Is it just me or does that album "Damp Chill Of Life" actually make you feel like the album title. Damp and cold. One of the most unique albums I've ever listened to and definitely something you can come back to when you're really feeling it.
Torn beyond reason is one of the greatest albums ever. Such atmosphere can't be replicated. You just gave me a reason to listen to it again, after few years.

If you haven't, Wedard, Nokturnal Depression, Shyy, Soliness, Heretoir, Germ, Lyrinx, Lascar, Farsot, Austere, Lifelover, and Trist are some really good bands I frequently listen to. @@Παθεια_Γνωστικα the double-dose of F-ing Your Ghost and Sardoniscorn is one of the most ferocious openings to a black metal album. Love the title track, The Idiot Sun, and Mine Molten Armor, as well. It is a very angry album, Wrest never manages to lose that sheer agression in his music
I'm not the biggest fan of your everyday generic black metal, and often prefer "blackened" genres, but dsbm and melancholic bm have surprised me and I find myself listening to them on the daily.
Depressive black metal and Melancholic black metal are basically the same. same style of lyrics same style of message. both are my favorite genres. Depressive Post Black metal is amazing as well. one of the most famous band in that genre is Heretoir.
@@Vinter666 Because Annorkoth is not Post black metal they make Atmospheric black Metal. Alcest does make post black metal with Shoegaze influence. its not a pure Blackgaze band. if you want to have a true blackgaze band listen to NIC for example.

@@jasonadams2 They've dedicated albums to some divisive figures in Ukrainian history. Blood in our Wells was dedicated to Stepan Bandera who is probably the most controversial. But they're a pretty silent bunch who let their music speak for itself.

Yeah i think you can group everything into the category of atmospheric black metal as well, but it's nice to subdivide these bands by the vibes and emotions that they convey. I think it's useful when you're looking for a specific vibe to listen to
Melancholic sounds like some hope remains for the future. Depressive sounds like there is nothing left.

The Tenth Sublevel is the most "true"-feeling DSBM album, in my opinion. It's bleak and miserable without losing the core of black metal
