I arrived by ambulance at Caboolture on two separate occasions and to be really honest, I could not fault the care I received. The staff were very friendly and approachable, even on my second visit when I arrived in a very serious condition requiring around the clock care and attention. I must have apologised to the nurses and others a hundred times, whenever they had to clean me up, and each time they simply smiled and told me not to worry about that . . "it's our job to take good care of you". And the food? Brilliant! It almost made me reluctant to go back home again. So, say what you will; I'll never go along with people shit-canning my home town!

    • @arthurblackhistoric
      @arthurblackhistoric 21 день тому +5

@@joeblo1 . . You're right. But that good treatment extends to just about everywhere I go in my day to day life in Caboolture. By your own standard, if everyone is doing their jobs well, that translates to a town that has an overall good vibe and a positive attitude towards their fellow citizens. I'm not denying there's a bad element in town, but from what I see and hear, the police are doing their level best to contain all that.
I came up in Keperra in Brisbane's western suburbs where the street gangs had the attitude that they owned the streets. If you saw them coming, you'd best turn around and go some other way, and this was the case even in broad daylight! This situation persisted all the way into Gaythorne, where Jimmy's Burger Bar was the scene of weekly bloodbaths when the gang from Keperra came down to fight the gang from Gaythorne, with the gang from Mitchelton waiting to see who won, then they'd come out to fight whoever was left standing. Go over the river to the south side of Brisbane and it was no different. The Chardons Corner Hotel was the center of violence back in the day in that locality; the Stones Corner Hotel was likewise the focal point in that part of town, then we had the Holland Park Hotel and others. When I was a busy pro musician, the booking agencies used to book me exclusively at the slaughterhouse pubs because none of their other less brutal looking acts would play there for fear of the violence. I never had much of a problem at any of them to be honest. But just the same I credit my Christian faith for the lack of fear I evidently displayed. I used to have to pick out the pieces of broken beer glasses that would be stuck in my PA speaker boxes! In Caboolture the roughest pub was the Twisted Arm Hotel, AKA the Club Tavern. My band used to play there in 2009 and 2010 and management had an excellent system to stop drunken violence. That, combined with a couple of walk-throughs by police, ensured the safety of everyone in the venue.

I've lived in Caboolture South for over thirty years. Much of what you say is true to some extent, but probably not quite as bad.
I'm retired now and don't roam around to every part that often, but when I do, I don't get the sense of living in a dump. I don't see litter or graffiti everywhere, although the presence of shopping trolleys is more 'noticable' these days.
I used to drive buses between Caboolture railway station and Bribie Island, and there's definitely a feral element, but talking to drivers from other places that's not unique to the area.
The shortage of decent restaurants that don't resemble a mess hall is a bit of a bummer. No good pubs, either.
Other than that, everything is very accessible and close at hand.

Amazing how a few years can change things. My family bought 2 houses there back in like 2000 and lived there since, my grandparents died a few years ago and I left and my parents had moved a few years before that. But we liked the place, very rarely had any problems with all the druggies we kept hearing about, never really saw anyone homeless or that far down. Occasionally someone at the train station but for the most part it was people just commuting to and from their work just like any other train station. I used to park my car at the station, I tried bicycle for a while and that never got knocked off or anything. All the local businesses were good and clean. So I dont know what to believe, I heard all this stuff about drugs and crime when I lived there and yet saw none of it.

Came out of the train station and was immediately surrounded by about 7 youths, male and female, asking me for money. Fortunately my friend was there in her car at the right moment. Disgusting. Remember being angry the local police, council and railway did not have security staff patrolling. Glad I did not venture further.

I live north west of Caboolture but Caboolture is our main town. Its where our banks, hospital, specialists and high schools are so I have spent plenty of time here. To be honest, I have not seen any of the things this video talks about which is not to say it isn't there, its just not obvious. Due to the current lack of housing there are lots of homeless living in parks like everywhere else but Caboolture isn't unique in this. Myself and my family use the trains to commute to Brisbane and have had no issues which doesn't mean that there are no issues. Travel sensibly. The town moves along at an easy pace - its never hectic. People are friendly and always have time for a chat. They are genuine, down to earth and call a spade a spade. In many ways it retains the feel of a country town though like Brisbane it also has no respect for history and more than half of its historic buildings have gone. So even though it has a long history as a stop on the road to the goldfields in Gympie from the 1860s and later as a thriving farming and dairy area, most of the original buildings on King Street were removed or demolished from the 90s onwards in order to 'modernise' it. So, yes it lacks charm. House blocks are a generous size and it really is clean and tidy with very little graffitti or litter (unlike larger cities like Melbourne and its outter suburbs which I visited recently. We found that any shop that was empty was entirely graffitied). Caboolture is in a rain belt so it always gets rain when the rest of us seem to miss out. This might explain why it has so many large and established street trees making it a leafy, lush and somewhat tropical town.

