Love your videos! SO clear and concise. With this setup, you could use an ipad instead of a phone and create a soundboard on it to add in sound effects and music.
If I am using two Presonus PD-70 mics, would I need a Cloudlifter or Fethead for cleaner gain… Or could I still get good sound with just the mics and XLR cables?
This is by far the cleanest and straight-up of all the tutorials I have seen here. One question though? What if I'll be using it on my phone? for video conference, skype or zoom? same setup? Thank you!
Definitely a very thorough tutorial, however I have a MG12XU and I cant seem to get a good waveform (nowhere close to yours) when recording on GarageBand, I am not sure what to do at this point
I bought everything listed in this video and set it up exactly how you have it…step by step but I keep getting a constant pop noise whenever I speak into the mic. I used the voice memo app on my iPhone but the playback sounds terrible. A lot of static and when I hear my voice it is extremely distorted. I know I did everything right… The audio coming from the iPhone sounds great but the mic sounds terrible. Can you help?
Thank you for this video, Jordan! I do own the YamahaMG10XUF mixer, and I'd like to ask a couple of questions, just in case you could help: 1) Would the same setup (meaning the cables & adapters) need to be used for getting & recording sound right from the mixer, while recording a video with your phone? Meaning that, the phone would be used just as a camera basically, and the mixer as an audio source, which could automatically sync with the video. 2) Is there a mobile application (or any other digital workaround with this model) which would allow you to change your mixer settings, during a sound check, before a live performance? Thank you very much in advance!
Great video, Jordan! I've binge watched almost all the Yamaha mixer vids and gained a greater understanding from all of them. I do have a question though, that may be an easy one or maybe I'm just hung up on the wording. When you describe the headset adapter that you plug into the phone for the mix minus there are two cables you're using: the lightning to headset adapter and the one with the XLR plug. Your affiliate link for the lightning to headSET adapter goes to a cable that says headPHONE adapter, and in fact, any of the similar cables I find on Amazon (even the Apple certified ones) all list it as headPHONE adapter. I can't see anywhere that confirms that the socket is a TRRS like you say you need, but are these one and the same? Thanks Jordan, I appreciate it.
Hi Malcom. Great comment. As far as I know, Apple only makes one variation of the lightning > headset adapter and they call it a headphone adapter for some reason. I believe looked up the specs (can't seem to find it now. We have about 40 of them at the shop for rentals and they're all headset adapters, we only buy the official ones from Apple.
awesome. along with the Yamaha mg10xu, I have an iMac and an iPhone 11. what is the best set up for video podcasting with the tools that I have? thank you.
Hi I look for the names of the jacks I don't see can you please send it to me Thank you love your video also I have DBX microphone preamp 286s and a 6i6 interface do you have a video on this Thank again
Would you still recommend this mixer if my goal is podcasting and also recording music with multiple mices at the same time. Or any better alternatives for that? TIA!
Great videos. I've learned a lot. I tried the mix minus setup (phone guest), and the caller said I sound as if I was talking through a radio; I did not sound crisp over the phone. However, I recorded the conversation through Garageband, and everything (included my voice) sounded very clear and crisp. So, the guest caller was the one who didn't hear great quality sound through the phone. Any tips on how to provide the guest caller a better listening experience? Could it be cheap XLR audio cables?
A great informative tutorial. quick question, I have this mixer, and would it be possible to connect two phones to this, or connect the audio from a zoom chat from my phone as you did with the example above? Many thanks!
I’m getting a feedback when I’m doing the USB connection…. Can you explain why that is? When I stop the audio playing I’m getting this feedback where I would have to turn down either my hi’s or the volume Greatly appreciated
Hey, I just bought MG10XU mixing console, and i'm having trouble recording digital piano sound, unfortunately all your guide videos are with microphones, so i wondered if i could get in touch with you through email and mayby you could help me out
1. In Yamaha MG10XU Is it possible to record dry voice on the computer while using Effects on monitors at the same time? 2. For live Facebook streaming, how can I increase the volume of the music track played on the computer and how to increase the entire mixer sound (balanced voice and karaoke) for the audience? They complain that the volume is pretty low. Post Following your videos - I turned up the gain and the master levels, but it’s giving lots of feedback noise from my monitors. I don’t use head phones. Please suggest what to do. I must say - your videos are really helpful!
1) No, the USB output is a copy of the Stereo output and is POST (after) effects. 2) If you need a separate mix for your live stream compared to in-room, you will need a digital mixer to manage both mixes. Personally, I would compromise my in-room sound to optimize the live stream. 3) To avoid feedback, you will need to turn down your monitors, reposition your monitors, or use in-ear monitors.
You would need to connect the headphone output from the mixer into a headphone splitter. Something like this would work well: currentprice.io/4ch_splitter
it seems to me that this mixer and the Xenyx 1202USB (i own both) will not send playback of recorded audio from my laptop back to the mixer for monitoring *_via USB,_* and to monitor what i've recorded in my headphones, i would have to send audio from my laptop's headphone jack to my monitor input on the mixer, which is lesser quality (TRS) than the actual recording. am i correct? and if so, may i have a suggestion for monitoring the recorded audio from the laptop to my high quality studio monitor headphones? also, i don't just find loads of info from your videos, i _enjoy_ them, because they _excel._ and i love your outro!!
Love these videos. Thanks so much. Once question..If I have a set up with 4 guys doing a podcast and I want to use 4 sets of headphones would you recommend using a 4 channel headphone amp?
@@kettnercreative One more question. Thanks again. So I just got mine hooked up and it works but for some reason the levels on the unit don't move at all. It records fine though into Garageband. Is there something I am doing wrong? Appreciate it man. Great content.
Yes, you can connect a phone to the MG10 as well. The only difference is that you use the AUX knobs and AUX send (instead of FX knobs/send). Just the labels are different (as the MG10 doesn't have effects). The setup is exactly the same.
Please Help! It seems like I have delay on the usb-hub2.0 cable. Basically audio leaves the mixer, and comes into the pc, but it is delayed when i record in audacity or voicemeeter or whatever pretty much by like 0.9sec. What am I supposed to do?
If there only 2 inputs for this setup one microphone and one iPhone, we can still manage to send mix minus to the iPhone and record 2 tracks onto the daw by plugging in the phone through xlr to channel 2?
These videos are honestly the best I've found on UA-cam. Thanks man!
Glad you like them!
@@kettnercreative These are the best tutorials! Wish I’d found them sooner! What USB cord do I need to purchase for this mixer into my laptop?
As always best video tutorial. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Bro, your vids are next level! Clear, on point easy to digest even for a newbie like me. All my respect man! Subscribed of course.
Just wanted to mention, that the amount of value I get from your channel is insane - Thank you (gonna get my MG10XU soon :))

