Thank you for showing men's kimono and that the key to men's kimono is in the subtlety. Men's kimono isn't as flashy and bright as women's kimono, but brings more subtle combinations of colors together. Definitely agree with you on the lack of attention on men's kimono, so thank you and Kazu for showing the subtle beauty of men's kimono. Please continue to show that so men don't have to feel like an afterthought when it comes to kimono.

Hi Shogo. Love to learn new things about something as different as Japanese culture (compared to European) from watching your videos.
    So here's a question:
I understand that Yukata is more of a cassual clothing?
When or where do you wear a Kimono?
Is it like a common formal clothing, or like a "tier" above standart suits?
Would a person wear it to work (like a manager), or is it like for events like wedding, birthday, theatre.... etc.?

Shogo, I love your videos. My question is this: Is there a difference between a kimono that you might wear on a holiday, maybe to a park or a festival and a kimono that you would wear to a special event, such as a wedding? For example, in India, red is a color for weddings and the goal is for the bride and groom to look like a royal couple. Their clothing is very different from the garments a guest would wear. Is that similar to Japan?

    • @LetsaskShogo

I’m no expert but I do wear kimono for Omotesenke tea lessons. I love kimono and research it a lot to make sure I wear it correctly. A quick look at the fabric will tell you what season it’s meant for. Awase kimono are lined and are used for most of the year, from October to June. Hitoe are unlined and are worn July to September. And there’s summer kimono worn, known as Natsumono or Usumono, besides being unlined, the fabric is usually transparent due to its breathable weave. The same differences apply to obi and to the undergarments. I hope this helped 😊

personally, I prefer suits because they are more practical (pockets and not super baggy). But Japanese formal wear has this dramatic, calming air to it. While suits feels very stuffy or fashiony.
I also really love Kurtas like the clothes found in India, but I think the rectangular cut of kurtas is not very flattering and the silhouette not as interesting. No defined waistline but the high collar and sleeves are cool

I don’t suppose you could find out how to do that weaving technique for the summer cotton/hemp where it’s twisted? I’m a weaver, and would love to know the technique!

Unfortunately it seems they only have Japanese… But if you’re looking for more affordable online shop of kimono in English, this is my recommendation! www.kimono-yukata-market.com/
      store.kyotohandicraftcenter.com/
