Tony, that was absolutely brilliant, and I love the way you are collaborating with other UA-camrs. The introduction was a wonderful tribute to the Wintergaten Marble Machine video. It reminded me of one of my first favorites of yours - 'Making Springs at Home', which riffed on the 'How it's Made' theme. The ending was a tribute to the Shawshank Redemption film, if memory serves me well. Very well done, and I can't wait to see what you dream up next!
You totally know Inspector Gadget the movie is the greater than greater movies of all times. Then there's the bestest movie of all time "Bruce Campbell vs Army Of Darkness"
I've never found a channel that I've liked so much in my life. I'm an engineering student and love doing design. This Old Tony has taught me a ton about machining and metal working, so much so that at 19 I have just bought my first metal lathe. Its only a south bend 8 incher from 1932, but with it I'm already putting to use things I've learned from this channel. So thanks a ton for what you do and for every video you produce.
Actually physically building things in the shop will make you a MUCH better engineer. So many engineers have lots of theory but no practical experince.
1:51 "At the rate he's going, the MMX will be finished tomorrow" Me: Ah, the days when people thought the MMX was going to ever be finished, I miss those days.
The fact that one of my favorite UA-camrs commented on a video of one of my favorite UA-camrs making parts for one of my favorite UA-camrs is phenomenal!
A few days ago an innocuous video showed up in my suggested feed about French Polishing a piece of burl wood, most likely as a result of my incessant watching of guitar building videos. That video was one of only two woodworking videos on that channel, but still I decided to delve deeper and discovered an amazing channel with a madman building a clock with tools he made himself. Eventually I managed to binge that entire channel, and what did I find on the last upload? A comment about another channel uploading a video referencing the clockmaker. So I did a quick search which lead me to this video. I sat and watched, and realized that in the last two days I had managed to discover two awesome new channels that will destroy what little financial stability I have as I am subdued into investing in metalworking tools to fulfil a new desire to explore this field. TLDR; Take my sub
I love how TOT is shy of 400k subs but most of his videos have 300 k views which means that the people that subscribes to his channel actually sees his content AWESOME
If somebody had told me a few years ago that I would be sitting here crying with laughter watching a guy machining sprocket shafts... This is better than 95% of tv anywhere on the planet. You sir are a genius :)
all your videos are jewels, but this one is of unrivaled quality. the intelligent information, the humor and creativity, the recording and editing...this old tony is truly credit to humanity.
This old Tony, you are a genius. Super entertaining and superbe editing. I hope one day, sitting on a couch and whatching discovery channel with my son, i could say : '' son, see this man doing this machining stuff? It's This Old Tony, and i know him since he was doing UA-cam videos''
I can't believe it! The moment you said who has time to clock in a 4 jaw Abom appeared in my head, just to have it cut to him a second later! I laughed way more than I should have. TOT, I don't comment much on videos but I love what you do.
Something funny is. I had to deliver a work piece (a camera adapter for a telescope, next day we had the eclipse!) so i had to make it fast. My lathe has a centrifugal starter switch and the spring that makes contact broke, i didn't had time to get a replacement so i ended up removing the centrifugal switch and used a screwdriver to bridge the two wires, then i immediately removed the screwdriver as soon as i heard the lathe spool up to speed. A couple of times i was too slow and the motor made a frightening buzzing sound ( i do not recommend doing this unless is an emergency, also never do it if the lathe is too large or operates above 240V, doing this on a large lathe for example with a 440V motor would be very dangerous! it arcs very badly with 220V already). But job got done in time, later i was able to get a replacement starter, now im thinking in upgrading it to a VFD unit. So when he did that in the video i was laughing my ass off.
Well Martin is getting close I think. Since he's managed to ditch the as much as 600 custom pieces he needed to make. For the clock escapement and new marble divider.
OMG! it's like Christmas has come early when I open my iPad to find that two of the very best UA-cam creators have collaborated on a video, I haven't watched it yet but I just know it's going to be amazing! Thank you so much. EDIT after watching.. Outstanding, I aplaud your creativity!

