Farewell to the Talgo 6 Sets: A Chase from Seattle to Portland

After being retired as a result of the 2017 Dupont Derailment, and sitting in King Street Station for 8 months, the last two Amtrak Cascades Talgo 6 sets are being shipped off to Los Angeles to be scrapped or sold. These train cars served well for the past 20 years, so it’s unfortunate to see them go. Nonetheless, I had fun chasing this train down basically the entire Seattle Subdivision and through Portland. Hopefully the future of Amtrak Cascades is bright for the years ahead, but we’ll see what happens.

The 8’s were shortened during the pandemic for whatever reason and those are the spares.

Originally we were supposed to get the Wisconsin sets but as of now it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any more Talgos. :(

As far as I know, they’ll be used on the Horizons until the new Talgo 8’s arrive, and by then they’ll be retired or scrapped, I dunno.

@@TanVasinTrains the Talgo series 8 will be running along side new siemens venture car sets in the future the other two series 8's for wisconsin will be going to Nigeria, Lagos for a metro project

Yes, or they’re in storage in both Chicago and LA. There was a photo that came out recently of one of the sets being scrapped, and looked like it was in LA (where these two sets were headed), judging by how sunny and warm it looked outside.
