    So precious little time we get with our children, it is truly a blessing when they actually want to spend time with us. That lavender bell pepper really has my interest, I always love the garden part of your videos, and really love the canning and pickling. I let out a belly laugh when I saw how Samantha had labeled the jar "Beware Hot" LOL that was just too funny. Your videos are always a blessing to me, so thanks for sharing them.

    Nothing more enjoyable than the younger generation wanting to learn how to do things. Those are the best memories to make and when they begin their own family then it's passed on. To many kids now a days just take things for granted.

I must say the ducks are so so adorable, I live in the city but it would be so fun to have a couple of them to enjoy their little selves lol. We've watched you let the birds out in the morning and feed them their breakfast...what I'd like to see is how you round up the birds and get them settled in for the night. Your night time routine. :)

    • @pugsabi
      @pugsabi 5 років тому +6

      Speaking from personal experience with my own flock, all the birds go into their own coop at sundown. All you have to do is close the coop after them. You don't have to gather them
      In order to condition them to do this, when you start your flock you want to leave them in their coop and even feed them in there for several days up to a couple weeks. This teaches them where to go at night.
      Personally I give a call (chick chick chick chicky) every time I feed them in the morning and every time I give them treats or scraps. They come flying from every corner of the yard when I call them. This allows me to guide them back into the coop during the day if I need to,.

    • @artist45
      @artist45 5 років тому +2

      @@pugsabi Thank you SO much. I'm quite ignorant when it comes to things like this but I do find it very interesting. I was thinking that it would be difficult to 'round them up' at night, but apparently that's not the case at all!! :) I've always loved chickens and wanted to have them but I find the ducks just so fascinating...lol...

    • @pugsabi
      @pugsabi 5 років тому +2

      @@artist45 I've only had my chickens for a year, so I'm not all knowledgeable. Many people ask the same types of questions so please don't feel bad. Until I got my chickens, I thought they only came in white!
      I have an all hen flock so I also get asked if I still get eggs even though I don't keep a rooster (the answer is yes). My grandmother asked me this even though she used to keep chickens herself!
      Roosters are only needed if you want chicks, and some cities, like mine, don't allow them unless you live in over an acre of land. So that's that.
      I've wanted to get ducks but I don't have the room for them and they can be quite messy.

    • @taylormartin9070
      @taylormartin9070 5 років тому +2

      With having chickens for a few years now, most of the time chickens do go into the coop on their own, if we notice some did not, then they let us pick them up and put them into the coop. At night they are extremely docile.

    • @pugsabi
      @pugsabi 5 років тому +1

      @@taylormartin9070 All of mine were flighty until they laid their first egg, and then they seemed to calm down overnight. I sometimes wish they were a bit more fearful because now they get underfoot whenever I'm in the yard.

    We grow a lot of jalapenos, which I often use to make easy, yummy poppers. Fill jalapenos (sliced lengthwise and seeded) with cream cheese, grated cheddar, and garlic. Crush crackers and mix with melted butter. Press stuffed peppers into crumb mixture so crumbs stick to cheese. Bake at 350-400 until tender.

    Its HILARIOUS to have eggs of different colors! We got into it by accident, picking up a crate of hens with a rooster(very important) at an auction. Surprisingly found the eggs varied in color! Had to look REALLY carefully, but YES that WAS a blue egg(tinted from white), and a green one too! Then we had a few browns, varied in shade from barely tinted faintly brown(more pink) to almost chocolate. Then I started HUNTING for unusually coloured laying hens and so on and so forth, ended up with having quite a flock, was getting requests for *rainbow dozens* which I couldn't always fulfill in a single day, just because the hens were initially older hens, not always laying daily, when we started,As I began replacing them, I started having *double dozens* and couldn't keep up with the hens instead of the orders! Then a few of the kids told their teachers, so was getting requests from schools! And before long was *almost* back in the same situation. And then, the neighbour's grown son went on holiday and asked his dad to look after their dog...🙄 which was fine and we knew nothing about it, until dad decided to save the hassle and brought the dog home to make it easier. And dog decided to come a hunting...😲🙃 found that the taste of warm chicken buffet was MUCH more to his liking than dry kibble!🤬 wasn't long before my flock got reduced...🤯🤔 at first, I wasn't going to make a *HUGE* issue of it, then I got reminded of just how much money I had invested *and* wasn't going to be making anymore. Country being country, I also didn't want to ruffle waters and make for bad relations with a neighbour I might need favours from in the future...even as minor as crossing his land...he solved that for me by showing up very shame faced with his wallet out and apologizing profusely, demanding to pay what the birds were worth(found a lot of feathers on his lawn, put 2 and 2 together with dog'sblody face and untouched food bowl, ... because if the livestock control officer had been called on, it would have been MUCH more expensive and the dog would(mandatorily) have had to be put down.
    Given that I hadn't (yet)reported it, if I'd just take the value(plus some) we could work it out informally, the dog could go home and that would be the end of it.🤔😎 so, he insisted on paying triple the cost of replacing the hens, and we shook on it, everyone was happy(ish) I *had been* attached to some of those birds, like Mrs. Saggy Bottom(literally named, she was so old, her edifice had stretched so much that every 3rd day she laid the weight equivalent of a goose egg!) The older a chicken gets, the larger their hoo hah stretches...so I'm told...I guess apparently like a human woman who has 12 or 14 babies? Each is easier than the 1st? Didn't hold true for me!

    Sara I love to watch you in your kitchen!!! Love learning how you can stuff. I am a self taught canner but only have done jelly, jams and homemade apple butter (this is my speciality!) haha. But you sweet lady are showing me how to can veggies and we have a garden that is doing well, slow to put fruit on due to a very wet and cool spring! In fact the wettest we ever had. Now it’s just HOT! 100’ for today and the next few days! Ugh.
    Anyways I just wanted to tell you thank you I think your precious and love how you share with us!!!
    Pray y’all many Blessings!!! God Bless!!!

    Years ago my in-laws elderly neighbors made kraut each year. Ceramic crock (jar), wooden disk with a few holes drilled through it and a nice clean rock to hold it down (glass puck), and a cheese cloth over the top tied around the side with twine (burping lid). Ah, progress. . . Same set up for pickles In the basement where it was cool they would keep most of the winter.

    I have pinot noir purple peppers they start yellow and taste like green bell peppers. I caught a cute little bunny in my garden after it had eaten all the blooms off my beans. I didn't realize fermenting was that easy I may try it. It was great seeing Samantha I agree with her on peppers.

    Oh my goodness Grace looks so good considering what she's been through. God is so good to us isn't he? She's blessed and obviously he has a bigger plan for her. Hope her recovery continues to go well for her. Also I just started fermenting with garlic but my garlic is turning green is that normal and safe to eat