How much planning and thought went into the story line of this video? I mean the communication, and the making of a giant arrow, it seems like a lot for a little part of the story line. I'm really impressed by how far you'll go just to pack one more piece of awesome, and for that I subscribe.
Totally agree guys. But keep in mind he also still has a full time “day” job. Unless he quit it, which I doubt. A family too, being a dad and a husband is job #3. Tony has a brilliant mind, and never ceases to amaze and delight!
Like robin said in a comment or two b4 this one: “u keep getting better and better tony”. Add in the fact he’s got the “Wilson” on home improvement thing going, but no face instead of half...... Brilliant! Pls someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe there’s only one vid he pops his mug into the frame and speaks.. Keeping that ”headless” persona up so long even after the channel has blown up so big is damn clever... wonder how many similar “you tubers” have thought: “why the hell didnt I think of that?” Hahaha!
'Ello. Welcome back to where I will be continuing my 900-episode series on the mysterious, ancient MMX machine. To make things interesting, I'll be skipping my extradimensional fabricators and using the same tools the ancient This Old Tony would have instead. Of course, I'll always love an excuse to do some manual material removal with my psionic abrasives. Well, lets get started!

And its because of folks like you, and abom that give me the confidence to set up my own machine center in my automotive shop and try to repair parts, make parts and generally be more capable and diverse than i was before. thanks for all the inspiration brother
When I saw the video title I really expected to see you start turning a crank and a music following it... YOU DIDN'T DISAPPOINT ME!!! Respect and admiration Tony!
Well played my friend, Well played. As a fan of all the channels that played roles in this production, I have to say that this was one finely played out piece of entertainment. I must say that the way it is done from start to finish was excellent. Korny and entertaining, I'm not sure who the mastermind was on how the video was produced but it really is amazing that you just made a video of making two simple axle's into twenty minutes of entertainment. With the narration and the cameo's from some of the other UA-cam players I found myself watching every bit more so than I can recall watching anything from the normal networks. Keep up the good work!
Excellent as always. The cat was 100% enjoyable. hee hee in the last shot of the cat losing its grip, it would be fun to edit some scratches into the bench surface. Carbide clawed cat.
The only UA-camr with truly original and unpredictable jokes...and it's not even a comedy channel!. I second the comment saying it's almost a theft watching this for free :)
Tot bud this is why we love ya. You have humor and your personailty is pleasant enough that you entertain people with metal scraping metal into cylinders.
It's so great to see all these great entertainers and craftsmen collaborate in different ways, and I have no idea how I found some of you, but suddenly this becomes very meta after you consider various combinations of Wintergatan, This Old Tony, Alec Steele and Alex French Guy cooking... all channels I started watching independently from one another... just wondering what the next surprise will be....
He upgraded the shed recently I hear .... the moment he starts getting straight what his machine actually understands about salty cannuck, he might be of tremendous help for mixed insanities like marble- or noodle machines.
Clickspring will rebuild it in brass miniature with handmade tools with every sprocket tooth hand filed. And he will hand file the balls to run on the machine, because he can.
I was laughing so hard. Reminds me of our own cats. When Meatball backed up too much and fell off the table, I was worried it got hurt but it was still incredibly funny!
I'm slowly making my way chronologically, though all the videos on this channel, and just got to this one....OMG, what a masterpiece, forget machining, you should work in Hollywood!
This guy's a star. Wow!...what a very brilliant & clever piece of camera work. The cat bits just cracked me up. Very funny. Good sport this old tony, keep up the great work. Greetings from across that big span of water from Ireland.
With the new cameos your videos are WAY more entertaining than prime time TV. And more educational than most of the stuff on the educational channels ! ! ! ! I'm just happy for my keyboard and monitor that I was not drinking coffee when Adam and Stefan gave those looks of disdain.... :D
You make science/engineering/fabricating easy to understand and fun to watch. Who would ever think that learning could be so entertaining. Your videos should be watched in every Industrial Arts / Ag Machinery class in every high school! These are hard to stop watching.
Superb video production, fantastic humour, brilliant collaboration. Who would have thought that a 'machining' channel could provide such excellent entertainment. Thank you Sir.
lol, I know what the reference to the Australian reverse engineering is all about! Man, I love it when all of my favorite channels have Easter eggs in them referencing each other.
Could you imagine Chris V3.6 in the year 4072 talking about lathes XD "now the ancients didn't have quasar fusion coils to remove atomic particles to size, they used steel cutters and spun the materials past it , they were probably horribly inaccurate to withing a few thousandths of an inch, I've done my best to recreate what I think it might have looked like"
Tony, you are brilliant! Between the planning, machining, filming, style, humor, editing, etc it's just superb! This is something I wish was found on the educational and dyi style TV channels. Also love the camaraderie between you and my other favorite YT producers. Thank you so much!
Ah nice, this is one of those timeless masterpiece UA-cam videos that has way more effort than was required, but none of the extra effort goes to waste. Beautiful
Thank you for blessing the Marble Machine X, Body and Soul!
Congrats Martin for making the best collaboration i've seen in my life. That plot twist at the end is just awesome haha
Great collab, guys! Martin, you're brilliant!
This was one of the best so far.. Elbow patches for the win!
I am thrilled you two collaborated.
I can't believe it has been almost 20 years since I did this type of work for a living. Brings back memories..... not all of them good, mind you. ;)
Very well done, and I can't wait to see what you dream up next!
You forgot the awesome Pulp Fiction reference.
Totally agree!
Michael - I'm one of the 18 people in the US who never saw Pulp Fiction. I guess I'll have to get out more!
Ron, greater movie of all times. Recommend you see it.
You totally know Inspector Gadget the movie is the greater than greater movies of all times. Then there's the bestest movie of all time "Bruce Campbell vs Army Of Darkness"
I never thought it possible for one video to have it all, dad jokes, cult movie referances, machining, and a cat. Good enough to watch twice.
Andrew C oh yeah, twice... totally not like six or seven times at all..... don't judge me😳
I didn't realize that the shawshank redemption was a cult movie
I don't feel like enough of us appreciate all the traveling TOT does to get on location footage. It's part of the craft.
Should I use a European cat to create metric screws or does any cat work ?
😂
To check if your cat will produce metric or imperial screws just measure the thread pitch of the stripes in its fur.
I can confirm it's metric, but he's making trapezoidal profile screws... I'm trying to feed him triangular cat food and I'll keep you posted
Well that's why they make a "Canada" Lynx. Duh.
As a matter of fact, any cat not coming from the US, Burma or Liberia will produce metric screws.
I've never found a channel that I've liked so much in my life. I'm an engineering student and love doing design. I wish he would show us exactly how he hotwired his lathe...
Benjamin Brooks, yea, I didn’t know that was a gasoline powered lathe