Hey Jordan. Have just watched a few of your videos now and just to say, great informative work man. Thank you.
One Jordan to another, I love your stuff. Watched a few of your videos over the last few days. Just subbed. Keep up the good work dude.
Superb job on all of your videos! They are truly excellent ... 👍👍👍

Great tip man congratulations
WOW thank you!
How do the 2 guests in studio both monitor audio?
Hey Jordan really enjoying these. Q. On the MG 12XU does the Stereo output also operate independently of the USB output? 1:19
Great question, i believe so
This video was really helpful 🔥🔥🔥
Glad to hear!

Really hard to guess without seeing it myself. I would try reducing the gain a bit and moving the mic so it's 3-5" from your mouth.
Thank you for this video, Jordan!

Thank you for the video! Does the same setup work with four microphones for a four-person podcast?
Yes, absolutely. You just cannot multi-track all four at the same time. You can only record the entire mix.
@@kettnercreative Thank you very much!
how about audio monitor for each guessto hear where does that goes?

What are the smaller red and white plugs on channels 5 and 6? Can they be used to record?
I believe we show it in the video. That's how you would bring in music from a laptop or phone for your podcast.
how do you plug 2 headphones or more so that everyone can hear what is being said??
You would need to connect the headphone output from the mixer into a headphone splitter. Something like this would work well: currentprice.io/4ch_splitter

No, If you press the USB/Line button on 9/10 and "To Mon" on 9/10, you can monitor from the USB no problem.
What if the zoom call is on the laptop that is also doing the recording?
How do you monitor on multiple headphones?

When I record the audio & play it back on garage band, I don't hear anything. I don't know if I'm missing s setting or anything on garage band
You said the volume of the mics would be different for live streaming vs just regular podcast recording. What would the difference be?
The gain for live-streaming needs to be as close to 0 as possible. When you're recording you generally your peak around -12.
If there only 2 inputs for this setup one microphone and one iPhone, we can still manage to send mix minus to the iPhone and record 2 tracks onto the daw by plugging in the phone through xlr to channel 2?
Yeah, you can do that.

Your phantom power is on unnecessarily. Great presentation any way.
It happens. Doesn't hurt the mighty SM58 ahah.