This video really is an exaggerated cynical reflection of life in Cabo. I agree on some levels but it's a huge place and there are good things and good people here too. Schools wise Grace Lutheran College and St Columbans College attract a higher tier cohort and many families are well meaning and prosperous. Tullawong or Cab high have challenges though, the bullying is pretty bad and it stems from dysfunction in families and many kids need to learn how to solve issues without aggression but this requires culture shift. Easier said than done. I've travelled a lot and there are worse places than Cabo in Australia though from my perspective. I feel offended that lady with the border collie walks her dog diligently every day and she has a disability that's why she doesn't walk. Caboolture means carpet snake in indigenous language and sits on Gubbi Gubbi land. There are some beautiful natural spots in Cab, along the river and the large Centenary lakes park is really nice and well preserved, not safe at night though. Cabo is a huge place with pockets of goodness too which this video doesn't reflect, but there are streets you wouldn't feel safe to live. Low cost housing attracts a certain type of people but most people are NOT on meth, there are so many amazing social services workers, teachers and emergency services doing a brilliant job in this area.

This video was never intended to be remotely accurate. It was only meant for the creator to get popular by shitting over people less fortunate than himself. Instead of taking part in some charities or programs that could help alleviate some of the challenges Caboolture is facing, the creator thought he’d capitalise on their misfortune. In short: it says far more about the creator than the town itself.

Cabo kindof actually was Inala. I lived at Forest Lake about 25 years ago and Inalaians would sneak in and knock off all the FL homes because it was a new wealthier place. That was when there was a massive sell up of a lot of public housing homes in Inala and they ultimately moved Inala public housing to Caboolture.
At Inala the gov was selling freestanding homes for $7-8k a lot of builders bought them up and renovated them.
Now with a series of unfortunate events I find myself on King St for the last 6 months in a complex. A lot of people here have come from being homeless, even jail.
It’s been a culture shock for sure. This video was accurate. Most of the people in my complex are on something. Lots of drug deals have gone on. Gotta bolt stuff down or it’s gone. Regular visits by police.
We always have abandoned trolleys here, people just claim them, and that old Holden full of someone’s life’s possessions is always parked in that spot on Kings. Nice to see the familiar stuff I guess.
Caboolture definitely has a lot of people here that have experienced some hardship in life, myself included. Otherwise we’d have a choice in living somewhere else. Gotta make the best of things tho,
and to be fair there’s always nice people to befriend and ya need a few decent people to trust here and look out for each other.
I stick to myself, double bolt the door and now class myself as being agoraphobic.

As someone who resides here, its not as awful as the video makes it out to be (satire video i know) as someone who has lived in its surrounds (narangba, bellmere) i think the only reason its getting "worse" is because all the non addicts and non housing commission people have moved to surrounding places ( woodford, etc) before housing prices went up. Aside from the waytown areas, which also aren't laden with homeless and addicts like the video makes out, the place is excellently laid out.
You've got your fair share of homeless and addicted here, but i see more in logan, ipswich and even the valley when i play shows there, so id love to see a video on those if you've dumped on caboolure this bad.
Sure if you've lived in luxury and haven' had a hard life caboolture may seem like the worst place, but man has it improved since the early 2010's when you were asked for money everytime you went anywhere near public transport.

Thanks for shining a light on this dark shadowy place. Hopefully the negative sentiment keeps prices down.

Cabo and Ippy are on opposite ends of the same train line. That is no coincidence.

WHAT I like best about Caboolture is it's 45 minutes drive away from the beach and you don't have to drive through it to get to the highway. I NEVER go there. Fuck THAT 😂

My wife and I purchased a house in Caboolture 7 months ago, we moved from Narangba. You stated that everywhere is a shit hole, but that is not true. We live in a very nice area with young families who all go to work, and the houses are very nice and the lawns are pristine. I am a QA software engineer and my wife is a Pathologist. Yes, there are rotten parts of Caboolture but Narangba, that's meant to be nice is much worse than here. Our neighbours are great and we haven't had any hoons or shopping trolleys or anything of that nature around this neighbourhood. So, it's not all bad, and there are new estates with professional young people who are moving there, so we are not all meth heads!!

I'd find it funny that Australian's are finally waking up to their towns becoming trash after two decades+ of decadence.
However I've lived near caboolture for a decade myself and now I have to deal with the BS caused by it.
Although as someone who's currently in jacksonville florida for the next six months and as someone who grew up in LA near skidrow/compton I can say things are still far from that bad in queensland but give it 20 years of this and who knows how that will be.

I remember one time we drove through the street where they say a lot of crime goes down. In the space of 3 minutes there were about 5 cop cars with the sirens on. It was a real sight tbh, growing up in Caloundra you’d be hard pressed to get any cops helping you 😅

Lived in Caboolture for three months in the late 90s, we had family who had joined the obed mission cult there. Thank goodness we got out and away quickly.
