My next door neighbour just got one of these (in white, too!) and I just checked it out in person for the first time. Honestly, at first I thought there's no way I'd go for the base trim, but the more I think about it, I think this is the trim to get. You're spot on with this being the "70 series we never got". In it's factory form, it's the perfect canvas to build these out how most enthusiasts will want, and doesn't have all the bells and whistles to worry about.
Level it out, put some 33s, tint the windows and call it a day. I'm excited about this vehicle!

Personally without MTS, and disconnectable sway bar, I still think the middle trim is the one to get. MTS is really a big deal when you start off roading, and unlike previous years, MTS can now work in 4WD or 4HI and the previous MTS only worked in 4LO. So MTS is a lot better now, and not getting it with a 60k vehicle is not acceptable. Not to mention, the sway bar disconnect is huge for people who will actually do moderate off-roading. However, you might be able to add the sway bar disconnect, but that sort of defeats the purpose of saving money by going with the lowest trim. I still think Toyota needs to do more with nearly 60k with these LC's -- It's $57,400 with destination.

I feel like Toyota went out of their way to strip this model down. No soft touch elbow rests in the doors on a $60k vehicle is crazy.
I just bought a LC Premium, the powertrain is really nice imo. It’s definitely not fast, but the power delivery and transmission is smooth going around town. Plenty of passing power on the highway too.

"No soft touch elbow rests in the doors on a $60k vehicle is crazy."
Spent two days in a press loaner 1958 and this was my first complaint, took about 7 seconds. Not the last complaint I had with it, but easily the first of a long list of "doesn't feel like a premium product" complaints I had with it.

These are basically just street cars. We also paid about $55-56k for out V6 Lexus RX350L which as a significantly nicer interior and smoother and quieter. No reason to buy this vehicle except for the exterior styling. If you want 4x4 a 4Runner would probably work better with better interior features. The plastics on this LandCruiser is worse quality than a corolla for $55K. If it were a lot cheaper it would be acceptable but not for the prices they are charging.

Kirk, I have been a long time fan of your page. After driving the 2025 Camry I trust every review now that you put out. I drove XSE last week and it was as fast as my 2011 V6 RAV4, but handled much much better. I have been a Toyota owner since 1995. It all started when my dad bought his Land Cruiser in 1987 for just over 17,000 out the door. It was a manual with an optioned air conditioning. The only in the future really had was a AM/FM radio. My dad had that for over 15 years. He traded it in for my mom’s Corolla that cost the same in 2003. This cruiser which is close to as what my dad had in 1987 feature wise is actually a good deal for $55,000. I did an inflation calculator for 1987 cruiser what it would cost today and it is 48,000+. Given that this has plastics like my dad‘s 87 Land Cruiser, that is no problem. This power and this vehicle is massive compared to that 87 Land Cruiser it had 200 hp then. It was based on a Chevy 5.3 V8 block. My family has been a Toyota owner since that 87 Land Cruiser. I will definitely buy the 2025 Camry LE before the end of the year. I was considering the RAV4 hybrid, but the seats were a bit short compared to my 2011 surprisingly. Thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work! 😃

Oz Landcruiser 70 owner here: it's purely an emotional/cultural decision to buy a 70 and also a 58 from what you have said. There are far more "sensible" trucks/SUVs out there.
But that's hardly the point. The Landcruiser 70 is an icon as is the Corvette, the Mustang and the 911...with the exception that whilst those cars have embraced change, the 70 has resisted it kicking and screaming...and that has result in 2+ years wait times here (in reality, you will probably never get one) from new car dealers or 25%+ premiums for lightly used examples. But at least you know the brick like durability and the completely unstressed V8 turbodiesel will last decades.

For example, Toyota Landcruiser vs Jeep Wrangler vs Ford Bronco vs Land Rover ????. For the comparison to be accurate and useful, they really need to be very similar, ie. if 4x4 exclude AWD. Kirk, the jerkiness of the powertrain could be due to this being a modern automatic that doesn’t slip the torque converter constantly below 40 mph. You can’t compare it to the older Toyota products which have very very old-fashioned torque converters, and software programming. Those old transmissions tend to slip a ton giving you that awful slush box feeling, which made them kind of boring. These newer automatics are basically like clutchless manuals.

Look at their supposedly luxurious materials. Look at those cars that are 10 years or older. Their expensive dashboards and doors are all jacked up.
