      AreLL bro, samoans back in the days in the kuabacks are that koa they go in by themselves, but people nowadays like yourself need hands to hold onto every step of the way

      Right on! Exactly what my grandpa did, just went on his own (walked an hour there and back) and got it done like it was no big deal :) Back in the 70's, thats loko right there.

      hardout, thats balls man, i said to him why he didnt tell the family, friends and the faifeau about it so they can come and support, he was like, "a'e maimau kaimi", "whats important is what is in your heart, if you believe you are koa inside your heart and god is with you then you dont need people there to make you koa a?" then i slowly backed out of the room before he starts rattling on for hours lol

    • @princess9210
      @princess9210 7 років тому +2

      And thats the truth. Nowadays we need an audience for it to be legit lol There was more meaning to it back then, all you needed was the loko to do it and blessings after its done haha. Good luck to you if you get yours. I would love to get a malu when the time is right and when my fa'asamoa is 100% otherwise my grandpa will just tell me to malolo and ka my guku first lol.

    being ignorant of your culture is what makes you un-manly in your cultures eyes. thats exactly what suluape explained. getting a pe'a it symbolizes that you have understood the meaning and importance of it, and our culture. the pe'a being an outward expression of your knowledge and bravery. Samoans can still show their love, bravery, and understanding of their culture by other means, such as being a good father! so you're doing good i guess, but dont blame your culture from your insecurities

    I'm not insecure, i don't need a tatau to show that I understand our culture. I've learnt to pick and choose parts of our culture that i see fit to be good and relevant for my family. Tatau, amongst other facets of Samoana isn't one of them.

    • @daydreamerssoul779
      @daydreamerssoul779 6 років тому

      @@bettytetamanu8657 we dont need tatau to be full hearted. I know lots of samoan chiefs that don't have the tatau cause of religion. Its is something that people get to feel and understand their culture more.

    Much respect to all Samoan they had our backs in late 1979 against african american and.mexican much respect from a Filipino the other cultures never disrespected us because of the samoan sad case they chose the gangster life and ended up in prison was it worth it to me no but they are respected for that purpose by all culture but it was wasted years they could had a family life can not be rewined must respect ps our native tribe igarot indigenous filipino does this style of tatoo she is a legend she 100 years old still tatooing she is famous on youtube much respect to all the samoan youtube BADJAO sea gypsies filipino islander who lives in the ocean blue waters and a large community and never like to go on land they are muslim from tawi tawi island basilan island and the sulu seas they make large ships by hand and dive 100 feet and stay under water for 10 minutes and live island life like they did for centuries some of the people look samaon and they speak austronesian language filipino language is austronesian we were just colonized by the Spaniard that is why we lost our austronesian Heritage im suprise our melanesian filipino negritos AETA dont tatoo themselves like the igarot tribe in the Philippines islands

      You can get ka'd (tattoo'd) before you get a chief title - your a taulealea *untitled man

    • @savatagiloa7732
      @savatagiloa7732 2 роки тому

      Back in the olden days, it wasn't really chiefs who got the peʻa done but more so the tauleʻaleʻas/untitled man. It is significant to have a peʻa as a matai cause most do (as they once were a tauleʻaleʻa) but personally I think it isn't needed to be a matai. Although there is a saying "tā muamua le gutu"meaning "understand and have awareness of your culture, before tattooing your body".
