      I have a few:
1: Bionicle is by far is the worst Lego theme
2: Lego was better from 1989-1997 than today, that was their golden age.
3: Pirates is BY FAR the greatest theme ever created, there is no competition for that honour.

I always theorized one of the reasons LEGO wouldn't take up Pokemon is because to get the look right takes too many unique or unusually shaped pieces that wouldn't be able to hold up to quality and structural stability requirements LEGO has. MEGA is a bit more willing, and they manage it using a sort of rubber molding instead of bricks for things like fur tuffs, wool and oddities like Lucario's dreadlocks.

I'm mostly into SW sets just because I'm a fan of the franchise, but I will say that there's a lot more creativity in the original themes on display.
I don't think that's really Lego's fault, the SW sets are designed to recreate existing designs. SW is limited by the quirks of Lego pieces, but original themes can use them to their advantage since they aren't trying to fit a specific mold.
IMO Star Wars are great for fans of the franchise, but if you're looking for a fun build, go for an original theme.

I have the opposite problem : My youngest little sister somehow prefers mini-dolls over minifigures so she buys friends, disney, etc... yet she's such a huge fan of the ninjago show and makes fantasy builds where she wants to make characters fight and such. Problem is, there's no threat or fighting outfits on minidolls, no angry faces, today I saw her try to assemble a "bad guy" from her mini dolls collection to have an antagonist during her play and she screamed "WHY DO THEY ALL LOOK SO FRIENDLY"... She's tired of building houses and picnics and modern things, wants medieval or fantasy elements like from ninjago, monkie kid, castle, harry potter, etc but minidolls have legit no way to achieve anything remotely aggressive. Seems like LEGO kinda excluded girls like her in a way by limiting minidolls from their "girl inclusion movement" to stereotypically girly things. Closest thing was elves and that was way before her time. It's one thing to replace mini dolls from friends sets with minifigs, but it's disheartening for her to ask me for LEGO Dreamzzz sets, get them, throw the minifigs away in a box never to use them, and have no minidoll possible alternatives.

I'd really like if just their online store had an option on all Friends and Cities sets to request the normal figures from one line be swapped with another. Getting standard yellow figures to live in the Friends sets is easy, being stuck with a bunch of Mini-Dolls I'm not going to play with isn't.

11:02 Katana, if you ever need it to be on your back (super impractical, don't do that) has to have its edge facing UP, so when drawn, it ends up in the right orientation in your hands. If the cutting edge is facing down, then you end up with a reverse grip, and will have seconds left to live in a hypothetical ambush situation. This is the reason why regular Samurai also had their swords facing UP from the 15th century, even when the scabbard is tucked under their belt. When you draw it, the blade already faces the right direction for your first cut. If you are good enough, it's the only cut you'll need, so better have your sword carried ready. For nerds: the unsheathing motion itself has the wooden scabbard pulled back off a stationary sword by a flick of the hips, rather than having to extend your arm forward by a sword-length (which would critically expose your hand as the perfect target). :)

Mattel changed the name of Mega Blocks to Mega constructs and, recently, to just Mega. My biggest hot take that I have is that LEGO should make a dedicated trains theme, maybe including some technic sets. Also, for those people who don't like technic in sets, I kind of like it because you can make your builds come to life.

    • @Rocket1377
      @Rocket1377 21 день тому +1

They didn't change the name, simply split it into different age ranges. Mega Brands is the name of the company that makes the bricks, Mega is their collector oriented theme, Mega Construx is aimed at middle school kids, and Mega Bloks is their version of Duplo.

  • @KombatGod

About the hands, their shape is clearly an approximation of the human hand, with the rounded shape representing the pinky side, and the flat shape being elevated from the wrist, like our thumb is.
So there is NO DOUBT that the correct position is with the flat side on top. That doesn't mean that you can't ever turn them around if you want their angle to go the other way, but just know that you're using them upside-down to create a different effect.
Just like how you can use a hot dog piece to represent a tube or a frog to represent some leaves, you can use an upside-down hand to represent a hand.

