I own this set and it is really cool! I love all the original characters that were included. The bounty hunter fig was my favorite one.
The thing about Jek's starfighter is that it's actually based on a ship from Legends: the E-Wing. It may not be great, but it has potential to be modified.
And now it's canon in the Ahsoka show

Minus the early teething issues with the laser cannons, and the absurd placement of the dorsal laser cannon the E-Wing from legends was a great starfighter. It surpassed the X-Wing with a >1/8 higher maximum acceleration, 1/5 higher MGLT, almost 1/4 faster maximum atmospheric speed, 2 2/3x greater proton torpedo payload, less numerous but heavier laser cannons that don't require S-foils to open up to fire. And it only cost 10,001-50,001 credits more new and 10,000 credits less used. Even the T-70 X-Wing from Cannon barely stacks better against the E-Wing than the original X-Wing, the T-85 matches the speed stats of the E-Wing but costs 20,000-60,000 more credits new and 60,000 more credits used.

I actually worked at LEGO at the time the twilight was produced. Lucasfilm was convinced it would be the next Millennium Falcon and it just...wasn't. It was so prominent in the movie but even in the show after that it barely showed up again from what I remember. really weird how it all worked out.

As a kid at the time I loved the twilight and would’ve loved to have the set.
I love the Twilight, but its not on the same level as the Falcon. The Razor Crest on the other hand definitely is on a similar level of being iconic as the Falcon. Shame it blew up.
I really think the Freco speeder is underrated. Two exclusive mini figures and Anakin’s alternate face with the face wrappings is great

You underestimate Yoda Chronicles. Jek-14s stealth fighter is actually based on the E-Wing and the set after it is an amazing build based on shape alone. And The Freemaker Adventures is severely underrated.

The 1999 droid fighter actually did have play features. You could have the wings fold down for it to land or you could open and close the wings. I think that it was actually really nice and it was only like 7 Bucks back in the day so not having a figure was kind of reasonable since it's the same price as a polybag. I think maybe the Naboo swamp was worse, but all the sets from 1999 were all pretty good, especially for a first attempt. (Edit: I own one with box now, it is really cool.)
Also, Robots was made by Blue Sky, not DreamWorks.

Quick thing about 2013 and 2014. The 2013 pick here was actually based on the E-Wing, a very beloved fighter from expanded universe content. And the 2014 set I actually really really liked unironically, it was one of my favorite starfighter sets of all time. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but to me it was a banger.
Agreed along with the Star Scavenger. The set looks cool reminds me of the Defender-class from SWTOR. Also it is better than the Resistance X-Wing Starfighter. That was pure lazy.

Assault on Hoth isn’t a bad set. It was just branded under the wrong theme. If they had introduced the master builder series using this set no one would have hated it.

@@friendlyneighborhoodasianm912 totally disagree. The whole point of a UCS model is to deliver something packed with detail and accuracy that you wouldn’t otherwise have due to other constraints. They’re meant to be large display models, not toys that you put your minifigures in to play with. If a certain model happens to be minifigure scale when given the UCS treatment then cool, but that shouldn’t be the requirement/standard.

I have to disagree with The Twilight. It is a good looking ship and LEGO captured it quite well. And it made sense LEGO wanted it for the Clone Wars as this was the main hero ship for the first season of the show.

I think the Assult on Hoth from 2016 gets way to much hate. Yes it´s titled as a UCS set and for a UCS set it is bad but the set itself is really good, it´s one of the best playsets Lego has made for star wars and I absolutley loved playing with it when it came out. I don´t think the set deserves this much hate only because of the wrong title

