Watch all the way until the end to hear the band's reaction when they hear the judges' rating of their performance.
Rings, a commissioned piece by Frank Ticheli is a dramatic conflict between the two extremes of human existence - one divine, the other evil. Did you see the angel wings at the end of the second movement?
The first movement represents the battle between heaven and hell. The second movement is the calm after the battle, and the third movement is the angles rebuilding heaven.
The Allen High School Band (Allen, TX) received a perfect score, a first division rating from each of the judges for this performance at the University Interscholastic League Region 25 contest held in Plano, TX.
A small loan of a million trumpets
Hunter Dawson XD
Hunter Dawson if donald trump was a band director. wow I just replied to a 10 month old comment
Hunter Dawson Marry me
Jesus Christ where the hell do they even rehearse?!?!
Leo Kavanaugh a practice field
@@MichaelMyers6789 hell
Literally our show this year
"Perfect"? Who was judging, their parents?
+ikarooz It's only 1-4. Easy to get all 1s
+Taylor Crockett well there is 3 judges and they drop the lowest and highest score and the middle is what the score is so it is pretty easy to get a good score
Actually 1-5
Wow, my band has about 70 members all together.
that feel when you're one of six sousa players...and then you see between 20 and 30 sousas (and contras maybe?)
That moment when youre one of two Sousa players.
What a gimmicky band. Could easily have one of the best bands in the nation with 150-200 and another good one with the remainder. Instead, decides to pretend to be a college band and moves around the field like one too.
Stop being so negative bucko. I'm not overly impressed with AHS Band, but gotta love their enthusiastic participation
Kenneth Mills the band and guard has put 167+ hours into this show. With numerous rehearsal the students and parents all put lots of effort into making this organization the best it can be.
trendyteenzvlogs But that's every band that's competetive. All the bands at Area C started our shows long before Allen ever did.
Jacob White Which band? If you started "long before Allen ever did," you're breaking University Interscholastic League rules and need to be reported because the entire band is ineligible to participate.
My class 6a band is tiny compared to this my band only has 260 Marching and 300 in total
how many mellophone players do they have
Deborah Neidlinger a lot
Also some visuals in those holds would be nice. 🤷♂️
Director: T83, you're 10 centimeters off your dot move to your left
Issa Bino 😂
Lmao!!!!!
Bru fr tho
The flute section could literally form a 3a band on their own yet I still can't hear them
Killer Queerstar Omg yes
Killer Queerstar i know right
Goof
Rip to whoever writes their drill
True
Names are not necessary so true
Syd Metz RIP TO THE STAFF THAT HAS TO CLEAN THE DRILL LOL
Rip to the people who have to learn the drill!
Everyone has to learn drill... not that hard
I came from the smallest to the largest marching band. Lol
Same.
PostSpoon
same
For real man.
same tho
imagine how much it is for buses.
Has
Daniel Mahanpour ??
Allen is very highly funded as they have a top football team and a stadium that cost over a million dollars. Buses probably don't present much of a problem for them.
my bad it actually cost 60 million lol
Justin Fuller which one costs 60 million oh my
when your band is probably the size of their guard
When your band is probably the size of the tuba section...😕
same were ls2 and 61 people
x xkristinex x I'm in guard, we only have 14 people but we love it 😄 We're more of a family that way. In total are band has 87
x xkristinex x when your band is the size of their pit
milkteas when your band is the size of their tubas
The Poor Band Director has to remember all of thoes names..
taking attendance must take awhile too
+Desire_Orbit For real!!! haha
+Desire_Orbit we usually have designated scanners and when everyone enters the band gal, scan in to take attendance
Or each person gets a code (Letter Number) like mine does
Mine has the cymbal players walk around with the sign in sheet for practice and has everyone sign in so the BD doesn’t have to
yet you still cant here the flutes/pics
What flutes?/s
lol
Rally Grote What did you expect lmao
i could hear them in the last cord
More WOODWINDS, LESS brass.
They must hate choir
Maybe they do both
Blobfish and orchestra
No they just have a ridiculous amount of students, the number of students there is over 6,500
@@BlaineAussie thats alot..
lol now thats funny
did they bring their whole school or what omg
sorariin allen has 5000 students
@@hannahbrook2002 so about 10 schools
So I just did the math, they would need roughly 15-17 buses to carry everyone, a bus normally seats 56 people. if they get buses to be used all day, then that would be roughly $13580.36 per day for all buses and if they were to only need it for about 5 hours it would be Roughly $6032.72 per 5 hours..... Not including Gas which is $3.50 per gallon charged.
I'm not finishing this
Winston R - (17) buses for band and color guard, chaperones and directors.