I have a bit of a hot take. I think LEGO should design minifigures where removing the arms, hands and individual legs should be a feature, instead of an "illegal" technique that could ruin a minifigure if not done carefully. I mean some people purposefully remove minifigure limbs for a scene or just to replace the hands. Even in official LEGO animations like the LEGO Movie have parts where a minifigure's limbs are apart from their body. Just imagine the creative possibilities if we could swap out minifigure limbs, maybe with ones at different poses.

And as for that Mega Construx argument. I get the appeal of having figs that actually look like the licensed characters. But the generic look of the minifig. They are so much more customizable. My Lego Renaissance started about 12 years ago. I had been out for a while but then I saw how many more options there were for minifig heads, torsos, and hair. I then went and made my whole family in minifig form. It was a lot of fun scouring eBay for heads and hair that matched my family. With my own minifig it was so much more fun when there is a little Lego *me* in the driver's seat of the car, piloting the jet, or dueling Darth Vader.

If the katana blade is facing down and you unsheath it you will have to turn the blade 180° in your hand to get it positioned correctly. Historically katanas had been carried edge up in scabbards to not put any extra pressure and wear to the all important blade, so I understand purists that want to carry them edge up. I personally don't care. It's a futuristic fantasy setting and one can assume that they are made from much better steel than they were historically made from so it's no longer relevant.

Mega has gotten SOO much better! I recently got one of their latest sets, as well as a Lego set soon after. Building them, the pieces felt nearly identical! The only reason mega is still seen as a "knockoff" is people who's only experience with mega is from 10-20 years ago and Lego's stranglehold on the market

    • @sethicusiii7878
      @sethicusiii7878 4 місяці тому +5

@@LegoverseofMete-td8pf okay then. If Lego is such higher quality, store your minifigs with the legs pushed in all the way.
You'll come back in a few years with all your super expensive minifigs worthless, because their torsos are cracked. Meanwhile all my halo figs will have aged like a fine wine, with the only breakages being in the hands. Because. I. Play. With. My. TOYS. And to be honest, I'm not always super careful. But glass is meant to break. If a toy breaks because it was played with, and LOVED, it's a good toy. If a toy breaks behind a glass box, never feeling the touch of a loving child (be it 6 or 60) because it's pieces do not fit inside each other without stressing the material? That toy sucks.
I love Lego, don't get me wrong. But some of their decisions have made me...less than happy. Their complete mistreatment of bionicle back in 2015 caused the line to fail. Bionicle didn't fail, Lego failed bionicle. If they had been responsible with the theme we likely would have had more than three waves of g2, and possibly would have had a complete g1, with the red star line and the dinosaur line, and all those other cancelled sets.
Another problem I have with the company is their irrational fear of competition. Competition drives up the quality and lowers the price. It benefits everyone. Unfortunately with Lego's stranglehold on the market and their (to be fair, very successful) smear campaign against all other brands, it's quite easy for the uneducated to assume anything not Lego is a cheap knockoff. I mean, mega is right there next to zulu or whatever the heck those true knockoffs are, why would you assume mega is a competitor when it gets less space than the ACTUAL KNOCKOFFS, almost as if it's intentional, to prevent the layman from learning megas true strength.
Besides. The brand you so love is itself a knockoff. Lego did not come first. They copied another brand and crushed it. Something I honestly hope mega eventually is able to do. Like Oreo and hydrox, transformers and gobots, I pray mega will someday soon break free of the shackles placed upon them by Lego.

If you think about it, if the blade is up and you pull the sword from it's sheath it'll be in your hand correctly, whereas if it's facing down you'd have to rotate it 180 degrees to be indexed correctly. That being said, the correct way is which ever way you prefer. As for the hands, the correct way of placing something in a minifigure's hand is which ever way works at the time.

