- These are the filming locations throughout the state of Vermont that were used for the movie "Funny Farm." I have tracked down nearly all the locations that were used in Vermont during production of this movie to create this video. Some images and clips were used as Fair Use for educational purposes to make this video.

It was great. It’s a shame they don’t make good movies like it anymore. Seems like everything now has to have DEI. And I’m just sick of the wokeness they don’t care about good acting or story line. That’s why I quit watching tv and going to the movies.

It’s a very underrated movie IMO. I used to love it years ago and still crack up at it today. It was very cool to go visit these locations, especially the house. It’s so beautiful there!
Of all Chase's films, this one possibly best acted...

What a piece of heaven. My husband and I have recently been redbudded due to our idealism. “We can fix it up!” Yada Yada Yada, we are enjoying our two ducks.

Such a classic and funny movie! I've been watching since I was like eight or nine. Although it's not a Christmas movie, it's a tradition for our family to watch it every Christmas. The movie did end on Christmas so it counts in my book.
I love this movie too and I agree, while it’s not necessarily a Christmas movie, it very much has a Christmas flavor!

@@ComeSeeWithMeit must have been surreal being there. I've watched this movie since I was a kid. I am 46 now. The house pretty much looks exactly the same and so does the little town. Did they film inside the house? Looks so peaceful there
It was extremely cool being there. Yes, they did indeed film in the house. In fact, the homeowner (he still owns the house to this day) told me he was paid to move out and they even moved his furniture and belongings into storage to empty the house for filming. He was away a couple months during production.

I visited last summer, but funny enough. I was just back there several weeks ago and made a new and improved version of the video that included a couple scenes that were missing from the one you watched. This new version featured the locations for Mack’s house and for the Sid’s Hideaway bungalows location. Yes, it very much felt like I was standing in a movie set in a lot of these places. I totally went up to the house and met the homeowners and ask for permission first. I never would’ve just start wandering around on the property without doing so. They were very nice and let me spend some time to see what I wanted to see so I was very grateful for that.
Urban legend says that Crum Peachtree and Sheriff Ledbetter went out drinking and they were the ones who crashed into the gazebo. Lmao 🤣

Amazing Video... I have Always wanted to see how the House looked today. So Cool you got to see it up close. Funny farm is one of my Favorites, Thanks for doing this.
Thanks very much. I have always loved this movie too and I have wanted to see and visit all these locations for years. It finally all lined up for me to see and visit, but the trip was going to be made or broken based on whether or not I could see the house and the house property, as that part was the centerpiece location. Thankfully, the homeowner was gracious enough to let me look around, which really helped me put this video together. Talk about a beautiful place to live too…they have a slice of heaven they’re living on there. Very beautiful!

Thanks man! I was in Townshend several years ago but I was running out of daylight and only saw the little square. When I saw your video a couple years ago I knew it was one I was going to try and hit too. I love this movie! The two places I couldn’t nail down myself were Mack’s house (where the movers ask for directions) and Sid’s hideaway bungalows (the little cabins where Andy takes Elizabeth). If you ever come across any info on where those places are please keep me posted. I was excited to find the picnic spot and I really wanted to see it because I was aware of it in Forrest Gump and how it’s a popular farm to photograph. I found some information on the ball diamond online but it wasn’t correct, nothing ever quite matched up. So I dug a little deeper and found the right place. I had to do some research but finally figured out where the Redbud sign was located.. I’m happy to shed any light on something you may need but something tells me that won’t be necessary. Ha ha
I also couldn’t believe how amazing the property was for the house they used in the movie. That was simply breathtaking there. They literally own a piece of heaven. I told the homeowners that and they laughed but I meant it. I also didn’t realize how high up on a hill it was. My first trip to the house I parked in the little village and walked the road all the way up to their house. It was a lot steeper than it appears in the movie.

Is the ball field right next to the mill pond? I was only able to match from above on google maps after my visit. Is that the right spot??
@@ComeSeeWithMe omg the house and property are special. What a place to visit, especially for fans of the movie. We both caught great days of weather. I parked down the driveway lol. You walked from the downtown area. We had lunch at the deli/cafe, good eats.
The ball field is in Hartland right behind the rec center. One of the movie site locations had it listed at the old school but that is incorrect. Copy and paste the coordinates below into google maps and it should drop you right on the field:

I think it’s a very underrated comedy. I used to love watching it and still do. I feel like it’s one of those movies that not a lot of people have seen, but anyone who has watched it seems to like it. Definitely some funny parts to it. And there were some beautiful areas that they used to film it in Vermont. I really enjoyed finding those places, especially the house and that property.

Thanks very much! And I agree about the property. I literally told the homeowners that they have a piece of heaven there. And what I show doesn’t even do it complete justice. They own property that extends beyond what you see, and the house is perched much higher up on a hillside than it appears in the movie. The little village of Grafton (which is very close to the end of the driveway to their property) is very nice as well. They have an amazing thing going there and I’m glad they let me explore it a little. This filming location video was going to be made or broken on whether they let me visit their property. Fortunately, they did. If I was unable to, I likely was going to pull the plug on doing the rest of locations because this was the main location and was the centerpiece to all of it. It was certainly the highlight of all the locations for this video for me.
We idealize it due to the movie but I think a lot of us would go nuts if we lived there. Literally in the middle of nowhere!