The World now sucks a bit less.
Alex French Guy Cooking, with every this old tony video the world sucks a lot less and when there is a quiet click Spring reference, well...
I love ramen too!!
Clearly the secret goal of the Manhattan-project-style operation. Cheers Tony et Al!
So what are you building for MMX? :D
I keep expecting to see you over at Martin's house in a Wintergatan video for some reason. Maybe because you both live in France.
a 23 minute video and not a single youtube commercial...This Old Tony, you the real mvp.

The fact that one of my favorite UA-camrs commented on a video of one of my favorite UA-camrs making parts for one of my favorite UA-camrs is phenomenal!

As far as UA-cam masterpieces go, you set the bar pretty damn high Tony. This probably my 4th or 5th time watching this video, it’s awesome. Cheers.
It's to deter the kids from drinking.

You just keep getting better and better Tony!
ATB, Robin
Agreed. He's really honing his video-creating craft. Artful, funny, and educational!
Thank you so much for making that parts! I think I have to hurry now with the acrylic parts for the marble lift so Martin can assemble everything!
Cant with to see the TOT Sprockets meet The ACNC Carriers!!
Can I have more please?
These collaboration cut shots you've been doing lately are hilarious.

Love, love, love your videos! Great job Tony, thanks for introducing to other great creators. I laughed so much, can't wait to watch it again!
all your videos are jewels, but this one is of unrivaled quality. the intelligent information, the humor and creativity, the recording and editing...this old tony is truly credit to humanity.
These videos are getting epic
Absolutely.

Roger that.
This old Tony, you are a genius. Super entertaining and superbe editing.
I hope one day, sitting on a couch and whatching discovery channel with my son, i could say : '' son, see this man doing this machining stuff? It's This Old Tony, and i know him since he was doing UA-cam videos''
Discovery chanel will be dead by then as with all TV.
Discovery channel, remember back in the day when they had good Shark Weeks?
Heruhcane Dean
And every other week wasn't shark week?
I was wondering why you had a keyway in the bearing until i found out your sweater had elbow patches. Now it all makes sense.
You have to be careful though as some companies will send you clockwise one way bearings when you order counterclockwise ones. ;-)
Just rewatched The Shawshank Redemption. Finally got the reference.
I can't believe it! The moment you said who has time to clock in a 4 jaw Abom appeared in my head, just to have it cut to him a second later! I laughed way more than I should have. TOT, I don't comment much on videos but I love what you do.
Wasnt that just a great bit of footage. Well done adam and steffan. Made me actually lol!
So THAT's how you start a lathe
Only if you don't have the keyway.
Well it is an engine lathe
... start it like You gonna steal it.
So how long before you completely phase out your content in favor of reaction shots from other UA-camrs and your cat?
The assimilation has already begun.