Want to calculate something fun? Think of away games when band has to eat dinner on the way... (Usually Chick-fil-A.) Then calculate trash and how/where to dispose of it. The logistics in every detail will blow your mind.
Winston R Band goes to McDonald's after to get food. Manager "okay im gonna need a head count for how many people your bringing over" band director (im guessing theres about 300 people in this band) "about 300" manager "okay im gonna need to get 7 more restaraunts delivered before your arrival"
you're way off, its more like 500
We have right around 740 members... and we are fed chic-fil-a only if we are going to away games... and the band uses 18 buses
@@texastechredraiderfan what high school sends bands to away games
this band has an advantage cause there's so many people and they can't see everyone at once and they can get away with many people in the wrong set and they could still get a perfect score. they sound great though.
nah lol
Not true, with a band this size, their lines still have to be perfect.. they had some seriously "wavy" straight lines :D
XeroRez I don't agree. If the judges were at the press box, then yes, they wouldn't get away on some sets with straight lines.
Ah I see what you mean there. In most competitions you would think that the Judges would be in the Press box, there is absolutely no sense in them not being there unless it is for a DCI type contest, then it makes more sense to be on the field. I totally understand your view though! IF the Judges are on the field, then I totally agree with you.
I would say many people can get away not playing... Since in smaller bands, everybody must support, but in bigger bands, you don't know who is playing and who isn't. Since I am in a smaller band and I will have to blow my face out for each competition, just so they won't say where is the Clarinets?!?!
Our 92 person marching band looks miniature compared to this.
Seriously. My band (KCHS) looks like nothing compared to these guys. Love the Pantera icon R. I. P. Dimebag
800+ now, when this video went up there was 600+, and my band has only 60
Can't beat 36 members in marching band!
YoMamasTacos right?!?!?! there's 93 people in my band
92? About the size of the trumpet section. Maybe less
There comes a point where it's just too many people and they should just have two shows 😂

When it comes to a band this size they need to be really careful about their sound and how loud they play. Louder isn't always better. It seemed like the whole time they were just blasting as loud as they could. There was no crescendos or any sort of dramatic noise change. As a member of a large high school marching band I can tell you that it's not fun being told you play too loud. Our director is always telling us to play quieter. So just keep in mind the size you guys are and that you need to exaggerate everything. When your supposed to be quiet be almost to quiet. Also choose more upbeat song selections like pop music. This will engage the crowd faster and people will love your sound quality.
Erika Muzik Nicely written comment, but were we listening to the same video? I heard dramatic volume changes (listen to 1:00-1:09 when they get in the box shape at the beginning) and many crescendos throughout. Too many to list, but in the 2nd movement the closer that it gets to the solo at 5:10 - say, starting around 4:45 or so?, there seems to be some pretty obvious changes.
This band has no problem with "crowd love." In one of the play off games when the opposing team whined & officials said the band couldn't play when they had the ball, the crowd went ballistic. Insulted that their band wasn't going to be allowed to play, the crowd was about 4x louder than the band & the opposing team had 2 false starts which might have been the two plays that caused them to to lose the game.
Are you currently in high school, or did you just graduate? You point out some good feedback, but I wonder if you have watched this band live to really understand how well (or bad) their sound is in terms of volume. A mistake we all make is judge by the UA-cam video, because this was obviously not the best camera to record audio. You get virtually no bass and all high winds, especially trumpets.
yes i am currently a sophmore in highschool. Unfortunately, ive never seen this band perform live. i also understand that the band may sound different live. However, a camera is made to pick up every sound element, so the camera is not to blame in this situation. As a member of a highshool band with 380 people, i know that one of the most important aspects of playing with such a large band is sound quality within the different instruments. We are taught to know when our time to stand out as a section is and when to back of a little and let the other sections have at it. Another thing we are taught as a band is that bigger isnt always better when it comes to sound, everybody knows that a band with 300 people is going to play louder than a band with 50 people, being able to have those volume differences is what sets a big band apart from a smaller band. My band always plays pop music because its a crowd pleaser, its different, and we all get really into it. We have had great success with pop music as we have won states every year since 2004 and have been going to disney to play in the parades and perform live for over 10 years. As i said in my previous comment, you really nedd to exaggerate the sound differences or you guys will end up sounding muddy or just like one big block of sound. Our band had the same issue last football season, its a law in Connecticut (where were from) that you cant play while game play is occuring. The football team was very mad that we couldnt play because it really got them pumped to play and even the opposing team loved it. The crowd was extremely mad, most of the crowd was alumni who had come back to hear the band. In the end, being in a big band has its ups and its downs and sound quality is a down.
