  • There's an epidemic of Knock-Off fuel filters on Amazon, eBay and many other sites. Here's a few thing that may help identify these clones.

I’ve been using geno’s for probably 20 years now. They are not the cheapest but their customer service is top notch. Another great video, thanks.

I’ve always ordered filters from Genos and had great service from them. For the price of these pickups I wouldn’t even shop for a better deal.
    Great video, Thanks!

As this issue has been talked about on several forums, I was wondering if someone would actually go into a bit more depth with pictures.
Thanks again , particularly liked the part about the rear filter needing to be pushed in to engage threads.
I have Mopar branded filters on the shelf as I always keep supplies on hand. During these times it’s a good practice.
My Mopar filters have come from genos, Amazon ( dealership )or eBay ( dealership) hopefully the dealerships were legitimate.
Prior to 1979 we never had this sort of problem

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM AMAZON OR EBAY FOR YOUR TRUCK. GENOS GARAGE OR MOPAR DIRECTLY.

Thanks Marion another great video. How often do you change your fuel filters? I do mind once a year whether it needs it or not. Every 6 months I do the oil so every second oil change I do my filters. Yes I only use Mopar original or fleetguard also.

I do about the same as you, but I don’t put 15,000 miles on my truck a year so I usually go more than that on the filters.

Hello Mr. Blair haven't seen you in a while hope you and family are doing well. great information on filters. One thing for sure is anyone who has a Diesel you should be using the the filters. I use these exact filters in my 2018 Ram 6.7 Cummins and I love how long they last. for the two at the dealer it cost me 150 bucks. and that's a little high but todays prices are up so I expect to pay more next time i need them. Thanks for sharing and the information because someone probably learned something with this info. Have a great evening and a great rest of your week.

Hi Marion thanks for all the great videos my question is do you replace the rear filter when you replace the front filter I usually time them out on the filter monitor and then I replaced them can you run the back one longer than the front one?

    • @MarionBlair
      @MarionBlair  2 місяці тому

Thanks, I change them at 15K together. With the clean diesel now, that's probably overkill but the danger in going to long is low fuel pressure could take out the injection pump. That would cause the pump to fail prematurely which would be expensive. Wish we had a pressure gauge to look at.

Thanks for the information Marion. I think I have been bitten by the counterfeit bug. I bought the Mopar filter pack on Amazon. 2018 Ram 3500 6.7. The oil filter looks exactly like the one I pulled off using my end cap filter wrench. Go to put on the new filter, I use the end cap filter wrench just to turn it the 3/4, and the wrench cap spins. It is too big for the filter., the filter is just a bit smaller in diameter on the bottom. I go to NAPA and ask for the Gold filter and the wrench cap fits perfect. Oh, and after I changed the fuel filters and did all the priming steps, the truck will not start. New appropriately priced fuel filters are on the way.

I started ordering from Geno's, because I've been camping in Quartzite for several months now and couldn't find an oil filter anywhere ? The only auto parts store in town can't get the Cummins filters none of them? So I grabbed 3 fleetgurards from Geno's. Not even the service shops at the truck stops in town knew what filter fits the ram Cummins? I'm sure this Engine is used in some larger trucks. So if you camp in the long term visitor area LTVA in Arizona and own a RAM Cummins get your parts beforehand. You can't find anything down here. Why am I here? I'm a newly retired snow bird LTVA is $180 for 7 months you can't beat the price to winter in the desert 👍👍👍👍

I put WIX fuel filters in my 2014 last service cause I couldn’t get the Fleetguard like I always do. I got a CEL and a code for low fuel pressure. I changed out for Fleetguard and poof, CEL and code gone. Don’t use WIX filters, run the OEM like you said.

Great video sir. I buy all Fleetguard or Mopar genuine filters for my Cummins. Amazon has reputable sellers you just have to do a little research. I cut open all my filters after use and have never came across any counterfeit filters I’ve bought from Amazon. I would never use a doc’s diesel oil filter they are terrible quality. The air filters are decent but I would avoid doc’s diesel oil filters and fuel filters.

Several people highly recommended Docs, so for the first time in 85k miles I put their fuel filters on my '17. I did a feel test for the check valve and the Docs required more pressure
than the Mopar, maybe even a bit too much. I'm running them for this go round but will probably go back to OEM at the next change.

I read that the legit front fuel filter will have a green mesh instead of white. Or transitioned to green. In the water separator was there just the one element or other parts inside the housing? My buddy bought one off Amazon and it rattled from some black piece that came loose....

I purchased a cheap set of filters from. Amazon and had to return them and purchase from Advanced Auto Parts. My truck lost power and could not move up a small hill. Had to stop multiple times on the side of the road and had to cancel my trip

Ordered from Amazon. The front (pressure canister) filter on a 6.7L Cumins allowed air to foam with the diesel fuel. The engine would start, idle for about 2 seconds, then starve for fuel and shut down. I found the bottom edge seal on the filter was two rims and far to soft. It did not seal, therefore air would bypass and get to the engine. Reinserted the old one until I get a good quality set. Yes, the print on the rear filter was just as shown in this video. Going to be much more careful in the future.

I’ve changed my fuel filters several times on my own. The last time I did it, I couldn’t get the engine to start for anything. I tried over and over to prime it, but it just wouldn’t start. Finally I got out and checked the filter under the hood, but it was all good. Then I checked the filter under the bed. And yep, I had forgotten to close the drain valve. All that fuel I was trying to prime with was just pouring out onto the ground. I probably wasted 2 or 3 gallons of diesel. I was so mad at myself. Lesson learned: don’t do vehicle maintenance when you are rushed and in a hurry or you’ll make stupid mistakes. My gravel driveway still smells like diesel!

Last time I used a Doc's, I had to pry it out of the housing. Since then, I've had to pry every one out. Cannot figure out what's going on or why it's "freezing" in there.

I had the same problem once and realized old o rings from previous fuel filters had fell off and stayed in there, hence the filter getting lodged in there. I’d check inside the canister itself next time if you haven’t already.

My 2012 only has one fuel filter. I have to add another on the frame. I don't know why this year they didn't use a Water separator filter? I know there are kits out there to add the second filter. These Cummins engines are not cheap to take chances on.