I agree, I wouldn’t call it a Christmas movie, but it does have elements of Christmas in it. I don’t necessarily watch it any particular time of the year like you do. But I always try and rewatch it every year or so. It still cracks me up every time.
I grew up in Grafton, and it always bugged me that the Farmers had a mail man, when in reality, there was no mail delivery on that road! 😆
I see your point. But you know how movies go, there’s often things added to enhance the story. If you take away the mail carrier then you take away Crum and he’s one of the funniest characters of the movie IMO. That said, I really enjoyed my visit to Grafton. Such a beautiful place! In fact, I’ve been back twice in each of the past two years. The house and property they used as the Farmers is a piece of heaven. That’s a dream house/property type of a place for me. The entire time I was visiting I couldn’t help but think how amazing it would be to own that and live there.

I saw this film in 1988 when it released. But I have to admit, it wasn't my fav. I was 12. My parents took me, they love Chevy. I do too, but more in a Fletch role, or Three Amigos... This film always felt like it was made of recycled scripts and jokes. Wealthy city slickers go to the country - fish out of water - yadda yadda. I don't know, it just never clicked with me.
As for random trivia, the moving truck was a 1968-72 Ford F600 and it was a retired U-Haul rental van. It was repainted for the film, but you can see the U-Haul Orange in the cab scenes with the movers. Vans of that type were retiring from the fleet at that point in the mid 80's. They were replaced with some 25' Ford F700's in 1985, 24' GMC C6500's in 1987, and a big batch of 1988 Diesel International 1600's 26' box trucks. U-Haul will run a large box truck line for 15-20 years. U-Haul doesn't advertise anywhere but the yellow pages. The fleet is the advertising, people know U-Haul just by seeing the fleet across America. But in the 80's, they were doing all kinds of crazy things, and made a TV commerical. I'd like to imagine this commercial aired during an episode of Knight Rider. It's one the most 80's commercials of all time. What you refer to as a steeple on that building is called a cupola.
Funny enough, my neighbor just taught me that recently as she has one on the top of her garage. But thanks, it’s always helpful to get useful info and tips.

If you ever plan to add to this video. I know a few more locations that I found myself while trying to find them all. I’ve also been trying to find the locations for Sid’s hideaway and Macs and I believe I know there the bungalows once were.
Please let me know where the locations you are talking about are possibly located. I have openly been asking for help on here finding a few places that I couldn’t locate, especially Sid’s hideaway bungalows and Mack’s house. I was given some info on them but they didn’t match up when I checked them out. I found most everything else used in the movie but those two places have eluded me.

That’s right before the turn going up the hill to Jenne farm. Others are all driving scenes I have found. The location for Sid’s from doing some research I believe was also in Townshend but is mostly not there anymore.

What about the location of "Sid's Hideaway Bungalows" where Andy and Elizabeth spend their anniversary, and he has her read his story about the "3 buddies knocking over a casino". No one seems to know the exact location, only that it was filmed somewhere in Castletown, Vermont.
That’s a very good question, I did a lot of research on the front end before filming in hopes of trying to locate that area and couldn’t find it. I came across a number of cottages or cabins throughout the Vermont area but none of them matched up to what they used in filming. I’d love to know myself as it was a place I tried to find to make this video. I also couldn’t find Mack’s house (where the movers ask for directions). Hopefully someone will comment one day on here with those locations as I couldn’t locate either one. I did find most everything else though.

Only place I heard close to Castletown is out here near me which is Castleton but that's near the New York border which is the opposite side of the state were they filmed but still not far but I doubt it was there for a one off shot.
Yeah, that location has continued to stump me. I’m starting to wonder if it simply no longer exists. I have tracked down a number of possible locations through research and tips, but none of them match up to what was used in the movie. My hope is if the location still exists (or if they’ve been torn down and someone knows where they are), that someone will post on here and solve the mystery. Until then…
@@ComeSeeWithMe Could be Castleton as its only a hour away but seems odd to travel that far when everything else was shot in a general area using a couple different towns unless it was the perfect location but I doubt it. Never heard of Castletown and nothing comes up for it but there are old tiny unincorporated towns that I know of that you cant find anything on so it could have existed. Logic and budget says it would be in the general area the other known locations are in . Its like a 3 towns radius they shot in. Also if the movie was shot in Castleton I'm sure I would of heard something as far as word of mouth or local history if something like that happened and I've never heard any mention of Chevy Chase being in Rutland County. Something on that level would still be talked about. I don't even think any big budget movie has even been shot in all of Rutland County the closet would be Me, Myself and Irene which shot a lot around up near Middlebury in Addison County only like 40 mins from here and when they were in town and the movie came out it was a big deal.
