Its just great to drink a glass in the evening and watching Scott talking passionately about exceptional, but unloved spirits. Very wholesome. Thank you :)
As one of the surely many subscribers to have found this channel off of that original Wray & Nephew review, an absolute - somewhat nostalgic - pleasure to see it (et. al) revisited!
Having now gotten to the end of the video, I think it's worth offering that the perspective which you, all those years ago, provided on unaged, overproof Jamaican rums (in a Blanton's world) was formative to my experience as a spirits drinker. As a novice drinker, I felt a little punk rock with my Wray & Nephew, and I owe that to you - keep up the good work!
Great review. I’ve had a few bottles of Wray & Nephew and think it’s wonderful with a splash of Evian. I have a bottle of Rum Bar on its way arriving tomorrow and looking forward to checking it out. I look forward to checking out more of these Jamaican beauties. I agree they offer amazing quality and value.
@@differentspirits4157 yes!! I had him grab Charley’s! As well as Monymusk white overproof (but unfortunately it broke in transit) and Worthy Park Single Estate!
Get well soon Scott, I always have a full Wray & Nephew 63% backup handy for medicinal & personal use. And a Goslings 151 as it was my first luv, call me cheap : ) I do believe the Rum-Bar is available & I will start saving now. £31 shouldn't take to long.
Hi thanks for the review. I'm making a purchase decision between Rum Nation White Pot Still and Rum-Bar. Can you tell me the difference between the two since they're both from WPE.
I like both a lot. IIRC the Rum Nation comes across as higher ester, but the Rum Bar is a bit more subtle and offered at higher strength. Both well worth having - the RB might be a bit more versatile in cocktails, the RN might show a bit better in a tasting glass.
I’m not a big fan of WP rums in general but I do love RumBar OP, bought another one 2 days ago at Binny’s. I feel like it has a lot of fruitiness especially mango.
Have you come across The Funk? I’d seen it kicking around at Astor Wines in Manhattan for a while and had misgivings about the name and vague label, but the other day I decided a $25 50% abv pot still Jamaican rum couldn’t turn out too bad. Turns out it’s a higher ester unaged Worthy Park and it’s great! I was looking for WP Overproof but they were out, The Funk was a welcome alternative. It’s not insanely funky, but to my memory it’s more than Rum Fire. Something to keep an eye out for if it’s still around, I can’t find much about the bottler so it might have been a one off from a few years ago
Yup, is good, one of many variations of unaged Worthy Park looking out for. I've tried it but I already love the Rum Bar so much that I haven't actually bought a bottle... 😂
Great video and a good reminder to look for value. Unfortunately Rum Fire is now £43-£45 in the UK, I think it's gone up in price fairly recently. Quality of experience at a price point, across all spirits, is something no one seems to be really doing but is really interesting.
_I'm_ trying to do it!! 😂 As I said below, I actually still think it's worth that 45 quid asking price, as irritating as the hike is. The Hampden premium is becoming a real thing.
You're doing great at highlighting amazing QPRs on this channel!! It would be fascinating to see which, say, 12 bottles you'd pick across all categories for your "Maxing Out QPR" bar. There might be $30 bottles, there might be $100 bottles. But it would be your pantheon of quality for price.
Seven Caves has a 63%ABV funky unaged rum that is only $35. I want to get one but I don't want to pay the shipping and tax and it ends up way over $50. No way will it be in the league of Rum Fire but I want to try it. I may go to the distillery some time this year. I liked the aged stuff they make but for the price I would rather buy from Barbados or St.Lucia. Way better than Privateer but they don't have any aged cask strength stuff.
I appreciate Wray, but I LOATHE that stupid plastic do-hikey they put in the top of the bottle that makes pouring a mis-adventure. Do they think this thing somehow keeps people from drinking too much because the rum goes everywhere but where you want it to? I’m with you on Fire, Bar & Wray. Have never seen Charly’s. But…. Not saying it’s equivalent, La Favorite (in a liter) coeur de cane 50% is damn good. And relative to a lot of products, an equally stupid value.
La Favorite review coming one of these days! And no, I don't really understand the plastic thing, but I did notice that the Jamaican bartenders had no trouble with it. I dunno, maybe it's a skill thing?
@@differentspirits4157 The first time I got a bottle of W&N, I cracked it open and tried to measure out 2oz for a Daiquiri. Tipped it, and it begins to dribble, tipped a bit more, and…….rum spurts out and goes everywhere. Great way to send you back to buy another bottle. BTW, sent them a “contact us” email. Never heard back.
Thanks! Yeah... when I decided to make this a channel in earnest I was pretty sure that, between A) videos that were actually useful and informative, B) videos that were frequent, and C) videos that looked good and were well-produced, I only had time to do two. And, well, my choice is clear... 😂
@@differentspirits4157 You dont necessarily need well produced. Just a clear enough picture to read the labels would be good enough. You can get that from a $100 gopro knockoff.

Aww, that's way too sweet! Thank you, kind sir.
I couldn’t agree more
Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Great lineup and comparison.
Cheers 🥃
Thanks and back at you! 🥃

The Charley's sounds interesting. I will yet make it to Jamaica. Very much enjoyed the revisit!
Do it! Wonderful spot once you're outside of the standard tourist lures...

@@differentspirits4157 Indeed, the Hampden Rum Fire and your other Charlie’s selection are well noted.
This is why I subscribe to your channel. More primal Jamaican rums!
More on the way!! 😁
The timing of this video is amazing… my partner’s dad grabbed me a few different bottles from Jamaica Duty Free yesterday!

Thanks! And no shame on the Goslings 😁 (but if you're ever in the states, grab a Hamilton 151)
RumBar really is a delight. Very delicate. And on the right day, it will best Rum Fire.
For cocktailing it'll actually beat Rum Fire _most_ days! 😂
Amazing video, amazing reviews!

I'm glad you'd pick the rum bar because its £31 compared to the £45 for rum fire :) (W&N being around 27)
Yeah I'm bracing for a price hike when it comes back to Chicago. The annoying thing? Still totally worth 45 quid... 😂

I don't know why everyones isn't drinking unaged Jamaican rum. I know I am.
Because no oak = scary and probably basically rocket fuel.
@@differentspirits4157 Oh, yes. That's it. Yep. Yall keep staying away from the unaged Jamaicans, they're from the Devil.

Seven Caves has been on my list for a bit. It's actually harder for me to get American rums than Caribbean ones these days... 🤔
@@differentspirits4157 I don't think Seven Caves is sold outside of SoCal. Good but not worth the money like most U.S. rums are

Export version to the uk of w&n rum taste nothing like the ones you buy on the island.
I've never had the UK version, so I can't confirm... but what we get in the US is legit!
Charlys jb is w&n older meaner brother.
"Meaner Trelawny brother to Wray" actually feels pretty spot on! 😂