+bccadet07 Yes! It was recorded on my cell phone! The emotion of a live performance is completely different.
Be sure to watch The Allen Escadille perform New Years Day at The Rose Bowl Parade. (They'll also march at Disney Land during their trip to California.)
+Erika Muzik My high school band was only around 80 (anything over 200 for a high school is big to me). Anyway, if you are a sophomore in high school, you have been trained very well. I never had that maturity until at least my senior year, then I majored in music and marched DCI. But anyway, once you have been trained by your director, you do hear bands differently and make critical comments, which is good training for you as a musician. It's a good start on your journey, so keep it up.
I'm sorry, but the judges must not be that credible. There's no way that was a perfect score, no band gets a perfect score. Don't get me wrong, this is cool and all, but wayyy to many people.
DizzyGEICO indeed
Is this a 4A babd lol
No one will ever get a perfect score. Except blue devils and high school marching band judges.
For this certain contest, perfect scores are a gimme. The judges basically say "good luck have fun" to the judges of the next competition, which is much more difficult contest.
No band gets a perfect score? Idk if you know how this works but this is UIL Regionals, it's not that hard to get a perfect scores. It's normally 3 judges and they rate you 1, 2, 3, 1 being the best. They got all 1's which isn't too big of an achievement.
Haha you forgot 4 and 5 but who wants to talk about those scores anyway lol.
Imagine peoples ears in front on low brass or trombones JESUS CHRIST
Tyler Aber dude at one set I’m straight in front of a line of baritones and they have to play ff and I go deaf
You could make some hella dope visuals.
Notice my original name True
Perfect score? The was a good show, and deserves high scores, but not a perfect score. Those judges must not be that credible.
Perfect score my ass.
UIL is grades how well you can preform your show in different areas such as visual and musical with a score of 1-5. If you are able to preform up these grading standards in a one. A band that is able to preform all of these catagories well will get all 1's, a "perfect score."
My band has a whopping 20 winds, 9 guard, and 8 percussion (4 battery, 4 pit).
Their drill is still is cleaner than ours. XD
Hannah Lael any tubas
We are a AAA and have 10 times as many as that
Just imagine how good they could be if they only fielded like the best 200
There color guard needs a lot of work.they need more training by better choreographer
+Al Bryant This show was his first year, as someone in the band, I can say he has defiantly gotten better at making sure they are consistent.
I agree their biggest issue was staying together
ive never seen a pit with two aux sections this is cray
We have 2 racks and only 12 people in pit at my school, one has some cymbals and stuff and the other is like a drumset, toms, cymbals, snare, and a pondero.
Nice. My pit has five people and one of them is a drum major XD
I can tell all of you commenting are 1 of 2 or both:
1) Aren't from Texas so don't appreciate how cool this actually is
2) Are freshman who think they know everything about (marching) band
Lol so true
actually i was in this marching band (i live in allen)
Yeah no, this isn't cool. This is sloppy, to many people. This is a mess, it doesn't sound in tune at many parts (audio?) and many hits just are not together. Its an okay band, but if they split into different bands they could get some good stuff done.
seti young and you must be a freshman
seti young I’m jk m8
Just imagine the work the band leader has to do for this!!!
They probably have a TON of staff members on the field.
+antivenomworld
true...
Yall woodwinds better play out, we can't hear you that well, unless you're supposed to play p or pp
mason fuller how many tenors
Can I get on of our 7 million staff members to T407
Needs less people and more drill
Less people means different sound and more drill even with what they have left over would still be super hard
Take consideration of just let’s say 200 takes up a good portion of that field already and this is more than 200 way more...
What division? It has to be 9A
+Videogamewalkthrou Allen is 6A, the largest that Texas has available.
+Texas Tech Red Raider Fan - Jill Kelley Cobb county GA can go up to 7A
+Solution For Your Problems but they combine 5,6, and 7 and make them open
this band is literally a quarter of my school I guess everything IS bigger in Texas
I almost went to this school...
U should try to
Daniel Mahanpour Nah, I like where I go.
Marie Loy LUCKY
I would of gone here!!!!!!!!
How big is there school population that there band can be this big
the first band ever to have a color guard that knows what they are doing
Look up my band. Homestead Spartan Alliance Band
I agree. I'm in the color guard and we actually have our first game of the year tonight, which is my first game ever because I'm a freshmen, I'm so excited but we need to work things out because we're in sync when we're off the field but when doing the drill and the sets and everything then we screw up and end up almost hitting other color guard people (which I'm really annoyed about because I remember exactly where I need to go but others don't and they end up taking my spot on the 35) but in practice today hopefully we sort things out.
