Great video, this guy knows his stuff. I started the task, but the two 18mm sockets that I had for my wrench, one was not deep enough and the bolt wouldn't allow a solid fit, and the other 18mm socket was deep deep and I couldn't get it on the nut on top of the shock because of the frame. So I went to Home Depot and bought an 18 mm wrench for $5.
Then I had trouble loosening the nuts because I do not have any power tools. I sprayed Blaster (penetrating catalyst for rust and frozen parts), then hit it with a hammer, then it finally came loose.
All told, I finished in an hour and a half (I'm slow). The instructions were spot on. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
One thing I learned that really, really saved me was knee pads.
Holy cow, I changed my strut and shock assembly the day before and my poor knees were hurting so bad from being on the concrete floor.
I highly recommend knee pads. Oh, I also swear by the thin black gloves sold at Walmart for $2. The save your hands and fingers.
And I use brake cleaner on the areas to clean them up as I go. I also recommend this for proper fitting. A must if you don't want to ruin your threads.

Had to muscle it on by pushing up on the shock with my hand. Took awhile but got it on. That was the left one. When I did the right one there seemed to be a little more room around the shock. I installed the bottom first so I could grab the top of the shock and push up on it with more leverage into the top well. That one only took 10 minutes. Did improve the ride.

Those packaging bands on those Bilstein shocks are a big help. I purchased some icon shocks and they did not come with those bands.

Have a 12 and have learned so much from your videos thank you!
Do you have a video doing the 5100s on the front? I see your video of another type of front shocks for the truck but not sure if install differs?
    Thank you

      Did you do fronts?
I see you’d have to use your stock spring. Any increase in height?

2015 f 150 xl 5.0: old shocks came off no prob, new, shocks installed no prob, which is nice bc I don't own an impact wrench cordless or otherwise...ty for the guidance!

Great Video! I love these Bilstein 5100 shocks. Ride is so much smoother on my 14 F150.
I think I installed them upside down because the instructions that came with them are not clear but they still work great. Again, thanks for another great video!

@@cheizaguirre5494 I did not. Priorities changed, but I have heard of many f150 owners on Facebook that have used the 5100's for their f150.

Thank you for this video. I was going to jack up the truck, take the wheels. Instead I followed your advice and it was literally 20 minutes, if that.

Great video. No jacking up of truck, no removing tire. One Question, arent you supposed to compress the shocks 3 times to activate the gases? I saw that on another video and was wondering about it.

Very cool,I actually started the timer as soon as I knelt down. Had the 18mm and 15mm ,had the pry bar ,loctite and knife . Should have taken them out of box before hand but I dont care ,,,it was fun and EASY First one 7;27.04 second one 7;10.32 Total 14:37.37 to do both =)
