@@BONETRICOif you want sets for cheap I’d recommend brickink or eBay, with bricklink and eBay you got to be careful, I recommend to always ask for pictures and beware of the prices of sets, if a set is really cheap then it’s prob to good to be true, also some people up charge so be ware of that.

This year really shoulda been the year of droid sets. An MTT, a beige AAT, droid carriers for army builders… so many fun slots wasted on 18+ dust collector type sets rather than play sets
You are correct on the first point, 17 years since a REAL MTT came out, no duel of fates, no Naboo Starfighter, no purchasable Droid Carrier. However those small slots are being used for Disney era and the larger slots for OT sets, the 18+ sets are not taking away slots, they have been around since 2019. More efficient set choices could solve this issue, but the world needs another Millennium Falcon and X-wing/Tie fighter pack evidently.

@@svenoualpha9673 I understand, outside of midi-scale or "Starship Collection" I only buy normal system scale, but 18+ has been a thing for 5 years now and it's really down to packing Disney sets and OT remakes down the throat. The system scale slots still exist, but are not loaded the way people like you and me would like.

When I first saw this set I was confused because it doesn’t really feel like a collectible, it should be something that you’re able to easily buy in bulk like how the old droid carriers were.
I’m gonna be honest, while this definitely shouldn’t be a May 4rth promo, this is one of the sets I’ve been wanting them to remake the most, so I’m actually happy with it

If it is true, it would really suck considering it would have been a fantastic way to army build Separatists. Having it behind a May 4th promo (in which you have to spend a certain amount (and a lot) of money to be able to get one) is a massive turn off and really unfair for those who want to army build, not to mention the unfair treatment Separatists have been getting in recent years outside of a few things. Not to mention it would have definitely sold very well as a normal set.
Will be really sad if true cause at the moment they do the Separatists justice (via the Clone and Droid Battle Pack), they would do them dirty again.

The irony of the lego star wars youtubers complaining about this set being behind a "threshold" when just a few months ago they were advocating for the Venetor Rex not to come in a cheaper set because collectible items and all that. The hypocracy is just truely amazing.
at least it's something that fans have wanted, but an announcer booth build with the figs would've been sick, though. they had an opportunity to release this as its own set alongside an upgraded/re-released version of the 2007 MTT and a play scale AAT and this year would've been chef's kiss
Even as someone who doesn't army build, and frankly couldn't care less about a droid battle pack, I'm pretty disappointed with this. I expect more out of a GWP than $5 worth of battle droids and some brown and tan parts.

Good quality offbrand droids are 1$ for 4 droids, or 1$ for 2 droids if you want supers with prints, just throwing that out there.

I think you grasp this fully. Your comment seems level headed. But, from other replies Ive seen, people think this set itself is $160. People, it is a bonus. If you bought $160 worth of star wars stuff May 12th, you’d just get $160 worth of LEGO. With this, you still get the $160 worth of LEGO AND this on top. It is just an incentive to spend $ during that weekend. Like black Friday. Spend $ now and get bonus. You’re not getting jipped out of $160 via scam. They could do nothing at all. If you don’t want to or can’t, then don’t spend $160. I feel for you. I do. I wish this was a stand alone set too. (Well kinda. B1s are a dime in a dozen really.) But, the complaints to actual offense by LEGO ratio does not match anywhere near where it should be. Complain to LEGO. It will make LEGO give consumers what we want. @@sirw7630 not a lot of people have the UCS Tie Interceptor. It's 22 years old. Many collectors weren't even born when it came out. I was lucky enough to find it in bulk.

I was fortunate as a kid to get 2 of the 2015 carriers. Almost 565 pieces, 40 bucks. One of, if not the best deals of the 2010's. Crazy now that it will cost 4x as much to get.

You don’t spend $160 on this set. You’re still getting $160 worth of sets. This is extra. A bonus. You previously spent $40 on just the carriers. Not saying that wasn’t good value compared to today. Just saying your post made it seem like you are buying this for $160. Yes, you have to spend that to get this. But, you’re getting whatever sets you would normally be buying for $160 PLUS this in addition. I see this GWP as a win.