I know how you feel my friend. I'm a freshmen too our first competition is on the 17 and since our band is so large there is a lot of people who mess up. I know my placement and stuff but it's kinda hard to get there cause I have to get there in 4 counts backwards marching and it's a tempo of 170. I'm unfortunately really bad at backwards marching.
Good luck then. We'll probably get it down at one point though- there's still much to come since it's just the beginning of the year. God I'm nervous. I shouldn't be up this late but it's the night before I start high school. So antsy right now!
+A Duck Person Yeah I shouldn't be up either... I have school tomorrow too. I have after school practice Wednesday so fortunately we'll be practicing the hard sets more.
LOL My band has like 50 people...
Samuel Heavener oh dear same!
HOLY CRAP THATS A LOT OF BAND KIDS
I thought my band of 170+ kids was big haha
And I thought 150 memberswas a lot.
But this, this, is huge to my standards.
Jesus Christ. the low brass section is almost the size of my 4A band
Bands to big.my band of 150 could sound as loud as you can. Just playing louder with better tone. Forms are pretty bad. But that's expected with. A band this size. Our band doesn't deny anyone the right to join. However for marching we have 3 parts. Color guard, marching, prop crew. You audition for marching and if you fail to make you become prop crew. The marching is SOOOOOO slow pace since you have so many people. You guys also have like 4 base drums. 7 cymbals 4 quads, and 4 snares this not really big enough for this band size. You should be able to hear the drumline
Exactly, they should at least double the battery, my first thought when I heard of this band was that they should split it in half, I understand it's a very large school but this is ridiculous
How about we take the trumpets...
And PUUUUUSH them somewhere else?
Joshua Gentile Hahahaha
Yeah, I'm in this band this year. It's a lot of fun, however it's very hard to get everything perfected with a group size, however it doesn't look like the district will approve of another high school.
Alex K. What do ya play? I march for Vista ridge. I play sousa
They aren't bad but could easily be better if they had two bands and not trying to be rude but I saw way to many mistakes for a perfect score and I'm not even a judge
I love when it got quiet because the microphone couldn't handle the overwhelming amount of sound coming from the brass.
let’s take a moment to appreciate that pit since no one else ever does
LMAO
My band only has like 50 people rip :')
But we still sound amazing.
It's extremely easy to have that kind of sound with a band like that. My band did a hit with only the brass section that was twice as loud and CONTROLLED.( I heard so many extremely bright sounds coming from the trumpets on the first hit) and we still had a lot of room to grow
I understand they are big but color guard is way off, pit crew is off in timing and the poor woodwind section is drowned out by coronets. I use to judge tournaments and this was an 83.3 at best because of the points and lsck of movement/formations. But overall...well done
There's so many more things you could do visually and sound wise with over 700 people on a field. Overall it is great. I'm sure managing this many people is a challenge in its own.
Good marching band overall, overrated though. Several people are out of step and their distances are a little off. The sheer size of the band covers it though. 7/10 ish from me
Their pit takes up are whole marching band 😂 PS. I'm a snare player for north Marion high school (Florida)
Entirely too large. Should split into Varsity and JV bands. They don't have the sound of an 800 piece band.
I don't see why they get all the hard. Sure they aren't amazing but they're still pretty good and as far as I can tell that intro hit was pretty dang loud
How do you write drill for that SEESH. My band only has 5 guard girls and 63 people in total
My marching band is 105 people; I thought our band was large.
There's honestly almost too many of theme. There's so much to see
Back in 2001 or so, I heard that my high school's marching band was about this size. Now, we have about 150.
My schools band wouldn't be that big if everyone n the whole school joined
My skool only has 50 people.. My district only has 598 people
anybody else here The Cadets 2011 show??
Yes!! But this is dirty and boring
When a marching band is either too big or too small, formations may not be the best. If they are too big, there isn't much room to move around. If it's too small, they aren't enough people to make the formations. I am actually going to be in the Homestead Alliance Band, which is about half the size of this. They are good with their formations
+Brendan K I agree. The formations just are too crowded to make any sense out of when they are moving.
In Indiana?
+Nahtanoj Enotsylb Yeah
Literally a wall of sound. Like 20 tubas is unbelievable.
My band played this last season. Such a great piece.
My schools band is often the biggest in all the parades and football games not including our drill team (we’re around 70 but we’ve been on the rise back to the peak of our band and southern show style as a whole. We’re Southern Show style btw). But this is just a big ass band to put it simply. That band is easily 4 times bigger than mine. I dug the performance a lot.
