There is so much to learn from Japan. The way they still preserved their culture and infused it with modernization instead of completely get into western influence really shows the soft power of Japan.
That's why in India we are building shinkasen train instead of any other bullet train bc of quality.
Indian culture also needed to be infused with mordernisation instead of having a colonial idea that it is primitive.

Do you think you would be able to make a video on eating gluten free or with allergies in Japan? I saw your gluten free okonomiyaki video (funnily, just last week my husband was talking about trying to make some at home, I need to share that video with him ^_^) and as someone with celiac disease, my biggest worry if I ever somehow get that slim chance of being able to visit Japan, that I would wind up sick and unable to enjoy the trip because of difficulty finding food that's safe or worse, wind up hospitalized.

I love the thing about having multiple obi for each kimono. It really shows how alike people are that “spice up or expand your wardrobe with accessories” is a fairly universal concept. Me buying a new wrap and a Japanese woman 100 years ago buying a new obi were both thinking “yeah, this will go great with that thing I already have, and dress it up without breaking the bank” and I find that wonderful.

Even though I used to be a kimono dealer here in California, and have a couple hundred in my personal collection, this gives me kimono lust. As someone who has very long hair, I love and wear kanzashi, too, though I only have a few of those. I've bought mostly online, or (for myself) in shops in San Francisco. I'd love to visit a shop like this one!

I read somewhere that the intricate designs on the lining of kimono and juban gained popularity after noblemen started condemning lower class citizens for wearing kimono with flashy patterns, as it merged the gap between lower and higher class, so after that lower class people would put beautiful designs on the inside of their robes to still be able to express yourself a little without getting punished for it. Although I don't remember the source so it might be just a theory :(

Watching this video makes me want to get out and wear my kimono! All of mine are vintage or antique. There's an importer I order bulk boxes through to recycle the garment fabric from. Sometimes they slip in a kimono, obi, or haori that's still in near-perfect condition. I always keep these to wear or give to friends as gifts. I have also bought kimono to wear from them. I'm so envious of all of the accessories shown!
The most difficult part about kimono for me is finding the right size. I am very tall and admit some of my kimono are not the proper size for me.

Antique kimonos have size (people in the past were often short, mentioned this video) and cloth strength issues, so should take that into consideration.

I'm not sure where you live, but if you live in the U.S that has direct flights to Japan, you need like $4,000 for a trip of 2 weeks including air fare. Stay in hostels for cheap "housing", and buy food from convenient stores, or a place called Matsuya, very reasonable price for a meal like $7 with like rice and meat and miso soup. And buy the. JR PASS for unlimited shinkansen for 7 or 14 days. Just a few tips for you hihi... And no you don't need to know Japanese haha...

There are no Kimono shops where I live, sadly. I believe my best option is a 4.5 hour drive to Japantown in San Francisco. Regardless, I am inspired by these beautiful pieces. Some day I will find myself a kimono!

I've always adored the look of kimono. The contrast of the obi's pattern and colors with the kimono are fascinating! Wish I could find a shop like the one that couple went to here in the U.S.A......

Just in love with very typical Japanese expression to show you are amaze or surprise. Although I lived in Tokyo, I only bought my kimono during trips in Kyoto.

Thank you so much for such an informative and beautiful video! My favorite was the one with the red lining from Showa period (I love red and vibrant pink). I have deep appreciation for your culture, ancient and modern. I would love to see more recommendations about Women's silk kimonos and where I could potentially buy one online. Wearing an original affordable Kimono, even before visit Japan, would already be a dream coming true for me. Thank you in advance! Arigato gosaimas!🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

Wow, what a beautiful episode! As a man, I would have loved to have let the shop with the 3-bells kimono. I even liked the obi that she matched it with.
