Snow Chick: A Penguin's Tale
This enchanting film follows the adventures of one charismatic emperor penguin from the time he emerges from the egg to the moment he leaves for the sea. Emperor penguins grow up during the winter in one of the coldest places on Earth - the Antarctic. The conditions are harsh and chicks must endure temperatures of minus 60 degrees Celsius and terrifying blizzards. This film follows the trials and tribulations of one adorable fluffy chick - from his first tentative steps on the ice, to getting lost, to hanging out with the other chicks. It also shows the lengths his parents will go to provide food, overcoming huge obstacles, avoiding predators like leopard seals, and enduring freezing conditions. Full of tense and moving moments as well as comedy and character, Snow Chick follows the emperor penguin's life story in a level of detail never attempted before.

Isn't this the same baby penguin that got bullied by older chicks, nearly smothered to death by a bunch of penguins and now survived a petril snatching just because he is the smallest? Man this kid is pretty courageous he Is gonna grow up big and brave :) 💕
Bro, that's fax bro
Is that the way it works? I could add beat up by my Dad and much More! No wonder lm so Strong and Brave and have Fybromyalgia and PTSD! 😱
@@bonniebester606 lmao
He's the mc
I tell my son courage has nothing to do with height. He was born early, plus my father and brother aren't very tall so he's to this little penguin.
Love the intelligence of these birds. To have a strict childminder really displays their thought processes.
This is less of a thought process and more of an evolutionary advantage that became instinctive behaviour.
As far as birds go Penguins aren't on the smart side.
They are also intelligent because they wait until the baby is the human equivalent of a preschooler to leave it with a childminder and it is not for long periods of time.
Animals are waaaay smarter than we give them credit for! 🥰
@@DanielErik weird stretch but okay
@@nickdouglas736 While yes, in a relative sense, humans are more intelligent in terms of abstract thinking, adaptive capabilities, etc., etc., it's not like we can't say the same for us, as the vast majority of our behavior is also based on instinct guided by the 3+ billion base-pair code that is our DNA. Not that you're saying it's not the case.
People like to think otherwise, because the alternative is an uneasy concept, and there's a deeper question of the space "free-will" has, if any, owing to our pervading sense of consciousness, but the evidence is honestly pretty (and perhaps depressingly) overwhelming in terms of showing how much of our behavior, emotions, and yes - even seemingly complex societal or cultural struggles - are just the result of instinctive behaviors due to evolutionary advantages that brought us to being the clearly dominant species and so-called "apex predator" on Earth.
I mean, honestly, sure they're being anthropomorphized quite a bit by the narration, but you can even still see, albeit in a much simpler way, analogs to many social and developmental behaviors of humans in this clip, and they're still a lot more advanced than the majority of species on Earth.
i love how the childminder is trying to shield the baby penguin from the petrel, then pecks at the chick to remind him to stay close.
I imagine her with an English accent.
@@NPClownumber81googolplex omg yes 😂 I imagine her with an English accent, almost like Marry Poppins
The thought of having a childminder in a group of birds is already astonishing. Also the childminder is very protective of the baby chick too. Like how did they come to think this way???
Through Evolution! The ones that didn't think this way, died long ago.
Penguins' cultures, traditions and roles have evolved to give better survival chances to their individuals.
Child minder is a younger adult who hasn't bred. This is training for when she has a child of her own.
@@SimOmega47 through God not evolution. God educate them.
From the Lord, they may not be as intelligent as us since we were made in his image, but they aren't dumb either. Clearly able to communicate in their own ways! It's completely amazing to witness! ♥️

I'm so invested in these clips. The narrator is amazing. Actually, no. The whole team who worked in this are amazing videographer, director, researcher, etc.
the narrator is Kate Winslet 😊
Hehe wow
Agreed.
May I join??
David Attenborough did most of this
He look a lot smaller compared to other chicks 😭
From what I remember watching other clips, it's because the chick was one of the last to hatch, hence slower development compared to other chicks who hatched earlier and had a bigger start ahead of it.
@@miershyk Ohhhhhh. I glad humans don't have to do this
@@KenUghiovhe They do if their baby was born November to January and the parent decides to start their child in school early.
@@AlbertaRose94 Funny.
@@KenUghiovhe My parents made the mistake of starting me early. Let's just say I can *really* relate to this chick and it's difficulty being the youngest and smallest.
I never laughed so hard ever when the penquin just stepped on the chick and slipped and acted like nothing happen LOL. I take a whole 2hr film of just this. I love this.
Ha if you saw the first clip you'd see the baby slip and fall and then the mother almost did the same.

Poor baby, so tiny...but luckely he is smart! He definitely learned a lesson. I hope he will have a good penguin life!
That "tiny" baby penguin is probably over a foot tall. Emperor penguins are huge.
@@olgakim4848 yes, I know. But for the eye, and compared to the world, predators and other chicks. It's cute, 'tiny'.
As I watched the last three amazing penguin clips, I was just thinking their only enemy may be the blizzard and extreme temperature but they do have a predator too. Yet they have an awesome system and ways to protect themselves and their offsprings! Who knew both parents could go hunting while their dedicated babysitter is a protector?! Almost like humans but these are birds! Incredible. Such intelligent animals!
Unfortunately, now they have to fight and invisible enemy, which is much too powerful for them to overcome: Climate Change. They won't make it; in the next few decades penguins will disappear from the wild.

It really is amazing, especially when you think of what they go through for this safety. Miles of walking on freezing ice, both on a full and empty stomach! Starving for weeks while feeding the baby! Yeesh, talk about hard working parents!
4:26 omg this scene its like a teacher standing between you and a school bully.
I was never the victim
4:16 penguin beside the chick: must've been the wind
She was THAT babysitter... can't wait til mom and dad get home 😩 🤣
So cool how they have designated babysitters. It’s like dropping them off at daycare while the parents go hunting.
This is like parents leaving their young ones at school for the very first time and the way the parent penguins are standing next to one and another looks like they’re conversing about their day 😅😅😊 it’s interesting to see these species behaving just like humans would!
Interesting to think they've been doing it for many millions more years than mammals have, let alone humanoids!
1:33 POOR BABY HES SO SMALL
Why are penguins so organized? It's like a whole functional society
the fact the chick and the childminder kept turning around against the predator was lowkey funny and interesting💗😭🙌
Little bro has been through a lot at such a young age. Respect
These baby penguins are so cute and sweet. It's impressive how vulnerable they are to predation even with parental protection. 😍💕🐧🐧💕🐾

This series makes me question if "happy feet" was documentary and not a movie. also, question if the guy who the wrote the script was actually a penguin.
That's a school for penguins! How cute
OMG! Was holding my breath towards the end!! Poor little baby!..
What a cute little guy, learning, to depend on his sitter. How to stay warm and best of all learning which way to face in huddle. They are fun to watch and amazing creatures. Thanks
Please keep giving us updates on this little dude!🥺🥺
At 4:43..It is now a deadly game of HIDE and SEEK,,this kind ofwords made all my bones chill..very scary....
I'll be following this chick on it's perilous journey to adulthood, it's learning so much and fast that when a preditor is angling for it's life, the little fella plays hide and seek to perfection.
I thought I was going to see a baby penguin and head-to-head combat, but this was wonderful.
These animals are super cute and intelligent they even share temperature and help each other, they act just like humans.

Then it was the kidnapping
And now escaping their nemesis on land,