Having to spend 160 bucks on a set that’s worth like 30 dollars is a steep asking price. It’s a damn shame since I have been waiting for a new version of the droid career for years. They shouldn’t be locking sets that should, by all accounts, just be regular releases behind such a ridiculous paywall. Promotions are fine but they should be something actually unique like a more obscure figure, not something that just seems like something that should just be available to buy regularly.
Exactly, something more unique not an army builder that everyone will want. Again the miniature podrace diorama would’ve worked so much better.
I‘ve been waiting for a decent way to get B1s for a good while now since I am trying to build up my clone and droid armies and I still have slightly more B2s than I have B1s since they were relatively common before they vanished after 2015 and I am only now getting back into the hobby. So I was so excited when I read this was coming out. Then I read it was a GWP and I was extremely disappointed to put it mildly. Lego seems to know exactly what we want but then seems to find a way to spit into the face of their most loyal customers. I would have probably bought a lot more than one of these sets. But with this being GWP I will be lucky to get my hands on one of them, since they’ll probably be sold out within hours of the promotion starting. They need to stop pulling moves like this or more and more people will just stop engaging with the hobby.
@@VengineerGERon the bright side if you want to build your clone and droid armies the new super battle pack that came out is a great option. $30 for 4 clones, 2 battle droids, and 3 super battle droids as well as some really nice builds. It’s set number is 75372

The difference between this feeling scammy and this being an incredible promo would be Lego putting out a ~$160 CIS set for May. Buy an MTT, get 8 bonus droids and a droid carrier to go with it. That'd be awesome. Shame they forgot to come up with any good Star Wars sets Q1.

who’s choice is it at lego to continually put desirable sets as gwps? the blacktron set, the forest men hideout, now this droid carrier… all it does is add an unnecessary rarity to sets that should be regularly available, which further jacks up the price on the second hand market. awful moves all around
OR it could be exclusive in the sense that maybe we get a bunch of different battle droid colors. Like maybe a pilot droid and geonosis battle droids for the first time in over 10 years??? It is unlikely, but I feel like this set would feel more like a Gwp collectors item. Maybe even get a super tactical droid or normal TD. It’s definitely a long shot but I feel like it IS a bit weird we are getting a GWP like this. If I’m not mistaken the last GWP for SW we got was the mini DS 2??? For ROTJ 40th??? Very exclusive. So maybe we get a special droid or something?? Maybe a cool Jedi with it like Tera Sinuba or maybe Yaddle??? I feel like this set would be much more worth the $160 with a figure like that, but I feel like everyone would want it then even more so maybe it wouldn’t be a good idea. But I think a Tera senuba might be cool cuz he is relatively unknown and wouldn’t fit in very many other sets. IDK we can all wish but it will probably just be a normal set locked behind a paywall, nothing special.

droid carrier is cool but should be a normal set. IMO May 4th should be reserved for minifigs and cool little builds that we wouldn't otherwise get in a normal set. The Lars Homestead with Aunt Beru being the perfect example. At least they are including figures like that with some of the normal sets this year which is a step in the right direction.
I kinda wish they just did a new MTT instead of this. Considering how well renown the 2007 MTT was and how disappointing (not to me, though) the 2014 version was, I think a new MTT done right would be a slam dunk. However, not in this skulduggery GWP manner.

I’m very happy with the promo because as of now droid army building is scarce so if I buy battle packs and others clone sets I can get a clone army but also some droids to go against them this is big for Lego fans and I am so happy for this set
Its a good concept but good luck army building these. I hope there is atleast some kind of droid variant in there like a commander or a pilot. Its crazy we havent gotten either of those in 10 years
So, $160 is not hard to reach with the way sets are priced. It may seem scummy, but the company is definitely wanting to push sales. Most GWP for May 4th would warrant 1 or 2 purchases. This tempts people for more than that. Maybe it can be mitigated with the use of Insider/VIP points but that means saving up until May either way.
Scummy marketing almost every month now. Not sustainable.

hot take: I'm disappointed, for the first time in my life I have saved money for May 4, and I was hoping that I would get something great, but instead I got figurines that have been unchanged for 25 years. On the one hand, for the Western world, it's probably even sweet that for the 25th anniversary of Star Wars Lego, you get a battlepack with the same figures from a quarter of a century, but for me it's a waste of money.

Meh, it should've been a regular set. You know what would be solid GWP? A set with unique minifigs like Tactical droid or some obscure starfighter. And when I say TC, I don't mean any named TC, just some random, preferably weird coloured one. Something that would be rare, but wouldn't be a must have.
Lego is being so toxic with GWPs, I can understand Tahu or magisto's workshop, or any Space set being GWP, they're iconic and remakes, but wouldn't sell well in regular stores. But this? This is just Battlepack, and pretty good one at that.
I'm glad I was collecting between 2007 and 2015 and still retain my collection from that time because I had the opportunity to amass a good amount of both CIS and GAR units. Trying to build CIS these days just seems annoying. I feel for all the people who do/try to do, and this situation certainly doesn't help.
So if one buys several Clones vs Droids sets from Lego, they can get this for free? Man why not make it a more available set for stores if there's nothing exclusive about it?

