    I believe O's owe it to guys like Norby, Kjerstad and Stowers to either play them regularly or trade them. Those guys are 24 and older and everyone knows they could play for half the teams in the league. I don't think it's fair to mess with their careers and O's have pitching needs.

      @@johndavies5582 That's just not a smart way to conduct business. I'm sure John Angelos had that kind of an attitude. O's are never gonna spend a ton on FAs like Yanks or Dodgers so I'm sure they don't wanna be an organization known for holding back the prospects.

      I agree, but in the context of next season - meaning if they don't plan to fit Stowers and Norby on the 2025 team, then they should trade them so they can play full-time somewhere else. I don't think the O's have to give them up this season just to do it. They are one injury away from needing guys like them to start potentially. Like just recently Hays' knee was injured and they called Norby up to Baltimore in case they needed to activate him.

      @@kosanmr2 Yes and if you think O's don't have obvious needs then you haven't been watching. Doesn't matter if they have to overpay, they must make trades to improve pitching. If they think Keegan Aikin who just F-ed a totally winnable game can replace Coulombe for two months or more then we're in deep trouble.

    July 7th MLB Power Rankings video: Dodgers #3 65 second clip, Orioles #2 19-ish second clip of Austin Hays making a rolling, somewhat diving catch in left field, Phillies #1 45 second clip, Yankees #5 1 minute 16 second clip of Ben Rice hitting 3 homers during the Yankees first win in 5 games as part of a 5-15 stretch. Makes sense. Things like this are why I start to lean towards Elias making the blockbuster trades, but the mainstream media attention only stays if you keep winning and winning in big games, which I believe we need our farm system for at this point. I’ve definitely been an advocate of trading for Crochet, Miller and more, completely emptying out the farm system with the exception of Mayo, Kjerstad, Holliday, but I recently saw Samuel Basallo play live, and that boy cannot be traded. The only reason he’s not the number 1 prospect in baseball is because he hasn’t been in the minors long enough for writers to take that plunge, but he’s about to make some very serious noise at the Futures game and the baseball world is about to get a formal introduction of Samuel Basallo. Scouting report says he’s 6’4”, if he’s 6’4” I’m 7 foot, that kid is AT LEAST 6’6” and at 19 years old he’s easily a skinny 240lbs. This kid is going to develop into a behemoth. Watching him at the plate I was instantly reminded of an Oriole postseason series a decade ago when I watched a hobbling Miguel Cabrera give me anxiety, high blood pressure and probably some permanent damage to my health in some manner because he was a wizard with a baseball bat. Basallo’s stance has him flying open with his front shoulder, he gets so much torque off his swing that his back foot actually comes off the ground as he finishes and he has to quickly adjust to prevent himself from actually falling over. It’s unpolished and raw to say the least, but he can pretty much go flat footed, get fooled on a ball that’s going to hit home plate and he can hit it over the wall to the opposite field, that’s a real thing, that actually happened. He’s already being intentionally walked in AA Bowie, which should be illegal imo, but how’s that for respect? He faced one of the toughest lefty’s in AA baseball the other day and I watched him make adjustments/corrections mid-AB showing it is a natural talent for him, I watched him progress through each AB and given the work he needs with his stance/load, etc. and that he’s NINETEEN YEARS OLD, he went 0-3 against the lefty but he swung at ball 4 in the first AB after taking 2 pitches in the same spot before hand which tells me he feels obligated to make something happen rather than passing the torch, his second AB he squared the ball up but right at the center fielder and his 3rd AB he hit a routine fly ball to left field so he had the launch angle this time but didn’t barrel it up. Again, against one of the toughest lefty starters in all of AA who is exceptionally dominant against lefty’s and his fourth AB was a 12 pitch AB where he hit a chest high cutter that started in on his hands and finished out over the plate all the way to the wall in left center field only because he didn’t barrel it up. It didn’t have the sound most of his balls have, so the pitcher immediately pointed up in the air like it was a pop up and then watched it fall 3 feet short of sailing over the wall. So he’s 0-4 at that point and in extra innings they intentionally walked him to get to Dylan Beavers who would strike out on a few pitches. You find out the most about guys in the games they don’t perform well, in the 12th inning he chased a very high fastball to strikeout, but this kid has a serious presence at the plate, he’s not intimidated; the opposite, he seems almost bored and underwhelmed, like he’s looking for a challenge but hasn’t found it. I genuinely believe he will be a lefty Miguel Cabrera at the plate over his career once he’s a polished big leaguer, simplifies the approach at the plate and understands how pitchers are going to attack him personally. He’s a natural and when his baseball IQ/experience match up with his natural abilities, he’s going to be very, very special at the plate. Almost to the point of making it pointless for him to work on his defense as a catcher, he’s inevitably going to be moved to a more convenient defensive position to allow his bat to shine, possibly even as a career DH. I think it’s going to take a few years but judge and ohtani are going to be looking up at Basallo if he puts together the big league quality polish.

