Now that is interesting. I used to pass through Gympie from either direction and have "known" it for something like 50 years. Someone once asked me what it was like and I swear I said the following: "Well, it's kind of a strange place. It has this air about it of "who am I, why am I here...?" It's now 20 years ago that I last saw it, but from what you are saying, it seems that it hasn't changed much.
The rattler is actually a lot better now that the line is half as long. By the third hour of the trip you've had enough which is good because that's when the train pulls back into Gimpy station. It's a nice day out of wine/beer/cheese + lunch. Well unless you buy a cheap seat, then it's just 3 hours of coal smoak and scenery.
i went on a cruise a few years back, sat at a table with a couple who came from Gympie. I said so what do you do in Gympie? They looked at me and said "Fuck all mate, why do you think we're on a cruise"
Gympie is also the poor shaming capital of oz. Where the locals may not be overly rich, but have a very dim view of their fellow poorer folk. We are also a very safe national party seat which is why it is the poor shaming capital of oz. I cut one of my heads off when I moved to widgee . 20 mins west of Gympie
Doesn't matter it costs a large fortune to live in Noosa/Sunshine Coast/Nambour they are all heading north so Struggle Town's got a new life for it mushrooming now expensive land and house packages on small arsed blocks of land just like the rest of South East Queensland.
Had a property at kandanga when they found the biggest cannabis crop in Queensland, was about 3 football fields in size, they got caught because seeds floated down the creek and started growing on some farmers property
You're in denial mate, I'd rather shit in my hands and clap rather than spend 5 minutes in Maryborough. Thank Christ, or whoever decided to build the highway around it.
I went to high school there in the early 90's. One day at school lunch a new student said "Gympie's a hole"... we all tended to agree... then she said "I want o go back to Bundaberg"...
I will give Gympie one thing, the farmland around it is gorgeous. Funny thing is I brought a falcon from there and it was “broken as” wouldn’t drive 5 minutes without limping, then I whispered to it “I’m getting you out of here” and it did the whole 4.5 hour trip home, near flawlessly 😊
It's a town where a highschooler shitting in a driveway gets into the news. It's fucking awful, my girlfriend can't walk through town to work without passing enough used needles to make you feel like you're in a hospital.
As someone who grew up here... accurate... Always fucking flooding. Many childhood memories moving stuff from shops to high ground when it was going to flood.
My pop and nan lived in Gympie, life was good for them, with the exception of one specific bloke who liked walking up and down their street, staring into houses. The bastard eventually broke in and stole a ring and necklace my mum bought for them. Non could be done because of the special status of his category of people.
It’s probably been said before. But if they moved all the commerce up to the old railway station site, which is currently home to about 100,000 feral rabbits, maybe the town planners could start making some sense of the areas that flood on a regular basis. And no matter what anybody says. As the population of south-east Queensland increases, the population of Gympie is going to increase accordingly. I guess the other way to do it is to build a massive block of townhouses on the old railway station site and feed everybody rabbits for dinner for six months. But a solution must be found.
lol I was staying in gympie for a night while passing through to brisbane and a flash flood came. I was stuck there for a whole week, thank god the house had water tanks because the town actually turned off the water supply and electricity for the whole week. I cannot believe I considered settling down there..
Well, that was entertaining, and beautifully filmed (except for the butt crack scene 😵💫). I have now subscribed to the channel, but with a heavy heart because of the knowledge that my civic pride will force me to unsubscribe when you one day come to my own home town and bag it out......

The only interesting thing about Gympie is The Amity Affliction are from there. Its no wonder half their lyrics are about dying.
W...T...F?!?!?! TAA is from fuckin GYMPIE????
Oh yeah, i completely forgot they were from there.
As someone who grew up in Gympie, I can attest that The Amity Affliction is indeed the biggest thing to come out of Gympie.

The funny thing about the highway that runs thru Gympie is that it was the original bypass that Gympie then got built around.
What the hell was it originally bypassing?

Maybe because of the current housing crisis, and also Central Queensland is know as the cheapest part of Australia to buy a house