LEGO marketed it wrong and that's why it's so hated. If it was called an MBS (Master Builder's Series) set then it would have been more well received.
The commentary over 2013 aged very poorly. The only good point you had was that LEGO made the set to advertise their own little Star Wars special.
The Ship is based of off an E-Wing from Legends, and it's getting brought to cannon with the new Ahsoka show. I personally think the set is fine and wish I had one for the design.
It's fairly easy to make an E-wing using similar parts to an X-wing, just without the gearbox wing system, it's a fun little challenge for an afternoon.
To be fair the podracer bucket was intended for beginners and young children
Gotta disagree on the Jek 14 Stealth Fighter man. It's literally an E-wing ripped from Star Wars Legends. We're all popping off now that Ahsoka is canonizing the E-wing and we're getting it as a set in 2023. If only I'd been more familiar with the E-wing when the Jek 14 set came out.
I’ve known about e-wing’s for a while I just didn’t recognize his as a custom one. Although it doesn’t matter because e-wings were prominently used by the rebels and the new republic and were not in the time period the set is based off of
Jek's fighter is based off of the E-Wing so it can work pretty well with slight modifications to fit into your Legends New Republic Army
Also Lego likes to use concept art alot for their sets like for the Lego Pirates of the Caribbean Fountain of Youth and in general the Blackbeard Minifig as both are based from Concept art before the movie was even released thus why the Scout Walker being there in a 2017 set makes sense as it was used in Concept Art for the Last Shitdi which was released in 2018

It definitely is an E-Wing. The triple laser cannons and engine pods under the wings are a giveaway. The only difference is a real E-Wing has an armored cover on the rear that covers the Astromech socket so the droid is better protected.

1. So, you consider being able to convert to walking mode "nothing"? It doesn't do it as well as 2007-onward versions, but it does it.
2. That "Aldar Beedo" in the Podracing Bucket looks more like a mislabeled alternate Gasgano, especially compared to the real Aldar Beedo included in Watto's Junkyard.
** Also, the Podracing Bucket was largely not made to be in the same tier as the main sets anyway; the point was to have a Star Wars answer to stuff like the medium Freestyle buckets.
3. So, about Technic 3PO. Lego making him mostly *gold* wasn't gonna happen at the time - they were still super-conservative when it came to metallic-colored elements, especially hard plastic, at the time. The only gold parts that are actually made of gold plastic? Are hoses, which are made of semi-soft. All the other gold is paint, stickers, or vacuum-metallizing (the two dishes used for his eyes). They made as much of him gold as they could by those routes, but a lot of parts - like the fan liftarms, the thin liftarms, the axle and pin connectors, etc - weren't practical to sticker or paint. And I guess LEGO thought black would be less visually-loud than yellow. Now, making them _tan_ was a possibility and might have looked better than black... but between the Pit Droid and the Super Battle Droid, there was already going to be a lot of tan out there that very same year and LEGO may have felt 3PO needed to stand out from them (and offer more part color variety)
** Also, are you aware of his gimmick? Where he falls to bits if his chest roundel is struck - like, say, by the missile the Stormtrooper's blaster fires?
** Honestly, I'd have given the spot to the AT-ST. It looked dodgy even at the time, and its main value as a cheaper way than 7190 to get Chewie has long since been completely obviated.
4. Frankly, I'd have given this spot to the Republic Gunship. The passenger compartment has poor capacity due to questionable plate choices, and it made a very stupid choice regarding the connection between the top and bottom halves that means it has to be picked up from the bottom to not break apart like a cookie.
** Alternate choice: the frigging UCS Naboo Starfighter. You wanna talk "waste of a UCS set"? Look no further than this joke.
5. "Amazing. Every word you just said, was wrong."
** Sorry, but I think a build that focuses more on the interior of the building with only minimal elements suggesting the outside is a perfectly valid choice, especially with a place where almost all the action is on the inside.
** I'm also down for doing stuff like this at the $30 price point. It's nicely accessible that way, and building interiors like this aren't really hurt by what's done to get them there.
** Also, strictly speaking it's a $44 set divided into three.
6. ...Okay, you completely fucked up here. 7262 is NOT a straight reissue of 7150 like 7152 was. They recycled 7150's box photo (and possibly other stock images?), but guess what? While the Y-Wing is the same (I think any thoughts toward Y-wing redesign that year got absorbed into the UCS version)... DARTH VADER'S TIE _IS_ AN UPDATED BUILD. It has a new cockpit based on the 2004/2005 update of the standard TIE Fighter, slightly longer wings with more trim (and said trim is tiles rather than plates), and a longer, more detailed rear hull. A look at real photos of the set or even just a simple read-through of the instructions would have told you as much. But I guess you couldn't be bothered, and so you wound up talking out your ass.
** I would give this spot to 4504 Millennium Falcon, personally. Definite case of the redesign overall feeling like a downgrade compared to the original. Questionable choices (random escape pod, no smuggling compartment even though it could also have doubled as the maintenance pit seen in ESB, 8x8 grating plates for some of the interior floor (reducing standing space), lousy quad gun, no means of securing the escape pod hatch, no guns for Han and Leia, lack of the "Ground Buzzer" even though the set is recreating the liftoff from Echo Base..), plus poor first execution of the "blooming onion" design. If not for the headroom issues I've heard about with the Kessel Run Falcon (which I'd need to evaluate in person), I'd say it's hands-down the worst standard Falcon set.
7. Agree with this one, though I still want it. Maybe it would have been better for Lego to model the outrigger in its melted-off upright state, and instead of the foosball fencing have Obi-Wan and Anakin be swinging from cables (and be fitted with neck brackets so they could be controlled with Island Extreme Stunts-style puppet rods).
** For 2005, I'm more disappointed by what we _didn't_ get and still haven't got: a set of the duel with Dooku. It's a key scene in the movie, Dooku needed an update to flesh tone, and it would have been a good place to put a non-pilot Anakin that wasn't light-up.

