seen it anywhere... Does anyone know how to get the attachment?
Thanks Scooter!
Very good video man. Good Job
Thanks
Thank You Sir! Very Helpful.
You're welcome
Thank you so much for posting a video on how to use this thing. Could you please tell me what is the width of the dies, and therefore the maximum stock width that it can bend? Is it 2" (or 1"+15/16")?
The manual says 1 and 15/16 max width. I mostly use 1/2 to 3/4 wide material.
Good instructional. Thanks
Thank you!
Good Video. 👍
Thanks
Now I know...thank you
I'm concerned about mounting this. I saw a video where it was clamped (could be bolted) to a pallet. What do you think?
I have mine mounted using red head drop in anchors. I used 1/2 by 13 thread and used the appropriate anchor epoxy to help secure the anchors. www.redheadanchoring.com/products/drop-in-anchor.
ua-cam.com/video/t6eENSixo94/v-deo.html
I would not recommend clamping or bolting this to a pallet. With the forces required to bend metal the bender needs to be mounted securely. I chose these anchors so I could unbolt and store the bender out of the way when I wasn't using it. I cut and used some all thread and cut a slot in one end to use as a plug to keep dirt building up in the anchors. And the plugs are flush to the floor so they are not a tripping hazard.
Will this only bend bar stock? Or will it bend metal rods/ tubing?
This bender is for bending bar stock, flat bar, and round. This bender would just crush or kink tubing. I have a JD Squared bender for tubing.
Excellent instruction 👍
Thank you
Great video mate.......Cheers
Would it be possible for me to make a bender like this with a powertig welder and a plasma cutter?
Probably, it would be more economical to purchase one though.
Se consigue en colombia?
Thank you Scooter Rat. You’re a Gentleman and a Scholar. Did you mount it to the ground, if so do you have a video doing that?
You're welcome
Can this bender bend tube? Where are those attachments, did it come with any?
This bender is only for solid stock. It comes with an assortment of radius dies and the 90 degree bender.
I did subscribed too ! 😂
Will this work with hollow round pipe like 1/2 inch ?
Just flat bar and round bar. I have a JD Squared Model 32 bender to do tubing and pipe.
hey Scooter, this was the best video i have watched on this bender. Being a ENT surgeon i needed this kind of video to grasp this instrument. do you have other videos. sitting in Africa how do i support you.
Thanks for the kind words. I take donations through PayPal at the moment www.PayPal.me/Scooterrat
hey scooter, all these places want a credit card or debit card. we use a cellphone to do everything these days. banks are of no use where i come from and that is Kenya. We do everything with our mobile device on the mpesa platform. Its going to be difficult for me to send you some cash, but what do you think about if i ask a friend in the US to send you some cash on my behalf. i am 56yrs old, and i am just trying to keep up with technology
nice and clear.. ty
You're welcome
Does anyone one know if I can buy the parts so I can also bend tubing?
@@madstrad123 yes they sell the set to bend tubing..... check the web
@@madstrad123 I don't think they have anything to bend tubing for this bender. I have a JD Squared Model 3 to bend tubing. I also have the tubing roller from harbor freight. The tubing roller isn't all the great from Harbor Freight. I also have the 16 ton pipe bender from HF. It's for pipe not tubing and I get mixed results with it depending on the wall thickness. Plus it uses a bottle jack that takes forever to make bends. The JD Squared bender does half inch to 2 inch with various radius depending on the dies you order.
can you still buy this attachment the new ones in the store do not have it???
You'll have to check at the store.
What size the bar you can use ? ? 3/8. Or 1/2 ?
I think it's rated for up to 1/4 stock. I rarely work with anything that thick.
Great thank you 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
Good Video Thanks
Looks like those first 3 holes match the 3 on the U shaped arm. They both have 2 large holes with smaller one in middle.
The different holes are for setting up the different sized radius dies for bending and adjusting for material thickness.
How did you mount your bender
I used female 1/2 inch concrete anchors to bolt it to the floor. And to keep the dirt and debris out of the I used some 1/2 all thread to make plugs to screw into anchors so I wouldn't be tripping on studs sticking out of the floor when I wasn't using the bender. You will also need a 5/8 masonry bit to install the anchors. You can also buy the tool to set the anchors. An appropriate sized punch will also set the anchors. To help ensure they stay inlace I also used a concrete epoxy to help hold them in place. The link shows the ones I used. Home Depot or Lowe's carries these too.

Can this bend copper tubing or just flat stock?
just flat and round stock
Thanks!!
you're welcome
Is there a way to bend a spoon with this?
It'll bend all kinds of radiuses, if you are asking if it will shape the spoon part, it won't.
will this work to bent pipes???
You'll need a different type of bender to do pipe with. I have a JD Squared Model 3 bender to do pipe and tubing. The bender in this video is designed to bend flat square and round stock.
How do you use the other holes?
You use them with the other diameter dies that come with the bender and to adjust for the thickness of material you are bending.
