Agreed. Putting awd would seal the deal since some people just don’t want suv, but we all know Honda would not do it. Having awd on the civic would take the sale out of the Corolla awd for sure. More power, and looks much better inside and out.

I love that it didn’t drone (as much) when they pushed it from a stop, some of those cars go full vacuum cleaner…and they don’t have torque well placed. At least this one actually gets off the line a bit, which is plenty for these segment of drivers. Also 50mpg.

This makes the Base model Integra a really hard sell now. It’s slower, worse gas mileage, and more expensive. Hoping this powertrain makes it over to Acura, it should be a drop-in replacement.

@@SuperJuggerNog I wouldn’t be surprised if if you were right. However, that would remove Acura’s entry-level offering, which is a product position I think they’d want to maintain. A top-spec hybrid Integra under $40k would be a killer combo in the entry-luxury segment, imo.

They are going to sell a ton of these. Yesterday's penalty box economy cars are becoming what used to be available only to the wealthy, while higher-end cars are now increasingly just festivals of silly gadgets and horrifying depreciation. What exactly does a 3 series really offer you that this doesn't? Is it really worth the price difference? You would never have even asked that question a decade ago, but for a lot of mainstream buyers the answer is now "not much", and "no". These are weird times for the car industry.

Anyone curious about how the engine works, here how i understand it.
There is technically a transmission but it's only switching between direct drive from the electric motor and direct drive from the 2.0l engine.
If you are bellow 50 or 60 mph you will be running purely on the electric motor, and using the ICE engine to charge the battery as needed.
Only at highway speeds (where the engine is most efficient) will it switch to direct drive from the ICE engine. This is because it only has one gear ratio (no CVT or anything) which is optomized for highway speeds.

Ngl, I have been very critical of Honda lately due to the designs of the car and my skepticism about the reliability of the 1.5 L engine. I hated the design of the last gen Civic, and wasn't so much of a fan of the pre-facelift version of the current gen. But seeing this facelift version makes me want to be a Honda person again and buy the hatchback variant. So happy to see Honda finally fixing their chassis design.

I love my car and I am getting great combined gas mileage (high 30s) but man 50MPG for the same price is crazy. I keep my cars a long time, so maybe I'll get a 12 gen hybrid. Peace to all. Daniel

Been driving one for more then a year. Everything is pretty good for what it is. Quick and handle well for what it is. Fuel economy is unreal. The fuel tank is 5l less then the non hybrid. The road noise is pretty loud at speed. I think it's because it only comes with 19" wheel with pilot sport. The active noise cancelling is only to mask the engine on off noise. The fake engine sound is pretty annoying but it mask the washing machine engine sound. So I'm kinda ok with that. But the fake sound doesn't comes on during high load slow speed situation. Idk how people get confused about this hybrid transmission, it's the most simple transmission imaginable. The engine is connected to a generator which generates electricity to power the motor connected to the wheels and also keep the battery charged. This kind of operating mode is called "series hybrid" and the concept is super simple. The only slightly complicated part of the transmission is that it also has a clutch to connect the engine to the wheels directly at higher speeds, this mode is called "parallel hybrid" because the engine is driving the wheels but also charging the battery, or taking power from the battery if the car needs a temporary power boost. "e-CVT" is a marketing term that doesn't accurately explain how Honda's hybrid system operates. "parallel" and "series" hybrid modes are real terms to describe different hybrid operations. Toyota hybrids can only use the engine as a parallel hybrid, but their parallel hybrid mode can continuously vary the gear ratio at all speeds for max efficiency but does lose efficiency at higher speeds because it has to run the motor/generators to keep the gear ratio high which results in electrical energy loss. Honda's parallel hybrid mode on the other hand has a fixed gear ratio and can only be engaged at high speeds, but doesn't result in energy loss because it is using real gears and a clutch so there's no electrical loss.

Makes you wonder if the value proposition is worth it, but it depends on what your needs are and if you can find a dealer willing to co-operate on giving you a good price. Unfortunately, if you need a cheaper hybrid option you'll have to settle for the Corolla.

With no transmission, (never thought I would say that) you got to wonder if Honda just UP'd the reliability which is already high in a Honda... Because I have a 2005 Acura TL and at 135k miles, the only engine work I have done is replace 1 ignition coil.. It took 10 minutes. Did it myself. I just wish my car had a timing "chain" instead of a "belt". Still.. I wont have to do that again for a long time. But No transmission is pretty awesome. No fluid to replace. All they need is Electric Steering to take out another fluid. That too would UP the reliability.