9. The Twilight's not any uglier than the Falcon, IMO. I like the design, myself - it's kinda "The B-wing but as a cargo ship". Also, it's a prominent ship in both the movie and series so saying LEGO shouldn't have made it is like saying they shouldn't have made the Millennium Falcon. As for why Rotta's in it despite already being in the AT-TE set, 1. He's a small easy-to-lose thing so it's good to have a spare, and 2. Frankly, he belongs more in this set than he did in that one.
** I do think they could have done it better, though - the Technic mechanisms (a factor in the price) hog interior space and they didn't quite nail the colors. We also have yet to get an update with its tweaked livery from after Anakin salvaged it.
** I'm more inclined to give the spot to either Anakin's fighter (for failing to have a way to secure R2) or to the frigging gunship - it repeats the major structural mistake of the AotC version, and isn't exactly much of an improvement capacity-wise either.

13. Not really fair to attack the year, spillover happens all the time because stores don't always have room for everything within one year.
14. I mean, the ship may be based on the boring E-Wing fighter that Legends stupidly tried to push as an X-Wing replacement, but "shouldn't exist" is harsh, especially since it adds some interest that the basis lacked. And the minifigs are interesting.
15. I honestly like the ship, has an interesting design and the parts could be put to good use elsewhere. And more new astromech and protocol droids are always good.

17. Just looking at what was available, I'd say 2016 was a _good_ year. Also, all the elements of Assault on Hoth seem fine to me. I agree that the Star Scavenger is ugly, but I'd still want it as a parts pack.

19. Yeah, they should have had the cabin. That would have recreated the scene better, since they could then have had a gimmick where the cabin popped off. If they were worried about price point, they could have made the legs less beefy.
** However, I'd give the _worst_ spot here to the Imperial Landing Craft due to only really having 4 seats plus the pilot's seat. And being harder to mod for more space than the original Imperial Landing Craft set. After the sheer beauty that was 75021, it's hard to stomach what's supposed to be a transport having such poor capacity.
20. I'd almost give this to the Slave I. Yeah, Boba's livery _is_ appropriate for the anniversary... but it's been done several times, while his daddy's livery has been done at minifig scale all of ONCE - during the original AotC line.

23. Mmm.. Minifig-scale UCS sets are in the minority. Minifig-_compatible_ sets are common, but from the very beginning the majority of UCS vehicles (well, other than stuff like capital ships that are perforce _smaller_ than true minifig scale) have scaled better with Technic figures or even 3 3/4" action figures than they ever have with minifigs. That goes alllll the way back to 7191 - every single UCS starfighter from the very beginning has made minfigs look like babies or toddlers in comparison; hell, the latest UCS X-wing makes R2 look like BB-8. Larger vehicles like the Millennium Falcon, the Slave I, the Imperial Shuttle, and the Razor Crest do tend to fare-better scale-wise, but that's purely a side effect of their being larger craft (the original UCS Falcon actually had poor minifigure compatibility despite being minifig scale) and even then it doesn't always play out like that (as seen with the UCS Republic Gunship).
** "What's the point in making a set so oversize?" To be as super-detailed and accurate as possible. Which has always, always, ALWAYS been the *main* purpose of UCS. There are exceptions like the joke of a Naboo Starfighter, and a few high-end playsets, but the _main_ focus of the Ultimate Collector Series has always been on being big, super-detailed display models for collectors. That's why the name. That's why the placards. That's why the bases. Luke and 3PO aren't meant to sit in that speeder but rather to _present_ it; they're a garnish. A couple of premium minifigs as a bonus treat for you dropping the dough on such a pricy set.
** Personally I'd give the "worst" spot for 2022 to the Republic Fighter Tank. Looks good, good minifig selection, plays nicely in several regards, and I'm still glad I bought it, so it's more that it's the least-good set IMO. The reason I'd give it the bottom spot is that the seating is flubbed. And one flubbed seat is just *embarrassing* considering it's caused by A SINGLE OUT-OF-PLACE TILE. That's just sheer carelessness during design.

