I think you're thinking of sea lions! Elephant seals don't eat them (they're piscivorous and eat deep sea fish like rays, squid, small sharks, octos, etc.)

I really wonder how the intermediate stage of a penguin looks. Like, it's always the chick look and the adult 😂 I really want to see where the brown feathers slowly fade while the default "penguin look" starts to slightly appear. Can also say the same for Emperor penguins 😂
I live by the ocean and am always surprised that our gulls are almost the size of their parents by the time we see them. We wonder why this huge brown bird is running around screaming. Then the gray and white parent, same size, returns and feeds it, and you realize it's just a baby. But they're huge.
There's an amazing documentary on penguins which shows the whole egg to chick to adult cycle, including the moult. I'm sorry, I can't remember what it's called but you should be able to find something here on UA-cam or the BBC Earth channel.
