  • Steel cuts oats upma is healthy and tasty porridge. Breakfasts are the important meal of the day. We need healthy and tasty recipes for breakfast. Here is the simple yet delicious oats uppittu.. This gluten free( make sure to buy gluten free oats) Vegan breakfast recipe.
    Ingredients:
    1 cup steel cut oats (BUY HERE -gluten free quick cook steel cut oats - amzn.to/2wOobf4)
    For seasoning:
    2 tbsp oil
    1 tsp mustard seeds
    1 tsp urad dal /split black gram
    1 tsp chana dal / split bengal gram
    2 tbsp groundnut/peanuts
    2 to 4 green chilies(chopped or slit)
    1 small onion (optional)
    1/8 tsp turmeric powder (sirtfood, anti inflammatory)
    Other ingredients:
    1.5 cup water
    1/4 to 1/2 cup grated fresh coconut
    1 tsp salt or salt to taste
    10 to 15 curry leaves
    2 to 3 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves/cilantro
    juice of half a lemon/lime
    wash and peel a small carrot and grate it
    1/4 cup grated carrot
    1/4 cup fresh or frozen peas
    you can add any vegetables which needs less time to cook

      We do need that much oil for this recipe. Otherwise the it will be very dry

    is it steel cut or rolled one? look like rolled oats...

      I was wondering the same. Steel cuts take 2-3 times longer time to cook. I.e. 30-40 mins. Not sure about how much cooking time will reduce after roasting.

      @@VernDediccio9021 agreed!! I just tried this recipe with steel cut oats and it failed. I transferred everything to the instant pot and pressure cooked for 4 minutes to cook. The recipe as such ain’t bad but the timing is way off - possibly due to some confusion in the type of product used.