The droid star fighter has joints so it can stand up and walk, like in the movies. They also engineered the wing bits so you can “open” and “close” the wings. I had this set as a kid. It was definitely not filler
I bought that very same set in a store in Austria when I visited my relatives over there (BTW I live in Australia - how's that for irony?) back at the start of 2001. I liked it at the time.
Oh, I forgot to mention that a few years ago I bought a cheap knockoff set that had a much more advanced build of the droid Starfighter...
It can actually fire missiles, but in order to do so, you have to push the missiles out (operates on simple click tension), which can be murder on the fingers...

Have you noticed that the age range for the 2011 Naboo Starfighter is recommended for ages 7-14?
It’s an interesting choice, since up until 2019, sets that were recommended for 7 year olds for the Star Wars lineup was 7-12.
I know they used that rating for the buildable figures, but I’m talking about normal sets, and it’s an oddity to say the least.
Jek-14s starfighter is the first and only E-wing they have made. Its such an underrated design and i hope we someday get another one

It did! That's why I was very confused with the claim "it literally didn't do anything" when it very literally DID do something. I seem to recall getting these (I bought a few) for like $5 a pop. I don't know if that was the actual MSRP or if I was finding them on sale, but either way it was a pretty solid little mass of plastic for so little money. There were definitely sets from that year that were far worse value.

UCS sets arent minifig scale most of the time lmao. Also "ship looks kinda ugly" argument is really stupid. E.G, the Justifier is pretty accurate to the show and looks decent enough in lego. You cant judge the ship as if Lego could control how Disney made the ship look lol.
You can get the Justifier without the minifigs for around 50 bucks sometimes locally. And if you can get it for around that pricetag it's a fine build

Hoth UCS is underrated. I mean, it’s a play set. It is meant for playing with a giant set-up. Their goal was not to make a display set for 25 year-olds trying to collect kids products.
The thing was it was put under the 'display set for 25-year-olds' label. I agree it's a fun looking playset. It just was put in the adult collectors brand for some reason.

Complaining about Luke’s landspeeder being oversized, when the main point of a lot of UCS sets is to be great very detailed displays in wild.
8:58 The set *75106* from 2015 _(which I got for $85, not $130)_ looks awesome to me. I like the Tie-Fighters dropping and other features, the minifigs are cool (Sabine!), and the building experience was great. I just added 3 or 4 pieces to perfect the overall shape. I love that set! 😀
For me the worst set from 1999 is Naboo Swamp. LEGO is always so focused on making vehicles for this franchise so sets based on locations or even natural terrain are rare and in one of their first sets meant to simulate a natural landscape, they have trees full of unnatural colors. Even for the time I think that is pretty bad. The droid fighter at least could have the legs turn.
For Jabba’s Palace, the problem is they named it Jabba’s Palace when it mostly the Throne Room and Jabba’s Throne Room would be a more appropriate name. The Set does look a lot better if you also include Jabba’s Message which has the entrance and Jabba’s Prize which has the trophy wall and Han in Carbonite.
For 2008 I like The Twilight and how it looks. And them making this set is understandable. The The Twilight was meant to be the Millennium Falcon of the Clone Wars series so they wanted to make a set of a prominent ship. The worst set that year for me was Separatist Spider Droid due to the fact that despite being a set for the Clone Wars, they didn’t appear in the series at all, and the Homing Spider Droids in general made by LEGO are known for their stability issues. Also it lacks many of the play features of the Republic Fighter Tank and Droid Gunship which also didn’t appear in the Clone Wars (yes the Droid Gunship appeared in Season 5 but by that they had discontinued the set long ago). That or the Magnaguard Starfighter because of details Loxitane showed about its issues.
The real worst set in 2015 was the AAT it was too small and massive step down from the prior 2008 version and I feel it needed some stickers or a print to show the projectile launcher tubes. It feels cheap and lazy and like uncharged micro fighter.
For the Star Scavenger I like the ship design. It reminds me of the Defender-class from SWTOR. For me the worst set that year was the Resistance X-Wing Fighter it felt lazy releasing more or less the same set with a few changes the year after the Poe’s X-Wing. Particularly when they still made it an X-Wing Poe used and not the X-Wing of someone else like Nein Numb who hasn’t gotten a minifigure at all so far despite being Lando’s co-pilot in Return of the Jedi and having screen time unlike his cousin Tien Numb.
I had that terrible C3PO from 2001. I remember it had functionality of a sort... if you pushed the button on his chest, his arms and head fell off.