This set will not sell well with normal fans over two years. Look at the Ghost. Everyone been clamoring for one thinking it will make a lot of money for LEGO. The set BOMBED. No obviously the Ghost is from Rebels/Ahsoka, which are not popular shows, but I don't think this droid set does well just because it is from the far more popular "George Lucas Canon." This set would sell well with LEGO Star Wars junkies, so releasing it as a GWP makes sense.

Think back to the interview. They have limited sets to release. This was probably the only was to fit it in the corporate portfolio line up. Dont hate on it. Plus the carriers are cheap used and droids are cheap right now. This works.

@fivelonelyclones the current portfolio seems to be geared for display type sets. So the big wigs want those on the shelves, this was probably the only way to roll it in at all. Plus droids aren't mini figures so less licensing i bet.
I prefer this. It’s just as easy to make diorama sets as it is to make droid sets and if the Tattooine Homestead were a diorama I doubt it would’ve had a lot of sales same with last years GWP which I got 2 of and well, they’re not very fun

Ok, but if it was an exclusive figure that everybody wanted behind a GEP paywall, it’d be fine? May 4th promos have had paywalls for like a decade if not more now. I am failing to see how this is any different. Last year’s was a pretty dang good death star and that was €150. And like, I get a battle droid battle pack has been called for by fans. But, if these are common B1s, like yay… 6-8 droids I have 100s of. I am going to hit the paywall pretty much regardless. But, even if I didn’t foresee myself spending €160, I wouldn’t be too mad missing this. I’d be more upset over an exclusive figure than a handful of B1s any day. And, LEGO has had things behing a paywall for 10+ years for May the 4th promos. And if you really want more than 1 copy of this set, I think you’ll be able to have 2 accounts to get two or get them relatively cheap second hand. I get people want a droid battle pack. I do. We ehhhhh…. Kinda have one with that most recent battle pack. Yeah, I’ll give you that you’re forced to buy clones. If you really only want droids, sell the clones. People more want the clones anyway. You’ll probably make back 2/3-3/4 of your money selling the clones. Then just buy more. Get more tripod walkers and B1s and B2s. Does this kinda stink, sure. But, I think kicking up this much of a fuss is overkill. Droids are not hard to come by and exclusives have been behind a paywall for a decade plus for May the 4th. I am not mad about this news about the droid carrier. Complete opposite. Im excited. Lock it behind a paywall. I am coming in. I don’t buy sets on release day so I have enough to buy during this time every year. It is like the one big spending LEGO spree a year. I think this is a good GWP. A really good choice really. I think a lot of people will enjoy it.

You have to be a lego vip (which is free just sign up for it on lego.com) and spend $160 on Star Wars sets on either lego.com or at a lego store most likely in between may 1st and may 4th. You don’t have to spend $160 on one Star Wars set your order just has to add up to $160. You could either buy one set or multiple. The gwp’s are usually intended for the people that buy the $240 may 1st ucs set every year.

LOL! Lego needs to stop listening to the fans. Nothing lego does is going to make them happy. They need to learn from Disney. This is great news for me. I'm usually good to spend about $800 on May releases. That should give me a minimum of 4 GWP (and if I can space it out right, 5). I'm guessing they will go for at least $80-100 after they retire, and since I have no interest in prequel set or minifigs there is a very good chance my purchases this year will come very cheap.
I’m getting very may 1st set too and I’m gonna get this set either way but that’s not the point at all. The set doesn’t work as a gwp it’s not collective or exclusive in anyway it’s just a good army builder that lego is rudely locking being a paywall when it should be something else
@@fivelonelyclones I get what your saying, I really do. I was pretty salty when the buildable lightsabers were attached to expansive sets. But, ultimately, I look at these things for what they are, gifts. Also, I discovered that I could piece these GWP together for about $25-30 through the pick a brick option at the lego website. You can't usually do mini figs there, but Lego doesn't consider droids mini figs, and I'm told they can be pieced together for about $1 a piece. A little leg work and I would guess this set could be done for about the same as the lightsabers.

Yeah i bet it’s gonna be a great set and army builder… but it’s locked behind a pay wall because it’s a gwp when it just doesn’t work as one. Like imagine the 501st battle pack being a gwp or the newest clone vs droids battle pack. It just doesn’t work