Salvador Martinez - Actually it's about 11 times bigger! Glad to know you're on the rise. Band is a great experience and anyone who has an opportunity should take advantage of it!
when your band gets to the point where you cant count the number of Sousaphones you have on your fingers. your band is way to big. a band of 80 people is good, 90 is pushing it, 100 maybe. anything over that is, in my opinion, just gross. the music is good. its just... that many people on a field at once....
brody bergstrom you can get a good band with 200+ if you have a large enough staff and everyone wants to be there
.....all those flutes oh my.
5:28 that one trumpet is louder than the entire woodwind section
My band is much smaller yet our show lasts longer.
Being a soloist in this band must've been like a gift from god
When their band is larger than your school by like 200 people XD
Too many people. Doesn't look good, doesn't sound good.
They technically have to march this many. High schools have to let people that pay the fees and can play and march the music march the show
You would honestly be surprised. With this show Allen made finals in probably one of the most competitive "areas" in America for marching band, 6a area B. This district had the likes of Marcus, Hebron, LD Bell, and Flowermound. All of whom have either won the state marching contest, or were BOA grand national finalists at some point. Allen went head to head with the big boys that year, and has only gotten better since. Literally Allen was one of the better bands in Texas that year
Kyle Hanson because they're big, lol.
It's easy to clean drill when sets are crazy close to eachother, and when there's such a cluster of people on the field you can't even tell with form. All that matters with this band is are their feet in time, and do they sound well. Obviously they're going to sound well with 20+ people in each section, and the top 5 players drowning out all of the mess that is the lower
*top ten players
Don Glover they got second at boa, so clearly they're not awful. I'm not even part of their band
my band only has like 35 members.....
When your band is the size of their pit
You know what they say: everything is bigger in Texas.
Rest in piece to my iPhone 8 speakers
aah this is my high school
Cade West your school has a shitty band
This is most likely an 8a band
I actually really like that first hit
YESS I LOVE CIRCLES
Rachel Welter This is my favorite commenT
Like, do they have enough kids left for a football team?
J. Cordero there football team is massive. Allen high school has about 6,000 kids. Yes.
Damn my band is always the last to perform for every competition bc we are so big but this is ridiculous what division would this band belong to.....
+Erin Han Allen High School is 6A. In Texas, it's the largest. The Escadrille marched in the 2016 Tournament of Roses Parade and was the first band to perform!
Cool! My high school band marched in the 2012 and 2016 rose parade. The size of this makes our band look puny!
They need a bigger field
my band has 41 people in it...
Lol my old highschool had 25
45 here
What's sad is that they still aren't louder than a Dci band.
Jason Martinez easy for the people not playing to go unnoticed with the amount of people there are. The bigger the band the more disadvantages in all areas
My school band it's like 3/4 or half of theirs
Cerra Barrett mine is like 1/24 of theirs 😂
Oh look a 20A band
This was lame... Where is FAMU Marching 100?
OMG THEY USED THE SAME MUSIC AS MY BAND FOR THE FIRST SONG!!! Obviously different arrangements but the same song. I've heard other bands that I've actually had to compete with use the same music as well. Must be popular.
Just a cluttered mess. Have actual try outs. It's ok to tell a kid no because they're not good at something... no matter how much money their parents have. Spoiler alert. No broke people live in Allen. You can't give them an honest score. The blow back would be costly.
As good as this is, I don't think it deserves a perfect score. Maybe upper 80s lower 90s at most. It sounded good, but the only musical part was the trumpet solo. There were times when guard was not together and there were bad intervals in certain sets. That did not deserve a perfect score, but it was still very good. Just needs some fine tuning to make it unbeatable
i feel bad for them. my highschool band has like 50 something including guard lol. we actually increased in number this year pretty significantly but idk how much. I feel like with having a huge band there would be no bonding with the band as a whole. there is also probably a lot of drama that goes on I bet. I love my small band because we are so closely knit and we are all really good friends. Our band director has a good relationship with each of us too. Also despite our size we get straight superior ratings
Director: Do you guys have a 300 yard field?
Judge: Uh NO.
Director: Alright fuck it, we'll make it work.
This is really quite impressive. If you look at their overall technique, it's not that bad, and they have a ton of people so it's twice as hard to make anything look clean.
HOLY JEEZ
Some sloppy marching but it's bound to happen with a band this size but they seem to get lost in their sound at some points, the impacts are pure perfection but many things in between just seem a little dirty and dry, otherwise fantastic execution for this many people
my band (lhs bengal regiment) had the highest rated percussion in vba this year which was both pit and battery. we had 25 people across both sections and their pit alone is like 30 people