How big of a library of those shots do you have?
AvE is sitting there thinking, where tf is my hand cameo?! lol

And don't forget the references to Shawshank Redemption!
There were numerous shanks redeemed in this video!
Yeah, I must admit I laughed too, although no harder than being able to continue watching. The drum roll was so on point, kudos for that idea.
I was not prepared for the Shawshank Redemption ending.
I was hearing Morgan Freeman about two seconds into that segment.
It was foreshadowed after all :P
It was awesome
Either get busy machining, or get busy dying...
And you realize that Red worked in the shop too. :P

That's the magic of surprise. Expect the unexpected.
19:37 So you're saying Clickspring of the future will find it and rebuild it.
Thank God someone else noticed
Clickspring will rebuild it in brass miniature with handmade tools with every sprocket tooth hand filed. And he will hand file the balls to run on the machine, because he can.
Probably in 1/10 scale.
I believe there is a reference to "The Sirens of Titan" in there also.
Meatball is god damn adorable.
You have to release the build video on him.
I was laughing so hard. Reminds me of our own cats. When Meatball backed up too much and fell off the table, I was worried it got hurt but it was still incredibly funny!
Give Meatball a meatball. By the way, is a catalyst a kittenlyst that got older?
I'm slowly making my way chronologically, though all the videos on this channel, and just got to this one....OMG, what a masterpiece, forget machining, you should work in Hollywood!
So many references.
Clickspring was even alluded to XD
This guy's a star. Wow!...what a very brilliant & clever piece of camera work. The cat bits just cracked me up. Very funny. Good sport this old tony, keep up the great work. Greetings from across that big span of water from Ireland.
With the new cameos your videos are WAY more entertaining than prime time TV. And more educational than most of the stuff on the educational channels ! ! ! !
I'm just happy for my keyboard and monitor that I was not drinking coffee when Adam and Stefan gave those looks of disdain.... :D
I really love your dry humor. You cause your viewers to pay very close attention or they'll miss out.
I wrote this in the past but it’s still here. I think this is your finest work. I used to be indecisive but now I’m not so sure.
wintergatan sent me and i think it would be rude not to sub :)
Same here.
Robert Schreier Welcome to one of the gems of UA-cam.
Me 2, It was the cat.
Wintergatan, Adam, AND Stefan in the same vijayo? What are you, some kind of rock star?
He tried to get another cameo, but AvE just repeatedly screamed, "GET OFF MY LAWN"! while throwing empties.
Josh K AvE is missing though
Nah, AvE just got something stuck in a vise and couldn't make it.
@@pekkasaarinen2902 that could explain the screaming

You make science/engineering/fabricating easy to understand and fun to watch. Who would ever think that learning could be so entertaining. Your videos should be watched in every Industrial Arts / Ag Machinery class in every high school! These are hard to stop watching.
Superb video production, fantastic humour, brilliant collaboration. Who would have thought that a 'machining' channel could provide such excellent entertainment. Thank you Sir.
This is one of the best and funniest collabs ever
The cuts to disappointed Abom kills me every time.
Yes ...losing your mind can be a beautiful thing! Keep losing it. It's great you put smiles on so many faces.
(4:35) "if you own more tan one chuck for your lathe the wrong one is always mounted"
I know nothing about machining. I love your channel. I love machines.
lol, I know what the reference to the Australian reverse engineering is all about! Man, I love it when all of my favorite channels have Easter eggs in them referencing each other.
Take it apaaaaaarrrt :D
Could you imagine Chris V3.6 in the year 4072 talking about lathes XD "now the ancients didn't have quasar fusion coils to remove atomic particles to size, they used steel cutters and spun the materials past it , they were probably horribly inaccurate to withing a few thousandths of an inch, I've done my best to recreate what I think it might have looked like"
Wrong Australian, Pinata.
This is maybe one of my favorite youtube videos of all time.
Tony, you are brilliant! Between the planning, machining, filming, style, humor, editing, etc it's just superb! This is something I wish was found on the educational and dyi style TV channels. Also love the camaraderie between you and my other favorite YT producers. Thank you so much!
Cat pooping the screw had me in stitches!!
"tomorrow"
Still supporting the project two years later
Ah nice, this is one of those timeless masterpiece UA-cam videos that has way more effort than was required, but none of the extra effort goes to waste. Beautiful