I think it’s something to consider that he gets a pos change sooner than later. I know it’s a hot take but he’s definitely replaceable at C and imo should play 1B sooner rather than later. It’s not a coincidence he’s pedestrian at best while he C offensively.

    Stowers to me is like a Steve Finley. We can trade him and I wouldn't be surprised if he went on to play in the big leagues until he is 39. With that said I still don't see a place for him on this team currently barring an injury. The commitment to Holliday is very evident due to the fact we dealt Ortiz and continue to keep Norby in the minors while Urias stays on our roster. I believe the O's will also let Norby go without hesitation. When it comes to Kjerstad, Mayo, and Basallo, I think you need to force yourself to pick one as a trade piece. I would pick Kjerstad out of the three is push came to shove and I had to deal one. Having all of this talent is great but the team needs pitching now and for next year and beyond. On another note, if they got miller and skubal is on the market, I’d go all in on him. Locked town till ‘27, he’d be an easy resign after 3 deep playoff runs and knowing he wouldn’t have that bullpen behind him if he goes somewhere else.

  • @LovinLoyalty
    @LovinLoyalty 23 дні тому

    The bullpen is where the focus needs to be, we can get the 11 wins required to win the World Series with our current starting pitching if the bullpen can hold 1 run leads. If the O’s bring in 2 mega arms to the bullpen like Miller and Helsley or Miller and Finnegan/Scott, Miller and another basically, and fix the rotation in the winter and we will be fine. Our lineup will dominate #3/#4 starters anyway, but the bullpen will be most important. Use player capital to get relievers under team control for a while like Miller(maybe not as much as him, but somewhat)and use actual capital to bring in starters next year. Especially considering guys will be more inclined to sign with us if we go deep into October. They absolutely have to sign Burnes, no question. After that, think about how Scherzer will take the lesser deal to join our team if we saw the fall classic without him and without Bautista and Bradish who we will have back before October next year. Point is, the starters could come cheaper if they fix the big hole right now.

    My guess is Mayo is their top guy who’s truly untouchable. He’s the one with high average, 50 home run potential.
    I’m still trying to understand what the one thing Holliday does well or is projected to exceed at. If he ends up as good as Westy is now, I’d say that’s a very good win. My point is, why gamble if we already have our 2nd baseman and are already so lefty heavy in the lineup. Our outfield will soon consist of 3 left handed everyday players. Add Gunnar. Do we really want 5? Who will play the Ohearn role out of those studs?

  • @LovinLoyalty
    @LovinLoyalty 23 дні тому

    Quick question: just got today’s lineup. No mountcastle again. I have a feeling something is going on there. Don’t be surprised if he gets traded this year because his glove is significantly better than O’Hearns and while O’Hearns bat has been great it hasn’t been so good that O’Hearn would have taken his job after a roughly week long slump for Mounty. Something is up in my opinion. If it was strictly a match up thing, Mounty would have hit for O’Hearn Sunday against Heaney or at least against the LHP reliever that came in later. So, if he’s not hurt, something is up. He would be highly coveted by a lot of teams that considerable themselves close to being contenders and teams rebuilding because he’s not a free agent until ‘27 and he’s only making $4 million this year. The same way I thought something was up when Maton got called up over other people, I think something is up with Mounty as well. Praying it’s not an injury.
    I don’t buy this whole “illness” thing at all. They always say what the illness is, like the flu or stomach virus, whatever. “Illness” is extremely vague.

    • @dogtrainingplus

    What if Paul Skenes is on the market? What would you all be willing to give up for him? Still under rookie status so LONG term team control. I’d give up Basallo and Bradfield for him no question. Norby/Stowers for Mason Miller. Sign Tanner Scott in the off season or another big lefty reliever of the same caliber along with Corbin Burnes and start setting up the display case for the Commissioner’s Trophy the same day. Coulombe and Perez are FA next year so maybe the O’s even go get a couple guys like Chapman, Matt Moore, Drew Smyly to fill those slots since they all have AL East experience as LHP. Either way, my thinking is, if you sell the farm to get Skenes and Miller you won’t need the farm for 4-5 years if you just keep the guys we have now including Burnes, aka stroke checks. The more I look at this, the more convinced I am that Elias is going to use the player capital he has, and has to spare, and he’s going to make some really crazy noise this trade deadline. First time I’ve been able to say that in a very, very long time, I’m genuinely looking forward to the trade deadline/Elias’ moves because I just know it’s going to be serious, significant and nothing we will be upset about like losing Holliday, Kjerstad, Mayo or any of the guys that are in the lineup everyday like Cowser or Rodriguez.

