  • Jan Zelezny broke the javelin world record on 06/04/1993 with a distance of 95.54m in South Africa. Off the back of his recent world title victory, Zelezny competed in Sheffield and in ideal conditions he threw just short of the record in round 2 but exceeded it by 12cm in round 3. At the time of posting this video these two throws are the second and third longest in history behind his 98.48m set in 1996.

    Incredible talent, perfect technique, his run up does not slow at all into the throw. Unbeatable. So many muscled up throwers these days. Lots of big talk and predictions. So many with one or two or a few big throws and then they fade away. Zelezny is legend.

      Because that time javelin was in different shape which could be maximum thrown above 100-105 m but now it's shape and weight is changed and centre of gravity of jevlin is shifted clooser to the tip and not in centre this is done for the safety of players as many events are being played side by side like long jump shutout hammer throw discuss throw etc in a same foeld

    Bolt has shown dominance over a couple of years and speeds people could never imagine, but Zelezny shown distances far greater than any big javelin thrower has ever achieved (with the modern javelin at least). I think it's really hard to compare!

      kimmern999 Because athletes wouldn't eat that. There is no benefit at all. It will only set them back, and athletes don't have their whole life to train for the Olympics(or whatever competition).

    • @kimmern999
      @kimmern999 8 років тому +2

      Tom Visser Not true at all. There are many top athletes that are more concerned about getting the needed calories than eating what people label "healthy". Mostly long distance runners and athletes competing in weight categories (like weightlifting, boxing or olympic wrestling) need to watch their weight and thus watch their diet carefully. In sports where it is more important than to build muscles/mass or make sure to keep up with the energy consumption, calorie intake is more important than anything. Besides, there are a lot of calory rich McDonalds/Burger King dishes that are not particularly unhealthy.

    • @Koozwad
      @Koozwad 8 років тому +2

      I doubt any proper athletes would eat burgers and fries instead of healthier calories. There's too much unnecessary crap in junk food.

    Yes, hence the "(in comparison)".......-.- 2nd best javelin thrower ever (with the latest model) is roughly 5.5% worse than the best javelin thrower of all time. Let's say the same difference in performance would occur on the 100m. Usain Bolt is the fastest man ever and runs it in 9.58s. If he was as dominant as Zelezny then the 2nd fastest man ever over 100m would only do 10.11s... Puts stuff in to perspective doesn't it? (rough estimates sorry internet)

      @@Stuka-eo2sz Originally it was changed because of Uwe Hohn true, but there were still loopholes in the rules which helped javelin manufacturers create javelins that fly further than others with the same exact throw until the end of 1991, after which the current javelin has been a standard for everybody. For example Seppo Räty threw a world record 96.96m which such a javelin, but the record was later nullified.

      @@kanqquperze yes, that was I believe 1991, they stopped making them right after they were banned, I believe also in 1991, they had grooves on them to supposedly help with aerodynamics or whatever, but I seriously doubt zelezny ever used one maybe once or twice for testing purposes but I think zelezny never did that at all never used a grooved javelin.