One BIG difference between Lego and MegaBloks/MegaConstrux is the fact that Lego tries to staty away from military style sets, while MegaBloks/MegaConstrux does not, given they have the Halo and Call of Duty themed sets. Thus, focusing on only appealing to gamers. Then they took on the task of creating Star Trek themed sets, since Lego had Star Wars. No to mention they also had Game of Throne themed set, which clearly they made to widen there customer based to include more adults overall. But again, unlike Lego they do offer bricks on military green showing that they have no issue with encouraging military styled builds. When it comes to Lego, military set that have been independently made using Lego brick, had to rely on just using grey colored bricks for military themed builds.

My hot take is that baseplates and regular tiles should be the same thickness.
Say you’re trying to make an island with a beach. You get a green baseplate, but the sand colored baseplate is the same size, so that would mean making a giant island with a bunch of baseplates or just laying a bunch of green tiles on the sand baseplate. So you get some 16x16 sand tiles, and now they’re awkward and won’t fit right.

I agree with the Mega figures one. LOVE the Mega Construx micro actionfigures, especially from Halo. The iconic Lego minifig has it's place, in City, Pirates, Space, Knights etc. But no matter how much Lego tries to make Mandalorians, Clones and the likes to look nice, Mega would do them better. Furthermore another take:
Mega Construx has fantastic colours due to their variety of metallic and marbled shades AND Mega really doesn't deserve the status "knockoff", since they have many unique parts Lego doesn't produce or has only produced later. You like the 1×5 plate and 1×3 jumper plate? Yeah, two examples of Mega doing it first, then Lego following.

My hot take: The original Lego astronaut helmet piece isn't very good and the modern motorbike helmet (with visor) should have been a permanent replacement for astronauts. The classic helmet does work nicely as part of a hoodie on a City figure though.
Monkie Kid is an original theme. Therefore, it's automatically better than Lego Star Wars. Lego Star Wars feels like it's been stale for years while Monkie Kid is still putting out interesting new sets (in the very few places you can actually find them...) Lego relies way too much on licenced themes these days.
My issue with Minifigure armies is there's not really a point to them past a certain size. You're just lining up figures for the sake of it. In a stop motion animation or photoshoot, you could just use different camera angles and zoom levels to give the impression of a larger army without needing to dedicate so much space and money to Minifigures.
I was never into Ninjago either. As the line went on, it very clearly became a generic action theme with a few ninjas thrown in the box to justify Lego not taking any risks by introducing a new theme. Also, from my experience, the majority of Ninjago fans are just younger Lego Star Wars fans: They don't care about the actual sets and just want to collect the Minifigures.
Mega Bloks is even worse than Lego in that I don't think I've seen an original Mega Bloks set since the 2000s. Also, their part quality still sucks. Mega Bloks' highly articulated figures are pretty nice but their larger size means any vehicles/buildings have to be scaled up as well.
Totally agree on Lego animals needing to be brick-built past a certain size. I'd actually draw the line at the dog. There should be a new sub-system of parts for building Lego animals, so the horse can have pinned hips and knee hinges. Large, highly-specialised animal pieces look out of place, while Bionicle was much more versatile for the most part.

As someone who bought a lot of Lego Star Wars. I will say I do agree with the complains that Lego isn’t thinking outside the box for Star Wars. There is several scenes, ships, characters, and vehicles from Star Wars. That should have been made into Lego sets. Instead of making another X-Wing, another Tie-Fighter or another Falcon. With such a vast universe as Star Wars Lego is definitely playing it safe and not trying something new.
As for Mega Constructs I bought several of the more modern and recent Halo Mega Constructs stuff. And I can tell you their parts are better than when they first started out. However there are times where certain pieces don’t connect, hard time putting in or removing and some just fall off easy. So I say they have improved but don’t be surprised to get a part doesn’t work like the rest.

My hot take is more of a complaint, but CCBS and Constraction themes should have been a permanent addition to LEGOs site, I grew up on the tail end of Bionicle and the entirety of all CCBS themes, and that was the most fun I had with Legos, the easy ability to take them apart, make my own mocks, and storage was just so much nicer with those themes. Also, they need to do more custom events like hero recon team, making my own custom character was such a great idea.