    Untouchables IMO: Kjerstad, Mayo, Holliday, Basallo, Bradfield Jr. HOWEVER, if we are talking about someone like Tarik Skubal being available, Basallo and Bradfield Jr become available. I think the O’s best trade pieces are Norby and Stowers. Kjerstad, Holliday, Mayo are untouchable under any and all circumstances. If the Marlins didn’t have their premier starters on the DL they would be an ideal trade target. Tanner Scott, AJ Puk, Lazardo and Braxton Garret would be amazing additions to this team. I think we need a top shelf #3 starter and 1-2 big arms in the bullpen because the focus has to be October. With a big 3 in the rotation and a big arm to compliment the existing bullpen and the additions of Irvin/Suarez and either Povich or Kremer depending on who looks better going into October for the rotation, and I think we have all the makings to win games with this lineup. Let’s not forget that we scored 11 runs in 3 games in the ALDS with what I consider a lesser lineup, with game 3 only scoring one run after being down 2-0 and the rangers scoring 6 runs before the 3rd inning. Who knows how that goes if the series is tied 1-1. Point is, it’s not like we didn’t hit in October. Gunnar Henderson has a career .500 BA in the postseason, small sample size, but still, this year the offense goes for real when Gunnar goes and all signs point to Gunnar going in October. So if we can add a top shelf #3 that gives us a pitching advantage 1-4 because Kremer / Povich are top shelf #4s if they’re going decent, they’re even better if they’re going well. So I’d love to see a cardinals trade that brings Gibson back to Baltimore with Helsley. I also wouldn’t disagree with moving guys like Basallo and Bradfield along with Norby and Stowers if it brings back guys like Mason Miller and Garrett Crochet. I would pay heavy for a Mason Miller kind of arm, if it had more big league success under their belt, but if he maintains this success and he’s paired with Bautista going forward that’s the best 1-2 punch in baseball, maybe this century of baseball. I think it’s a smarter move to get a top shelf #3 that will come cheap, and then focus on free agency this winter. The O’s get Bradish back next year, imagine if we sign Burnes and Scherzer this offseason and get Bradish back before the end of the year, and we have Miller and Bautista in the back end of the pen. I think Povich finds a rhythm and becomes a Max Fried-lite caliber pitcher, mid 3s ERA, a lot of quality starts, but not a lot of 8IP games making him the best #5 in baseball behind Burnes, Scherzer, Bradish, Rodriguez going into October 2025. If the O’s spend the player capital to get Miller now and a #3 rental, I think that speaks to Elias saying he’s going to spend cash to bring in the SP next year and he’s used his available player capital to get the bullpen set for today and the future. No matter what, the moves Elias makes before the trade deadline will let us know what he’s planning on doing in the winter because while our holes are minor, especially compared to most, the holes are noticeable and, if they’re filled, this team is a perennial fall classic favorite. If it was me, I’d get Miller and Helsley by sending Norby, Stowers, Bradfield and some lower prospects if needed, maybe even someone at the major league level if it’s going to free up space for guys like Mayo and Kjerstad to play everyday, and I’d get a #3 starter rental. Then I’d go into the winter and sign Burnes and Scherzer, unless there’s someone other than Scherzer that can be signed for a longer period of time at a lesser dollar value with somewhat similar results on the field to avoid the injury questions with Scherzer, but either way the point is two big top of the rotation starters and I’d like to see who beats this team next year. I think bullpens are more important in today’s game. Kansas City went to the playoffs multiple World Series with a mediocre offense and starting pitching staff as a whole, because of 3 ridiculous relievers. It baffles me that no one has repeated this process. Miller, Helsley, Bautista covers 4+ innings/game with lights out effectiveness. So I’d love to see Miller and Helsley, even if takes someone like Basallo and/or Bradfield Jr. (miller team control til ‘30, Helsley ‘26 - 2 year deal to Helsley and we have our big 3 till 2028)

    Fans see other players that have been proven too committing crimes and are still playing, while Bauer was cleared by the courts and the MLB yet, Bauer is blackballed! Why?

    Coby Mayo needs to be ON THIS TEAM the day after the all star game. Elias needs to get with the program! Kherstad needs to go. To the White Sox or A's.

    Orioles should not be looking at older pitchers, go after guys like Pirates' Mitch Keller, or Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski
