- The Ryan Ripken Show reacts to Jon Morosi's reports that say the Tigers have sent scouts to Orioles affiliate AAA Norfolk to look at prospects.
No matter what happens, judging by these comments 50% of the fan base is going to be angry. I seriously would’ve thought that Elias and his staff has, by now, earned the benefit of the doubt that whatever he ultimately decides is probably the right move.
He (they) do make a lot of great moves, I have total faith in what they do
Fact----Elias is the smartest person in the room.
Fact----The "armchair" GMs operate only in their own minds, not the real world.
Opinion---The Tigers will end up doing nothing regarding trading Skubal.
Skubal is filthy…. But he DOES have surgery on that arm. He DOES have 2 years of team control. He DOES give us a legit shot to win 3 games in the playoffs(He pitches 2 and Burnes pitches 1 in a 7 game series) but if you give up the farm and Lord forbid Skubal goes down, then you are toast….
Skubal won’t go down as tigers fan! People question his durability he is a pretty durable arm! He already got Tommy John out of way in college
The asking price for Trevor Bauer is extremely low, and doesn't cause you to sell the farm......
If you want a world series you make the deal, prospects are never a sure thing

I love these "fans" that are claiming Skubal is a rental. How can a player under team control for the next 2 years and this, be a rental? You Orioles fans do realize he is the BEST pitcher in baseball right now right? Youd be giving up 3 of your top prospects which may not pan out for a sure fire top ELITE pitcher. Its crazy how delusional some fan bases can be, you want to give up almost nothing to gain an ELITE if not the best player at his position period for 1 "maybe" good/great PROSPECT. You all have lost your damn minds. Id rather keep Skubal anyways if Im being honest, A lefty as dominant as he is, is so rare to find.
I realize your comment is an old post but I said the very same to the delusional Oriole fans when they insisted they didn't have to give up their top ranked minor league talent for this year's Cy Young Award winner. I was called "clueless". I predicted their pitching staff would fail them and an early exit in the playoffs would be forthcoming just like 2023 when the Orioles wasted an excellent year by not having a good rotation and yet had trade assets sitting in the minors to give them good pitching.

Be trading that for prospects. The truth is Holiday and Mayo are unknowns in terms of what they will be at the Major level. I absolutely think that package would be an even trade.
Very understandable ask. Tigers have to feel they are getting a deal that’s worth it.
For the Os, they got to decide if they want to give up players they view as future stars.

Even if the O's trade for Skubal, you still have concerns in relief. Nah, don't overspend. Wait till the off season.

Important to trust Mike Elias and his process(es). Important to be able to trust the development coaches. Important to remember why we have such a deep and stellar farm system. The O's suffered a lot in order to get those high draft picks. I am concerned with hanging on to as much of that farm as possible. It is very easy to have dreams of a big arm (Skubal, Miller, etc.) coming in and being the salvation and or the way to get to the post season and win big. I am cautious of that too. I am more confident in the team working with a different pitcher or pitchers, developing them and bringing out their best even though another team gave up on them. The Orioles have an excellent track record of doing this. Besides, one way to make up for a lack of pitching is to turn on the defense (which we have) and to let the bats rip (which we can at times) Just have to work on our offense a little more.
I think a lot depends on what our window with Gunnar and Adley is. Are we looking at 3-4 years, or 10-12 years? Extend those men, get some clarity!
O's should trade with Seattle for Gilbert and keep your top prospects.
Jackson can still be gunner quality good....man trading him would be tough
I think we should save as much of the farm as possible. Let's be honest before all the injuries to our rotation I say go all in for another arm but it's not just one we are in need of now. We lost alot of pieces in our rotation and to fill that void to get to the world series this year is gonna cost way too much. We need to sign arms in the off-season this year and have some kind of depth that way if we need to make a move it won't be to fill 3 out of 5 starters by the deadline. I know it will be a waste of Corbin burnes being here but he can't do it on his own and even with one more arm it's still gonna gonna take alot of things to go right for us. I just don't think we should clean the farm system out for a rental that will be here a few months when the ones we are letting go can keep us competitive for years. It's not like we aren't ahead of schedule with the rebuild already
Stowers is the highest id be willing to trade. I would rather give up multiple prospects between like 10-20. If we have the best prospects system in baseball, then that means our 10-20 is higher ranked than most as well.
The future of this team is gonna possibly see Mullins, Hays, Santander, Mateo, Urias all gone within about a year or two.
Then we look like Cubs after one ring and I think Elias is head strong to build us like Astros for years of contention
Those 10-20 prospects aren’t good enough to bring in a pitcher that can be a #2 or #3 for the playoffs. Either you go for the trophy, or you don’t, that’s the discussion. It’s a hard one.

If you feel Holliday is 100% untouchable, that means Mayo has a wall in his way to get to the bigs. e.g. You're giving Westburg a home at 3rd. That being said, would you be willing to trade Mounty? He still has two more years of controll and gives you gold glove quality 1st basemen play. I say this because, if Mayo is really untouchable too, where does it go?
The Os went all in when they signed Burns. At this point you can't waste this opportunity and not continue to to go in. There are only so many positions and the Os have to many prospects. They can't all play, and if the Os win the WS will anyone care who they traded. Not unusual for Baltimore fans to live in the world of potential regret, its just indicative of being a fan of Baltimore Baseball.
I think shelling out for a top tier pitcher with the pitching injury issues in the league is a flat out bad idea. It’s like going all in for a top tier running back. It’s not worth it to give up top prospects. Plus we traded a lot for Burnes a few months ago! That was their big move and they didn’t give away any top prospects for him! I say lean on a rotation of elite catchers.

I say Holliday or Sammy. Look Holliday is a boras agent along with gunner. Plus the Orioles just drafted 4 catchers. Do u want to spend 800 to 900 millon on 2 players. Plus when Holliday is a free agent in 6 to 8 years do u want to see him in a Yankees or Dodgers uniform.
For the Tigers Baltimore has enough but th y would have to start with Holiday and Mayo++ otherwise with 2.5 years left of team control no way th trade can be made. Yankees and Frankly Boston and Dodgers don't have enough. Again the Tigers are not really looking to make a trade. You also have to understand from Verlander, on all the top free agents the Tigers have traded have yeilded nothing so the tigers would need talent like holiday ready to plug and play not interested in players in A ball that never work out
Prospects are prospects, most don't ever pan out. Orioles top 3 prospects for Skubal is worth the risk for the Tigers.
and there is no way that the Orioles would even consider 2 of those top 3 for Skubal....that asking price is insanity....obviously, if they Tigers got that offer, they would take it in a heartbeat.
@@BryanMcFarland-i5k Skubal is 1 of the top 3 pitchers in baseball today, if not the top 1. Orioles would have control of him during his prime for 3 post seasons, he could put you over the top in the playoffs versus Tigers getting back 3 prospects, with Holiday probably being the only sure thing. Just look at Torkelson, he didn't pan out and once was considered the top prospect in baseball.
Amen. All of the people that don't want to give up the prospects.. The object is to win the World Series, not have the best farm system forever and never win the World Series. There can be a balance, but sooner or later you have to go for it and trade some of those prospects.
Skubal is that this year.....doesnt mean he will be next year.....doesnt mean he wont need TJ at somepoint either, there is still a risk he doesnt perform like he is now.....also holiday, bassio, mayo all 3 have a chance to be good MLB players. 1:49 ,@@AB-jr9ny

Skubal has had 1 stellar half season of baseball, and injury concern in the recent past. While he may very well be the best pitcher in baseball, he does not have the track record that affords him that kind of asking price. I would take 4+ years of control with a monster lineup that includes Mayo, Basallo and Holliday with the young guys we already have.
Skubal goes nowhere; trading him for prospects means starting over. Tigers cannot do that at this time. Flaherty will be the traded player, if the price is right.

I’m for giving up two great prospects to the Tigers, Mayo and one other, to offset the want for Holliday. We need Jackson for the future. Westburg and Urias have proven to be good at 3B. We need to pitchers and we need Holliday.

Holliday plus is the starting point. If Orioles don’t want to do it, then the tigers will be more than happy to keep Skubal.
@@thesjlawshow759From what I hear in Tiger land, the trade has become Holliday or Bust. Mayo and Basallo are great hitting prospects, but their gloves make them look like future 1B or LF, which unfortunately the Tigers have a stock pile of their own prospects. Jung at AAA, and Keith in the majors both look like 1B being forced to try other positions. That’s not to mention that I doubt they give up on Torkelson just yet, although it might be getting close.

You get 2.5 years of control with Skubal. Beyond his pitching that is why he is so valuable right now

@Nerulla skubal is one of the only ones with contract years that we are gonna get. Did you forget how flaherty worked out last year? His debut was good and that was it. You all really banking on just getting skubal like there isn't gonna be alot of other teams going for him is laughable. There's alot more pitchers other than skubal out there
@boblynn9168 you all do realize we have alot more holes to fill with our rotation than just one piece right? How many have we lost to season ending injuries this year ? How many pitchers are gonna be on the market that have never even pitched as many innings as they already have this year? There's an awful lot of risk with some of these pitchers you all want to trade the farm system away for. When we can go and get bauer for league minimum and another arm that won't cost part of the future and have even more depth at the position
