Yes this happens mainly on the earlier year Ax5. If you have this style it will have a nut (not a snap ring) holding on the 5th gear assembly. You replace what parts are bad, definitely get a new nut, use lock tight on nut. On the main-shaft get a new snap ring for behind 5th gear and get a "AX5 Aftermarket 5th Gear Snap Ring Retainer, AX5-SRR" from Ebay. this will capture the snap ring on the main shaft. Doing this will eliminate any future issues
