I just had mines assembled today. Your review was helpful in choosing this treadmill. I didn’t want another subscription and wanted to do HIT. Such a thorough review. Thanks!
You could definitely buy this treadmill to use for walking if you want to. It's just engineered for high intensity training and running so it might be overkill if you're only going to use it for walking. The "zone out" comment was basically stating that using this machine is quite a bit different than using a traditional treadmill where the belt just moves on it's own and you don't necessarily have to worry about the belt. Whereas the narrower curved belt requires more focus and attention until you get used to using it. You could say there's a learning "curve" 😉
Your reviews are the most insightful one to date... I'm trying to decide between a Truefrom trainer vs Assult runner for WALKING under office desk. So my biggest concerns are how it performs under walking speed, how smooth is it, which one is quieter? I really hope if you could provide some insight?
Just bought it put it together last night, the handle area feel cheap for a $4000 unit, so far it feels very weird very hard to walk on im either going to fast or to slow i have to hold on for now im sure ill get used to it
Great detailed review! How is this treadmill for longer / slower runs (e.g. marathon training)? Any way to simulate hills? Also, do the rubber slats give it a feel of running on a track?
Great questions and thanks for watching! This treadmill is great for longer/slower runs because you can really control your pace and move the belt on your own vs the belt moving you along. Simulating hills might be a little bit more of a challenge compared to an incline treadmill but you should be able to simulate hills by varying speed. (We would actually love to know your thoughts on this if you wouldn't mind sharing) The rubber slats are very similar feeling to a track but the curve feels great on the knees. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@@TreadmillReviewGuru I'm not an elite runner but run 50+ a week and usually run 3 marathons a year. I always enjoy your reviews. So much more thorough than the other ones out there! I also watched your review on Trueform Trainer. How would you compare the two? The Assault Runner looks like it has steeper curve.
Thanks for watching! The Assault has a steeper curve so the belt is easier to get moving than the TrueForm treadmills. However, the shallower curve on the TrueForm is designed to promote correct running form and a midfoot strike. We have a comparison video of the AssaultRunner Elite with the Trueform Trainer and Runner coming soon!

I understand you mentioned that it is overkill for walking, however can I use it to get a good workout doing fast walking? id rather spend the money on this and later on start running than a cheap treadmill, is it weird to walk on or can it be done for a fast pace walk?
You can totally use it for walking. This is one of our favorite treadmills! The Assault is manual powered, so if you opt to walk, make sure you stand about 2/3 of the way up the deck, otherwise, you'll lose momentum and the belt won't move fast enough underfoot. You'll get the hang of it - just be aware your position on the deck impacts how smoothly the belt moves.
Maybe the best recipe... So many great points have here that hasn't been mentioned in other videos... Being that it encourages forefoot strokes it night not be for every rubber m runner..e.g one that wants to do"her toe".... Wick makes a motorized better.. Just can't go all out... In the end.. This is an excellent treadmill for all distances. Professional athletes prefer manual treadmills because they naturally mimic outdoor running. Because the belt is not motorized, it will go as fast or as slow as you do. It's easier to inadvertently slow down since the belt doesn't hold you at a set pace, however, the belt has a sustainable momentum so you're not fighting it to keep going. It's just like running outside - you set the pace.
Yes you can do long duration but your pace will be a bit slower. It is not difficult to hold your pace, you need to get used to it and know where to run on the belt. You will manage running a little bit up on the incline to be faster and on the flat section to slow down. it will become second nature from your second run and you will be able to maintain the speed.
I prefer using the Assault treadmills for longer runs (>90’). Running pace is slower compared to outdoors and motorized treadmills but there are many upsides Including natural variation in pace, improved left ight running balance and posterior chain engagement. I prefer motorized treadmills for outright speed over longer intervals and of course incline repeats.
The 2 feet at the back of the treadmill are adjustable. They might be really stiff and require a wrench to loosen them. But you can tighten or loosen those and they will help level out the treadmill. It might help to have someone else hold up the back end of the treadmill while you adjust the leveling feet. Let us know if you have any other questions.