soon as I saw u put Jeks starfighter on here I know this was an absolute clown vid, for one, it had 4 exclusive and awesome minifigs, and two, and most importantly, its based on a beloved, at the time legends, and now canon E-Wing starfighter which is an incredibly sleek and awesome design

The entire community (myself included) has been sick of Luke's Landspeeder.. There are so many opportunities for new sets we've never gotten (or remakes of some early 2000s sets cuz many got potential) but instead LEGO just copy pastes Luke's Landspeeder basiclly every year...

the vulture droid, it has functionality. It’s kind of creative with what they did with it.
So, growing up, my family was on the poorer side of the economic divide, my dad put Jaba The Hutt's Palace on Lay-Away for good while so he could buy it for me and my bro, and I tell you what, despite the fact it wasn't accurate, little 7 year me was so excited for it. That Leia figure made the set worth it. 😂 2:56

the twilight (2008) would make more sense for a show based, it has a better plot reason for it, and a remake for it would be good, a medical droid, CW ahsoka and anakin, and R2, maybe a side-build vulture

I'm a little late on this video, but totally agree with most entries especially the old Jabba's Palace set. 10/10 figs, 2/10 build. Gotta say though, it's not winning any emmys but the Freemaker Adventurers show isn't terrible. Only 2 seasons and definitely worth watching for Star Wars/Lego fans.

The thing with assault on hoth, was it was called a ucs because it was a big set, and lego didnt have different classification for it. I think it would now be considered a master builder set, or something like that.
The '99 Droid Starfighter's legs can come down so it can walk, and the head is detachable. It's not much, but it isn't featureless at least.
I had the Ultimate Lightsaber Dual set. I want to get it again. It will always be nostalgic for me because I snuck it out from under the tree on Christmas Eve and got caught building it in my bedroom. I couldn’t wait one more night for the one present I knew was LEGO.

My main gripe with the UCS Luke’s Landspeeder that we’ve already had so many renditions of Luke’s Landspeeder, there’s like six of them, so I’m just tired of seeing it
I like how the 2022 segment has a preamble about how everyone will disagree with the Landspeeder but everyone is mad about the E-Wing instead 😂

Understandable with the assassin droid battle pack. Everyone stocked up on the clone pack because that was a cheap and easy way to build up clones, plus there were plenty of cool custom set ideas using multiple battle packs. Meanwhile the assassin droid was more of a one-and-done thing. Fun for certain play scenerios, but it doesn't really mesh with the rest of a battle droid army a kid might have.

What are you on that makes you think UCS sets are supposed to be minifig scale? A MAJORITY of UCS sets are very much oversized because they're supposed to be accurate looking display models, NOT minifig scale sets.

Care to explain ucs x wing 2003, 2013 2023, ucs tie fighter , ucs a wing , ucs Death Star 2 , ucs rebel blockade runner , ucs Death Star , ucs super star destroyer, ucs star destroyer 2002, ucs star destroyer 2019 , ucs republic gunship , ucs obi wan Jedi starfighter, ucs sandcrawler ? Though I see your point , the sandcrawler , is a much smaller vehicle so had to be multiplied in size more , but it was the only way possible to make the set fit with other may the 4th ucs sets

The 2004 rerelease of Tie VS Y Wing was done as a desperate attempt to make money off reissuing old sets. 2004 still was during a massive financial struggle for lego. Its also why some Pirates sets were rereleased during 2002-2004.
2006 really must have been a great year because I rmember owning that V-wing fighter. That thing was sleek, wish I still had it.
